Chapter 1 of My Alphas Rejected Our Pups

The cold porcelain of the bathroom floor pressed against my knees as I retched into the toilet for the third time this morning. My hands trembled as I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, tasting the bitter remnants of bile.

The pregnancy test lay on the counter like a ticking bomb, its two pink lines staring back at me with cruel certainty. Two lines. Positive. Pregnant.

I sank back against the bathroom wall, my heart hammering against my ribs. Three weeks. It had been three weeks since my eighteenth birthday, since everything changed. Since that night at Sterling's lake house that I couldn't stop replaying in my mind, no matter how hard I tried.

The memory hit me like a physical blow, dragging me back to that evening when the world still made sense.

*Three weeks earlier*

"Harper! Close your eyes!" Ryker's voice had echoed through the trees as I approached Sterling's family lake house, nestled deep in the Crescent Ridge mountains. The golden-brown haired Alpha bounced on his feet with barely contained excitement, his mischievous grin infectious even in the fading daylight.

"What are you three up to?" I laughed, but obediently covered my eyes with my hands. Strong, familiar hands guided me forward—Sterling's gentle touch, I realized, recognizing the careful way he steered me around what felt like furniture.

"Trust us," came Axel's deep voice from somewhere to my left. Even without seeing him, I could picture his gray eyes watching me with that intense focus he was known for, his dark hair probably falling across his forehead the way it always did when he concentrated.

"Okay, open them!" Ryker practically shouted.

I dropped my hands and gasped. The lake house's main room had been transformed into something magical. String lights draped across the wooden beams, casting warm golden pools of light across handmade decorations. A small cake sat on the coffee table, eighteen candles flickering in the gentle breeze from the open windows.

"Happy birthday, Harper," Sterling said softly, his green eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. His sandy hair caught the candlelight, making him look almost ethereal in the warm glow.

"You guys..." My throat tightened with emotion. "You didn't have to do all this."

"Of course we did," Axel said, stepping closer. "You're eighteen now. That's important."

The weight of his words settled over me. Eighteen meant I was officially an adult in pack law. It also meant my first heat cycle would come soon, something every Omega dreaded without a bonded mate.

"Presents first!" Ryker declared, shoving a wrapped box into my hands. "Mine first because I'm the most impatient."

I unwrapped his gift carefully, revealing a delicate silver bracelet with a moonstone centerpiece that seemed to glow with its own inner light. "Ryker, this is beautiful."

"It's supposed to help with... you know, Omega stuff," he said, suddenly bashful. "The old pack healer said moonstones have protective properties."

Sterling's gift came next—a leather-bound journal with my name embossed on the cover in elegant script. When I opened it, I found the first page filled with his careful handwriting: *For all the thoughts and dreams you're brave enough to write down. —S*

"I thought you might want somewhere private to write," he explained, his cheeks flushing slightly.

Axel's gift was last, and when I unwrapped the small box, my breath caught. Inside lay a silver pendant shaped like a wolf's fang, hanging from a delicate chain.

"It's from my family's collection," Axel said quietly. "It's supposed to offer protection to those who wear it."

The three gifts felt like more than birthday presents—they felt like promises, like pieces of their hearts wrapped in silver and leather and stone.

"Thank you," I whispered, overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness. "All of you. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"You'll never have to find out," Sterling said firmly, and something in his tone made my heart skip.

Ryker produced a bottle of whiskey from somewhere, grinning wickedly. "Now for the real celebration."

The alcohol burned going down, but it warmed me from the inside out. We sat around the fireplace, sharing stories and laughing until my sides ached. But as the night wore on and the whiskey loosened our tongues, the conversation took a more serious turn.

"Your heat's going to come soon," Ryker said suddenly, his usual playfulness replaced by concern. "Within the next few months, probably."

I felt my face burn with embarrassment. "Ryker—"

"No, he's right to bring it up," Axel interrupted, his gray eyes serious. "Without a mate, it's going to be... difficult. Painful."

Sterling leaned forward, his green eyes intense. "We've been thinking about it, Harper. We don't want you to suffer through that alone."

"What are you saying?" I asked, though something deep in my chest already knew.

"We're saying we could help you," Ryker said softly. "As your friends. We care about you too much to let you go through that kind of pain."

The room felt charged with electricity, the air thick with unspoken possibilities. The whiskey had lowered my inhibitions, and the way they were all looking at me—protective, caring, but with something deeper burning in their eyes—made my heart race.

"All of you?" I whispered.

"If that's what you want," Axel said, his voice rough. "We'd never pressure you, Harper. But if you're willing..."

I looked at each of them in turn—Ryker with his golden eyes full of mischief and affection, Sterling with his gentle strength and unwavering loyalty, Axel with his quiet intensity and fierce protectiveness. These three Alphas had been my anchor in a pack that saw me as nothing more than a weak Omega. They'd defended me, supported me, made me feel valued when everyone else made me feel worthless.

Trust and alcohol and something deeper—something I'd been trying not to name—made my decision for me.

"Yes," I breathed.

What followed was a blur of gentle hands and whispered reassurances, of being cherished and claimed by the three people who mattered most to me in the world. They were careful with me, reverent almost, as if I were something precious they were afraid to break.

But when I woke the next morning, I was alone.

The lake house felt hollow without their presence. Sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating the remnants of our celebration—empty whiskey bottle, scattered wrapping paper, the dying embers in the fireplace. On the coffee table, a note written in Axel's precise handwriting: *Don't tell anyone about last night.*

That was it. No explanation, no tender goodbye, no promise to talk about what had happened between us. Just a cold dismissal that made my chest ache with something worse than physical pain.

*Present day*

I stared down at the pregnancy test again, those two pink lines blurring through my tears. I'd convinced myself over the past three weeks that the night had meant something to them, that maybe we could figure out what came next together.

Now I had to tell them. I had to face all three of them and explain that their one night of "helping a friend" had consequences they hadn't anticipated.

I found them at the pack's community hall, their voices carrying through the partially open door as I approached. My hand was raised to knock when Axel's words stopped me cold.

"If that Omega says she's carrying one of our pups, we handle it quickly," his voice was ice-cold, completely different from the gentle tone he'd used with me that night. "We can't let some desperate Omega ruin our futures."

The pregnancy test slipped from my numb fingers, clattering to the floor as my world collapsed around me.
