Chapter 4
I returned to the operating room in a daze.
When I saw Hannah again, she couldn't even lift her hands.
She was still so obedient. Tears soaked the pillow without saying a word of discomfort to me.
Her voice was hoarse, and she said to me weakly, "Mom... I'm so tired... I want to sleep.
Mom... Hannah loves you..."
"No, don't sleep, Hannah." I tightly held my daughter's little hand, tears uncontrollably streaming down my face, "Don't you want to see Dad? Dad is on his way, Hannah. Wait a little longer before sleeping, okay?"
"Dad... I..."
Before she could finish, Hannah's hand dropped, and she lost her last breath.
My brain went blank, and my heart felt like it was being violently hammered, the pain spreading throughout my body.
In a daze, I seemed to hear the familiar voice of Baldwin outside the door, "Fortunately, everything is fine. Don't worry too much. Brandon is so strong. He will definitely grow up safe and sound."
My daughter didn't see her father for the last time until the end of her life.
She left this world with eternal regret.
And her father blessed another little boy to grow up safely.
But my daughter would not grow up.
Chapter 5
"Mia, what's wrong with you? Just because I haven't been home for a few days to take care of Brandon in the hospital, you won't let Hannah go to kindergarten?
The teachers have told me that she hasn't been to class for several days.
I have told you, Brandon has congenital heart disease. It's not easy for Sylvia to take care of him alone. As the principle of the kindergarten, I just have the empathy that a normal person should have to take care of her.
It's you who have dirty thoughts and suspect us!
Stop doing these meaningless things and send Hannah to school quickly!" Just as the words fell, the phone hung up.
After Hannah had an accident for so long, the first phone call from Baldwin was a questioning one.
"Other teachers?" I was afraid it wa Sylvia.
I asked Charles to help notify the other teachers to attend my daughter's funeral.
Hannah loved staying in the kindergarten when she was alive.
Not only because the teachers treated her well, but also because her father was the principal of the kindergarten.
She was proud and believed that she had the best father in the world.
But it was in her beloved kindergarten.
Because of her beloved father's neglect,
she left forever.
"Have something at least. Hannah won't want to see you like this."
Since Hannah left, I had been unable to sleep or eat.
Charles took a leave of absence because he was worried about my condition.
He was grateful for the helping hand I extended when he was at a loss.
He had taken care of me and my daughter over the years.
But it was not that I didn't want to eat.
It was just that I vomited the mouthful of food I reluctantly swallowed after only two seconds.
Vomiting blood again, I finally couldn't hold on and collapsed.
Charles took me to the hospital, but unfortunately, I encountered two figures I detested the most.
"Charles, it's not appropriate for you to go out with my wife at this time, right?"
Before Baldwin could finish questioning, Sylvia behind him tugged at his sleeve, her voice filled with concern.
"Baldwin, Brandon is still waiting for us. He's still so little. I'm afraid..."
Baldwin's face suddenly showed worry. In his eyes, Brandon lying alone in the hospital bed was a big deal.
But clearly, when Hannah was in the intensive care unit, she also lay alone there.
Even when she passed away, Baldwin wasn't by her side.
After hearing Sylvia's words, he didn't even care about us and turned around to take her away.
Before leaving, he only left one sentence.
"As a mother, remember yo behave yourself!"
"As a mother?"
My Hannah was gone.
No one would call me mom anymore.
I could no longer restrain the urge to destroy everything in my heart.
I was eager to see Baldwin's reaction when he heard about his daughter's death.
Why was I the only one suffering in hell?
Baldwin, on the other hand, was still enjoying the joy of family life.
I stopped him and hoarsely said, "Baldwin, do you think your daughter Hannah, walking on the road to the netherworld, will be afraid?"
Chapter 6
Baldwin paused and turned his face to the side. His expression was obscure.
There seemed to be hesitation, concern, and disgust.
The next second, only sarcasm remained.
"Mia, you are really crazy!
It's pathetic for Hannah to have a mother like you!"
After saying that, he didn't stop his footsteps and walked out of my sight without hesitation.
It would be great if I could really become crazy. Then I wouldn't have to feel the heart-wrenching pain all the time.
Hannah, Mommy was very tired, but I must seek justice for you.
My breathing became rapid, and I couldn't hold on anymore. I fell down directly and was caught by Charles.
Until the day of the funeral, Baldwin never asked Hannah again.
I sent him the time and address of the funeral, but he didn't reply.
I asked Charles for Sylvia's contact information.
I knew it was probably useless.
But I still put myself in a humble position, shedding tears with every word, hoping that as a mother, she could empathize a little and help persuade Baldwin to attend Hannah's funeral.
Hannah didn't see her father before she passed away. For this last time, I wanted to let her leave peacefully.
Sylvia promised, "Mrs. Duncan, you know, Baldwin is very stubborn. Once he decides something, he won't change. I can only try my best to persuade him."
But Baldwin didn't come until the funeral was over.
I opened their social media, and Baldwin didn't update. Sylvia's latest post was two hours ago.
In the photo, Baldwin squatted next to Brandon and bought him a toy. Sylvia made a heart gesture in the picture.
The caption says, [I guess this is happiness.]
I subconsciously scrolled through her more Instagram posts.
While I was running around handling the funeral arrangements for my daughter, they were celebrating the discharge of Brandon.
On the day Hannah left, Baldwin stayed by their side all night, pouring tea and water for them, quite busy.
On the day my daughter was in danger, he put her aside and hurriedly took her son to the hospital.
When the electricity in the house burned out, he accompanied Sylvia, who was afraid of thunderstorms, and the three of them huddled on the sofa happily.
On our wedding anniversary, he was busy celebrating with Sylvia that they could work together in the same kindergarten.
When Hannah and I were trapped on the road due to the heavy rain, he rushed to the airport to pick them up and bring them back to the country.
…
There were countless such stories.
I was the only one who was kept in the dark all the time.
I remembered Hannah asked me in confusion, "Why is Dad never there when we need him? Isn't he a superhero who can transform and help me and Mom?"
I always comforted her, "Dad is very busy, because he is a superhero for many other kids, so we should understand him."
It turned out that this was because he was Brandon's superhero, not Hannah's.
Others said that a man's first love had a great impact, but I didn't believe it before marriage.
My college roommate was also Baldwin's high school classmate.
She told me that Baldwin loved his first love, Sylvia, very much, and did many things that broke his principles for her.
After high school graduation, Sylvia went abroad, and Baldwin remained silent for a long time.
He gradually cheered up until he was with me.
I thought my husband, whom I loved with all my heart and love, would also have feelings for me.
I never expected that this little bit of affection could not compare to his friendship with Sylvia.
But it was okay. "Hannah, Mommy will seek justice for you,"
I silently said in my heart.
I uploaded a 20-second video to the internet.
I knew
this was the only way to force Baldwin to see me.
