Chapter 2

I thought Jessica would be quiet after being scolded by David.

But unexpectedly, she still didn't give up and continued to say something mean.

Jessica looked at Emily and said to David, "The person your girlfriend brought with her really loves to meddle in your business. Be careful that she may ruin your relationship."

Hearing Jessica's words, David immediately said seriously, "What are you talking about? Don't say that. I will listen to Emma. Even if Emma wants to break up, I will shamelessly beg her not to leave me."

David's eyes turned red as he spoke.

After being together for so long, I knew that David had never been able to accept the idea that we might break up, even if it was just a joke.

The last time I asked David this, he just looked at me and started crying. He hugged me tightly and begged me not to break up with him.

I had to hold him in my arms and comfort him for a long time. I even had wild sex with him to divert his attention.

Seeing David defending me so much, Jessica still didn't give up her evil intentions.

After all the dishes were served, David kept putting my favorite dishes on my plate.

There was no more space on my plate.

Jessica looked at David picking food for me and felt envious.

She continued to say, "David, aren't you and Emma too lovey-dovey? Don't you feel like you have no freedom at home? Women can be troublesome."

Jessica said this as if she was not a woman.

Jessica was acting up throughout the entire meal. Everyone else at the table was getting a little impatient.

David looked at Jessica and said, "I wish Emma would cling to me every day. Someone like you, who hasn't been in a relationship, wouldn't understand. Also, can't you learn to respect woman? If my girlfriend isn't clingy to me, is she supposed to cling to you instead?"

Speaking of this, David looked at Jessica dangerously. "You don't have a crush on Emma, do you?"

Initially, I felt pleased listening to David scold Jessica. But when I heard his last sentence, I really couldn't help but cover my face.

I thought, "David really thinks that I deserve everyone's love. He's so cute."

Jessica was stunned by David's retort. She finally decided to shut up temporarily.

But she didn't keep quiet for long.

The restaurant David chose was delicious. We used to eat here often.

While everyone else was busy eating, Jessica stood out in contrast.

Jessica poked at her food with a fork, but she didn't eat any.

Someone asked Jessica why she hadn't eaten yet.

Jessica said with a look of regret, "Well, I have gained weight recently. I am now 99 pounds. I need to go on a diet to lose weight."

Then Jessica turned her attention to me again. She pretended to be envious and said, "I really envy you, Emma. You eat so much and David doesn't despise you. When can I find a boyfriend like David?"

I put down my fork and readied to say something. But David reacted first.

David looked at me nervously and said, "Emma, don't try to lose weight anymore. I've learned cooking for you. Now you're just perfect. Someone like her really does need to lose weight."

David looked at Jessica. "Didn't your family teach you not to mess around with the food on the plate when you're eating with others?"

Jessica looked unconvinced and repeated loudly. "I am now 99 pounds."

Her voice was loud as if she was afraid people wouldn't hear that she weighed 99 pounds.

But David just nodded perfunctorily. "I know you weigh 99 pounds. If you want to lose weight quickly, stop talking. Talking won't help you lose weight."

"But I weigh 99 pounds." Jessica kept repeating it and insisted that she was not hungry.

Suddenly, her stomach growled loudly.

All of a sudden, everyone's eyes were on Jessica.

I looked at her with a smile. "Your stomach is growling so loudly. Aren't you hungry yet?"

Jessica's face turned red. She stood up suddenly and said, "I'm going to the bathroom."

Then, she left and never came back.

I guessed she was too embarrassed to come back.

Chapter 3

After five years of dating, David and I were about to get married.

In fact, we planned to get married earlier. David said we would get married after graduating from college. But unexpectedly, we both pursued graduate studies and ended up in different places.

On the day David found out about his admission results, he cried for a long time. His eyes swelled like bruised peaches.

He hugged me and cried, "If I have known the result, I would have tried harder. You're going so far away. What if you meet someone else and don't want me anymore?"

The panic in his eyes was not fake.

I comforted him for a long time and assured him that I would never look at another man. Finally, he stopped crying.

Now that we had completed our studies and had stable jobs, David couldn't wait to put the wedding on the agenda.

The two families got together to discuss wedding matters. When they came to discuss the wedding gift, David spoke first before my parents could say anything.

He said, "Don't worry. I have transferred my two houses to Emma. The car is registered in Emma's name. I also gave my salary card to Emma. I saved up the wedding gift five years ago. It should be worth one million dollars now. You don't have to worry about it. My family's tradition is that men cook and women enjoy lives. When I marry Emma, I will cook for her. Emma will be happy with me."

David was eager to prove himself. He feared that my parents would not agree to the marriage.

I held my forehead helplessly and couldn't help but want to see the expressions of David's parents, Joseph and Hannah.

Then I saw Joseph and Hannah smile proudly as if to say, "David is really sensible. We raised a good kid."

I almost forgot that David inherited the romantic gene from his parents.

My parents were already very satisfied with David. Now, they were embarrassed by David's honesty.

My mother told David, "If Emma bullies you after marriage, I will support you."

The wedding gift issue, which used to be a challenge for most young couples about to get married, was solved in one go.

David couldn't wait to announce the good news in his Twitter that night.

In an instant, he received many blessings, but there were also some dissenting voices.

My phone was charging. So, I used David's phone for now.

I trusted David very much. He never hid anything from me.

David even wanted me to check his phone 24 hours a day.

But the only thing he disagreed with was that I used his phone to watch videos of sexy men.

In order to make me watch them less, he took time out every day to exercise and prove to me that he had a better body than the men in the videos.

But I still liked to watch those videos. Their figures were really impressive.

As I secretly watched sexy men on David's phone, several messages popped up in quick succession.

Someone sent messages: [Your girlfriend is so materialistic. How can she accept such a valuable wedding gift?]

[Does she have any shame?]

[Are Emma's parents selling their daughter? Don't they consider if Emma is worth that price?]

[If it were me getting married, I definitely wouldn't accept a wedding gift from my boyfriend. This outdated custom should be abolished.]

[Bro, I really feel sorry for you.]

I glanced at the sender.

It was Jessica.
