Chapter 1
I had a hemorrhage while pregnant, but my husband was with Cindy White who was having a depressive episode.
I called my husband for help, but he thought I was acting and snorted out a laugh.
"Stop pretending. I said I went to accompany Cindy in the middle of the night because I was afraid something would happen to her. Can't you stop being so petty?"
"She's an orphan and she has depression. Why don't you have any sympathy at all?"
As soon as he finished speaking, my phone ran out of battery and shut down.
I could only keep calling for help, but it was late at night and no one answered at all.
But I was still bleeding continuously...
——
As a pregnant woman, I received intimate photos of my husband and Cindy in bed, which made me furious and I fell down the stairs in anger.
I had multiple bruises all over my body, several broken bones, and I was bleeding profusely, with blood staining the hem of my skirt.
My husband was with Cindy in the neighboring community. In order to quickly get to the hospital, I called him for help.
He was impatient and said, "Winnie Lincoln, are you done yet? I have told you many times that I am innocent with Cindy."
"Cindy is an orphan and has depression. She is already pitiful enough. Do you have to argue with a helpless and depressed patient?"
Cindy's depression always struck in the middle of the night. She called Chris Hill every time and cried to him.
Chris, regardless of the wind and rain, immediately rushed to accompany her every time and stayed until the early hours of the morning before returning.
Now was not the time to argue about this. I begged for help in panic, "Chris, come back quickly."
"I am pregnant and now I'm bleeding profusely from falling down the stairs."
Chris paused for a moment and then sneered, "Winnie, now you're even making up lies like being pregnant in order to trick me into coming back."
"You are both women. Why can't you learn from Cindy and be obedient? You always cause trouble like a shrew, very annoying."
If Cindy were obedient, how could she seduce someone else's husband?
I only found out that I was two months pregnant not long ago, and I had originally called to inform him.
But at that time, he was with Cindy and impatiently hung up my phone.
I was about to explain, but Cindy’s pitiful voice interrupted me.
"Chris, did Winnie have an accident? It's all my fault."
"You should go back and accompany her. I'm fine. I just sometimes have a proneness to depression."
Chris didn't show the slightest bit of annoyance or perfunctory behavior when he faced Cindy. Instead, he gently comforted her with a soft voice.
"She must be pretending. Even if she really fell, could she die from it?"
"But if I leave, what if something happens to you? I won't go anywhere tonight. I'll just stay by your side and accompany you."
Chris's sweet voice made me sick. How dared he say that he and Cindy were innocent?
But I knew that it was not the time to dwell on this. My eyes turned red and I said with a sobbing voice.
"Chris, I really didn't lie to you. I just found out that I was pregnant not long ago, and I didn't have time to tell you before the accident happened."
"Please come back quickly and send me to the hospital, okay?"
Chris remained indifferent, "Are you abnormal? Why do you talk nonsense every day? If you're sick, go get treated. Don't bother me."
After saying that, he hung up the phone.
What was worse was that the phone had already run out of battery and shut down.
I was desperate. I was still bleeding and every part of my body was in pain, making me unable to move at all.
I stroked my slightly gathered abdomen and suddenly regretted choosing to be with Chris.
Chris and I had been together for eight years, since college.
At that time, he had just broken up with Cindy, and he was depressed and listless.
As the class's psychological counselor, in order to help him get out of the shadow of the breakup, as long as there were group activities, I would invite him to join.
Gradually, we discovered that we had many common interests, and then we naturally got together.
There were pictures of us hanging all over the house, with all the places we had traveled together.
He said he wanted to take me all over the world, and also said he wanted to hold hands with me and grow old together.
Chris also liked children. When he bought this house, he planned a baby room.
He also bought a lot of baby toys and baby clothes.
He said he wanted to have a beautiful girl like me and a boy like him. He wanted to make me and our children the happiest people in the world.
There was no doubt that he loved me and the children at that time.
It was just that this love had an expiration date. Now he took it back when the time came.
Chapter 2
"Knock, knock, knock" The sound of knocking on the door suddenly sounded.
"Anyone there? Takeout."
I widened my eyes slightly and remembered that Chris had ordered a late-night snack before he left. The deliveryman probably couldn't reach Chris's phone, so he knocked on the door.
I once again felt a glimmer of hope in my heart, desperately shouting, "Sir, help me! Please call 911 for me. I'm pregnant and bleeding heavily. Please save my child."
"Don't worry, hold on. I'll call 911 right away." The man's voice sounded nervous and anxious.
Even a stranger who had never met me before cared so much about my safety, but my husband, whom I had shared a bed with for so many years, treated my life as nothing.
I knew how ridiculous I had been for the previous eight years and how wrong I had been in choosing him.
While the deliveryman was making the call, Chris called again.
"Hello, Mr. Hill? I'm a deliveryman. There's a lady in the house shouting for help. It seems like she's pregnant and bleeding heavily."
"I'm calling an ambulance now. You'd better come over right away."
Chris acted like he knew everything about me and said coldly, "My wife is pretending. She's always suspicious and thinks I have another woman outside. She's deliberately trying to trick me into coming home."
"Just put the takeaway down and let me have a word with her."
Then, he used the deliveryman's phone to communicate with me.
"Winnie, do you have a problem? Do you have to make things so out of control before you stop?"
"Let me tell you. Don't think you can force me to go back with this method. Stop dreaming."
I was in tears and choked, "Chris, I'm not acting. I'm really pregnant. I'm bleeding heavily now and I am in danger. Call an ambulance quickly or you'll definitely regret it."
Chris sneered, "Okay, your acting skills have improved that you can even fake cry. But it's useless to me. Stay at home and don't think about calling me through others. I won't answer."
After saying that, he hung up the phone.
The deliveryman seemed to believe Chris's words, telling me not to think nonsense and to live a good life with my husband.
The deliveryman was the last hope for me and my unborn child. I clenched my fists and shouted with all my strength.
"I'm not acting. I'm really bleeding heavily because of the pregnancy. Sir, please save my child."
But what I got in return was the sound of footsteps gradually moving away.
The scarlet blood was still spreading on the ground, and the air was even filled with a bloody odor.
I burst into tears and my chest was filled with guilt towards my child.
Baby, sorry. I might not be able to bring you into this world.
Your father went to accompany someone else for fear of her committing suicide, but left you and me here.
He didn't let others come to save us.
If I could start over, I would rather never meet your father.
I was also deceived by Chris's words, thinking that he would really be a good husband and father.
I also once thought I would be the happiest woman in the world, until I caught him in secret contact with Cindy.
At first, Chris was still guilty. He said that Cindy went abroad because of his grandfather's pressure.
She wasn't doing well abroad, and was even depressed because she was overly pining for him.
"I also had mild depression before, and it was you who helped me get out of it. You should be able to understand my current feelings."
"But I promise you, I will never betray you. I just don't want her to get into trouble."
If they were simply in contact, I could still tolerate it.
But later, Cindy returned to the country and often made suicide attempts in the middle of the night, calling Chris and crying.
Because of his guilt towards Cindy, Chris didn't care at all about my feelings and rushed to her house in the middle of the night.
What was even more excessive was that Cindy began to call Chris away on all my important holidays.
On every anniversary, my birthday, Valentine's Day, Cindy would play poor, saying she was an orphan and had no one to spend these important days with.
Every time he heard her say this, Chris felt even more guilty and rushed to accompany her.
But he forgot that he was the only family member I had in this city as well.
And Chris always used the same excuses every time.
He said he was sorry to Cindy and could only try his best to make up for it, hoping that I could be more understanding.
But it was he who owed Cindy, not me.
Why should I take the blame?
Besides, if Cindy was ill, why didn't she see the doctor? Chris was not a doctor. What was the point of calling him in the middle of the night?
I finally couldn't bear it anymore and had a big fight with Chris.
But Chris thought I was unreasonable. "Winnie, how can your thoughts be so dirty? There's nothing between me and Cindy. I'm just trying to make up for my guilt. Can you stop being unreasonable?"
Every time Chris left in the middle of the night, he came back in the wee hours of the morning. There would be a woman's perfume and sometimes lipstick marks on his shirt.
How dared he have the face to say he was innocent?
And shouldn't I be angry that my own husband was staying alone with another woman?
It was clearly his fault, so how came I was being unreasonable?
Gradually, because of excessive blood loss, my mind was drowsy and my eyelids were heavy.
Just as I was about to faint, the door of the room was kicked open.
The deliveryman and medical staff rushed in. It turned out that the deliveryman walked a few steps away and felt that something was wrong.
He was afraid that if it was true, he would have indirectly killed me and my child.
Following the principle of better safe than sorry, he called 911 and rushed to save me.
Seeing how serious I was, the medical staff immediately lifted me onto a stretcher and rushed me to the hospital at the fastest speed.
I entered the emergency room and then everything went black.
When I woke up again, I was already lying in a hospital bed.
My once slightly raised belly had completely flattened out, and I couldn't stop crying.
My best friend, Belle Smith, hugged me and patted my back with concern, "Winnie, the doctor said you just had surgery and your body is still weak. You can't get too emotional. I know you're sad, but you have to take care of your body so that you have the strength to deal with that couple."
I couldn't stop my tears at all. That was my child, a part of me.
Seeing me so sad, Belle was furious with Chris and immediately dialed his number.
Chris was probably in love with Cindy right now, and didn't have time to answer Belle's call at all.
Belle kept calling when Chris didn't answer.
Finally, on the ninety-ninth call, Chris answered.
He seemed to have just woken up, yawned, and said unhappily, "Are you crazy? Why are you calling so many times early in the morning?"
"Do you know what happened to Winnie? How can you still sleep?" Belle said in disbelief.
Chris disdainfully said, "She's not dead. Why are you in such a hurry?"
