Chapter 1
I participated in a variety show, and the host asked the guests to call their other half.
"I'll go first!"
Angela Bird, the rising star, beat me to it and called her boyfriend sweetly.
"Baby, aren't you working at this time? Why did you call? Do you miss me?"
Eddie Ford, known as the future genius in the business world, affectionately called her "Baby".
Everyone was envious, but my face was pale.
Because Eddie was my husband.
I just gave birth to a child for him.
***
I returned to work after childbirth.
My agent forced me into a live interview.
According to the script, the host took out a piece of paper from the box and showed it to the camera.
"The dare for this round is to call your other half and act coquettishly for more than thirty seconds!
"It's a tough challenge. Who dares to try?"
As the host, Jenson Clark, spoke, he looked at me.
But before he could call my name, Angela took the initiative to speak.
"Jenson, come on! Didn't we agree not to mention my relationship?"
She revealed it herself.
Jenson was stunned for a second and then quickly said.
"Good news should be shared, of course!
"Angela, what does your boyfriend do for a living? Is he available now?"
"He's a fool in love. He'll pick up whenever I call!" Angela said sweetly.
She said it loudly.
Instantly, there were countless bullet comments.
"She's in love! Who is the lucky guy?"
"She's so inexperienced in love! She blushed the second she was asked to call him!"
Everyone was looking forward to Angela's other half.
Only I took a deep breath and felt helpless.
Since I became pregnant with my daughter, Ruth, I hadn't appeared in front of the camera for a long time.
If I failed to perform well on today's show, my agent probably wouldn't arrange any other jobs for me in the next three months.
I needed the camera to help the audience remember who I was.
But Angela took away the question specially prepared for me.
Was she unintentional? Or intentional?
I didn't know.
Meanwhile, Angela had already dialed a number.
The phone just rang, and soon, a man's voice came from the other end of the line.
"Baby."
The indulgent and magnetic voice echoed in the studio.
Everyone took a breath at the same time.
Because they could tell that it was the voice of Eddie, the new person in charge of the Ford family!
"Angela, your boyfriend is?" Jenson wanted to be sure.
In the next second, Angela revealed the answer.
She snorted, blushed, and complained.
"Eddie! You're so annoying!
"I've said it many times! Don't call me Baby! Why haven't you changed?"
She was the popular star, whereas he was the new person in charge of the Ford family. They were perfectly matched.
The bullet comments in the live broadcast were even more.
In the studio, many people cast envious glances at Angela.
"Alright, alright. Angela, I'll stop if you don't like it.
"But ... aren't you working at this time?
"Why did you call? Do you miss me?"
His tone was indulgent, and she didn't have to act coquettishly at all.
The cheers and jeers at the scene continued.
Only my eyelashes trembled, and I dug my nails with manicure into my palms deeply. I couldn't believe it.
How could Eddie be Angela's boyfriend?
He was my husband...
Chapter 2
Eddie and I had been secretly married for seven years.
In these seven years, I had mentioned several times that I wanted to make our relationship public, but he just sneered.
"Gloria, once someone knows you're related to the Ford Group, it's gonna go bankrupt. You're just an actress."
He didn't want to.
Over time, everyone became curious as to why I claimed to be married to the outside world but was never seen with any man.
Some said I was kept by some rich businessman.
Some said they saw me in the car of some sugar daddy.
They smeared me and said I was a slut in showbiz. Eddie ignored the rumors and refused to clarify.
But now, he was tenderly coaxing Angela on the phone, keeping calling her "Baby".
Jenson reminded him that we were live, yet he just casually greeted the audience.
"Hello, everyone. I am Eddie, Angela's boyfriend.
"She's still young and might speak without thinking. If she offends you, I'm sorry. Please look out for her."
Eddie, the heir of a wealthy family, personally handled his girlfriend's interpersonal relationships.
Jenson and the guests all expressed their admiration.
After the phone call ended, the dedicated host Jenson, once again turned his attention to me.
"Gloria, Angela just vividly showed us a perfect performance of acting spoiled.
"Wanna give it a go?"
Angela heard his words.
Then she immediately handed me the phone.
"Gloria, I heard that you got married, but I didn't know who your husband was.
"You've kept it a secret for so long. It's time to introduce him to us today, right?"
She blinked and smiled complacently.
And she ought to feel that way.
She called my husband. Who should I call?
I held the phone and hesitated.
The bullet comments were all slandering me.
[Whoever keeps her only cares about her performance in bed. Or why is she in such a dilemma?]
[I heard that Gloria has given birth. She doesn't know who the father is? Or how come she can't even remember his number?]
[Everyone, calm down! Gloria is a well-known slut in showbiz. No man wants to admit that she is his wife, so it makes sense that she doesn't call him.]
Under their discussion, the entry of #No one wants Gloria quickly topped the trending topic list.
I fought so hard for today's show.
Yet it made me the so-called slut that everyone loathed once again.
I had a bad reputation in showbiz.
Every time I was cursed by netizens, Eddie would have the housekeeper turn on the signal blocker in the villa.
Today was no exception.
When Eddie entered the door, the signal jammer had been on for five hours.
He didn't see me in the living room, so he pushed open the door of the nursery, frowning.
I was already in bed with Ruth in my arms.
He frowned and said unhappily, "You can sleep without me?"
We had married for seven years, and I'd wait on the sofa every night until Eddie came back. Then I'd go to bed.
But not today.
I didn't want to face him, so I turned off all the lights and went to bed on time, cowardly protecting myself.
But Eddie wasn't used to it.
He met my eyes and put a huge gift box on the bedside.
"It's for you. Open it and take a look?"
In the past, Eddie only sent me a gift after he upset me.
Today, he gave me a gift again.
But when I looked at the box, I had no desire to open it.
He cheated on me! He really thought a gift could make me happy?
I didn't move.
Seeing that, Eddie urged, "Gloria, what do you mean? You don't like it?"
He looked gloomy as if he had put a lot of effort into the gift.
I paused for a second. Then I raised my hand and pointed at the baby diapers, baby powder, and other baby products marked on the box and looked at him, feeling a bit speechless.
"So what if I open it? Anything I can use?"
I didn't accept his charity and cried instead.
Eddie was angry in an instant.
His face turned red as he pointed at my nose and scolded, "Gloria, what's this attitude?
"You tricked me into this marriage! So, you've gotta pay!
"Besides, you can't even compare to Angela at all! Is it not normal for me to choose to be with her?
"You really think you're my wife? Dream on!"
Chapter 3
Eddie's cold and ruthless voice awakened Ruth, who was sleeping.
She waved her little hands anxiously and started crying.
"Mommy... Mommy..."
She was so young, and the sound she made was not much different from that of a helpless animal cub.
My heart softened, and I quickly picked her up.
Eddie ignored us and went straight to pick up a call from Angela.
"Honey, since you're not here, I can't even find my slippers. The floor is so cold when I walk!"
Angela's affected complaints came from the other end of the line.
Eddie, who found Ruth's crying unbearable, instantly softened his expression.
"How could you not see them? They're at..."
As he spoke, he walked outside.
It started raining at some point.
But that didn't stop Eddie from going out at all.
He was like a hero, rushing to save the love of his life.
And I could only smile bitterly, letting pain and sorrow engulf me.
After the show today, Angela found me and shared her alternate account with me.
She couldn't understand my lost and confused expression when I heard Eddie's voice from her earpiece.
With a disdainful look on her face, she asked me, "Gloria, what kind of expression was that?
"I've been with Eddie for over two years. Don't tell me this is the first time you've known about me."
I looked bewildered, and she directly showed me her alternate account.
"See for yourself. Eddie loves me very much. Even though you gave birth to his child, he still loves me only!"
Angela was extremely cruel. On the alternate account were many things about Eddie that I didn't know.
Two years ago in May, she said.
"My boyfriend loves me so much! When I said I wanted to eat lychees, he peeled a full bag of lychees for me! His hands were red!"
Last winter, she said, "When I was crossing the road, a drunk driver ran a red light. I almost got hit! Luckily, my boyfriend showed up in time and protected me!"
Half a year ago, she said, "My boyfriend is so stupid. I said I didn't want to have children, so he let me hold someone else's for a while. I was joking, OK? For him, I can have a hundred children!"
Angela's words were vivid. Looking at those words, I cried before I realized it.
What made me even more devastated was that Angela seemed to be worried that words alone were not persuasive enough.
Under the post about children, she deliberately posted a photo.
Ruth's face was pinched by her sharp manicure, and Ruth was crying miserably.
I was Ruth's mother, and I had no idea when Eddie took her away!
I was upset and restless all night.
And Ruth suddenly had a high fever as if she shared my emotions.
Eddie drove away the only car in the villa.
I carried Ruth downstairs, wanting to take her to the hospital, but the housekeeper stopped me.
"Mrs. Ford, Mr. Ford said you couldn't go anywhere without his permission."
Eddie went to see Angela while trapping me here.
I was full of sadness. I laughed coldly and cried uncontrollably.
Ruth's fever was severe, and no matter what I tried, her body temperature was still high.
Helpless, I went to the housekeeper again.
"Ruth is sick. I have to take her to the hospital. If you're afraid I'll run away, you can send someone to follow me."
The housekeeper was very stubborn. "Mrs. Ford, sorry. I don't have Mr. Ford's permission."
He suggested that I should call Eddie.
But after the phone rang for a long time, it was finally answered, and Angela's voice came through.
"Gloria, now everyone is shipping me and Eddie.
"You're calling him now? Aren't you worried I'll tell everyone that you covet him and want to take him away from me?"
She thought I wanted Eddie to come home.
But I just wanted to save Ruth.
After a pause of a few seconds, I said to her as calmly as possible.
"Angela, my daughter is sick. Give the phone to Eddie now. Tell his men to let me go!"
"Go?" Angela sneered. "Gloria, if you were willing to leave, you wouldn't have stayed at the Ford family for seven years.
"I know exactly what you're thinking. This is your way of keeping Eddie around!"
She was about to hang up.
I could only stop her and beg, "Angela, please believe me. I really didn't mean to ... disturb you!
"I just want to save my daughter. She's sick..."
Angela hung up the phone before I finished speaking.
Before hanging up the phone, she grinned.
"Gloria, she's sick, not dead. What's the use of pretending to be pitiful by using her as an excuse?
"Besides, even if she dies, Eddie won't leave me. We're going to do role-play tonight. I'll be the teacher, and he'll be my student."
