Chapter 5

To my surprise...

Cedric glanced at me, bit his lip, and made up his mind. "Before I went to pick you up from work, I already discussed it with the family. We all agreed to sell your house and help my brother."

Damn it, Cedric had secretly been sending his worthless brother a few hundred dollars here and there as pocket money, and I had turned a blind eye to it.

I thought it was just brotherly affection.

Who would have guessed that he would be one of those people who kept enabling their siblings?

His salary wasn't enough to support his brother, so now he wanted to sell my house.

I completely misjudged Cedric. On the surface, he seemed honest, but he was actually a wolf in disguise that devoured without leaving a trace.

No wonder he had been so quiet earlier, letting his mother and sister pressure me.

Seeing my face getting gloomier, Cedric said humbly.

"I know when you married me, I didn't have a house or a car. It hasn't been easy for you. But Reese is my brother, and I can't just watch him be pushed to death by loan sharks.

"As long as we work together, we can buy another house after we make some money. And if you sell the house to help my brother, my family will be grateful to you. We'll treat you like one of our own from now on."

Today, they showed me the depths of their shamelessness.

So, after I married him and carried his child, he still never saw me as family.

Kaylee, full of concern for her son, came over and gently stroked his face.

"Why are you begging her? She's pregnant and her parents are dead. She has no backup. Her house is your house. If she won't sell the house, you can teach her a good lesson."

As she spoke, Kaylee shot me a vicious glare.

Lizeth added fuel to the fire. "When we agreed to let you marry her, it was because she was easy to control, with no parents and no one to back her up. You're a man. What are you afraid of? She's just a weak and pregnant woman!"

Well then...

This whole family had pushed me too far.

I stood with my hands on my hips and shouted, "Listen to yourselves. Are you even human? That house is my premarital property. It has nothing to do with the Flynn family!

"Reese's scam last time drained your family's savings, and now you want to sell my house because of his gambling? Let me tell you. Once a gambler, always a gambler. Your family is already ruined!"

I had torn it all apart. I wasn't staying in this family any longer, and I didn't want anything to do with my heartless husband.

My in-laws and Lizeth were seething with rage.

Cedric kept his head down, silent.

At that moment, Reese, who had been kneeling, suddenly jumped up and punched me to the ground.

"You bitch! Not to sell the house? How dare you! You married into this family, so your house is now ours."

I wasn't one to back down either. I swung my hand and scratched Reese's face.

My sharp nails left long, bloody streaks across his cheek.

My in-laws got furious about my actions.

They rushed over, kicking and punching me without any care for the baby I was carrying.

Lizeth stood by with her arms crossed, smirking like she was enjoying the show.

And my husband, the father of the child in my belly, just stood there, head down, saying nothing.

Finally, I cried out, "My belly hurts!"

Only then did Cedric snap out of it. He grabbed his parents and brother, pulling them off me.

"Stop it. What are you doing? Let's talk about it peacefully. Violet is pregnant with my child!"

Looking at my bruised and battered body, Cedric seemed to feel a flicker of guilt.

Reese shrugged it off. "Relax, I only hit her head but didn't touch her belly."

My in-laws chimed in, "We just pinched her arms and legs and didn't even go near her belly. The baby's fine."

Lizeth stepped up. "Cedric, don't blame Reese or our parents. It's your wife's fault for being so disrespectful to her in-laws. She deserved a beating! Don't spoil her, or you'll regret it later."

After that, she looked at me smugly.

Once they finished talking, whatever guilt Cedric had felt disappeared.

I lay on the floor lonely.

Then I looked up at them.

At that moment, I knew I couldn't stay in this family. They would stop at nothing to force me to sell the house.

I couldn't even guarantee my safety.

I had to get out of there immediately.

I grabbed Cedric's hand. "Honey, my belly hurts. Please take me to the hospital."

Once I was there, I would find a way to escape.

Just when Cedric was about to agree, Kaylee shouted.

"She's not going anywhere until she agrees to sell the house."

I quickly gave in. "Kaylee, I'll agree to sell the house, but I'm in too much pain right now. Please let Cedric take me to the hospital first. You can take pictures of the house and send them to an agent in the meantime and get it listed."

Everyone's faces relaxed when they saw me finally give in.

Even Lizeth, who had just been eager to see me beaten to death, came over to help me up. "Lizeth, if only you'd figured this out sooner."
