Mr. CEO We're Done!
Vivian sacrificed everything for the sake of her marriage with Syrus. She left her work and family to put up with his toxic mother all in the name of preserving their wedding. Yet that didn't stop Syrus from having an affair, what's worse? He wasn't afraid to show it. Having had enough, Vivian asked for a divorce determined to kick-start her life and chase her dreams. If only her ex-husband and his family would just leave her in peace.
I Served Him A Divorce!
Vivian's Pov
"Bullshit!" I cursed from the bottom of my chest as I watched the TV.
The news channel headlined "Top actress and supermodel Goergia see linking arms with CEO of Vale Tech - Syrus Vale."
I threw the coffee mug I was holding shattering the television. I had seen these reports before, but this one hurt more.
That good for nothing husband promised to come home for my birthday, yet here he was, not just late, but fooling around with another woman, not just any woman but his ex-fiance to boot.
I was the one who married him in the end, but it never felt like Syrus left her behind.
I looked at the dinner table, still set with candles and the meal I spent hours making.
The cake I baked sat there, untouched, its frosting melting. My hand shook as I picked up my phone and saw a message. It was a photo from Georgia.
She rested her head on Syrus’s shoulder while he smiled, a smile I hadn’t seen in years.
My breath caught in my throat. I felt stupid for holding onto hope. My friends had warned me before I married Syrus, saying his heart was still with Georgia. But I thought I could change that. I gave up my comfortable life and my family’s support, all for him. Now, I realized I’d given up my pride too.
Without thinking, I typed: “I saw the photos. I want a divorce.”
I hesitated for only a second before sending it. Almost right away, Syrus called me, but I ignored it. The weight on my chest lifted a little, but the pain stayed. When the phone rang again, I answered, trying to stay calm.
“What are you doing?” Syrus snapped on the other end. “You’re going to cause a scene over this? I told you I had business with Georgia. I know it’s your birthday, but you need to grow up. Not everything is about you.”
My stomach twisted. “I’m not causing a scene, Syrus. I’m telling you it’s over. I’ll have the papers ready tomorrow. And if you don’t show up, I’ll let everyone know about your affair with Georgia.”
His voice turned cold. “You wouldn’t dare.”
I hung up without saying another word. I stood up, walked to the table, and started clearing away the untouched dinner. There was no point in keeping anything. The house felt empty, just like our marriage. Three years of trying to win his love, of trying to prove I was enough, and it was all for nothing.
I had hoped that by being patient, by loving him enough, Syrus would eventually turn to me. But now I saw that I was fooling myself. The more I gave, the more he took, leaving me with nothing.
I walked through the mansion, my footsteps echoing in the empty rooms. I had tried to make this house a home, but Syrus was never there, always finding reasons to be away. I had built my hopes on something that crumbled beneath my feet.
The next morning, I woke up early and packed my things. As I looked in the mirror, my eyes red from lack of sleep, I wondered how I let myself fall this far. I covered my tired face with makeup and ignored the missed calls from Syrus.
My phone buzzed again. This time, it was Syrus’s mother. My jaw tightened as I picked it up.
“Where are you? You were supposed to be here hours ago! Do you enjoy making our family look bad? You were never right for my son. I warned him about you, but he didn’t listen. Now look at the mess you’ve caused. It’s about time this marriage ended.”
I listened to her harsh words. I had heard it all before. For three years, I blamed myself for how they treated me, believing I wasn’t good enough. I swallowed my pride, followed every demand, and played the role of the perfect wife. But those days were over.
“You’re right,” I said calmly. “I’ve decided to divorce your son.” I ended the call before she could say more.
After gathering my papers and belongings, I left the house. Before heading to the courthouse, I sent Syrus a message: “Meet me in two hours to sign the divorce papers. If you don’t, I’ll release proof of your affair with Georgia.”
I knew he would come. He wouldn’t risk Georgia’s reputation. Sure enough, Syrus showed up at the courthouse an hour later, looking angry. He walked up to me, clearly not used to being challenged. I didn’t back down.
“Do you have the paperwork?” I asked, keeping my voice steady.
His eyes narrowed. “Do you really need to make this public? I told you—no one can replace you as my wife. But there are things I can’t give you. Things you need to accept if you want to stay in this marriage.”
His dismissive tone would have crushed me before, but not anymore. “I’m not interested in your excuses,” I said coldly. “If we don’t finish this divorce today, I’ll make sure everyone knows about Georgia.”
He scoffed, like he didn’t believe me. I pulled a stack of photos from my bag. His eyes widened as he flipped through them. Every photo showed him and Georgia together, in secret moments, kissing, holding hands. If these got out, Georgia’s career would be ruined.
“Where did you get these?” he growled.
“Does it matter? What matters is what’s in them.”
“Yes, it does,” he yelled.
“And why should that bother me?”
“You b*tch!”
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine as long as you sign the papers.”
He stayed quiet as I turned and walked into the office. A few minutes later, Syrus followed, still silent. I handed him the papers, already signed by me. He glared at me before signing them, sealing the end of our marriage.
“You’ll come crawling back,” he muttered as he gave the papers back. “You’re throwing everything away for nothing.”
For the first time in years, I smiled. A real smile.
“I don’t need your money or your name. I never did.”
“We’ll see about that.”
“I’d wish you luck, but you’re the worst man I’ve ever known. Goodbye and good riddance.”
Syrus glared at me, but my words hit him hard. He always thought I’d put up with his cheating forever.
He was wrong.
No Longer Their Bidding
Vivian's Pov
I didn’t take a single penny from the divorce settlement. Syrus scoffed as I walked away, probably thinking I was foolish for leaving behind the wealth and status his name came with. What he never understood was that I had never touched the money he gave me. I had supported myself all these years, refusing to depend on him for anything.
When I returned to the mansion to collect the last of my things, I heard laughter from the living room. I paused, recognizing the voices of my mother-in-law, Nancy and Georgia.
“She said she’s divorcing my son! As if that greedy woman would ever walk away from this family’s wealth,” my mother-in-law cackled.
“It’s a shame,” Georgia added, her voice dripping with fake sympathy. “If things had been different, I might have been your daughter-in-law instead.”
“Oh, don’t say that, dear. Vivian and Syrus were never a good match. You two would have been perfect together.”
I pushed open the front door, and the two women on the couch went silent. A bitter laugh escaped me as I walked into the grand mansion. I had spent three years working hard for this house, but now it would be enjoyed by people who never cared about me.
"So, you’re back," Nancy snapped. "Where have you been? I told you to be here by 8 AM to help with preparations. Or did you think you could go find someone better after divorcing my son? Don’t kid yourself. A social climber like you will always be beneath us. Now get to the kitchen and start cooking. If you embarrass me today, I’ll make sure you regret it."
I looked around the house, taking in the familiar scene. Every time there was an event, I was expected to cook for all the guests. No servants were allowed to help. It was her way of reminding me I was never truly part of this family.
Before I could respond, Georgia spoke up, flashing a saccharine smile. "Auntie, isn’t that too much work for Vivian to handle alone? Let me help. I wouldn’t want your guests thinking I’m useless in the kitchen!"
Nancy immediately grabbed Georgia’s arm and pulled her back onto the couch. "You? Help her? Don’t be ridiculous. She was born for these tasks. But you, Georgia—you’re a star! You deserve to relax and be treated like the treasure you are."
"But Auntie, I feel bad sitting here while she works," Georgia said with fake modesty.
"Don’t worry," my mother-in-law said, grinning. "Soon, she’ll be out of our lives for good, and you’ll take her place. Then she won’t even be a guest here, just a stranger on the street."
I clenched my fists, the thinly veiled insults and false concern grating on my nerves. I had tolerated their behavior for too long, and now I was done.
"Are you two finished with your little performance?" I asked, my voice calm but firm.
My mother-in-law’s eyes narrowed. "How dare you interrupt! Get to the kitchen, now!"
I crossed my arms. "In case you forgot, your son and I are already divorced. You can stop pretending I’m still part of this family. If you want someone to cook for your guests, maybe your future daughter-in-law should start showing off her skills."
Georgia’s smile faltered, but my mother-in-law just sneered. "You think you can just walk away? My son will never let you leave without paying the price."
I ignored her, turning toward the hallway to gather my belongings. I had no reason to stay in this house a moment longer. As I reached the bedroom, my mother-in-law blocked my path.
"So, you really think you can end this marriage so easily?"
I glanced at her. "It’s already done. What more do you want?"
I stepped past her and opened the door, only to find Syrus standing in the hallway. He looked furious, his eyes immediately going to Georgia.
"Are you alright?" he asked Georgia, completely ignoring me.
I didn’t even have time to move before Syrus shoved me out of the way. I stumbled, slamming into the corner of a cabinet. The pain shot through me, but it was nothing compared to the sting of watching Syrus fuss over Georgia while I stood there, bruised and forgotten.
"What’s your problem now?" Syrus demanded, turning his anger on me. "What did you do this time?"
My blood boiled. "Me? You pushed me! And now you’re acting like I’m the problem? Your precious Georgia is fine. If you’re going to accuse someone, at least open your eyes first!"
Syrus shoved his phone in my face. "Explain this!" On the screen was an article with photos of Georgia’s past scandals. "Did you leak these? You’re trying to ruin her, even after the divorce?"
I stared at the screen, surprised. The article was harsh, but the details rang true. I hadn’t leaked anything, but seeing Georgia’s panicked expression gave me a small sense of satisfaction.
"Every word in that article is true, isn’t it?" I said, my eyes locking onto Georgia. "If there’s even one lie, I’ll walk out of here and get hit by a car. But if it’s all true, then maybe it’s your turn to face some consequences."
Georgia paled, looking to Syrus for help. He wrapped an arm around her, glaring at me.
"You’ve always been spiteful," he spat. "If you want to ruin yourself, go ahead. But don’t drag an innocent woman into your mess!"
I let out a harsh laugh. "Innocent? Georgia? You really are blind, aren’t you? You deserve each other."
Syrus stepped forward, his face twisted with rage. "Get out of here. If you want to die so badly, go do it somewhere else."
I shook my head, finally seeing how foolish I had been to love someone like him. "You really are a fool. But I’m done with this. I've put up with your crap for four years now... No more. You can keep your lies, your games, and your perfect little life."
A Drama Doll
Vivian's Pov
I stood there, watching the man I once loved display his blind devotion to Georgia, and I couldn’t help but question how I had been so foolish for so long. I felt no desire to linger in their twisted drama any longer. As I turned to leave with my belongings, Georgia’s voice stopped me.
“I would never admit to something I didn’t do! Why can’t you believe me? Do you really think I ruined your marriage out of spite? I’ve barely been around you two. I’m only here to film a movie. Why must you target me?”
Though she spoke to the room, her words were clearly aimed at me. I almost laughed at how ridiculous this family had become—one fool blindly in love, another conniving for personal gain, and Syrus, seething with misplaced hatred, ready to lash out at me any second.
Syrus turned to me, venom dripping from his voice. “If you didn’t set this up, then who did? Who else would go after Georgia like this, besides you?”
I sighed, too tired for this nonsense. I addressed Georgia directly. “If you’re so sure I’m the culprit, where’s your proof? Because without it, you’re looking at a defamation lawsuit.”
Her eyes widened in panic as everyone turned their attention to her. Even Syrus’s mother hesitated, doubt creeping into her expression. I had a point—who would risk everything on a revenge plot without solid evidence?
Tears welled up in Georgia’s eyes, and she turned to Syrus, desperate. “You believe me, don’t you? We were nearly family once. You saw how hard I worked. How could you think I’d be capable of this?”
Syrus, still caught in his lingering feelings for her, softened. He had always regretted what happened between them, and that regret kept him tethered to her, no matter how much it hurt me.
“I don’t think you did this,” he said, his tone gentle. “But we need proof to clear your name. Do you remember where you were that day?”
Georgia’s face crumpled at his weak defense. She burst into tears. “So you still doubt me? Just because Vivian said something, now I’m the villain? Fine! If you want proof, I’ll give it to you. I’ll die right here, and then you’ll see how much I care about clearing my name!”
Before anyone could react, Georgia lunged toward the sharp corner of a stone cabinet. At the speed she was moving, the collision could’ve been fatal. Syrus’s face turned pale, and even his mother screamed in horror.
I stayed still, knowing Georgia was too self-preserving to actually harm herself. This was just another dramatic display. But Syrus rushed forward, grabbing Georgia’s wrist just before her head hit the edge. Still, her forehead grazed the corner, leaving a gash that bled down her face.
Georgia trembled, terrified by her brush with death. Syrus wrapped her in a tight embrace, his voice shaking. “Georgia, what were you thinking? How could you be so reckless?”
Her voice quivered as she whispered, “Now you believe me, don’t you?”
Caught up in the moment, Syrus nodded without hesitation. Of course, she was innocent—how could anyone doubt her after she risked her life to prove it?
Watching their absurd display, I almost laughed. It was a perfect performance, worthy of applause. But I had no interest in staying for the encore. I was done with this farce.
I took a step toward the door, ready to leave for good, but Syrus’s voice stopped me. “I said stay where you are!”
I stopped, my patience completely worn out. I turned to face him. “What now? What could you possibly want?”
“You pushed her! You have nothing to say about it?” Syrus accused, his voice thick with anger.
I raised my eyebrows. "Are you serious? I didn’t tell her to try to bash her own head in. That was her decision. How is that my fault? If she had succeeded, would you be calling me a murderer?”
I crossed my arms, completely exasperated. “You really need to get your head checked. And if you’re accusing me of hurting her, where’s your proof? If you don’t have any, the best I can do is call an ambulance for her.”
Without waiting for a response, I pulled out my phone and started dialing emergency services. Syrus and his mother watched, panic flashing across their faces.
“It’ll take an hour for an ambulance to get here!” Syrus yelled, frantic. “By the time they arrive, she could be dead!”
I clenched my fists, frustration boiling over as every suggestion I made got shot down.
“What do you want from me?” I snapped.
“Just drive,” Syrus barked, lifting Georgia into his arms and heading for the door.
I stood there for a second, frozen by the chaos, until Syrus’s mother shoved me hard from behind.
“Move it! If anything happens, I’d love to see how you explain it,” she hissed. “It’s always bad luck when you’re around.”
I glanced at her, noticing the bitterness in her tone. It was clear she didn’t actually care much for Georgia. No one would curse their luck over an injured person if they truly cared. Shaking my head, I grabbed the car keys, curiosity pushing me to see how this whole thing would play out.
On the drive to the hospital, Syrus was on the phone, making sure Georgia would get the best care. I had to hold back a laugh. It wasn’t even a serious injury, but here he was, pulling strings for what was probably a minor cut. If we had waited any longer, the wound would have likely healed by itself.
When we finally arrived, a team of doctors was already waiting. They rushed Georgia inside as if she were on the verge of death, whisking her away on a stretcher. I raised an eyebrow, amused by all the theatrics.
The Arrest
Vivian's Pov
Two hours later, Georgia emerged from surgery, and the doctor’s awkward expression caught my eye.
Syrus, absorbed in concern for Georgia, didn’t seem to notice. “How is she? Will she be okay?”
The doctor cleared his throat. “Her injuries weren’t severe. We’ve stitched the cuts and are running some tests as a precaution. She should stay overnight for observation, but she’ll be fine.”
I couldn’t help but smirk to myself. Just as I suspected, the whole ordeal had been blown out of proportion. The medical staff seemed embarrassed by the fuss, dragging out the process to cover up how minor it really was.
Syrus, relieved, hurried after Georgia’s stretcher. He didn’t spare me a single glance. I watched him go, a deep ache spreading through my chest. The man I had loved for so long didn’t even see me anymore. I wanted to scream, but I stayed silent, letting the grief settle over me.
My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I froze when I saw the name on the screen. I let it go to voicemail, my heart racing. When it rang again, I took a deep breath and answered.
“Big brother...” I whispered.
“It’s time to come home,” he replied firmly.
My chest tightened at the sound of his voice. After three years of silence from my family, hearing him reach out shook me to my core. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I choked back a sob.
“Okay...” I managed to say.
Meanwhile, Syrus waited by Georgia’s side until she finally woke.
“Where’s Vivian?” Georgia asked weakly.
Syrus frowned. “She wasn’t involved in this. Can’t you see that?”
Georgia sighed. “I know, but could you at least talk to her? She didn’t do anything wrong.”
Syrus’s frustration grew. “Why are you still defending her? If she’s so innocent, why did she leave after the accident?”
His anger spiked when he learned I had already left the hospital while he was busy with Georgia. To make matters worse, his phone buzzed with new headlines, more damaging rumors about Georgia’s career flooding the internet. Syrus clenched his fists. There was no doubt in his mind that I was behind it all.
Georgia looked up at him, her voice soft. “Even if she did this, I’d forgive her. This is all because of me, anyway. If I hadn’t come back into your life, none of this would have happened.”
Syrus shook his head, refusing to listen. “Stop making excuses for her. She’s guilty, and that’s the end of it.”
Georgia didn’t argue further, secretly pleased. Syrus’s anger toward me only played into her hands.
Syrus’s expression softened. “Rest now. The doctor said you need to stay for observation. I’ll take care of everything else. Your career won’t suffer because of this, I promise.”
Georgia’s eyes lit up with gratitude, but Syrus quickly looked away. He muttered something about business and left the room.
As soon as he was gone, Georgia’s sweet demeanor vanished. Her eyes darkened with fury. She had to clear her name before anyone traced the scandals back to her. If Syrus ever found out, her carefully constructed facade would crumble.
---
Returning to my childhood home after three years overwhelmed me with emotions. The door I thought would never open to me again now stood in front of me. I felt foolish for ever believing I wouldn’t come back.
I hesitated at the doorstep, debating whether to turn back. But before I could decide, someone pushed me hard from behind, forcing me inside.
“What are you standing around for? Do you know we’ve been waiting three years for you to come back? If Uncle hadn’t stopped me, I would’ve dragged you home myself!” a familiar voice said.
I spun around to see Belinda, my childhood best friend. We had been inseparable growing up, sharing every secret and dream. She was the first person I confided in about my love for Syrus. But Belinda had strongly opposed it, leading to a falling out that involved our families. I had blamed her for exposing my secret, and for three long years, we hadn’t spoken, even though we still had each other’s numbers.
Seeing Belinda now made my eyes well up with tears. I never thought we’d make peace again.
Belinda grabbed my hand, her own eyes filled with tears. “Come on, Uncle and Manny have been waiting for you.”
Unable to speak, I nodded, letting Belinda guide me into the house.
Inside, my brother Manny and father Stanford sat on the couch, waiting. The sight of them made my lips tremble. My father stood up, arms open, a soft smile on his face. That was all it took— I broke down, running into his embrace.
My father had always been my protector, indulging my every whim. Now, I could see the toll the years had taken on him—he looked older, more tired. My heart ached with guilt. I had put them through so much by leaving.
Manny stayed quiet, watching the reunion from the side.
“Dad...” I sobbed, my father’s arms tightening around me.
When the tears finally stopped, I turned to Manny, feeling awkward. “I’m sorry, Manny. I was so stubborn back then. But I’m home now.”
I half-expected Manny to still be angry about our last fight, when he had threatened to disown me if I married Syrus. But he had been the one to call me home.
Manny smiled gently. “As long as you’re back, that’s all that matters. We’ve been waiting for you.”
I felt a wave of relief. Family was home—no matter how far I had strayed, they welcomed me back with open arms. I realized how foolish I had been to try and handle everything on my own for so long.
“I’ll never leave again,” I promised.
Manny ruffled my hair, just like when we were kids. “Don’t worry, your second brother loves you most. He’ll come around, even if he’s still sulking. You’ll have to coax him a little.”
I understood. I had been closest to my second brother, but our falling out right before I left had been brutal. The thought of seeing him now made me uneasy.
Manny gave me a reassuring smile. “No matter what, you’ll always be our little sister.”
Later, I retired to my old bedroom. Aside from a few new clothes and jewelry—proof that my family still thought of me—the room was just as I had left it. Tears filled my eyes again. I couldn’t put into words how sorry I felt.
My phone rang, interrupting my thoughts. I frowned when I saw Bonnie’s name.
“Where are you? I heard you left my brother! And where’s the necklace he gave me? You thief! I don’t care what you have to say—stealing is a crime! If you don’t give it back, I’m calling the cops!”
I frowned, trying to remember the necklace Bonnie was talking about. Nothing came to mind. But Bonnie’s hostility didn’t surprise me. I had been generous with my in-laws when I was with Syrus, showering them with expensive gifts. Now, though, it seemed time to collect on those “gifts” and set things right.
My past self had been too kind. That needed to change.
I ended the call abruptly, shutting out Bonnie's shrill accusations. With no intention of engaging further, I blocked all their numbers and switched to a new phone, cutting off any means of contact. They had never made an effort to truly understand me, so it was time to sever ties completely.
My family supported my decision wholeheartedly and helped me make a clean break. After two days of rest, I felt my exhaustion lift.
When Belinda saw the latest headlines about Syrus and Georgia, she was livid. "Why did you give up being our family heiress to endure life with that man? It's infuriating!"
Though I was pleased by Syrus’s public backlash, it pained me to relive my own suffering. "I was young and blind then, but I see clearly now. Are you going to keep scolding me for my mistakes?" I responded calmly.
Belinda, surprised by my peaceful acceptance, cleared her throat, trying to change the subject. "Alright, since you're acknowledging your faults, I’ll let it go this time. But that bracelet Syrus is wearing—doesn’t it look familiar? The one Auntie gave you from your heirloom necklace?"
I inspected the photo and confirmed it. The bracelet was indeed from my family’s precious jewels. I hadn’t cared much about retrieving other gifts from my past life, but this heirloom was different. My mother had specifically left it for me, and Syrus had no right to flaunt it.
The thought of that bracelet being close to Georgia revolted me. "If you’re free this afternoon, would you come with me to reclaim my belongings? I left behind some valuable items."
Belinda, initially hesitant due to prior plans, agreed eagerly at the chance for front-row entertainment. "Sure, let’s head over now."
I drove the lead sports car, with Belinda following in her own. Belinda’s jaw dropped when we arrived at a luxury four-story townhouse. "Seriously? You lived here all this time?"
To most, the townhouse seemed extravagant, but to me, it felt like a modest dwelling. Belinda couldn’t understand why I had chosen such hardship for someone undeserving. But then again, perhaps it was the madness of love—a bitterness she was glad she hadn't tasted.
Belinda urged me to hurry, irritated by the dreariness of the place. Unsure if Syrus was home, I entered with my keys. Nancy, lounging on the sofa, shrieked at the unexpected visitor.
"So, the divorcee dares to show her face!" Nancy exclaimed. "My son told me you took nothing in the settlement. Are you here to demand your share? Not a cent of what he earned will go to you!"
Ignoring Nancy’s angry outburst, I reached for the ruby necklace that adorned her neck. My movements were swift and deliberate; before she could even comprehend my intention, I had unclasped the necklace and pulled it away from her. Nancy's eyes widened in shock, and she stumbled backward, her face a mask of disbelief. I deftly sidestepped her frantic attempts to snatch the necklace back, maintaining a calm composure as she fumed.
“How dare you steal from me, you worthless tramp!” Nancy’s voice was sharp and filled with venom. “I’ll make sure you never set foot here again! And forget about reconciling with my son!”
Her words were laced with bitterness, but I remained unruffled. I turned and handed the necklace to Belinda, who had been watching the scene unfold with a quiet resolve. Belinda took the necklace and carefully placed it into a velvet-lined jewelry box she had brought with her.
“This necklace,” I said, my tone steady, “was given to me as a greeting gift when I first married into this family. Now, I’m taking back what is rightfully mine. It has become clear that I was never truly welcomed or valued here, and I will not pretend otherwise any longer.”
I stood firm and spoke calmly. I was just stating the truth—taking back what belonged to me. There was nothing to argue about.
Nancy’s face grew red with anger. "You gave these things to me!" she shouted.
"Now you want them back? That’s ridiculous! Once you give something, it’s not yours anymore!"
Nancy refused to return anything. Even though she never liked me much, the gifts had boosted her image.
The ruby necklace, especially, had garnered her a lot of attention over the years.
Nancy cared a lot about what others thought of her. When people admired the necklace, she felt proud. So, when I asked for it back, she became furious.
I wasn’t surprised. I had dealt with their selfishness for years. But today, I was set on getting my things back.
They didn’t deserve them, and I wasn’t leaving without what was mine.
"You ungrateful bitch, I'll make sure you regret ever being born into this world." Nancy sneered handing me the necklace as she stormed off.
I couldn't help feeling good about myself sticking it to that winch.
The next morning, just as I was about to have my breakfast, the doorbell rang. I opened the door to be met with two policeman.
"Vivian, you're under arrest."
I widened my eyes in disbelief.
"Under what charges?"
"Theft, breaking and entry."
A single thought came to my mind... "Nancy..."
Smart Move
Vivian’s POV
“She must be made to face the full wrath of the law!” I kept hearing Nancy’s voice the moment we arrived with the cops at the station.
I was right after all.
Belinda glared at her, and if looks could kill, Nancy would surely be dead by now. Somehow, I am grateful and relieved that someone who looks out for me is with me to face the sharks in Syrus’s family.
“She came into the house and stole from me!” Nancy was yelling at the top of her voice.
Belinda made to respond to her, but I grabbed her hand gently and whispered to her, “Don’t pay attention to her now, Bel. We will handle her when the time is right,” and for once, Belinda obeyed me.
We maintained our calm and allowed Nancy do all the shouting and raving. Not too long after that, Syrus walked in with Georgia. I didn’t even notice they had come until Belinda drew my attention.
“Just take a look at them,” Belinda said. “They look horrible together. I wonder what man in his right senses would ever want to be with a woman like Georgia, but of course, it had to be that disgusting ex-husband of yours,” Belinda said bitterly and angrily.
As she talked, I looked at Syrus and Georgia, and I knew immediately that Belinda was speaking from a place of anger, because there was no way anyone could deny that Georgia looked stunning. She always did. I mean, what else would have been expected from a fast rising star who has her gorgeous face plastered in a few magazines.
“Look away, Bel. If they catch you staring at them, it would not be cool,” I whispered to Belinda and hoped she listens, but instead, Belinda kept glaring at them until they got to where we were seated.
Georgia’s expensive perfume filled the entire room, and Belinda scrunched her nose up in disgust, but then again, it was all a show simply because she did not like Georgia. Belinda would insist on Nicki Minaj being ugly if she doesn’t like her, so I wasn’t surprised.
Syrus and his baby doll went over to a ranting Nancy and tried to calm her down. Their presence actually worked, because Nancy eventually quieted down, but not before saying, “Make sure she pays for this.”
Syrus turned to me in a rage and walked over to us in a few strides. I watched the movement of his legs in his sweatpants and I swallowed hard, because I know the wonders of those legs when we made…
I shook my head to get rid of the image that was gradually forming. All of that is in the past now, and if Belinda could see my heart right now, she would definitely chop off my head.
“You cannot get your hands off my family, can you?” Syrus said angrily. “You want to be a part of my family so bad that you find yourself coming back, huh?” Syrus accused as Georgia came and stood behind him supportively.
I was done being their foot mat, and this time around, I would not let Belinda fight for me. When I was head over heels in love with Syrus and stupid, I let him walk all over me, but not anymore. I rose with pride and fearlessness, facing Syrus like he never meant anything to me from the very beginning.
“Have you forgotten that I was the one who divorced you and not the other way round?” I asked him.
Syrus blinked, visibly taken aback by my new found confidence and boldness. I smiled inwardly, liking the feel I was getting. I wanted Syrus to feel badly exactly how he made me feel all this time.
“Then what were you doing in our home?” Syrus fired back.
“To claim what was mine, Syrus. You did not think that I would abandon something that is rightfully mine for your family to flaunt and enjoy the attention that comes from owning such luxury, do you?” I asked, looking at Syrus straight in the eyes
Now that we are divorced, I could see clearly that he was really not all that special. My love, admiration, and adoration for him made me treat him like a god, and right now, I regretted it. Syrus never stood up for me. He never showed me off the way he was carrying on with Georgia, and somehow, somewhere deep inside, I felt the pang of pain and jealousy.
“We are divorced already. Move on, Vivian,” Syrus spat.
I scoffed in disbelief. Why wasn’t he talking about the fact that what I took was actually mine, and not a case of robbery or theft as Nancy has been so adamantly putting it.
“Oh, of course I will, as soon as your family gives me what is mine,” I told Syrus.
“Let’s let her go, Syrus, we don’t need all these drama. Plus, she is just acting out of anger and hurt,” Georgia said sweetly from behind Syrus.
I wanted to scratch her face so bad for sounding like a purring cat. It was infuriating that both Syrus and his mother continued to fall for her antics and pretense, but right from the first time I met Georgia I knew her for exactly who she was.
She could fool everyone one but certainly not me.
“You keep defending her, Georgia. How is she going to learn the hard way? If we continue to indulge her, who knows what next she might do?” Syrus turned to Georgia and asked her.
They seemed like the perfect couple that absolutely complemented each other that it hurts so badly to watch them. It did not also help that Belinda kept breathing angrily behind me.
“We shouldn’t even be here,” she said in a way that only me heard her.
I wanted to tell Belinda that I completely agree with her, but there was no getting out of here without sorting this out first.
Soon enough we were ushered into the grand office to address the issue and probably detain me as Nancy would want, but little did they know that I came prepared for all of them.
“You are being accused of theft and breaking in, Ms. Vivian. This is not a light crime to look over,” the cop said.
“But how can that be when I only walked into the house to take what is rightfully mine?” I asked as I dropped the evidence of ownership in front of the cop and everyone else.
The joy that filled my heart when Nancy and Syrus looked on in embarrassment would last me a lifetime.
Heck No, I'm pregnant!
Vivian’s POV
It has been three weeks since the incident with Syrus and his egoistic and manipulative mother. The nights have become better for me as I now sleep peacefully.
“Great job, Vivian, you have made us proud,” my boss, Dan, called out cheerily.
Ever since I started working here, he had been showering me with praises. At first I was uncomfortable, because I did not want the old staff to feel jealous or threatened, but then again, I got to realize that he extended the accolades to everyone, which is why everyone loves Dan.
“Thank you, Dan,” I responded with the same energy and went on to doing my job, but Dan walked up to me, staring down at me with a scrutinizing gaze. “What is it?” I asked him.
But Dan kept staring at me. In fact, as I raised my head to ask him what the problem was, he stared deeply into my eyes, making me a little uncomfortable. “Is there something on my face?” I asked Dan as I used my hand to wipe my face.
“Are you unwell?” Dan eventually asked me.
His question threw me off balance. It has only been a couple of weeks, and I know that being sick at a new job does not speak well of anyone. “Of course not,” I quickly answered.
“But your eyes have a different shade today. They look somewhat whitish,” Dan pressed.
I dug my hand into my purse, grabbed my mini-mirror and took a quick glance at my eyes, but I could not see what Dan was on about. “I look fine to me, and I am actually fine,” I put the small mirror away and told Dan.
Dan sighed in surrender. “You know that you could take some days off if you do feel sick, right?” Dan said. “It doesn’t matter whether or not you just started working here; we love and care for all our workers,” Dan said reassuringly.
“I will put that in mind, thank you, but I am definitely fine,” I insisted.
Dan smiled warmly and walked away.
I quickly grabbed the mirror again and took another look. Aside from the fact that I have been feeling a little tired easily, and I sleep like a dead dog all through the night, and slight headache occasionally, I felt very okay. Besides, all those are signs of stress. I hadn’t worked in a while now, so it was normal for my body to react to working everyday of the week. Of course, I am not about to say that to Dan regardless of his reassurances.
Just then, Belinda strolled in like she owned the place. I groaned upon seeing her, and Belinda laughed.
“You are never going to let me be,” I said as soon as she reached where I was and sank into the chair across from me. “You keep checking up on me as though I am a baby,” I queried and Belinda laughed. She knew my query was harmly.
That was what I liked about Belinda; she always understood everything I was saying and how I was saying it without the need to explain myself.
“I have some free time, and I was bored, so I decided to come and bug my favorite girl,” Belinda said. Well, part of it was true, and I knew it.
“Stop lying, Belinda. You are only checking in to make sure I am adjusting well with work for the hundredth time since I started walking here,” I said, leaned in and reduced my voice, “You are going to make them think I am incapable of working efficiently,” I told Belinda.
And like magic, Belinda brought out a food pack from her backpack. “Chinese for lunch, yeah? Does this cover us up?” Belinda asked with a smile on her lips.
We both giggled together. “You are incorrigible,” I teased her shaking my head.
“Vivian, are you okay? Your eyes look whitish,” Belinda pointed out.
I groaned out in exasperation. “Oh my gosh, not you again, please.”
“Someone else has mentioned it already?” Belinda asked.
“Yep, my boss,” I responded.
“You see? Which means what I am seeing is not in my head,” Belinda said and took my hands in hers. She always treated me like a baby, and honestly, I had missed the feeling of someone who actually cared about me and was never tired of showing it. “You should request for a break if you are overwhelmed,” Belinda said.
“Definitely not! I am here, please. You all need to stop fussing over me,” I said and got up. I honestly did not like the way everyone kept treating me like I was some fragile equipment, incapable of looking out for myself. It was becoming overbearing.
Belinda knew that I had gotten upset. “I am sorry,” she said.
I turned to respond to her, but in the blink of an eye, darkness swallowed me up as I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness. The voices of alarm were only a distant echo in my ears.
Some hours later, I woke up to find myself in a hospital bed. I turned around sharply, but Belinda was right beside me, holding my hand tenderly.
“You are awake! You gave us all a scare. Your dad and Manny should be here soon,” Belinda informed me. I could literally feel the relief in her voice.
“Why did you have to trouble them? I asked her.
“I did not. Dan called them as soon as we brought you in even before I could think of it,” Belinda said and paused for a while. Then she looked at me deeply and asked, “How are you, Vivian?”
“I am fine. Has the doctor said what is wrong with me?” I asked Belinda.
“Not yet, but they collected blood samples for test which I am sure should be out any time soon,” Belinda told me.
Just as she finished talking, the doctor entered into my ward with a wide smile on his face, leaving the door open.
“Congratulations, Ms. Vivian, you are pregnant with triplets,” he announced cheerfully.
Belinda and I stared at each other in shock.
Look Who Showed Up at My door
Vivian’s POV
“I cannot be pregnant! I cannot be pregnant!” I yelled and cried at the same time in the living room.
My dad, Manny and Belinda sat still and watched as I rant and pace about the room. The least thing I was expecting was pregnancy, and to think that it was right after I divorced Syrus.
“Don’t you want a baby?” My dad asked gently, not wanting to piss me off further.
“You mean babies,” Manny chipped in.
The word ‘babies’ rang a loud bell in my ears. Babies! What would I do with triplets as a single mother? I was only beginning to find my bearing after a nasty divorce. How am I supposed to cope without a husband? Fine, I know my family and Belinda will ever be present for me, but this is not how I had hoped to live life for heaven’s sake!
“Don’t you want a baby?” My dad asked again, more gently this time around.
It was obvious to all of them that I was furious and mad as hell. Unable to respond, I broke down in tears and wept bitterly. My dad and Manny looked at each other in confusion; they did not know what to do with my emotional breakdown. Belinda said something to them, and they quietly exited the living room, leaving just me and Belinda.
Belinda joined me on the floor, gathered me in her arms and cradled me while I poured out all my tears.
“I am so sorry, Vivian,” Belinda said to me.
“I wanted to have kids. I wanted a baby, but not like this,” I managed to say amidst the tears. I was even surprised that Belinda heard and understood what I was saying. She always did anyway.
“I know you did, but these are a blessing, Vivian. I need you to stop crying, please,” Belinda pleaded.
“I know they are a blessing, Bel, but can’t you see my family? No one has ever raised kids outside marriage. My parents gave birth to us as husband and wife, and raised us all as a family. Your parents did too, right?” I rambled on while Belinda listened religiously.
“So why is this happening to me?” I cried profusely.
“I am sorry,” Belinda apologized again for something that wasn’t even her fault. “You need to stop crying so that your babies can feel better, please,” Belinda cajoled.
I managed to stop crying and wiped my eyes clean. Belinda was right, I needed to stop crying. In as much as I was divorced, I could not have been happier that I am going to be a mum. It has always been my dream to get married and have babies, just like my parents, but unfortunately, I had fallen for a man who most probably did not share the same sentiment.
My parents had been my perfect example. I saw how they loved and cared for me and my brothers in love and unity while growing up, and deep down, I had wanted something like what they had before my mum passed; a contagious and endless love.
But I had been wrong with Syrus, and now I am going to be having his babies.
“You are right, Bel,” I said, but neither of us got up from the floor. We just remained cuddled up in each other’s arms. “I just did not think that it would be after the messy divorce with Syrus,” I admitted to Belinda.
Belinda cleared her throat mischievously and said, “Syrus has always been a dickhead, and I am pretty sure he had already been acting up for months,” Belinda stretched.
I turned and looked at Belinda, confused. “Where are you going with this?” I asked her.
“I am just surprised that you were still having sex with him, that’s all,” Belinda said and looked away, sniggering.
I had expected her to be angry at me for getting pregnant for Syrus whom she hated with passion, not making jest of the situation.
“Well, it’s…I…” I stuttered but could not find a comprehensive explanation to anything.
“It’s fine, Vivian. I do not like Syrus, but you are going to make me an Aunty, so heck, I am excited!” Belinda said and hopped on her feet, her excitement rubbing off on me instantly. I smiled as I watched her.
“And you should be too,” Belinda said as she grabbed her purse.
“I am happy,” I said to her as I smiled genuinely for the first time since I heard the news, and since we got back from the hospital days ago. “But where are you going?” I asked Belinda. “I thought we were going to stay cuddled up all day,” I pouted like a spoilt little child.
“I am going to get us some Chinese and drinks for celebration, and maybe you should go talk to your dad and Manny. You freaked them out, girl,” Belinda said.
I did not want Belinda to leave, but she would only be gone for a few minutes anyway. Thankfully, the restaurant was just down the road.
“I will do that, but please no wine,” I cautioned as my hand involuntarily went to my stomach.
Belinda looked at me and laughed. “I am not stupid, alright? Plus, I am already looking forward to being an Aunty,” she said.
“Make sure you don’t stay long,” I told Belinda. I wanted her back as soon as possible. Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones, but somehow, I had suddenly begun to crave company.
“Sure,” Belinda said, but before she left, she turned to me and asked, “Just wondering, are you going to tell that jerk about the babies?” Belinda asked and we both know that she was referring to Syrus.
“No,” I answered without thinking twice.
Syrus was a dickhead to me, and he did not treat me nicely. Even after the divorce, he never bothered to reach out; more like he was excited about our divorce, so why should I tell him? He would probably laugh in my face and say that I am only using the pregnancy to run back into his life.
“You will come crawling back.”
Those were his exact words, and I would rather die than see him have a filled day on it. Belinda nodded and left, but minutes after, I heard a sound knock on the door. I stood up and walked to the door, saying, “That was quick.”
But as I opened the door, there was Syrus standing right in front of me.
His Plan
Vivian’s POV
I stared at him, dumbfounded. For a moment, we both stared at each other without saying a word, more like taking in each other. The last time we had seen each other had been at the station when Nancy had me arrested.
I cannot dispute the fact that Syrus looked extremely good-looking just standing there in his pants that clung to his thighs and leather jacket that held onto his muscles. I would have been swooned by his appearance, but I wasn’t, and it actually made me happy that his presence was not affecting me that much as it used to.
“What do you want here?” I asked without bothering to be welcoming. Syrus certainly did not deserve any form of hospitality from me, not after all that he has done.
“Can we talk?” He asked me.
I was a little taken aback that his tone was very much calm instead of angry and shouting the place down, just like his mother.
“Are you here to accuse me of theft again?” I said crossing my hands over my chest as I stared up at him. Our height differences were obvious, but even that could not intimidate me. It had never intimidated me anyway. Instead, I had felt warm and protected in Syru’s muscular length and form.
“I never accused you of theft,” Syrus counted gently.
“Then state whatever you are here for and get out,” I said. Suddenly, all that I had endured being married to Syrus came rushing back, and I just wanted him out of my sight as soon as possible.
“Why are you being so hostile?” Syrus asked me.
He looked into my eyes as much as I looked into his without blinking or flinching. Deep down anyway, I wondered what happened to the Syrus I was married to. The usual him would be chopping my head off by now, or speaking to me in a much nonchalant tone, but standing before me now, his demeanor was unreadable, and therefore, confusing.
“Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be with your Georgia?” I said sarcastically. Then I dramatically stretched my neck and looked around. “Oh, you didn’t come with her? I thought she always followed you around like a puppet,” I sneered.
Somehow, Syrus’s attitude just did not sit well with me. He was so calm and collected that it became suspicious to me. Something had to make him turn up at my doorstep unannounced and acting like a proper gentleman. If Syrus had been half as calm as he was when we were married, maybe I would not have been so quick to file for a divorce.
“Please, leave Georgia out of our conversations,” Syrus said.
I could sense a little agitation in his voice; a feeling that something was really bothering him and he needed to get it out of the way, which even made me more troubled, because for the life of me, I could not fathom what would drive Syrus to my house after our divorce.
“You had better state why you are here then, because you do know that my family aren’t exactly your fans,” I reminded him coyly.
I wanted so badly for Syrus to feel what I felt being married to him all that time and being around his mother. I wanted him to feel the brunt of being in the same space with people who did not like you, or could not stand you.
“May I?” Syrus asked, indicating to be let into the house.
My mouth almost fell open in shock. Okay, this is getting more confusing. What the heck is going on? Why is Syrus here and playing calm? A part of me now wanted to eagerly hear what he had to say, but then again, time was ticking by really fast, and Belinda would be back from the restaurant any minute from now. In as much as I did not feel so much love for Syrus anymore, I would hate for Belinda to find him here and unleash her anger on him.
So I moved out of the way and Syrus casually strolled into our living room.
I watched him look around for a while and waited for him to eventually state why he had come. Syrus had never been to my house before. He had always ensured that he stayed far away from my family as best as possible, while I was eager to get myself acquainted with his mother.
Well, that should have been the sign.
“You definitely didn’t come all the way here just to take a survey on my living room. Why are you here, Syrus?” I asked when I got tired of waiting for him to say something. If my dad or Manny eventually came out and found him here, he would not enjoy it either.
Either ways, I needed Syrus out of my living room, and my life.
“Were you ever going to tell me?” Syrus asked without turning to me.
“Tell you what?” I asked him. For a minute, I was lost.
Syrus’s kept his back facing me while he talked, so I could not exactly get the expression on his face, and his body gave no sign at all for me to read.
“That you are pregnant, Vivian,” Syrus said, still without turning.
I staggered backwards and grabbed the couch to support myself. How did he know? It had barely been a couple of days since I found out, and even though I told Belinda I wasn’t going to tell Syrus, I wasn’t even certain yet.
Then Syrus turned, a look of pain and hurt in his eyes. “Were you ever going to tell me that I would be a father soon?” he asked painfully.
“How did you find out?” I asked.
“Is that all you care about? You kept the pregnancy a secret from me, Vivian!” Syrus charged.
“I had intentions of telling you…I found out a couple of days ago,” I tried to explain to Syrus, realizing now that indeed, I probably should have told him about it. “I would have told you in due time, Syrus.”
Syrus turned to me instead, and said, “Even though we are separated, I plan on catering for our children, so get used to that.” Then he stalked off.
I fell on the couch in defeat, stunned.
What I Want
“Look who is back!” Belinda yelled excitedly as she stepped into the living room. “Oh, you finally got off the floor,” Belinda said as she began to put out all she bought from the restaurant.
Syrus left some minutes ago, but I still could not bring myself to stand up from my sitting position. First of all, I had not expect to see him today, much more have that conversation. I had no idea how he knew in the first place. The only persons that knew are Belinda and my family, so how the heck did Syrus come to know about my pregnancy?
Another thing that threw me off balance completely was the fact that Syrus’s actions took me by surprise. I had expected that he would flaunt millions of naira on my face and kiss us goodbye. Never did I imagine that I would sense that saw emotion in his eyes and voice as he talked about our babies, and also insisting on being a part of their lives.
Our babies.
It sounded surreal to me, and it would have been awesome to have us all as a family, but that would be wishful thinking on my part, because that boat had sailed already. It was gone forever, and nothing would ever bring me and Syrus back together again. In fact, I would be a fool to ever think of going back to him after all he and his mother put me through.
“I specifically asked that your food be less spicy, because I want my babies to feel comfortable after you have eaten,” Belinda rambled on as she set the table.
The aroma of what she bought filled the entire room, but my mind was far from food. Usually, especially recently, I would have pounced on the food and devoured everything at a go, but right now, I could barely think or feel anything else. Before the doctor announced that I was pregnant with triplets, I turned into a foodie. Belinda had even teased about me being starved while living with Syrus, and that had to be the only logical explanation to why I was attacking food that way.
None of us ever guessed that it would be pregnancy hormones.
“And I got two extra plates for you. Now that we know that they are going to be triplets, you need all the food in your system that you can take in,” Belinda said cheerfully. Her energy was always infectious, but not right now. She stood and took a look at her arrangement on the table and nodded, impressed.
Then it dawned on her that I hadn’t said a single word or made any sound since she got back.
Belinda turned to me and looked at me with concerned eyes. “Hey, what’s wrong?” She asked, but I kept mute.
My mind was still trying to get a hang of my current situation, and how in heavens Syrus and I were supposed to co-parent when we could barely stand each other in a room.
Belinda, more worried now about my silence, came closer to me and sat beside me. “Vivian, you look pale. What happened?” Belinda asked. Then when I wasn’t forthcoming with answers, she shook her head and said, “I knew I shouldn’t have left you all by yourself.”
“Look,” Belinda paused and continued, “You do not need to worry yourself about anything, because I have your back, Vivian. We are going to get through this together, alright?” Belinda said with warm assurance, but unknown to her, she was misunderstanding my mood.
“It’s not that, Bel,” I finally managed to get some words out. I knew that if I did not say something any time soon, Belinda was going to blow things out of proportion, and in no time, she would have my dad and brother fawning over me, and right now, that was the last thing I needed.
“Then what’s up, girl?” Belinda asked. Then as though something struck in her mind, she chuckled and asked, “Are you experiencing pregnancy mood swing? I heard it’s a thing with pregnant women.”
“Bel, Syrus was here,” I said in a low whisper as though I could not believe it myself. Actually, I was still struggling to believe it, and his presence just does something to my entire body system.
“I knew it had something to do with that jerk!” Belinda became instantly protective and annoyed.
I wanted to tell her that calling the father of my babies names wasn’t cool, but she wasn’t wrong at all. Regardless of the fact that I was carrying Syrus’s babies, he was still a jerk. He had always been a jerk, and being my baby-daddy did not change that.
“When?” Belinda asked.
“A couple of minutes ago,” I answered.
“Did your folks see him?” She asked again and I shook my head. “So he came in here to confront you when you were alone? Did he plan for it? I hope you walked him out, though,” Belinda rambled on angrily.
“He knows I am pregnant, Belinda,” I told Belinda. Somebody had to share this knowledge with me.
Belinda’s eyes almost popped out of their socket in shock. “How the heck did that happen? Who told him?!” Belinda asked me.
“I don’t know, Belinda,” I said, and against my wish, tears gathered in my eyes and they almost instantly began to slide down my cheeks.
“Oh no, please don’t cry,” Belinda said and came over to cradle me immediately. “What did he say? Did he threaten you?” Belinda asked as she consoled me, but I was too busy trying to stop the tears from falling that I did not respond to her questions.
“I knew his presence would be up to no good. He came here to threaten you about the babies, huh? Hope he did not ask you to take them out,” Belinda’s voice was a little raised in alarm.
“He wants to be a father to them,” I answered before Belinda would run wild with her imaginations, assumptions and conclusions. I mean, if I let her, she would be suing Syrus already.
“Oh wow, he said that?” Belinda was obviously surprised. I nodded my head, and Belinda asked again, “Is that what you want?”
I shook my head slowly, sadly, “I don’t know, Belinda. I don’t know what I want.”
Intentions Gone Wrong
Georgia’s POV
“That will be all, Miss Georgia. Thank you for joining us on the show,” the representative for the star booster said with a tender smile.
Georgia smiled charmingly to the camera as well and said, “Oh, thank you for having me,” she told the young lady.
She had just finished a round of interview with star booster, one of the platforms that would help promote her and bring her to the limelight. The lady had asked just the right questions…just as Georgia had paid their manager to do.
She liked exactly how things were going for her.
After the representative and her crew members left, Georgia went to the restaurant and waited for Syrus. The interview was held in the hotel loft, so it was very easy to just grab lunch after the interview, and also, she and Syrus had decided to meet up for lunch.
Georgia checked her fancy wristwatch; Syrus was fifteen minutes late already.
“What could be keeping him up?” Georgia asked herself as she ordered for a glass of Mojito while she waited. Finally, she had Syrus all to herself; divorced and very single, and with this new interview, things were about to be different for the both of them.
Not long, Syrus walked into the restaurant in long strides. Georgia watched the movement of his legs lustily. “Soon, all of these would be mine,” Georgia said to herself.
As Syrus got to where she was sitting and waiting for him, Georgia noticed one of the restaurant customers staring at them with curiosity.
“Well, time to give you all a show,” Georgia whispered to herself as she grabbed Syrus’s hand before he took his seat, signaling him for a peck. Like a gentleman, Syrus pecked her on both cheeks before he took his seat.
Georgia glanced briefly at the nosy customer to be sure she caught that moment. Everything that would make Georgia and Syrus look like the perfect couple, Georgia was up for it.
“How was your interview?” Syrus asked, but his voice was distant and unsettled.
“It went well, although I still wish you would join me in taking these interviews one of these days,” Georgia said.
Syrus only ordered for a glass of water with lots of ice; he definitely wasn’t in the best of moods. Sweetly, Georgia reached forth for his hand and took his in hers. “Is this about what I told you?” Georgia asked.
“Huh?” For a minute, Syrus was completely lost. Actually, since he stepped into the restaurant, he had been absentminded.
“Are you in a mood because of the information I gave you about Vivian?” Georgia elaborated.
“Oh, that,” Syrus said. Then he snorted. “I almost did not believe you, Georgia,” he said.
“But you know that I would never lie to you,” Georgia said. I love you too much to outwardly lie to you or hurt you, Syrus, Georgia said inwardly. She could not wait for the day she would freely express how she felt to Syrus, and he would reciprocate wholeheartedly.
By that time, Vivian would have been out of their lives completely for good.
“I had gone in for a checkup, like I already told you,” Georgia recapped. “And while I passed by the ward, which I didn’t even know that its patient was Vivian, I heard the doctor clearly announcing to her and that lousy lowlife friend of hers about Vivian being pregnant with triplets,” Georgia said and chuckled lightly. “I could not believe it myself. I mean, anything just to rope you in,” Georgia finished.
“Yeah, she did not deny it when I asked her,” Syrus said.
Georgia’s head snapped as she looked at Syrus. “Where…how…I don’t…” Georgia struggled to find the right words.
“I had to,” Syrus said.
Georgia was still a little lost, but nonetheless, she took Syrus’s hand again and said sweetly, “No matter what, none of that matters anymore. I know the embarrassment she put you and your mother through. It’s a good thing you already know, so that you don’t fall into one of her schemes,” Georgia ensured that the words came out sweetly.
“You will be alright, okay?” She tried to assure Syrus. Syrus nodded in agreement. Then Georgia asked him with a smile, “But how did you confront her?”
“I went over to her family house to talk about it,” Syrus answered, oblivious of Georgia’s feelings.
Instantly, Georgia almost turned purple. Her insides churned and she almost let out a painful howl. The only thing that did not reflect in the way she felt was her hand holding Syrus’s hand. Georgia was so skilled in what she did that she still managed to hold Syrus tenderly, even though what she desperately wanted to do was squeeze her fingers in annoyance.
“Why would you do that, Syrus? You know she triggers your emotions, and we are trying to get you out of that space,” Georgia said.
“I had to, Georgia. That was one of the reasons why you told me, right?” Syrus looked deeply at Georgia and asked.
Georgia gritted her teeth and released a tight smile.
And Syrus misread her emotions. “Thank you, Georgia, for finding out and telling me immediately about it,” Syrus started.
Oh, now I wish I didn’t, Georgia cried inwardly, regretting her very actions.
“If it wasn’t for you, Vivian would probably never have mentioned anything to me. She would never have reached out to me and informed me about my impending fatherhood,” Syrus continued with a proud and happy smile that Georgia hadn’t seen on Syrus’s face in a really long time.
“Triplets, Georgia,” Syrus was happy.
Georgia released another tight smile. She was gradually turning purple while Syrus basked in his excitement. When she had hurried told Syrus what she heard at the hospital, she had done so with the intentions that Syrus would fight Vivian for trying to trap him into a commitment, but now it seemed that she was doing it without even trying.
“I am going to be the best dad ever,” Syrus said, still reveling in the feel of the moment.
“Of course, you would,” Georgia said tightly. Any more words about it from Syrus and her charade would fall apart and she would scream. “I need to use the restroom,” Georgia quickly excused herself and hurried off.
In the restroom, she released her pent up emotions and yelled in anger.
