Chapter 1
Ever since I had a miscarriage a year ago, Kevin Milton only had sex with me during my ovulation period every month, and he would kneel on the ground and repent every time afterward.
He did it seriously. First, he would say, "I shouldn't have done that." And then, he would slap himself twice in the face.
Finally, he added inexplicably, "Please understand me."
I said, "Honey, what are you doing, are you crazy?"
He explained with a somewhat flustered look, "I was not gentle enough, I was too rude, I shouldn't have treated you like this."
I knew he was lying.
That night, as usual, Kevin had sex with me and then knelt on the ground to perform that strange confession ceremony.
This time, I was too lazy to ask any more questions and turned off the lights to rest.
Something flickered in the darkness.
When I turned on the light, I saw that Kevin had placed his phone in a secret place and was taking a selfie.
"Kevin, are you out of your mind?" I was surprised.
His confession was strange enough, but now he was even taking a selfie.
"Don't talk nonsense." Kevin quickly stood up and took the phone in his hand, saying, "It's just that my phone accidentally fell to the ground."
That made sense, maybe he had touched the selfie button accidentally.
I didn't think much about it and fell asleep.
The next day.
I saw something on Facebook.
I turned on my phone and saw that Kathy had posted something.
[My boss apologizes to me every time he has sex with that old woman. I'm so touched.]
[My boss said he would give me a surprise tonight. I am looking forward to it.]
My heart suddenly skipped a beat.
Kathy was Kevin's assistant, young and beautiful. There must be some story between them.
I looked at that post again, and my heart began to beat faster.
Could it be that Kevin kneeling on the ground and confessing just to show her?
But it didn't make sense.
However, the boss Kathy was talking about was my husband Kevin.
Just when my mind was in a mess, Kathy suddenly withdrew her two posts.
It was like she suddenly realized that she had said something wrong and quickly took it back.
I wanted to give it a try.
At about six o'clock in the afternoon, I called Kevin, "Kevin, today is our wedding anniversary. I made your favorite dish. Please come back early after getting off work."
After five years of marriage, Kevin attached great importance to the wedding anniversary. When our anniversary came, he would always cancel all social engagements and have a romantic dinner with me at home.
After dinner, he would take me to the rooftop to count the stars in the sky.
Over time, it became a habit.
"What a coincidence! I have to have dinner with an important client tonight, so I might be home a little late."
"But today is our wedding anniversary."
"Why are you so thoughtless? Is the anniversary more important than the business? This client came from overseas with a big business and can bring my company orders worth 50 million dollars. Besides, I have already made an appointment with him. How can I break it?"
After hanging up the phone, I tried convincing myself that Kevin had business and I should understand him.
At almost midnight, the sound of humming came from the stairwell.
I opened the door and saw Kevin.
He was drunk and was singing his favorite song when we were in love.
"I taste your beauty, leaving my lip prints..."
He was bleary-eyed and didn't notice me coming out of the room. After he finished humming, he muttered to himself intoxicatedly, "I finally made it..."
Suddenly seeing me, he looked panicked for a second, but he immediately became calm and said, "Stella, it's already midnight, why aren't you sleeping yet?"
Chapter 2
This was abnormal.
Under normal circumstances, he would say something apologetic or caring, such as, "I'm so sorry, honey, for making you wait for me so late," or "I'll try to come back earlier next time."
This time, his tone was reproachful, as if he was blaming me for secretly monitoring him.
I cared about him, but he blamed me.
After helping him into the house, I took out slippers for him to change into, and then habitually brought him a glass of honey water.
After watching him finish drinking, I went to the bathroom, prepared a basin of foot-washing water, brought it over, took off his socks, and gently placed his feet in the basin.
"Kevin, is it hot? Do you want some cold water?"
All of this had become a fixed routine.
For me, I'd gotten used to it, and he enjoyed it with peace of mind.
In the past, if the water temperature was not suitable, he would frown, and I would know whether to add hot or cold water based on his expression.
This time, he seemed to be very drunk. After I put his feet in the basin, he closed his eyes in a daze.
He tilted his head back and leaned against the back of the sofa.
He hummed softly, "Dear, don't be willful. As long as I have you, I have the whole world..."
He often sang this song when he was in love with me, but never sang it again after we got married.
Later, when he heard me humming this, he sneered and called me crazy.
What happened to him tonight?
The woman's unique intuition made me suspicious. I moved closer to him and smelled him. I could smell a faint scent of perfume on his clothes.
Looking more closely, I saw a lipstick mark on his left cheek.
I couldn't help but shake him awake and ask, "Kevin, who had you been with tonight?"
Kevin was startled when he saw me staring at his cheeks. He sobered up a lot, avoided my gaze, and said nonchalantly, "Nothing, I was kissed by a woman."
Seeing my expression was not right, he explained, "My client's assistant is a woman, she is very aggressive, after drinking a few glasses for her boss, she took the initiative to throw herself into my arms. Actually, this is nothing, this always happens in the business world."
I stared into his eyes. "Who kissed you? Was it his assistant or your assistant?"
Kevin got annoyed suddenly and stood up from the sofa. "What do you mean by saying that? Are you doubting me? We have been married for so many years, don't you know what kind of person I am?"
He was confident.
A trace of sadness suddenly passed through my heart.
In the past, I always thought I knew Kevin very well, but now it seemed that I was too confident.
"Okay, I won't talk to you anymore. I have a meeting tomorrow morning and I need to go to bed."
After saying that, he walked into the bedroom, fell on the bed, and fell asleep.
I tossed and turned and couldn't sleep.
At around one in the middle of the night, I heard Kevin's cell phone ding.
Seeing that he was sleeping soundly, I quietly reached out for his phone and checked.
It was Kathy who sent him message on WhatsApp.
[I have decided, let me complete what your wife cannot do.]
[A big boss worth 100 million dollars said he loved me ten times in a row. To be honest, I was moved.]
I was just wondering when the other party sent messages again.
[After seeing my messages, don't get too excited.]
[Okay, I need to go to bed. Let's start tomorrow.]
I checked the previous messages, and my head suddenly buzzed.
It was a transfer record.
Kevin transferred fifty thousand dollars to Kathy ten consecutive times.
The transfer time was half past one in the morning.
Now I understood. It turned out to be the surprise Kevin gave to Kathy.
