My Fated Mate Planned My Public Rejection
My Fated Mate Planned My Public Rejection Summary
Chapter 1 of My Fated Mate Planned My Public Rejection
The whispers started before the echo of his voice even faded.
"I will not take her," Derek said, stepping back from me on the raised platform. His lip curled with obvious disgust. "Dawnridge can keep their bad luck. I won't tie my bloodline to a defective wolf."
Around us, hundreds of Alphas, Lunas, and high-ranking wolves from across the eastern seaboard watched in stony silence. Then came the murmurs, sharp and cruel.
*The Cursed She-Wolf.*
*Three rejections in three years.*
*Her wolf awakened late. There’s something broken inside her.*
I stood perfectly still. Years of public humiliation had taught me how to lock my face into stone. I did not blink. I did not let my hands shake. But beneath my ribs, my wolf curled into a tight, trembling ball and whimpered.
Three arranged matches, negotiated with desperate care by my Alpha, Callum Reid. Three public rejections. My faith in the Moon Goddess didn’t just crack; it turned to dust.
I turned to walk away, ready to swallow the shame in private, when the air in the ballroom suddenly thickened.
A suffocating, raw Alpha presence crashed over the hall like a tidal wave. Conversations died instantly. Warriors instinctively lowered their heads.
Heavy, steady footsteps crossed the marble floor.
Alpha Sebastian Hunter of the Shadowveil Pack cut through the crowd. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and lethal, his dark gaze locked entirely on me. The scent hit me a second later—crushed cedar and the electric ozone of a gathering thunderstorm.
He stopped a foot from me. The sheer gravity of his presence made it hard to breathe.
"You won't take her?" Sebastian's voice boomed across the vast hall, smooth and deadly. He didn't even look at Derek. He looked only at me.
"I recognize her scent," Sebastian declared, his voice carrying the absolute authority of an apex predator. "Wildflower and cedar. My wolf knows its equal. Lennon Marshall is my fated mate."
He reached out, his warm fingers closing over my wrist.
A shockwave of heat surged up my arm, crackling down my spine like lightning. The mate bond snapped into place—raw, golden, and terrifyingly real. Inside me, my wolf threw back her head and let out a long, joyous howl, drinking in his intoxicating scent.
"She belongs to Shadowveil," Sebastian said, turning his chin to the stunned assembly. "And anyone who insults her answers to me."
Tears pricked my eyes. After years of darkness, the Moon Goddess had finally answered my prayers.
Lost in the warmth of his grip, I never saw the quick, knowing look Sebastian flicked across the room to his Beta, Marcus Hale. And I never noticed Karina Morales, standing among the Silverfang Pack delegates, watching us with a sharp, cold smile that didn't reach her eyes.

Two days later, Sebastian brought me to Shadowveil territory.
The pack grounds were breathtaking—a massive, fortress-like stone estate nestled against towering pines. Sebastian was everything I had ever dreamed a mate would be. He held my hand as we walked the grounds. He introduced me to the pack warriors as their future Luna, his scent wrapping around me like a warm blanket. For the first time in my life, my wolf felt safe.
In the formal receiving room, he introduced me to his mother, former Luna Tiana Hunter.
Tiana sat in a high-backed armchair, sipping black tea. Her silver hair was pinned with surgical precision. When her eyes swept over me, there was no warmth—only a cool, assessing weight.
"So this is Callum Reid’s little stray," Tiana said softly, setting her porcelain cup down with a delicate clink. "Dawnridge is a very modest pack, Lennon. And your... unfortunate history precedes you."
My chest tightened. "I only hope to serve Shadowveil well, Luna Tiana."
"We shall see," she murmured, offering a tight, polished smile. "An Alpha needs a Luna who commands strength, not pity."
Sebastian stepped closer, resting a comforting hand on the small of my back. "That's enough, Mother. Lennon is my mate. That is all that matters."
I leaned into his side, grateful for his protection. I told myself Tiana was just being a protective mother. Shadowveil was powerful. It made sense she would be cautious about a stranger with a stained reputation.

A week into my stay, I was reading in the sunlit parlor when the heavy double doors swung open.
A woman walked in, effortless and radiant. She wore a tailored cream coat, her dark hair falling in soft curls around a face that was strikingly beautiful.
"Sebastian!" she called out, her voice like honey.
Sebastian rose from his desk with an immediate, easy smile. "Karina. You made good time from Silverfang."
Karina Morales crossed the room and embraced him, lingering just a second longer than a handshake. Sebastian laughed, squeezing her arm with the casual warmth of someone he had known his entire life.
"Lennon, come meet Karina," Sebastian said, gesturing for me to join them. "Her family has been close with mine since we were pups."
Karina turned to me, her green eyes wide and bright. "You must be the famous Lennon. Sebastian hasn't stopped mind-linking me about you." She extended both hands, taking mine in a warm, gentle grip. "It's so wonderful to finally meet the girl who captured our Alpha."
She was gracious. Flawless. Every word was delivered with perfect, polished warmth.
Yet beneath my ribs, my wolf suddenly bared her teeth. A dark, nameless dread prickled across my skin, warning me to pull away.
"It's nice to meet you, Karina," I said quietly, keeping my face smooth.
I looked at Sebastian. He was watching Karina with soft, relaxed eyes. I swallowed hard and forced my wolf to calm down. *She's just a childhood friend,* I told myself, burying the instinct. *Don't ruin this.*
