Chapter 1

In the fifth year of our marriage, the impoverished individual I sponsored became my husband's secretary.

In the sixth year of our marriage, my husband bought a villa for his secretary's dog.

This happened because the secretary posted an update on her Instagram saying: [My dog is my baby. Whoever gives it a home is its daddy!]

In less than three days, the secretary posted a photo on her Instagram.

It showed two hands, a man and a woman, holding a white Samoyed dog.

The caption read: [Our family of three.]

The man wore a wedding ring the same as mine.

I casually clicked "like", and the post was quickly deleted.

A few minutes later, my husband, who had been away from home for half a month, called me angrily and scolded, "Isn't it just taking back your shares in the company?! I've always said that everyone has their own expertise, and Ava is better at managing the company than you! Are you bored now and deliberately sent her offensive private messages?"

There were also faint, soft cries of someone sobbing in the background.

I was confused, and before I could explain myself, the call was abruptly ended.

Half an hour later, Ava Stone posted another update on Instagram to show off, and the picture attached was the contract of the shares that had just been taken away from me.

The caption read: [If a man loves you, he will give you everything and place it in your hands! If not, then it's the opposite.]

In the post, she went to great lengths to specifically mention me by tagging my username.

I sneered and took a screenshot to keep the evidence.

It turned out that she was still young and impatient.

She still didn't understand that, in the face of personal interests, love was not worth mentioning.

——

When Eric Marshall suddenly called me and scolded me just now, I was contacting the best lawyer to prepare for filing for divorce.

Just two weeks ago, Eric used my illness as an excuse to take away 20% of my controlling shares in the company.

He claimed that it was for me to rest and not worry about the company.

But then, he bought a luxurious villa for his secretary, Ava's dog.

The bank cards were still in my possession, and I received text messages with the transaction details on my phone. I was stunned for several seconds.

He didn't even bat an eye at the extravagant expenditure of tens of millions of dollars.

And just half a month ago, when I asked him for 5 million dollars to purchase a special medicine that could improve my chances of recovery, he didn't even hesitate to refuse.

He looked troubled and said, "Seraphina, you know the company has been having a hard time recently. If it weren't for the massive layoffs, we might face a financial crisis.

In this situation, where can I get 5 million dollars to buy you special medicine? Please bear with it a little longer."

After saying this, he picked up his coat and left.

He didn't come back for half a month.

From that day onwards, Ava's Instagram was updated eight times a day, consistently showcasing her happiness.

I scrolled through my phone with an expressionless face.

Through her posts, I saw Eric appearing on the sidelines of the camera, wearing a relaxed and indulgent smile.

I could also see that he had settled into that villa he bought for her.

They went to IKEA together and bought a lot of furniture, bedding, and pillows.

My heart gradually grew colder.

A month ago, I was diagnosed with a rare disease that caused me to have a clotting disorder. If I had any wounds, the bleeding wouldn't stop.

The doctors said it was a complication of this rare disease.

If there were too many instances of bleeding, I would experience memory loss and forget many things.

I didn't want to forget, so in order to minimize accidents, I deliberately stayed at home and avoided going out.

I even lied to Eric, telling him that my illness would likely leave me paralyzed and that I would need him to take care of me for the rest of my life.

I thought he would be like six years ago when we got married and assured me, "No matter poverty or wealth, health or illness, I will protect and care for you for a lifetime."

But he had a faint expression, silently smoking one cigarette after another on the balcony.

In the end, he only said, "Seraphina, I won't divorce you.

But I need someone to accompany me for the latter half of my life, and I want to have a child. You can't stop me from being with someone else."

Chapter 2

The person Eric was talking about was Ava.

She was an impoverished student, and I sponsored her for five years.

Ava had always been grateful to me, and she would visit me during festivals, addressing me affectionately.

After graduating from university, she couldn't find a job. So, I used my connections to help her secure a good job. When I introduced it to her, Ava smiled sweetly and said,

"Thank you, Ms. Donavan, but I've already found a job as Mr. Marshall's secretary!"

She affectionately held Eric's arm in front of me with an innocent and genuine smile on her face.

Slowly, the smile faded from my face.

My eyes slowly shifted downward, landing on the hand that was holding onto my husband's arm.

Eric noticed something was wrong, gently pushed her away, and explained, "Seraphina, Ava just graduated this year. She doesn't know any better. She's still just a child. Don't take it to heart."

But it was precisely this naive young girl who intentionally got Eric drunk at the company's annual party and took him to a hotel room.

That night, I waited for him at home, unable to sleep a wink.

Meanwhile, they were entangled in passion and intimacy in the hotel room.

The next morning, Ava called me.

"Ms. Donavan, Mr. Marshall got drunk last night. I sent him to Empire hotel. Please come and pick him up."

I took a taxi to the hotel and pushed open the door of the room only to find Eric lying on the bed shirtless, his neck covered in love bites.

Ava feigned innocence and said, "Ms. Donavan, Mr. Marshall was drunk last night, and he mistook me for you... It's all my fault, I don't blame him."

Anger surged through me, and I raised my hand and slapped her.

However, Eric rushed over and shielded her behind him.

"Seraphina, what are you doing?

What happened last night was an accident. If you want to blame someone, blame me. Why did you hit Ava? She's just a secretary!"

But he didn't see it at all.

The young secretary, protected by him, was covering her face and secretly looking up at me with a provocative smile.

I shook my head, trying to clear these messy memories from my mind.

I continued to focus on examining the evidence organized on my laptop.

Over the past two years, I gathered screenshots of all the expenses Eric had incurred for Ava, including luxury handbags, clothes, and skincare products.

I had also wondered why he didn't carry on his relationship with Ava behind my back.

Instead, he openly spent money on her without fear of me discovering it.

When I asked him this question a few months ago, he pondered for a moment before saying seriously, "Ava is so innocent, and I don't want her to be a mistress. She is my girlfriend."

I suddenly laughed.

I couldn't help but ask him, "What about me? After six years of marriage, what am I?"

Eric always looked at me with a gaze filled with pity, a pity that bordered on indifference.

"Seraphina, you are sick after all. You can't spend the rest of your life with me.

I know you love me, and I'm sure you don't want to see me lonely and alone in my old age. You also want to see someone love me, right?"

At that moment, I understood.

Some men were destined to be heartless.

Ever since Eric bought a villa for Ava's dog, I made up my mind to divorce.

I transferred as much money and property as possible under my name, sending some to my mother and some to my best friend.

Even if something were to happen to me, I hoped they would be able to live better lives.

After sorting out all the evidence for the divorce, I drove to the company.

The receptionist raised her eyebrows in surprise when she saw me and smiled. "Mrs. Marshall, why are you here? It's been a while since we last saw you!"

In the past, whenever Eric's company had problems, I would come to help him strategize and overcome difficulties.

The employees of the company knew that the Marshall Group's success owed half of its credit to me.

I smiled and asked, "Where's Eric?"

The receptionist glanced nervously towards the inside and looked somewhat hesitant.

"Mr. Marshall is probably still busy..."

I raised my foot to enter, but the receptionist hastily stopped me.

"Mrs. Marshall, Mr. Marshall gave instructions that no one should be allowed inside. If you have any urgent matters, please let me know, and I'll convey the message."

I smiled gently and took out a divorce agreement from my bag.

"I'm here to divorce him."

Chapter 3

As soon as the words fell, the whole company fell silent.

The employees at their workstations turned their gazes toward me in shock and began whispering among themselves.

The receptionist's jaw dropped in astonishment.

Taking advantage of her momentary lapse, I bypassed her and pushed open the door to Eric's office.

"Don't!" The receptionist shouted.

However, it was too late, as the door had already been opened.

Inside the office, Ava was sitting on Eric's lap, his hands tightly wrapped around her waist as they passionately kissed.

Outside, there were gasps of disbelief.

The discussion grew louder.

"No wonder Mrs. Marshall wants a divorce. Mr. Marshall is openly cheating right here in the office!"

"I've noticed that something off about Ms. Stone for a while!"

"She is just a home-wrecker who interferes with other people's families. She is so shameless!"

The people inside slowly turned their heads upon hearing the commotion.

Upon seeing me at the door, Eric's expression turned unpleasant.

"Seraphina, what are you doing in the company?" he asked.

With a cold face, he scolded and dismissed the employees who were spectating. "If anyone continues to watch, go find the finance department to collect your salary and get out!"

Everyone was cautiously observing my expression.

They thought I came here specifically to catch them in the act or to stage a dramatic confrontation.

But I no longer care.

Expressionless, I handed him the divorce agreement I held in my hand.

"Eric, take a look at the clauses inside. Is there anything else you want to add? Let's get divorced today."

Eric suddenly looked up, stunned, as he gazed at me.

After a moment of silence, he chuckled softly.

"Seraphina, have you lost your mind due to your illness? Do you even know what you're talking about?

You are now afflicted with a rare disease, and survival itself is a problem, let alone remarrying someone else.

"Besides, once you divorce me, you will have nothing left. Are you sure you want to get divorced?"

I shook my head and sneered.

"Eric, I advise you to take a look at the clauses first.

There's also a prenuptial agreement underneath the divorce agreement. After you read it, you won't speak like that anymore."

Six years ago, when Eric proposed to me on his knees, he voluntarily handed me a prenuptial agreement.

It specifically stated that he would be unwaveringly devoted to me for a lifetime.

If he were to cheat or fall out of love, he would leave with nothing, leaving all his assets to me.

Over the years, I had remained by his side, never leaving him.

I watched him go from being a penniless employee to becoming a successful billionaire tycoon.

It seemed that he had long forgotten his initial promise.

He even completely forgot about the prenuptial agreement.

Eric's expression changed as he heard my words, and he quickly lowered his head to check the documents.

He flipped through a few pages roughly, his face turning livid.

Seeing that he had almost finished reading, I calmly spoke up.

"I have consulted a lawyer, and the prenuptial agreement holds legal validity. I came here today to have you sign it.

And by the way, I'll be taking back ownership of the company."

My words were resolute, but Eric's expression grew increasingly grim.

He looked at me deeply and then leaned closer, smiling.

"Seraphina, do you think you can threaten me?

I wrote this prenuptial agreement just for fun. Do you really think I can give you such a big company just because you want it? What a joke!"

With a cold smile, Eric raised his hand and tore the prenuptial agreement into pieces.

I was furious and picked up the ashtray from the table, throwing it at him.

"Eric, you are despicable!"

He stood there like a thug, laughing as he watched me. When the ashtray came crashing toward him, he didn't even bother to dodge.

It hit his forehead right away, creating a wound and causing blood to trickle down from the corner of his eye.

"Eric!"

Ava, who had been eavesdropping at the door while holding a cup of coffee, rushed toward me desperately when she saw Eric's forehead being hit.

"Seraphina, how could you, you shrew! How can you hit him like that?

His forehead must be so painful!"

Ava looked concerned and wanted to approach and console him, but Eric stopped her.

Ava glared at me hatefully.

"You crazy woman, have you gone mad with greed?

You are sick now and unable to take care of Eric for the rest of his life. Why do you have the audacity to stand on the moral high ground and accuse him?

Even if there is a divorce, you should be the one leaving with nothing!"
