My Alpha Used Me as His Luna Battery Summary

I should have recognized the warning signs when Dillon refused to look me in the eye. Instead of treating me like a patient he wanted to save, he coldly slid the medication schedule across his desk. My instructions were clear: deliver the file directly to Cole's private quarters before noon, completely bypassing Marcus. I accepted the folder without a word, stepping into a high-stakes encounter with the Alpha that would change everything.

Chapter 1 of My Alpha Used Me as His Luna Battery

I should have known by the way Dillon handed me the folder.

He didn't look at me. He never looked at me anymore — not directly, not the way a healer looks at a patient he's trying to keep alive. He slid the medication schedule across the desk with two fingers, like he was passing a note under a door, and told me Cole needed it delivered to his private quarters before noon.

His private quarters. Not the medical office. Not through Marcus. To Cole himself, personally.

I took the folder. I didn't ask why.

That's the thing about being the fated mate of an Alpha who has stopped pretending to love you — you learn very quickly which questions are worth the energy and which ones just confirm what you already know.

I already knew.

I'd known for months. Maybe longer, if I was honest with myself in the dark hours when my wolf was too tired to argue. I'd felt the distance in the bond like a slow bleed — not a clean wound but the kind that seeps, the kind you keep pressing a hand against and telling yourself it's fine, it's slowing, it's not as bad as it looks.

I carried the folder up to the Alpha wing. My footsteps were quiet on the hardwood. The hallway smelled of cedar and cold morning light, and underneath that, something floral and wrong — a perfume I recognized but had no right to recognize this deep in the pack house.

The door to Cole's private quarters was open two inches.

I pushed it open the rest of the way.

They were standing by the window. Cole's hands were at Gia's waist, and her head was tipped back against his shoulder, and she was laughing at something low he'd said into her hair. She was wearing a dark blouse I'd never seen before, and at her throat — catching the light with the particular cruelty of something that knows exactly what it's doing — was the Luna pendant.

Amani's pendant. The one that had been in the Vance family for three generations. The one I had been told, quietly and more than once, would be mine when the time was right.

Gia was wearing it like she'd been born with it on.

I stood in the doorway for exactly long enough to understand what I was looking at. Then I walked in.

I set the folder on Cole's desk. Neat. Precise. I smoothed the edge of it with two fingers the way Dillon had smoothed it handing it to me, and I thought: this is the last errand I will ever run for this pack.

Cole turned. He didn't startle. He didn't let go of her.

Gia looked at me over his shoulder with an expression of perfect, practiced serenity. Not triumph — she was too smart for triumph. Just calm. The calm of someone who has already won and is simply waiting for the paperwork to catch up.

I reached into the pocket of my jacket and took out the folded documents I had been carrying for three weeks. I'd written them myself, had them witnessed by two Omegas who owed me nothing and gave me their signatures anyway because even they understood what was happening. I set them on top of the medication folder and smoothed that edge too.

"Sign them," I said. "Let me go."

Cole looked at the papers. He didn't pick them up.

"Leah." His voice was flat. Not unkind, which was somehow worse. "Close the door."

I left it open.

Something moved in his jaw. "The pack needs stability right now. Gia is—"

"I know what Gia is." My voice came out quieter than I intended, which was fine. Quiet was the only register I had left that didn't shake. "Sign the papers, Cole. You don't want me here. I'm not asking you to explain why. I'm asking you to let me leave."

He looked at me then. Really looked, for the first time in months, and I watched something pass through his face that I couldn't name — not guilt, not exactly, but the ghost of the boy who had once fought his way into a strange pack with bloody knuckles and nothing but my name in his chest.

That boy was gone. What was left was an Alpha who had made his calculations and was comfortable with the math.

"You are not leaving this pack." The Alpha tone dropped into his voice like a stone into still water, and I felt it hit my wolf like a physical blow — that pressure behind the sternum, that sudden inability to move, to breathe against it. "You will not file these papers. You will not speak of this arrangement to anyone. Gia carries my heir. The pack requires a Luna who can stand beside me. Your bond sustains my authority. That is the arrangement."

He said it the way you explain something to someone who has failed to understand a simple fact.

My wolf made a sound deep in my chest. Small. Exhausted. Then she went quiet.

I picked up the rejection papers from the desk. I folded them back along their creases. I put them in my pocket.

I did not look at Gia again.

I walked out. I left the door open behind me.

---

Three days later, Cole stood at the front of the great hall and introduced Gia to the assembled Ironcliff Pack as his chosen mate and Luna.

Amani sat in the front row with her hands folded in her lap and an expression of undisguised relief.

I stood at the back, between two Omegas who shifted to make room for me without being asked. Around me, pack members who had once dipped their heads when I walked past stared straight ahead at the dais, at Cole, at Gia in the Luna pendant, at anything that wasn't me.

I watched the whole thing. I didn't look away.

That night, someone moved my belongings from the Alpha wing to a room near the healer's ward. My meals appeared in the Omega rotation. My name was removed from the training schedule and the council calendar without announcement or explanation.

I unlocked the drawer beside my new bed and put the rejection papers inside.

I pressed my fingertips, without thinking, to the bare skin at the side of my neck — the place where a mate mark had never been made — and held them there until my hand stopped trembling.

Then I lay down. I faced the window.

I waited.
