Chapter 2
"Mom, wake up, I saw Dad!"
When I opened my eyes again, I saw my daughter standing in front of me unharmed. My joy was all over my face.
"Donna, you're okay. That's great!"
I stood up and hugged my daughter tightly.
After a while, I calmed down and followed my daughter's finger to look over.
I felt like my heart was squeezed in an instant.
This was a hospital, and the direction my daughter was pointing to was a row of seats.
My daughter gently held my hand, looking confused.
"But why is Daddy ignoring us?"
I didn't say anything, but there was an uncontrollable hatred on my face.
The one sitting on the recliner was Jax, who seemed to have not slept much overnight and was leaning against the back of the chair.
I wanted to rush up and interrogate him fiercely, but suddenly, I realized that I could only stand on the spot, unable to move forward or retreat.
My eyes went blank, and it took a while for me to come back to my senses.
Yes, I was dead.
But...
"Mr. Frye, why are you sleeping here?"
Just then, a little boy in a patient's gown appeared in our sight.
And following closely behind was Shirley, who was wearing a pair of white shoes and casual clothes.
Looking at her smiling face, I tried hard to restrain the emotions surging in my eyes in front of my daughter.
In terms of age, Shirley was almost thirty years old now, but whether when it came to skincare or dressing, she looked like a college graduate.
Both of our kids were sick. During this period, I couldn't eat or sleep well, and I had become thin and haggard. I looked to be 46 years old at the age of twenty-six.
Jax, I'm really sorry. Rayan refuses to sleep. He says he can only feel safe with you by his side.
Jax opened his eyes, showing fatigue, but there was no impatience at all.
"After surgery and during the recovery period, his lively nature will return. He's a kid after all."
Saying that, Jax carefully picked up the little boy and smiled.
The boy also smiled happily, "Yes! Mr. Frye said that after I went back to kindergarten, he'd participate in the sports meeting with me. No one will say that I don't have a dad anymore!"
Watching the three of them walk toward the ward, I keenly noticed that my daughter was upset.
"Donna, what's wrong?"
I asked worriedly.
Donna looked in the direction where they were leaving, and her sadness was hard to conceal.
"If my sports meeting and Rayan's sports meeting are on the same day, who will Dad be with?"
"Mom, I will get better, won't I?"
Watching Jax skillfully put the boy onto the bed and calmly take the water handed over by Shirley, the words I prepared were stuck in my throat.
What should I say? How could I explain everything now?
In my eyes, there was resentment and disappointment, but suddenly, Jax looked up and looked in our direction.
I was confused, and then, I saw a nurse coming from behind me and my daughter.
"Miss Houston, the follow-up treatment has been arranged, you can go to pay now."
Shirley nodded, and when she was about to get her bag, she was stopped by Jax.
"Let me do that. You should take care of Rayan."
Jax said.
Shirley nodded.
After that, the nurse took Jax and went out, and along the way, she gave some instructions, which Jax listened to carefully.
"Sir, don't worry too much. We have a kidney for your son. Once the surgery is over, there will be no life-threatening danger."
I clenched my clothes, and I heard Jax immediately speak up.
"He's just my friend's child. I am not his father."
The nurse kept apologizing, and Jax waved his hand, not saying anything else.
Chapter 3
My mood at this time was unusually calm.
What was the use of Jax explaining all this?
How ridiculous!
Not only him, but everyone was ridiculous, including myself.
When I recalled my questions, I found them stupid.
I'd been worried about my daughter's kidney source all the time, while Jax was busy for Shirley.
Seeing that I sent too many messages, he even turned on the "do not disturb" mode for my messages.
Yes, Jax didn't work in vain. Rayan finally had a kidney. It had been the fifth day after the surgery.
As for Donna, because the kidney was taken away, she lost the chance of recovery.
In the end, she was brutally killed by the robbers and left exposed in the wilderness along with me.
It had been five days, and so few people passed by that road. Coupled with the fact that the robbers would dispose of our bodies, it might be a long time before we were discovered.
Jax probably hadn't even turned on WhatsApp for days, and even if he did that, he wouldn't think of me.
At this moment, as if to slap me in the face, Jax opened WhatsApp.
I went over to take a look, but I was puzzled.
No matter who it was, Jax would always make a note of the name. It was his habit.
But he only wrote down a "z" as a note.
"Thank you, the final payment has been transferred."
Jax typed.
After a while, there was a reply.
"Okay, if you have any other needs next time, you can come to me."
Only then did I realize that he was talking to the private detective.
Lost in thought, Jax suddenly got my chat box and frowned at the words I sent.
"Jax! You took your daughter's kidney away!"
"Where did your conscience go? Who is your biological child?“”
"I could turn a blind eye to other things, but not this!"
"You hired a private detective to find the kidney donor and paid a high price to snatch the kidney source for Shirley's son, what about Donna? Do you want her to die?"
"Jax, you deserve to die!"
Looking at the words I sent before, I felt like I was once again involved in the situation, and anger surged in my heart.
Jax was editing the message to be sent on his phone.
As I looked at the phone screen, I felt even more heartache.
"I didn't know that the kidney was Donna's, otherwise, even if I agreed, Shirley wouldn't."
"Don't be so mean. Everything is destined. Maybe, this kidney was never meant for Donna."
"It's not easy for Shirley to take care of Rayan alone. Don't bother her."
After typing these two sentences, Jax hesitated for a moment and typed another sentence.
"Don't worry. I will find another way for Donna's kidney."
Jax clicked the "send" button, and the message was successfully sent, but there was a red exclamation mark.
I wasn't surprised. After sending this message, I blocked him in anger, and the distress message was sent via text.
If I hadn't sent him a text message, he wouldn't have seen my distress message so quickly.
But what was the use?
He didn't believe it at all.
Jax sneered and put down his phone impatiently, and went back to the ward.
Just as he put down his phone, the vibrating sound rang.
Jax immediately answered with a hint of indescribable joy in his tone.
"I'm telling you, friend her now..."
"Jax, Teresa hasn't come back for five days, and she hasn't answered the calls these days!"
Jax's words were interrupted.
The one who called was his mother, who was anxious about not hearing from me all the time.
"You called her and she didn't answer?"
Jax asked.
He got a positive answer from his mother, and Jax sneered.
"Mom, don't worry. We argued, and she's just throwing a tantrum."
His mother immediately retorted.
"Do you think Teresa is like you? Even if she argues with you, she won't give me a hard time!"
Jax perfunctorily responded, and coincidentally, Shirley returned to the ward with the meal. He just hung up the phone.
Donna didn't know many words and couldn't understand the argument we had on the phone, but when she heard Jax's mother calling, she turned her head to wipe away her tears.
"Mom, I want to eat the fish stewed by Grandma..."
My daughter hugged me and cried.
I hugged my daughter and silently stroked her head.
"What's wrong?"
As soon as Shirley came in, she spoke with concern.
Jax shook his head and said nothing.
"Did you have another argument with Teresa?"
Shirley immediately said.
"I also feel guilty about the kidney. Let's go and see her now. Whatever she wants to vent on me, I'll accept it!"
Shirley quickly put down the lunch box, her tone full of anxiety, and even her eyes turned slightly red.
But I found it disgusting.
"Alright, I'll handle this matter. You don't need to go. I'm afraid she won't have a good attitude for you."
Jax interrupted her words.
Looking at Shirley's helpless look, I felt puzzled.
I didn't understand why I couldn't kill them after becoming a wandering soul.
Why should I be good to Shirley?
Donna's kidney was intercepted, and her life would be on countdown. The instigator of all this was her father. Was there anything more disgusting than this?
If Shirley felt guilty, why didn't she stop it when she knew that Donna's kidney was intercepted?
At that time, Rayan hadn't been sent to the operating room yet. Why pretend to be a good person now?
With a ringtone, I looked at Jax with a bad temper and saw his face suddenly change after he answered the phone.
