Chapter 1

My husband took his childhood sweetheart to a pet hospital.

But he called and asked my six-year-old son to deliver the asthma inhaler.

Just as my son left the entrance of the apartment complex, he was crushed by a dump truck.

When I ran over, his tiny broken hand was still tightly holding the asthma inhaler.

I wanted to pick up his body, only to realize that he had been crushed into pieces.

And the driver had long since disappeared without a trace.

I desperately called my husband, but he questioned me aggressively.

"Bridget, what's wrong with you? I just asked our son to deliver an asthma inhaler, but he still hasn't arrived. Is it because you didn't let him do it?"

Before I could speak, he hung up the phone.

My heart was broken, and my hand holding the phone was trembling.

"Dorian, just wait, I will make you and Ruby pay with your lives!"

I knelt on the ground, heartbroken, and picked up the fragments of my son's body.

When I brought the box containing my son's pieces to the crematorium...

All the staff were moved, and they all accused the driver.

But they didn't know that the people I wanted to tear apart were DoriRubyd Ruby!

If it wasn't for Dorian letting my son deliver the asthma inhaler, how could my son have died so tragically?

It had been three days. I sat by the window and looked at the small box of my son's ashes, my heart full of resentment.

Late at night, Dorian came home with a strong smell of alcohol.

The first sound he made when he entered the door was a roar.

"It's pitch black and you don't even turn on the lights! What are you pretending to be sad for? Do you know that if Ruby's asthma can't be relieved in time, she will die?"

"The pet hospital is only two intersections away from home. What's wrong with letting our son deliver the inhaler? Are you hoping for Ruby to die?"

In the darkness, I held my son's ashes tightly in my hands, almost biting my teeth off.

Ruby didn't die, but my son did!

A strong sense of suffocation surged up in my chest, and I quickly took out the inhaler and took two puffs.

Dorian glanced at me with disgust. I knew he despised me for having asthma.

Dorian didn't even take a shower. He just collapsed on the bed and fell asleep.

Yes, I had severe asthma, a disease that couldn't be cured. I could only live on medication.

Ruby returned three years ago, but I didn't know that she also had asthma.

She said she got it because she couldn't adapt to the climate abroad, so she came back to recuperate.

But I observed Ruby and immediately saw that her asthma was fake. It was just a deception.

Only scum like Dorian would believe every word of Ruby's.

Looking at Dorian sleeping like a log, I thought of my son's tragic death.

An impulse surged in my heart. I wanted to rush over and strangle him to death.

But at the last moment, I held back. It was not worth sacrificing my life for such scum.

I walked out of the room with my son's ashes and slept on the sofa.

The next morning, Dorian frowned and looked at me, who was lying on the sofa, with wide eyes.

"What's wrong with you? Hurry up and cook for me!"

After saying that, he went to the bathroom and came out a few minutes later as if he remembered something.

"Where did our son go? Why hasn't he gotten up yet? It was too late last night, so I didn't care about him. Hurry up and wake him up!"

"I have to ask him if you refused to let him deliver medicine to Ruby. You've shown him such a bad example when he's still so young!"

I stared at him expressionlessly for a long time and then uttered a sentence.

"Let's divorce. I'll let you be with Ruby. Our son and I won't be a stumbling block for you anymore."

Dorian's expression froze for a moment, and he was stunned. After a while, he suddenly became furious.

"Bridget! You're crazy. Just because I want to teach our son to behave, you want to divorce me?!"

Dorian's baseless accusations and roars instantly ignited my long-standing anger.

“Dorian, you're sick! What right do you have to teach our son? He has been in kindergarten for several years, but when have you ever attended a parent-teacher meeting? When have you ever helped him with his homework? How many times have you spent with him at the amusement park on weekends? You're always with Ruby, aren't you?"

"And you knew I was at home, so why didn't you let me give the asthma inhaler to Ruby? Instead, you deliberately let our son answer the phone while I was taking a shower and told him to deliver the asthma inhaler. Do you know that going to the pet hospital requires passing through two busy intersections? Our son is only six years old!"

"You haven't come home for three consecutive days, and you didn't even ask about our son. How dare you question me about not raising him properly? Do you know that three days ago..."

Dorian was scared by my fierce appearance, and his chest was heaving violently from my reprimand.

He suddenly stared at me and interrupted me.

"Enough! It's not your turn to lecture me! I didn't let you deliver the medicine because I knew you wouldn't do it at all! What's wrong with letting my son do it? It's just two intersections, so what's there to be afraid of? He's already six years old. He should learn to be a man!"

"Is he still sleeping? Go and get him out now! I must make him realize his mistake and that you are a lunatic!"

I suddenly laughed, and cold tears slid down my face.

At this point, this scumbag still stubbornly believed that everything was my son's and my fault.

Because I was petty and unwilling to deliver the medicine to Ruby, he asked my son to do it.

Because my son was not independent, so he couldn't deliver the inhaler even though he was already six!

I really wanted to slap myself hard. How could I have loved such a heartless and treacherous man for so many years?

Seeing me fall silent in tears, Dorian suddenly felt that his anger was somewhat meaningless.

He impatiently glanced at me.

"Alright, stop pretending to be pitiful. I don't have time to waste with you. Don't even think about divorce unless you give me a good reason! Think about it carefully!"

After speaking, Dorian snorted coldly, slammed the door, and left.

The buzzing sound of the door slamming echoed in my ears, leaving me momentarily stunned.

We'd been married for ten years. When did we become like this?

Chapter 2

In fact, I had known Dorian since we were young. We knew each other for at least thirty years.

At that time, the Payne family was already a wealthy family in Riverdol.

And my family was not bad, either. Although not as good as the Payne family, we had a big family business.

Dorian's father and my father were friends in the business world.

Our families often gathered together, and I played with Dorian since I was a child.

I could also be considered as Dorian's childhood sweetheart.

But there was also Ruby's father who was friends with the Payne family.

The Martinez family was a supplier of the Payne family, and they relied on the Payne family for their livelihood.

When we grew up, the Martinez family wanted to arrange a marriage between Ruby and Dorian.

Moreover, Ruby was quite skilled in seducing men.

She was determined to marry Dorian.

Naturally, Dorian had a good impression of Ruby, who was trying to please him.

But at that time, I had loved Dorian for many years.

Due to Ruby's interference, I never dared to express my feelings.

Dorian and Ruby even reached the point of discussing marriage.

Just when Ruby was overjoyed, thinking that the marriage with Dorian was a done deal...

Dorian's mother rejected Ruby, and I knew the real reason behind it.

When Dorian's father was young, he was handsome and he attracted many women.

Mrs. Payne has had enough of the unscrupulous mistresses.

She had never liked Ruby, a woman who was cunning and had a reputation for being promiscuous.

She had someone investigate Ruby's style a long time ago and knew that she only claimed to only love Dorian.

In fact, she had been with many men, and she especially liked to go to nightclubs and bars to have fun.

Mrs. Payne came from a prestigious family with strict family rules. How could she accept such a daughter-in-law?

After the Payne family rejected the Martinez family, I felt a little relieved and thought that I could finally confess my feelings to Dorian.

What surprised me was that when I was about to confess my feelings, I felt a strong disgust in Dorian's eyes.

"Did you badmouth Ruby in front of my mom?"

I was shocked by this and didn't understand what Dorian meant. How could he associate this matter with me?

I shook my head and denied it.

"No. I have never said anything about Ruby in front of Mrs. Payne. You have to believe me. I really like you."

However, Dorian pushed me away with a cold face that was full of mockery.

"I never expected that you are so scheming. My mom just rejected Ruby, and your dad proposed our marriage with my mom. How dare you say it has nothing to do with you? I'm not a fool!"

"I warn you, I hate women who backstab me. Don't even think about marrying me unless I'm dead!"

After that, Dorian was full of disgust toward me and refused to see me again.

Before that, we used to have meals and chat together as friends.

When I got home, I found out that my dad had proposed the marriage to the Payne family.

But he didn't tell me in advance, so I didn't know.

My dad said the reason he didn't tell me was because he already knew that I liked Dorian.

I would definitely agree. What he said was right, but he didn't know that Dorian had always liked Ruby.

Just when I thought we had no fate to be together in this lifetime, things changed.

The Payne family was on the brink of bankruptcy overnight due to a mistake in a critical business decision.

Meanwhile, my family business had been booming.

To get through the business crisis, Dorian's parents took the initiative to propose the marriage.

My parents knew that I had always liked Dorian, so they immediately agreed.

We invested 100 million dollars in the Payne family at the engagement to help them get through the business crisis.

After the crisis was solved, Dorian was forced to marry me as a matter of course.

And Ruby, who had always wanted to marry into the Payne family, couldn't handle the shock and went abroad.

Speaking of which, this marriage could be considered as a result of my insistence against all odds.

Perhaps, this was why he had been maintaining a superficial marriage with me for so many years.

But in his heart, he had always been thinking about Ruby.

In Dorian's heart, it was me who broke them up and made them lose their happiness.

But because of the strong connection in our family businesses, he couldn't divorce me.

Every time when he got drunk and wanted to vent emotions, he would curse at me.

He cursed me for relying on my family's wealth to coerce him, otherwise, he would never look at me.

He also cursed me for being cheap, saying that I forced him to marry me while knowing that he didn't like me.

Was this different from forced sex? In front of him, I was always guilty.

To make him look at me more, even though I was a rich girl, I tried my best to be humble in front of him.

In front of him, I was always humble and treated him as a high and mighty king.

But in the end, when Ruby just came back from abroad, he gave up everything to be with her.

He completely ignored the fact that he was a married man with a son.

After so many years, all my efforts had become a joke in the end.

And now, he and Ruby killed my only son!

Chapter 3

Afraid that my parents would worry, I didn't dare to say that my son had died, let alone mention the divorce with Dorian.

I didn't even think about moving back to my parents' mansion, so I moved into the villa my father bought for me before my marriage.

I had never lived in that villa after it was renovated. I just visited there once after getting married.

But a maid had been there to take care of the villa, so I could stay there at any time.

I moved into the villa with my son's ashes, and the next morning, I planned to bury the ashes.

I didn't expect that as soon as I opened the door, Dorian rushed in with Ruby and several bodyguards fiercely.

He slapped me hard in the face and yelled at me through his gritted teeth.

"How dare you do this! You brought our son here to hide, thinking that I couldn't find you, right?"

"Where is he? Take him out to me right now! I want to ask him how he became a murderer like you at such a young age!"

I covered my swollen face, filled with anger and confusion.

"Our son is a murderer? You came to my house with your mistress just to disgust me and our son, right?"

Dorian glared at me.

"How dare you argue even at this point? You won't regret it unless you see the consequences, right? See what you asked our son to do!"

Saying that, Dorian snatched the phone from Ruby's hand and opened a surveillance footage.

I looked at it with confusion and found a little boy who had the same clothes, hairstyle, and body shape as my son.

He opened the inhaler on the table and added some powder to it.

I saw that it was ordinary.

But that boy was not my son, even though he was wearing a mask.

His face was not clear, but I recognized at a glance that those eyes weren't not my son's at all!

I was stunned on the spot. When I was about to argue with Dorian, Dorian gritted his teeth and spoke coldly.

"See? Watch again if you didn't see it clearly! He is only six years old, but you instigated him to replace Ruby's medicine. You have asthma and know that she can't live without the medicine!"

"Bridget, I really didn't expect you to be so vicious! You actually taught our son to kill people. At such a young age, he became a murderer under your instigation!"

Ruby just made a fake video to frame my son, but Dorian came over to question me.

He just didn't believe me and our son, but a heartless mistress.

I was so angry that my body was trembling, and my asthma also flared up. I didn't care about arguing with him and quickly took out the inhaler from my pocket.

However, as soon as I took out the inhaler, Dorian snatched it from me and threw it far away.

He looked at me, who was struggling to breathe, with gritted teeth, and sneered.

"Don't you want Ruby to die? I'll let you experience how it feels to have an asthma attack with no inhaler!"

Everything in front of me began to blur, and before I passed out, I heard Ruby's gloating voice.

"Dorian, don't do this, she could die!"

Dorian let out a cold laugh.

"She wanted to hurt you, so she deserves to die!"
