Chapter 1
After a flash marriage, I discovered that my husband has face blindness. Today he mistook me for a maid, and tomorrow, for a gardener. By the third day, when he saw me at the company, his eyes were practically bulging! While he frantically chased after me, he was also pondering how to divorce his wife at home...
One
"Mom, isn't it a bit too rash to get married without even meeting first?"
"What's the big deal, Gloria? Don't be so old-fashioned."
I looked puzzled. Seriously, am I the old-fashioned one??
Seeing my confusion, my mom finally explained, "Alright, your dad decided this. You know how he is..."
I immediately made a timeout gesture. "Stop, I'll marry, okay?"
My dad is incredibly naggy. Once, I didn't want to go on a trip with them, and he nagged me for three days and nights. It felt like my head was filled with Buddhist chants.
"Gloria, where are you going?"
"To sleep."
"Sleep? At this time of day?"
"So, what should I be doing?"
"Getting your marriage certificate!"
"What?"
Then, my mom dragged me to the Civil Affairs Bureau. The most absurd part was that I hadn't even seen my husband after getting the certificate!
"Gloria, I'm sorry. My son had an urgent matter and had to leave first..."
"Left?"
"Yes... But don't worry! He already signed the papers! You'll still get the certificate."
"That's not really the point, is it?"
My mom shoved me forward, and under the expectant eyes of a group of elderly folks, I signed my name: Gloria Brown.
The moment I signed, I swear I heard a collective sigh of relief. I looked around, everything seemed normal, and then I noticed the form on the table had been taken away by a group of elders who started examining it.
They said a bunch of nonsensical things, implying that my handwriting matched well with David White's.
How did they come to that conclusion from just my handwriting?
"Mom, can I finally see my husband now?"
"No rush, you'll move in today and meet him then!"
"Move in? Where?"
"To your husband's house, of course!"
I sighed, covering my forehead. They continued to praise how compatible I was with David.
One of the grandpas even used a magnifying glass to inspect my handwriting. Given his age, he should just stay at home...
"Gloria, you can go home now."
"Don't we need to take a photo together?"
"No worries, we can Photoshop it. You don't need to worry about it."
Great, even the marriage certificate photo can be photoshopped.
I nodded and left, feeling like I was just going through the motions.
In the afternoon, I had coffee with a friend, and by evening, I went home, only to find I couldn't even enter the house...
Two large trucks were parked at the door, and movers were still working. Looking at the items inside, everything seemed very familiar...
They were all mine!!
Just as I was about to confront my parents, I saw them smilingly approaching me.
"Oh, Gloria, you sure have a lot of stuff. These are the last two trucks. Oh, the driver from the White family is here too and he is Mr. White's driver. Hurry up, it's time to go."
My mom waved a handkerchief, looking reluctantly sad, but her smile betrayed her true feelings.
"Well, I'll go tomorrow. Just for today..."
My dad suddenly appeared, giving me a meaningful pat on the shoulder. "Daughter, if you marry a chicken, follow the chicken; if you marry a dog..."
Before he could start his nagging, I jumped into the car. They were overly dramatic, crying as they saw me off.
I closed my eyes and leaned back...
When I got off the car, it felt like I had stepped into a sci-fi movie. This mansion was like a grand castle! Even the floor tiles were luxurious.
I had heard that the White family was wealthy, but this was beyond my imagination.
I was taken to David's room by the servant, and after being pushed by the housekeeper, I went in anyway...
My belongings were already neatly arranged in the room, but David hadn't returned yet. I quickly took a shower, and when I came out, I got lost.
The master bedroom's design was too complicated. I finally found my way back to the bed and decided to rest.
I didn't know when David came back, but when I woke up, he was lying beside me.
Do you know that feeling? Like waking up and realizing someone violated your space!
With my bad morning temper, I found him extremely annoying, even if he was somewhat handsome.
After getting up, he acted like he didn't see me, doing his morning routine and then selecting cufflinks. He glanced at me through the mirror.
In a relaxed tone, he said, "We are both following orders and have no choice. So, let's just play our roles. I won't restrict you, and you don't need to interfere with my business. There's a card and my number on the table. Contact me if you need anything."
Turning around, I saw a card and a note on the bedside table.
After he left, I was in a great mood. When my mom came over in the afternoon, I even made her some afternoon tea.
"Mom, the husband you found for me is amazing!"
He gives me money, looks handsome, and isn't nosy!
He is silent and easygoing, plus I can spend freely!
Isn't this early retirement?
Seeing my attitude change overnight, my mom couldn't stop laughing. "Hahaha! It seems like you two had a good time last night!"
"Good time?" I asked casually, not quite understanding.
"Ah, you know, that! I knew it, he's definitely capable, just by looking at him."
I coughed. "Mom, I think you misunderstood..."
"Oh, I understand! Is that my son-in-law? Go greet him."
I wiped my hands on my apron and peeked out the window. Sure enough, it was David's car.
Under my mom's urging gaze, I went out to greet him. As I stood there, wondering how to start...
He coldly asked, "A new maid? Your clothes are dirty. Butler, take her to change."
The butler was shocked and immediately explained, "Mr. White, she is..."
"Tell me later. Get the documents from the study, quickly."
The butler looked at me for help, and I waved my hand. He nodded and ran off.
I changed my clothes and came downstairs just in time to see David coming in. He glanced at my mom on the sofa, who stood up with a smile. "David, you're back. Gloria didn't come with you?"
He looked around, bewildered. "She might be playing. I'll have someone fetch her."
My mom muttered softly, "Didn't she go to meet you? How could she be playing?"
"No need, I'm here."
He glanced at me, his gaze fleeting, "Hmm, go accompany your mom. I have work to do. I'll be back late."
I was stunned.
Does he really not recognize me? Is he pretending? What's wrong with this guy?
Chapter 2
I sat down, watching his retreating figure, squinting. What game is he playing?
"I told you to pick him up. Why did you go upstairs to change clothes instead of meeting him? Oh, you wanted to look your best, right? But he's already gone! You were too slow!"
I looked at my mom, wanting to explain, but the words wouldn't come out.
Then, I thought of someone, and my eyes were fixed on the butler. When he saw me looking at him, his body tensed up, and he silently looked away...
After sending my mom off, I couldn't find the butler anywhere. I asked several maids, and they all seemed... Off, very off!
Their evasive eyes led me to find the hiding butler.
Under my intense questioning, it turned out that David indeed had a condition!
"Mr. White does have a bit of face blindness."
"Are you sure it's just a bit?"
The butler nodded slowly, "Sure."
"He couldn't recognize me, and that's just a bit, isn't it?"
I walked away, holding my head. Oh, heavens!
I suddenly turned around and looked at the butler, who immediately coughed and withdrew his gaze from me.
"Butler, will your Mr. White ever recognize me?"
"That won't happen. We have been him for twenty years, and he should be familiar with us!" He said this with a smug look on his face...
My eye twitched, and my temples throbbed.
No wonder they say rich kids always have some kind of issue... I looked at David's photo on the wall. Handsome?
It is at the cost of his brain!
I grabbed the butler who brought me fruit. "Butler, your Mr. White didn't put his photo here to avoid forgetting his own face, did he?"
"Uh... no, this was taken when he inherited the family business."
I ate the fruit, looking at David's photo with a 45-degree angle.
Then, I had a bold idea!
Should I go out and have fun, find a few young men? Or should I apply for a job at his company and seduce my face-blind husband?
The next afternoon, I prepared a resume and sent it to the White Group. They scheduled an interview for the next day.
In a good mood, I went to the garden to tend to the flowers, with a small watering can and spade.
It was very hot outside, so I wore a sun hat. After a while, it was too hot, so I sat in a pavilion nearby and drank some water.
Just then, I saw David walking over. I thought he was coming to find me after asking the butler. But no, he said, "Is your master Smith, the gardener, not here? Tell him to replace these roses next time, something more unique."
I pursed my lips. He frowned impatiently, "Didn't you hear?"
"Got it, Mr. White."
"Good."
Watching him turn to leave, I waved my spade in his direction, wishing I could hit him from a distance. Unexpectedly...
The next second, the spade flew out of my hand...
It drew an arc and landed near David's heel.
"Clang!"
For a moment, time seemed to freeze. He didn't move, and I didn't dare breathe.
Seeing him about to turn, I ran immediately...
David frowned at the spade, then smirked and called the butler. "Tell Smith that his apprentice is no longer needed."
"Yes, Mr. White..."
The butler didn't understand but agreed.
Recently, I've been acting like a perfect wife in front of David! But he always thought I was a servant!
One moment he's ordering me around, the next, he's lying in bed asking if I had fun today.
Oh my god!
Then David said he wouldn't come home recently because of work at the company.
I didn't respond, just gave him a sweet smile.
For a while, I didn't see David. Unable to stay idle, I went to a bar with my friend.
"Where's your Mr. White?"
"What?"
My friend shouted into my ear again, and I finally heard her.
"He said he's busy."
"Busy playing?"
I didn't understand. I looked in the direction my friend pointed. There was David, playing dice at the next table.
We continued our fun, and my friend, fearlessly, ordered five male models!
Well, whatever, David doesn't recognize me anyway.
Soon, my friend dragged me onto the DJ stage. She threw me a flirtatious glance, challenging me.
Why wouldn't I accept?
I took off my sweatshirt, revealing a tank top and a short skirt covered in sequins. With the lights, I was the most dazzling one on the dance floor.
The two of us danced provocatively, and the crowd cheered endlessly.
Just as the alcohol hit me, my best friend suddenly bumped into me.
Groggily, I followed her gaze and saw David staring intently at the stage. When he noticed me looking at him, he didn't avert his eyes but gave a smile that revealed nothing of his thoughts.
"You're in trouble."
My friend muttered before dragging me away.
Back at our booth, sure enough, David was still watching me.
His gaze followed my every move. Whether it was the alcohol affecting my perception or him, those typically aggressive eyes now had a hint of tenderness.
"Are you about to be disciplined right here?" my friend teased.
I took a sip of my drink without responding because I knew David wasn't looking at his wife but rather at a woman who had piqued his interest. After days of pretending to be a perfect wife, he had ignored me. But a few seductive moves on the dance floor, and suddenly, he was enamored, wasn't he?
Seeing me drink, he raised his glass towards me. I toasted him from a distance, raised my eyebrow, and downed my drink.
No one had told me David had a thing for this type.
"Oh no, he's coming... Quick, let's run..."
"Dammit, I've ordered so many male models for you. What do we do now?"
David approached uninvited, sitting beside me with his head propped on his hand. His eyes, even in his drunken state, seemed to be filled with deep emotion. We locked eyes, and for the first time, I saw a different expression on his face. His eyes were seductive, his lips held a foolish smile, and there was a warmth in his gaze that made my cheeks flush.
Lowering my eyes, I watched him play with a lock of my hair.
"Come home with me tonight," he said.
