Chapter 6
I entered the mansion and was taken aback by the interior's splendour.
Everything about this mansion shouts money and luxury.
Then there are the late-fifties women. she gave me a warm laugh.
"Good morning mam, my name is Celia, and I work as a maid here," she said, and I smiled.
"There are a total of fifty maids in the mansion. Some are cleaning, while others are in the servant quarters; but, I am available if needed," she told me.
"Come, let me show you Mr. Campbell's bedroom," she added, raising my heartbeat with each passing second.
How am I supposed to live with him? He didn't even want to look at my face.
"Sure," I responded tentatively, and followed her.
We ascended the glass-encased great stairwell to the upper level. She let me inside Adrian's master bedroom once she opened the door.
His room is painted in a dark colour theme. It has a king-size bed in the middle and a large glass door facing front, and it reminds me of him in some ways. It has a sofa and other lavish furnishings.
As I approach it, I take a glance around the room. It's colossal and stunning.
The door opened, and I heard it.
There's also a door in the room, and a man emerges from it, and it's Adrian.
So it's a walk-in closet. Adrian arrives dressed in a grey tuxedo, as if he were a model fresh off the pages of a magazine.
Then I glanced in the mirror; I was wearing a basic blue shirt and denim pants, and my clothing was not labelled like his. Despite this, I do not feel depressed since I enjoy myself as I am and will never change for others.
He glanced into my eyes as he saw me in his bedroom. I took a few steps back as blood rushed into my veins so quickly that I had to swallow.
He walks up to the dresser next to the bed and stops there, then looks at me.
"Come," he said sharply.
I take a step closer towards him, hesitantly.
Finally, I get close to him; I notice a piece of paper in the drawer with the words RULES scrawled over it.
He handed me the paper and said, "Take it and read it."
Rules-
1. You are nothing more than a maid for Mr. Adrian Campbell, his wife just on paper, therefore you must obey his orders.
2. You will share a bedroom with him and sleep on the floor.
3. You are not permitted to act contrary to his wishes.
"I see you've read all of the regulations, so you'll know exactly what you have to do from now on," he added, and I glanced down, exhausted, while nodding a bit.
"Good," he remarked as he approached me. As I stared at him, I felt quite wary.
"Trust me, my lovely wife," he whispered as he tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear. My arm swelled with goosebumps. He smirked when he saw my reaction.
"As long as you will obey me, it will make your life easier," he said, smirking, then pulled away. I stopped breathing, as he was so near to me.
He eventually drew back and adjusted his pricey suit.
When he moved away from me, I exhaled with relief.
He turned around and walked away, leaving me standing in the middle of the room.
Over the wall, I lay my exhausted body. So, what's next for me?
I'm now married to a cold-blooded jerk who just wants to kill me.
I fell down the wall, my hand covering my lips as I sobbed uncontrollably. I can't believe anything like this happened to me.
Why am I being pointed out? Since childhood, I've never had a regular existence, and now this, first that nasty person I called my uncle and aunt, and now this, my so-called spouse.
Is God forgetting to put happiness in the Bible, and I am so unloved for you, God?
I sat there for who knows how long.
I was shocked when the doorbell rang.
My legs feel like they're about to give up on my body, so I struggle to stand up.
I made it to the door, and when I opened it, Celine was waiting there with a kind grin. My clothing bags with her were the second item I noticed.
"Here are your suitcases," she says, and I accept it with a smile.
I placed my luggage in the corner of the room after receiving them from her and got out my things to wear.
My hair was put into a sloppy bun and I wore pyjama leggings with a plain blouse.
Finally, I leave the room after changing.
I noticed numerous maids cleaning, some of them were working.
When they all spotted me, they all welcomed me, and I gave them an odd smile.
I was quite uncomfortable.
I followed Kitchin throughout the home.
A maid says, "Do you need anything, ma'am?"
"Can you tell me where the kitchen is?" I said as I looked around. I asked, anxiously tapping my foot.
I eventually found Kitchin after carefully following instructions.
When I saw Kitchin's wide-eyed expression, I came to a halt. I've never seen anything more gorgeous and elegant than this one, complete with modern equipment that I've only ever seen in magazines.
I looked around but saw no one; I walked to the drawers and began looking for food.
Finally, a large double-door refrigerator was found. I'm not sure why, but seeing it dimpled my cheeks, and I dashed towards it.
It feels incredible when I touch it. These sorts of items were only seen in movies and publications, as well as famous residences on television shows. I never imagined seeing one in front of my eyes one day.
I gently opened it, fearful that anything would shatter because I was in this kitchen.
Everything is so branded and pricey.
Finally, I opened the refrigerator and was taken aback by what I saw: fresh pastries, freshly baked cakes, ripe avocados, delicious bread, and a plethora of other delicacies that I had only ever dreamed of seeing.
Finally, I took out a container of chocolate ice cream and a Coca-Cola bottle.
I sat in Indian style on the kitchen floor, eating ice cream with a drink.
Mr. Asshole Campbell, I wish you the beautiful home you have! You cold-hearted jerk, you could have that much wonderful heart as well.
You dumb stupid fool, I despise you.
How could he impose such ridiculous regulation on me? Will he dare to put me to bed on the floor? Is it necessary for me to give him a valuable life lesson?
But how am I going to do it? Then it strikes to me that I should show that guy that I am not lower to him. If he wants to inflict retribution on me, I will not remain silent or put up with it.
I've known how to put up with a lot since I was a kid. Enough is enough at this point.
Now I'm going to fight back. I am not a weak person.
Chapter 7
It's 9 p.m., and I'm sitting in this mansion's living room, doing nothing while staring at a giant TV in front of me, but nothing interesting is about to happen to keep me occupied.
Then I observed him, Adrian, heading somewhere in a casual grey shirt with blue trousers, his Greek god body visible even through the shirt, making me uneasy from the inside, he had the phone in his hand while talking to someone, making me nervous from the inside.
I moved closer to him, hoping to overhear his conversation and learn more about my brother, because I've never received Sarah's message about their condition, how they're doing, even if they're fine, since that day.
I searched the area till I spotted Celia.
"Celia, where did Adrian just go?" I inquired.
"Mr. Campbell, went to his study room," she said, and I nodded and followed Adrian to the upper floor of the mansion, where he was going to his study room. He went to his study room while I tiptoed behind him, hoping to hear what he was saying in the hope of learning more about my brother.
He comes to a halt near his table and turns around, and I stand there wide-eyed.
I gulped in horror as I saw his eyes darken as if they had Strom in them as he frowned at me.
I swallowed and gazed down with a straight mouth, trying to form a word.
He did nothing, and I could feel his eyes on me the entire time, like if he was about to burn me.
I wrapped my arms about myself and mumbled, "I....just want to know about my brother."
"Don't worry, just pray to God that your brother doesn't show his face to me or appear in front of me, otherwise I'll make his life a living hell," he added flatly, forcing me to look at him.
"So, this is what it means," I gulped.
"I won't do anything to your brother," he continued coldly, "so he better not show his face to me, or I'll forget that he has a pregnant girlfriend," I nodded in horror, knowing what he is capable of and can do to us just by looking at him.
"But you will pay for what your brother did," he fiercely yelled to me as I was about to walk away.
I nodded, my lips twitching and my lungs filling with air.
This appears to be written in my destiny; for most people, sadness is a natural part of life, but mine is filled with misery and will be spent in pain.
**************
Finally, I up the magnificent stairwell to His Bedroom, where I will sleep.
I don't have much here except to eat and sleep.
I was ready to walk over to that plush king-size bed when I realised the rules.
Sighing, I looked at the floor, which appeared to be very cold, but I ignored this fact and lay down on the cold floor of his bedroom without a mattress or duvet. I wanted to avenge him for forcing me to sleep on the floor, but it wasn't his fault.
I mean, it's my brother Ashton, who ran away with his Fiancé, and he's been deceived, and if I ever try to do anything against him, he might harm my brother as well, and I won't let that happen till I'm mortal, so I have to pay for my brother's actions.
I closed my eyes and tried to sleep; it's normal for me to sleep on a cold, hard floor; I'm used to it, so falling asleep was not a problem.
*****************
When the sun shone on my face, I slowly opened my eyes and yawned.
I eventually opened my sleepy eyes and the first thing I saw was the most handsome man I have ever seen, my so-called husband, wearing his Rolex watch while getting ready in his Grey Armani tuxedo, appearing so appealing, but I know the truth behind this attractive face, a devil in disguise.
He smirked and looked at me as soon as he saw I was awake.
I'm still sitting on the cold floor.
"Suit, for you," he said as he went through the drawers and removed his tie.
I grimaced in response to his remark.
"What do you mean?" I demanded angrily.
He stood in front of a mirror, wearing his tie, and said coldly, "I mean, a selfish gold digger is receiving the treatment she deserves."
I grimaced at the idea of him thinking for me.
But it's not all his fault; he's been deceived by my brother, and bad things have happened to him as well.
I stood up and walked towards him, looking down.
He was about to leave the room when I grabbed his hand and stopped him.
"I apologise," I said gently. "For what my brother did to you," I said, looking straight into his deep grey eyes. "But he loves her, and she loves him, even though they are expecting a baby together."
I believed I could persuade him, but his eyes darkened and his fists clenched.
While biting my lower lip and staring at him, I grasped the hem of my shirt.
He gets closer to me, causing me to back up, and then he grabs my arm and pulls it hard against my body, forcing me to gaze at him.
"To hell with your shit brother," he snarled at me, "but always remember you will be the one who pays for what he did; do you even know what controversy happened when I signed those documents to Winstons?"
Papers, I recall Sarah's father requesting Adrian's signature on some documents.
"I already ruined that Winston family; they are now bankrupt, and Daniel Winston will soon be behind bars on fraud charges," he stated, causing me to wobble to the ground.
"Now that you know what I did to those who dared to interfere with me, you should know your position."
He walked out of the room, taking a jab at me, and hollered,
My breathing is shallow and quick, and I'm leaning against the wall, closing my eyes and wishing it was all a dream; I can't take it any longer.

Chapter 8
"Please come to a stop," I took a deep breath and flung my hands up in the air, watching at the fifth cab speeding away down this road.
It's already 9:45 a.m., and I have to be in his presence by 10:00 a.m., or he'll ruin my life.
Emberly, you're not going to have a taxi here, so I'd best get going before I'm even more late.
So, I've chosen to run now; hiring a taxi from here would be pointless because I've already travelled half of the distance to his workplace by running behind cabs.
I instantly took out my phone to verify my current location; yeah, I'm only 15 minutes away from where I'm currently standing.
*******
I clutched my handbag closely as I gazed at a gorgeous and elegant tower, wondering if this was another Burj-Khalifa.
God, you are stunning and deserving of all praise.
I enter the house to find guests.
The company's interior was breathtakingly lovely.
Everything appears to be really lovely. the epitome of opulence
I took a step towards the receptionist.
She smiled pleasantly as she glanced at me.
"Hello," she continued, "how may I have been of assistance to you?"
Before I can finish, I have to say, "Um, I am....,"
"So you come, good," a girl's voice said from behind me.
I furrowed my brows and turned around to see a lovely woman in her mid-twenties with brown hair and dressed professionally in a work suit.
I tilt my head backwards, looking at her as she approaches.
"Come, let me take you to Mr.Campbell's office,"
"Come on," she murmured pleasantly, "let me take you to Mr. Campbell's office."
I gave her a friendly nod. As a way, he assigns her to find me.
We got into the elevator, and as I was putting my foot on the elevator's flooring and biting my lip, I felt a sudden heaviness in my chest; I had no idea what he has planned for me, but I am certain he will make my life a living hell here.
That girl shifted her gaze slightly towards me.
"By the way, my name is Nancy, and I'm Mr. Campbell's personal secretary," she continued, beaming at me, and I smiled back.
"Hello Nancy, my name is Emberly Campb.... " I suddenly pause, realising what I'm about to say; I can't tell her I'm Adrian's wife; I'm sure Adrian won't like it, and I don't want to be related to him anyway.
"Emberly Swan," I said, clearing my throat.
I had an empty sick feeling of my stomach as she nodded and the elevator stopped.
I stepped out of the elevator shakily, feeling my mouth dry, so I gulped and Nancy opened the glass door to his office, where I paused with a tiny gasp.
It's well beyond my words, so lovely, yet I noticed the enormous comfortable chair next his table is empty.
I felt all of the heaviness leave my body, and I expelled the breath I'd been holding for who knows how long.
I followed him into his office, my breath caught in my throat; everything in his office is so neatly arranged and well organised that it made me feel out of place; I was wearing one of the best clothes I owned; they are not mine; they are Deliah's used ones, but I can't afford to waste my money on new clothes, so I don't mind wearing her used ones; I was dressed simply in a light pink business formal suit with white sneakers, and I smiled as I looked down at my sneakers, which my brother Asher had given me on my birthday. This is the only item I own that was purchased new; the rest of my possessions are second-hand. I examined the certificates that hung on his office wall.
I'm secretly praising him; he may be a jerk to me, but I can't deny that he is a role model for people like me who want to pursue a career in business.
But, when I smelled his costly scent behind me, my smile faded.
I turn around but stop in the middle, but there's no point in hiding from him; sooner or later, I'll have to face him. When I finally turned around, my throat felt dry and my hands trembled badly.
His cold eyes came to a halt in front of me, and I swallowed, my legs twitching.
Nancy nodded and walked away as he turned to face her.
"Now listen, you won't tell anyone here that you're my wife, because I don't want anyone to know, and Nancy will tell you your work," he stated as he walked over to his enormous oak table and sat in a large comfy chair, sipping his coffee and perusing a stack of papers.
I nodded, glancing down, and then closed my eyes, suddenly terrified by this man; he is frightening me.
"Get out now," he bellowed, and I rushed out of his office, my whole body trembling, but I managed to hold back my tears.
I hurriedly approached the nearest washroom, ignoring the pity stares I was getting from others, and once inside, I swiftly locked the door and slid down, my throat feeling so dry and hurting so badly.
My hand was pressed over my mouth, sniffing any tears.
Did you forget to write happiness in my portion, dear God, why me all the time?
I can't do it any longer; I'm exhausted with it all.
I lingered there for a while, then went and headed to Nancy's cabin.
"Oh, nice you came, I was going to come for you," she says as she hands me three folders with a piece of paper on top of them.
"These are your responsibilities; you must complete them now,"
I brought that piece of paper home to read.
1.) You must bring Mr. Adrian Campbell's coffee and complete whatever tasks he may assign to you.
2.) You will alphabetize all of his company's papers and records.
I nodded at her while twitching my fingers and gazing around.
**************
"In my office, now," he said over the intercom, and I sprung from my desk and dashed over to his office.
My heart was hammering so loudly in my chest, and my chest felt so heavy.
I shakily dialled his office door's code, and it instantly opened.
"Yes sir," I stammered as I scratched my skin.
While reading something on his laptop screen, he looked up and remarked, "I want my black coffee, now in three minutes, no sugar."
"Right away, sir," I hurriedly responded as I exited his office.
But, my my goodness, where is the kitchen?
I dash over to Nasya's cabin.
I leaned on a door, my hand outstretched to stabilise myself.
She isn't present.
So, what am I going to do now?
He had already stated that he wanted his coffee in three minutes, and a lot of time had passed.
Please, God, help me.
How will I find the kitchen now that I've run out of her cabin?
I was strolling aimlessly when my arm was struck by something, causing me to swallow hard, but before I could collapse, someone grabbed my hand.
I take a deep breath and steady myself.
Finally, I looked up and saw a man about Adrian's age with sea-blue eyes staring at me.
I can feel the pink blush on his cheeks as he smiled. I had never seen a man blush before.
He scratched his neck and murmured, "Hey, hi."
"Thank you very much," I said, putting my hand on my chest and breathing loudly while looking at him.
"Why were you in such a hurry?" he inquired, tipping his head back.
"I was looking for a kitchen," I explained.
He cocked his head. "Oh, it's just to the left of here," he remarked, and I felt all the weight leave my chest, making me feel so light.
I grabbed his hand with both hands as swiftly as could. I smiled and hurried away, saying "thank you."
I pushed my lips together as I felt a burning feeling in my palm when the hot coffee spilled on my palm while I was taking it into his mug in the kitchen.
I went inside with trepidation and slid his coffee mug across the table.
I said quietly, "Your coffee, sir."
He's still reading papers, like if I didn't exist.
I desperately want to leave his office, but he hasn't dismissed me yet, so I nibble my cheek inside and glance around the hue of his office walls.
After a while, he took the coffee mug and drank a drink before throwing the entire coffee mug on the floor, leaving me wide-eyed.
When I heard the sound of his coffee mug shattering into bits, I flinched.
"What the heck is this, this coffee is too hot," I swallowed as he narrowed his eyes at me, "do you want to get punished now?" he asked.
My brows furrowed together as I shook my head.
I dashed over to his side, where the coffee mug had shattered, and quickly brought a tray to put these shards of glass on.
I began gathering broken glass pieces, but I bit my lower lip and swallowed hard when a piece of glass fell into my palm, but I remained silent.
Finally, I grabbed it and bolted from his office.
On the first day of work, I messed up everything.
