Chapter 1
The doctor asked me to see my mother-in-law one last time...
I had a mental breakdown and called my husband Frank Cooper more than ten times before he answered.
"Mom had a car accident. Come back quickly..."
But before I could finish, he shouted angrily, "Don't make trouble on purpose. I am at Geoge Hospital. Cecilia has severe allergies. I will go home when I'm done!"
After saying that, he immediately hung up the phone and then blocked me.
But I treated my mother-in-law like my own mother. I couldn't just ignore this.
Besides, if she hadn't gone after Frank for me and the baby in her belly, she wouldn't have been hit by a car.
Luckily, we were in the same hospital.
Time waited for no one and I had no other choice.
I begged the nurse to tell me where Cecilia was and ran along at a heavy pace.
Seeing their affectionate actions, I thought they were a couple.
I didn't have time to care about that and walked towards them quickly.
When Frank saw me, his face immediately turned gloomy.
"Bonnie Moore, you've gone too far. Did you put a tracker on me?"
He scolded me with his eyes full of disgust, as if I were the shame.
I didn't dare to delay and was blunt, "Mom had a car accident and is in critical condition. Come with me quickly!"
I reached out to pull Frank, but he pushed me away with disgust on his face.
"You've gone to great lengths to compete for favor, even my mom became a part of your game!"
He was certain that I was lying to him.
I was overwhelmed with mixed feelings and explained to him hysterically.
"It's all because you came to find Cecilia that mom rushed out and had a car accident!"
"She's in critical condition now. You can go upstairs and see for yourself if you don't believe me!"
Frank frowned and he said disdainfully.
"You came to make a scene just because I went to find Cecilia!"
Before I could explain, Cecilia pretended to be innocent, "Bonnie, I am really sick. There's nothing between Frank and I. You don't have to be suspicious and play dirty tricks."
"How can you curse your mother-in-law? You are so vicious!"
After Cecilia finished speaking, she started crying.
I was so angry that I shouted at her, "Shut up!"
Frank immediately turned to hug her and stared at me fiercely.
"Bonnie, that's enough. Cecilia is already sick, and you're still yelling at her. When did you become so cruel?"
I suppressed the pain in my heart and looked up at him, saying, "I'm not lying. Cecilia is on a drip now. Why don't you go up with me to see your mom?"
"That's your mother!"
I was anxious but I said sincerely, "Mom asked me to bring you to her! I beg you to go with me, okay?"
Frank hesitated as he looked at me.
"Frank, my face is so itchy. Can you help me take a look?"
Thinking of my mother-in-law's kindness towards me, I knelt down to Frank regardless of scruples and pleaded again.
"I'm not lying. Mom raised you with great hardship. Are you really going to be so heartless?"
Seeing me like this, Cecilia looked around awkwardly and said with disgust on her face, "Bonnie, you are so exaggerated. Car accident? Kneel down? Are you the most filial person in the world?"
"Forget it, Frank, follow her. I don't think she will give up easily today!"
She made concessions in order to gain advantages, which made Frank feel sorry for her.
He pushed me to the ground coldly, saying, "That's enough! Get out! Mom treats you so well but you curse her like that. You are so scheming."
"You urged my mom to bother me every day and even said you're pregnant! Even if you die, I won't leave Cecilia now!"
My heart was like sinking to the bottom in an instant, badly hurt.
He didn't believe that mom had a car accident, nor did he believe that I was pregnant!
After he was forced to give up Cecilia back then, I could never win her.
Unfortunately, I realized it too late.
Everything was too late!
Chapter 2
At this time, the doctor called.
He said my mother-in-law's condition was deteriorating and she was dying, so he asked me to see her for the last time.
My body shivered and I got up.
I rushed to my mother-in-law desperately.
She weakly opened her eyes, hoping to see her son.
But Frank was not here.
"Frank... Why didn't he come?"
Seeing my mother-in-law was about to die, my throat was choked. My chest hurt so much that I couldn't breathe. I knelt in front of her with tears streaming down my face, "Mom, I'm sorry. I'm useless! He didn't believe me..."
Before my mother-in-law took her last breath, she said, "Get a divorce!"
And then she gradually stopped breathing.
I wailed in despair and I was so heartbroken.
My father used to be the driver for the Cooper family.
The Cooper family had a son.
Since I could remember, they warned me not to dream about things that I shouldn't think about.
He was not a man I could dream of.
But in an accident that year, my father lost his life to save Frank's father.
Before my father died, he entrusted me to the Cooper family. Out of guilt, the Cooper family promised to let me in and protect me.
That night, the unapproachable man actually broke into my room while drunk.
Since then, I became his wife.
I thought he proposed to me because he also liked me a little bit.
But it turned out that this marriage was the result of his enduring humiliation for the Cooper family.
In front of others, he was the moral and noble Mr. Cooper who loved his wife.
Behind others, he was a heartless man who only loved Cecilia.
No matter when and where, Cecilia could call Frank away from me with just a phone call.
For many years, I endured it, foolishly thinking that one day I could warm his heart.
But fortunately, my mother-in-law treated me well.
Since I married into the Cooper family, she had given me countless love which made up for the maternal love I have lacked since childhood!
She also intervened between us multiple times to keep our broken marriage going.
But now, she was dead and I had lost the only attachment to the Cooper family.
I called Frank again but his phone was turned off.
Since even the closest person couldn't compare to Cecilia, it didn't matter whether he came to see her or not!
I was so frustrated and I spent two days dealing with my mother-in-law's affairs alone.
The hospital staff looked at me with a hint of sympathy.
My heart was in pain, and I couldn't understand why my mother-in-law, who had always been kind and generous, could give birth to such a heartless and cruel person like Frank.
What did she do wrong?
Her own son turned her daughter-in-law's birthday to her death anniversary.
I was already exhausted when I got home.
I sat in the living room, looking at my mother-in-law's portrait and ashes, and tears streamed down my face.
I really couldn't accept her sudden departure.
I couldn't forgive what Frank had done.
He hadn't shown up for three whole days.
He seemed to have forgotten this crumbling home.
As he wished, I calmly sent him the divorce agreement but I didn't expect Frank to come back so quickly.
"Bonnie, what are you doing? Don't act recklessly."
"Do you know that Cecilia stayed in the hospital for two days? I just stayed with her for two days and you want to divorce me?"
After saying that, he turned around and shouted naturally, "Mom, don't listen to Bonnie all day. She's just jealous. I..."
Frank suddenly stopped as his pupils contracted. He stared at the portrait and urn of his mother and asked, "What is this?"
Chapter 3
"Mom is already dead! Can't you see that?"
Frank quickly came to me, pinched my neck, and gritted his teeth, saying, "What trick is this? Do you want me to apologize and force me to surrender?"
"I told you your mother is dead! On the day she died, you were with your beloved Cecilia!"
I was furious when I thought of what Frank did.
I hated him!
The sound of slapping rang out.
Frank slapped me hard in the face. He used so much strength that I could hardly resist.
This slap made my already broken heartache again.
I looked at Frank with red eyes in disbelief.
"It was you who killed your mother. You are the culprit. How dare you slap me?"
Frank's eyes were fierce.
"Bonnie, if it weren't for my mother, you wouldn't even be able to enter the Cooper family. Now you curse her again and again. Are you heartless?"
"You even made a portrait of my mother. You went to great lengths to make my mother cooperate with you in this play. What is your purpose?"
"Isn't it just to prevent me from having contact with Cecilia?"
"I'm telling you. It's absolutely impossible!"
He angrily told me that not only would he not let me have my way, but he would also treat Cecilia better from now on!
"Then I wish you a happy ending in advance..."
"Sign the divorce papers!"
Frank stood up suddenly like a cat with its tail stepped on, his eyes turning red.
"I didn't expect you to be so heartless that you keep talking about divorce. Have you ever considered Mom's feelings?"
"Do you have to make her angry to death to make yourself happy?"
"Mom's last wish is for us to divorce!"
Frank snorted coldly, his eyes seeming to want to cut me into pieces.
"You can divorce, but stop acting and send my mom back!"
After saying that, he slammed the door and left.
I left that house with my mother-in-law's ashes and moved into my old house.
But I didn't expect to wait in line for two days to buy a cemetery.
Finally, the day of burial arrived. As soon as I opened the door, I was kicked to the ground by the people outside.
The ashes in my hand almost slipped.
I looked up and met Frank's angry gaze.
Cecilia stood far behind with a weird smile on her face.
Without waiting for me to react, Frank stepped over my body and entered the house.
He shouted angrily, "Mom!"
He kicked open every door, but didn't see his mother.
His patience was quickly exhausted. He walked quickly to me, squatting down and grabbing my collar, then asked angrily, "Where is my mom? Let her out. Where did you hide her?"
Looking at his twisted face in anger, I couldn't help but burst into laughter.
As long as he called the hospital, or let the assistant check it out, everything would be clear.
But he didn't!
