Chapter 1
My dad was so sick and still rushed from the hospital to attend my wedding.
At the wedding venue, my dad, with hot tears in his eyes, handed my hand to Dixon.
But because of a phone call, Dixon got rid of my hand and left in a hurry,
and I became the biggest joke.
My mom was so angry that she had a heart attack. She died before she could be sent to the hospital.
My dad was devastated and went with her.
At the same time, Dixon's beloved childhood sweetheart posted: “Coughing twice and someone immediately came running to bring me medicine, it's so nice to be spoiled!”
The attached photo was an intimate photo of the two of them.
I was trembling as I took a screenshot of the picture and sent it to Dixon questioning, “Is this your reason for leaving the wedding behind?”
It wasn't until after my parents' cremation that Dixon's response came back late: “We can have the wedding any day, but Rachel can't live without me.”
-
"Dixon, I'm breaking up with you."
Disheartened, I sent the last message to Dixon and then blacklisted him.
The first time I met Dixon was in the university library.
Under the setting sun, his side face glowing with his head down reading, and his unintentional smile made me fall in love with him at a glance, and I could not stop loving him.
Under my persistent pursuit, Dixon, the God's favored one, finally fell in love with me.
Our relationship lasted for seven years.
From twenty to twenty-seven, the seven most precious years of my youth were spent with Dixon.
Knowing that he had a weak stomach, I learned to cook according to his tastes and made him nutritious food for his stomach in different ways every day.
I knew that he liked independent girls, so I took on everything alone. From changing the light bulb to repairing the water pipe, from taking medicines when sick to going to hospital, I had never troubled Dixon once.
I had always been cautious and humble in this relationship, putting Dixon first. I thought that would make me Dixon's type.
However, it wasn't until I saw Rachel that I realized it was possible for a girl to pout in front of him.
It turned out that Dixon, who I thought was cold and didn't like to smile, also has such a tender soul.
At any time, a phone call from Rachel could make Dixon abandon everything and run to her.
Every time he would just say, "Rachel can't live without me."
I tried my best to not care about it, but it became an excuse for Dixon to take care of Linda again and again.
For Rachel's sake, he had interrupted the wedding without any hesitation, putting my parents and I in such an awkward situation.
My dad was already seriously ill, but in order to attend my wedding himself, he ignored the doctor's obstruction and endured the pain to support himself to come to the wedding venue.
His greatest wish before he died was to see me married to my beloved and live a good life.
However, this wedding, which our whole family had been looking forward to, became the funeral of my parents.
"Dad, Mom, I'm so sorry."
My tears dried up, but the guilt in my heart could not be erased.
I had let my parents down. I hated myself even more for being blind to love someone like Dixon.
Once you made this kind of mistake, you would regret it for the rest of your life.
I wiped the urns of my parents over and over again, and finally carefully put them into my bag.
I decided to take the ashes of my parents back to our hometown and let them rest in there.
As soon as I walked out of the house, I met Dixon and Rachel, who were talking and laughing as they walked toward me.
Seeing me carry my luggage out, Dixon's relaxed brows furrowed instantly. "It's just a wedding! We can hold it anytime. Now you are breaking up with me and running away from home? Are you done yet?"
Chapter 2
From Dixon's point of view, it was not a big deal for him to run away from the marriage. It was unreasonable for me to break up with him.
Rachel took Dixon's arm to comfort him and said, "Dixon, don't be angry. I'll explain it to her."
As she spoke, she looked at me and said gently, "Janet, I've been feeling a little unwell these past few days. Dixon was worried about me, so he took care of me for a few days and it affected your wedding. I'm really sorry. Please don't blame him."
Rachel's tone was quite sincere, but the way she looked at me was obviously full of provocation. She held Dixon's arm tightly, obviously declaring her sovereignty.
"Huh, your boyfriend really dotes on you."
My heart was as still as water, and my voice was as cold as ice.
"Janet, can you talk nicely? Rachel is sick, but you're still so sarcastic. Is it necessary for you to be so narrow-minded?"
Dixon could not wait to stand up for Rachel, as if I had bullied her.
"You are right, it's not necessary."
I spoke coldly and walked past him to leave.
Dixon could not help but be taken aback by my strangely cold attitude.
This was the first time that I had been so cold to him as a simp.
He was stunned for two seconds, caught up with me, and explained in a low voice, "Rachel has always been in poor health. I can't ignore her illness. Does your parents have a problem with me? I can explain it to them."
For so many days, even if Dixon cared about me just a little, he should have noticed that something was wrong and my parents were dead, but he didn't.
I shook off his hand and said coldly, "No need."
Dixon frowned slightly, then took out his phone and ordered, "Zayn, find the most authoritative medical team in the country to treat Janet's father immediately. Also, prepare a new wedding ceremony for me."
Then, he looked at me. "Are you satisfied now?"
He felt that he had done a good job.
Indeed, for Dixon, who had always been arrogant, this was already a compromise.
In the past, I would have been so flattered.
But now, my heart was as still as water
"I said there's no need."
I did not want to waste my time arguing with Dixon. After saying that, I strode away.
"Stop right there!
Before I could take a step, I heard Rachel's voice from behind.
She pulled Dixon in front of me and sized me up suspiciously. "Dixon, she used to be very concerned about her father's illness, but today, she doesn't even need your help and wants to leave in such a hurry with a bag on her back. I think she's just feeling guilty. Maybe what's in her bag is stolen from your house. You can't just let her run away like this."
Rachel acted as if she had seen me stealing with her own eyes.
My eyes became slightly glazed over. I looked at Dixon and asked coldly, "Do you think so, Dixon?"
Dixon lowered his eyes and avoided my gaze.
Sometimes silence was an answer.
I had been dating Dixon for seven years. Even if he had not been sincere to me, he should at least know what kind of person I was. But now, when I was accused of being a thief, he chose to acquiesce.
My heart, which had been dead for a long time, ached faintly at this moment.
My seven years of love and sacrifice had really been fed to a dog.
Linda continued, "Janet, don't pretend to be so disappointed. You think I don't know? Your whole family is from the countryside, especially your parents. They've never seen the city in their whole lives. They're so poor and pathetic. When they saw that Dixon didn't complete the wedding with you, they must think that they were going to lose their wealthy son-in-law, so they asked you to steal some property for them."
"I can see through the despicable thoughts of poor people like you at a glance!"
The more she spoke, the more excited she became, and her eyes lit up with the excitement of seeing through the truth.
Slap!
I slapped her hard across the face!
"You can say anything about me, but don't mention my parents!"
Chapter 3
I snapped her, and my anger was boiling in my heart.
My parents had been kind and simple their whole lives and had never done anything wrong. In our village, they were famous for being good people. Not to mention coveting Dixon's things, even if my father was on the verge of death, they had never thought of troubling him.
My parents-in-law had passed away with regret at this wedding. I would never allow Rachel to slander them again.
"Janet, what are you doing?!" Dixon's eyes were cold as he glared at me in displeasure.
When my parents and I were slandered, Dixon did not say a word. As soon as Rachel was wronged, he immediately came forward to scold me.
This was the man I had loved for seven years.
"Dixon, look! I must have hit the nail on the head."
Rachel covered her face angrily and glared at me. Then, she looked at Dixon and said coquettishly, "Dixon, my face hurts..."
Dixon's heart ached as he looked at Rachel's face. Then, he ordered me with a gloomy expression, "Janet, apologize!"
"Don't even think about it!"
I retorted without hesitation, my tone was resolute.
Dixon's eyes were cold. "Janet, don't make me angry."
In the past, I would do whatever Dixon asked me to do.
That was because I loved him and cared about him.
But now, there was nothing left for me to care about.
At this time, Rachel suddenly said angrily, "I don't need her apology. No one dared to hit me since I was a child. Dixon, I want her to pay me back double!"
Dixon glanced at me when he heard that and tried to signal me with his eyes to admit defeat.
I looked up at him, and my eyes was full of stubbornness.
Dixon saw that I was stubborn and wanted to teach me a lesson.
He signaled with his eyes, and two bodyguards immediately stepped forward and grabbed my hands, turning me into a lamb to be slaughtered.
Seeing this, Rachel smiled smugly. Without saying a word, she slapped me hard in the face twice.
In an instant, my cheeks turned red and hot, and blood oozed from the corner of my mouth.
However, Dixon continued to stand by and watch it coldly. "She's not feeling well because of illness. You shouldn't have bullied her."
My face did hurt, but my heart hurt even more.
When we first started dating, Dixon had told me that I was his woman and that he would protect me and not let anyone hurt me.
But now, in order to protect another woman, he let me be beaten this hard.
I suddenly burst out laughing.
And my laugh was so desperate.
Rachel was still angry after hitting me. She stared at my backpack with disdain.
"I'd like to see what you've stolen and hidden in your backpack!"
As she spoke, she reached out to pull my bag.
My parents' urns were in my bag. I would never allow Rachel to be disrespectful to them.
"Stop! Do not touch my bag!"
I began to resist violently and berated Rachel angrily.
"You are so resistant. It seems that you've stolen a lot of good things!"
Seeing that I was overreacting, Rachel became even more excited. She tried to pull the backpack off me with both hands.
