Chapter 1
Samantha woke up very tired stood in the kitchen, the sun barely rising outside the window. Her hands trembled as she reached for her phone, the screen lighting up with a text message that would change everything.
“I’m sorry, Sam. I never meant for it to happen this way. I hope one day you’ll understand. - Lily”
It was from Lily, her best friend for over ten years. A wave of nausea hit her. What could Lily be apologizing for? What had she done?
Before she could process, the door to the bedroom opened, and her husband, Bryan, stepped into the hallway. His eyes were red, like he hadn’t slept the whole night. She swallowed hard, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill over.
“Sam, we need to talk,” he said, his voice low.
Chapter 1
Samantha had always believed in the idea of perfect friendships and perfect marriages. She and Lily Turner had been inseparable since high school, sharing every secret, every joy, every heartbreak. And Bryan… Bryan Smith had been her rock. They’d built a life together, a beautiful home in the city, a perfect little family, or so it seemed.
But now, everything was crumbling, piece by piece, and the ground beneath her feet felt unstable. The text message from Lily felt like a prelude to something much worse, but she couldn’t yet imagine what. Her hands were shaking as she looked at Bryan, his face a mixture of guilt and sorrow.
“Where were you last night, Bryan?” she asked, her voice shaking despite her best efforts to stay calm.
Bryan looked away, unable to meet her eyes. “I… I was at Lily’s. I didn’t want to hurt you, Sam. I never meant for this to happen.”
The air between them grew thick, suffocating. Samantha’s mind raced, trying to make sense of the words. What had happened between Lily and Bryan? She felt like she was drowning, her heart breaking with each passing second. The betrayal was like a knife in her chest, but she wasn’t ready to pull it out just yet. Not until she had answers.

Over the next few days, Samantha did everything she could to avoid facing the truth. She buried herself in so many works, kept her distance from Bryan, and avoided any contact with Lily. But no matter how hard she tried, the truth always found a way to sneak up on her.
It was when she was at a coffee shop one afternoon, mindlessly scrolling through social media, that she saw it. A picture of Bryan and Lily, taken at a luxury resort, holding hands on a balcony, their smiles too wide, too perfect. The caption read: “A new chapter with my love.”
Samantha’s heart stopped. She couldn’t breathe. This wasn’t just a betrayal, it was a declaration. Bryan had chosen Lily over her. The realization hit her like a punch to the gut. It wasn’t just a momentary lapse of judgment, they had been together. For how long? How long had they been lying to her?
It felt like the coffee shop was spinning. She read the words again, making sure they were real. But they were.
Bryan had chosen Lily. He had left her, his wife of five years, for the one person she had trusted the most.
Tears blurred her vision, and for a moment, all she could do was breathe. How could this happen?
Chapter 2
The moment she decided to confront Lily, her whole body was shaking. She needed answers. She needed to know why. And more than anything, she needed to hear it from Lily’s mouth.
The phone rang once, twice, and on the third ring, Lily picked up.
“Sam?” she said, her voice soft, almost apologetic.
Samantha swallowed the lump in her throat. “Lily, we need to talk.”
Lily hesitated. “I didn’t think you’d find out this way.”
Samantha’s hands tightened around the phone. “How long, Lily? How long have you and Bryan been seeing each other behind my back?”
There was silence on the other end of the line, and then, finally, Lily spoke. “I never meant for it to happen. I… I was weak. I didn’t know what I was doing.”
Samantha’s heart felt like it was breaking. “Weak? You betrayed me, you were having affair with my husband Lily. You knew everything about me, about Bryan, about our life. How could you do this?”
“I’m sorry,” Lily whispered. “But I love him, Sam. I’m pregnant. I’m having his baby.”
The words hung in the air, suffocating Samantha. She felt the room spin again, as if everything was falling apart. Pregnant. Bryan was going to be a father. And the worst part? It wasn’t with her.
The pain hit her like a wave, threatening to knock her under. But Samantha wasn’t ready to drown just yet.
Samantha sat in her car, the engine running but her hands frozen on the wheel. The words Lily had just spoken echoed in her mind: I’m pregnant. I’m having his baby. It was as if the world around her had gone silent. The only sound was the relentless tick of the clock on the dashboard.
She had to get out of here. She had to do something. But what? The betrayal cut so deep, it was hard to breathe, let alone think clearly.
With a shaky breath, she wiped away the tear that had fallen down her cheek. Her emotions were a whirlwind—hurt, rage, confusion, disbelief. But above all, there was something stronger, something burning inside her.
And that was “Determination”.
She wasn’t going to let this destroy her. Not now, not ever. But first, she needed to confront Bryan. She needed to understand. There had to be a reason, right? There had to be more to it than just love. There had to be something she could do to fix it. She wasn’t ready to give up her life with him so easily.
By the time Samantha arrived home, the house felt so empty. Bryan wasn’t home yet, but she could already feel the tension building in her chest. What was she going to say to him? What could she possibly say?
When she heard the door open, her heart skipped a beat. Bryan walked in, his eyes immediately locking on her. His face was a mixture of guilt and uncertainty, as if he was expecting a fight.
“Samantha,” he began, his voice low. “We need to talk.”
She looked at him, her anger and hurt bubbling to the surface. “Talk?” she repeated, her voice trembling with emotion. “You’ve said enough already. You’ve already made your decision.”
Bryan stepped forward, his eyes pleading. “Sam, please, I never meant to hurt you. I thought I could fix things, but when Lily and I……”
Samantha cut him off, shaking her head in disbelief. “You thought you could fix things? You’re having a baby with her, Bryan! How is that fixing anything?”
He flinched, his face pale. “It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. It just… happened. But Sam, I love you. I don’t want to lose you.”
Samantha’s chest tightened at his words, but they didn’t sound sincere. They didn’t feel like the Bryan she had known. “Do you love me, Bryan?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Or did you just love the idea of me?”
His eyes softened. “Of course I love you. You’re my wife. You’ve always been the one. But things between us… we’ve been distant for so long. And then, when I started spending time with Lily……..”
“Don’t you dare blame this on me, or make me look like the victim here” Samantha snapped, cutting him off again. “You were the one who turned away. You were the one who betrayed me.”
Bryan looked away, shame washing over his face. “I don’t know what happened. I lost myself, Sam. I’m so sorry.”
But it wasn’t enough. The apology wasn’t enough. Nothing could undo what he had done.
Chapter 3
That night, Samantha couldn’t sleep. She lay awake in their bed, staring at the ceiling, the pain of betrayal cutting through her like a jagged knife. Every corner of the house seemed to remind her of Bryan—his scent on the pillow, the jacket he’d left on the couch. She couldn’t escape him.
But more than the pain of losing him, what cut deeper was the loss of herself. She had spent years building a life with Bryan, giving him her trust, her heart. And now, all of it had crumbled into dust.
But Samantha wasn’t a victim. She was strong, even if she didn’t feel it right now. She had a life to rebuild, and it wasn’t going to be easy.
The next morning, she called a lawyer.
Few weeks later
It had been two weeks since the confrontation. Two weeks since she had packed her things, moved into a small apartment, and started trying to rebuild her life. It hadn’t been easy. The grief, the anger, the sadness—it all weighed on her. But she was making progress, slowly but surely.
And then, just as she had started to find some semblance of peace, a knock on the door startled her. She opened it to find Bryan standing there, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket. His face was tired, worn down.
“Sam, can we talk?” he asked, his voice soft.
She stepped back, her heart sinking. The last thing she wanted right now was to hear more apologies. “I think we’ve talked enough, Bryan.”
“Please,” he begged. “I need you to hear me out. I’m not asking for you to forgive me. I’m just asking for one chance to explain. Please.”
Samantha crossed her arms over her chest. She had no idea what he could say that would make a difference, but part of her—just a small part—wanted to hear him out. She had to know.
“Fine,” she said, gesturing for him to come inside. “But this is the last time. I can’t keep doing this.”
Bryan stepped inside, his eyes searching hers as if he were looking for something, anything to hold on to.
“I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness, Sam. But I need you to understand something. Lily and I… it wasn’t what you think. We didn’t plan this. I was lost. I felt alone. You and I, we were drifting apart, and she was there when I needed someone. I never thought it would go this far. I never thought I’d hurt you. I regret it every day.”
Samantha couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy, but it was quickly replaced by anger. “Do you really think that’s enough?” she snapped. “Do you think telling me how sorry you are is going to fix this? I’ve spent years of my life with you, Bryan, and you threw it all away.”
He looked down, guilt washing over him again. “I know I messed up. I’ve hurt you in ways I can never undo. But I’m asking for a chance to prove that I can be the man you deserve. That I can fix this.”
Samantha’s heart twisted. She wanted to believe him. But she couldn’t let herself be blind to the truth anymore.
“You hurt me, Bryan,” she said, her voice shaking with emotion. “And you’ve hurt Lily, too. You don’t get to walk away from this and expect everything to go back to normal.”
The days that followed Bryan’s visit were a blur. Samantha tried to keep busy—work, errands, trying to reclaim the pieces of her life that had felt so shattered. But no matter how hard she tried to distract herself, her thoughts kept drifting back to Bryan. Back to the life they’d built together, the promises they’d made, and now, the destruction he had caused.
She spent hours sorting through her emotions, trying to understand if there was any way back from this. Was forgiveness possible? Could she ever trust him again? Could she even trust herself to make the right choice?
Her phone buzzed on the kitchen counter, snapping her out of her thoughts. It was an unknown number. Hesitant, she answered.
“Hello?”
“Sam,” came Bryan’s voice. It was hoarse, like he hadn’t slept in days. “I need to talk to you. In person. It’s about Lily.”
Samantha’s pulse quickened. “What about her?”
“I can’t explain over the phone,” he said urgently. “But please, you need to hear this. There’s something you don’t know. Something that changes everything.”
Her heart dropped. She wasn’t sure she was ready for any more shocking revelations, but the anxiety in Bryan’s voice urged her to hear him out.
“Fine,” she replied, steeling herself. “Where?”
“The usual café at town” he replied
