Chapter 2
. Do everything you can to find her.
SLUMBERLAND, IDAHO. 5:00pm
Logan's Point Of View ~~
Opulent chandeliers illuminated the grand dining room of the Michaelson's mansion. The entire family sat around the large table, which stretched for miles. Silence filled the air and the only sound that could be heard was the spoons clacking against their shiny porcelain surfaces. There were palatable cuisines topped on the table with fruits and expensive French wines.
“So, Vivian, how was your stay in Australia? I heard you plan on establishing your fashion house here in the United States,” my mom inquired, breaking the solitude with her gaze settling on Vivian.
Vivian beamed, feeling delightful.
With a nod, she replied, “Yes, Mrs. Judith, I did have a lot of projects back in Australia, but I left it because of Logan..”
Vivian held my hands which were on the table and I gulped down the lump in my throat. A tiny smile sprang on my face, but it vanished in an instant when my father's gaze met mine.
Seeing Vivian here didn’t please him.
He believes she is a spoiled, mannerless lady who prioritizes materialistic possessions over her love for me.
I’ll make him see that she genuinely loves me, despite his doubts about it being a deception. If only he knew the news I have for him. My decision to marry Vivian is final and unchangeable.
Besides, she was my ex-girlfriend. We dated for two years before she abandoned me to Australia to purchase her career as a designer.
My father remained quiet. His silence was louder than words for some reason. He chewed on his food silently, with his gaze on Vivian, who continued talking endlessly.
Mr. Gerald arranged my marriage to Emily since she had once saved his life. She was from a remote part of Texas. She has never talked about her family, but from what I've gathered, her parents died in an accident, leaving her as an orphan.
Basically, she has no family left.
Grandpa loved her so much that he made me marry her, but I can't keep being in a one-sided marriage. I have no interest or concern about her. She had no significance to me. She had no reputation, no status, and nothing to be proud of.
“Where is Emily? Isn't she going to join us for dinner?!” my father inquired, his baritone voice piercing the silence.
Sighing, I rolled my eyes and dropped the fork in my hand. “We're in the Middle of processing our divorce papers, dad. We'll get our divorce certificate later on.”
My father's brows shot up, his face clouded with shock and wrath as he dropped his goblet fiercely on the table..
“What do you mean, Logan?! Are you out of your mind?!” He asked, his voice demanding and commanding, resonating through the dining room.
My mother forced a smile on her face before turning to face my father. She placed her hand on his shoulder and mumbled, “Sweetheart. As I previously mentioned, Emily and Logan aren't a good fit, but your father had them get married. This kept Emily's expectations up, but Logan had to break things off because he wasn't interested in her.”
“What good is it to keep up a loveless marriage? Emily hasn't been happy because she wasn't able to get my affection and attention during our four years of marriage. We can't continue with it and I'm done. That's final!” Using my serviette to dab at my lips, I spoke with confidence.
My father placed his utensils on his plate and took a deep breath. “Emily is one of a kind. She's perfect and loving. Do you realize you just threw something valuable to settle for less?!!” He yelled, pointing at Vivian, whose eyes were getting teary as his words pierced her heart.
The tension hung in the air, and his words clogged in my throat. Seeing Vivian's reaction propelled me to confront my father. I can't stand to see her cry..
“There is nothing you can do regarding this issue, dad. It's my life and I f**g own it! Vivian is more than gold to me. She's everything I'll ever need and not Emily!! I'll be getting married to her and that's my final decision!”
“Marriage isn't a child's play, son…” my dad snapped, his voice tinted with conviction. He might be more experienced than me, but he knows nothing about love.
He can't f**g make decisions for me. I have the say to everything regarding my decisions and not him!
My elder brother was quiet the whole time. All he did was watch the drama unfolding as he chewed on his food.
“So, you're divorcing Emily because Vivian is back? And because Sir Gerald is dead?!”
Staring at him straight in the eye, I replied defiantly, “Not because Sir Gerald is dead. But because the love of my life is back.. I will be announcing our marriage soon and you're mostly invited, dad.”
I glanced at Vivian, who was looking at me with so much happiness in her eyes. She was proud of me for standing up for our relationship and confronting my father.
The dinner ended with my father being disappointed in me. He got on his feet, not having the appetite to eat anymore, as there was still a large portion of food left on his plate. He grabbed his serviette to wipe his mouth, his gaze flicking between me and Vivian.
With a sneer, he said, “I hope you won't regret the decision you made today, son.”
He left and the sounds from his shoe clacking the tiles became distinct after some minutes. His words rang in my head, hanging like a cloud above it. My heart plummeted down to my stomach and I had no clue why his last statement felt heavy and disturbing. Vivian is all I need. I can never regret making this decision.. I'm sure of it..
“Babe.. Will you drop me off at home now that we're done?” Vivian asked, stroking my cheeks affectionately.
I nodded, and she leaned forward to peck me.
“Babe, I want you to drop me off in your latest Rolls-Royce car. I want my friends to see how rich my fiance is,..” She looked at me with big doe eyes and beamed joyfully, her teeth displaying in her smile.
My thoughts felt disjointed for some reason, yet in an attempt to gather myself, I tried pushing them aside.
After dropping Vivian off at her apartment, I returned to the house, and those thoughts came flooding in again. Why do I feel empty after Emily left? Why am I feeling disturbed?
A maid scurried towards me with worry crossing her features.
“Mr Logan! Mrs Emily left. She was crying profusely but didn't take any of her loads with her!”
“What?!” I asked with a dropped jaw since I had inquired for the maids to help her with her belongings.
"A young man in a fancy limousine car picked her up,"
My eyes grew as big as saucers as her words resonated in my mind. Nobody on the planet could pick Emily in a pricey vehicle like a limousine.
“Did you see the plate number?!”
“Yes. Mr Logan..”
“Okay.” I called my secretary right away and asked him to find the person using the plate number the maid gave me.
Out of curiosity, I ordered him to dig about Emily's relationship with the person who fetched her
“And .. this, sir. She left behind,” the maid mumbled, giving me the divorce papers in her hand.
When I noticed that she had signed it, my eyes widened. I was meant to feel content, but I felt inexplicably enraged and jealous. . How dare she sign it?!!
My gut told me that the owner of the vehicle was a wealthy man. Being her second choice, she must have signed it to leave me for him.. Who knows if she had been dating him while pretending to make things work in our marriage?. My wrath boiled at her conduct of leaping from one man to another. She is shameless!
I never knew she was a gold digger! Vivian's suspicions about her were right after all…
Just then, my phone chimed, interrupting my reverie as it alerted me to an incoming call.
“What is it, Mark?!” I asked my secretary hurriedly, sinking my fingers into my hair before letting out a sigh of exhaustion.
"Mr. Logan, I discovered who was the car's owner. Robert Gills, the President of Imperial Holdings, was the owner. I have learned through research that he took Mrs. Emily to the hospital.”
My brows furrowed and my hands tightened around the phone as I became enraged at the information. Emily is nothing more than a gold-digger and a whore.
“The hospital declined to provide the personal data of their patients. However, my reliable source claims that Mrs. Emily underwent a surgery. Mr. Logan, it seems to me that she is pregnant.”
With that revelation dropping like a bombshell, my hands fell to my laps and my eyebrows sprang upward. His statement hit me like waves. Realization hit me and I recalled how blood had dripped down her thighs that day. After that day, I hadn't seen her until the maid brought the news of her signed divorce papers.
Could Emily really be pregnant?...
“Sir Logan. I'll find more information regarding them..For now, this is all I can say.”
Gritting my teeth, I ordered, “Find her. Do everything you can to find her. I want her back!!”
Chapter 3
. New found status.
Five years later ~~ NEW YORK CITY 10:12am.
Emily’s Point Of View ~
The Gills family has lived on the Gills Estate in New York for many years. The park remained accessible for opulent and powerful people like us. Our penthouse was one of the largest in the city; A famous iconic structure that seemed incredibly worthy of being possessed by one of the richest people in the city.
With a delicate ruby lip, I smiled as I got out of my car and made my way towards the luxurious building. I haven’t spent time with my foster family in such a long time. Anticipation washed over me as I pictured how they’d react once he saw me.
The double giant doors split and two maids in uniforms flashed me warm, welcoming smiles.
They were thrilled to see me again, and I could see the enthusiasm on their faces. I removed my shades and my heels clacked on the tiles as I made my way into the large sitting room.
“Welcome back, Emerald!” With great excitement, my sister Ursula put her arms around me and gave me a firm squeeze.
I tried to catch my breath after she released me from her hug.
“Sorry..” she mumbled, smiling from ear to ear.
“I’m so glad to see you at last. I feared you wouldn’t leave Paris after spending so much time there,” Ursula taunted, making me smile even wider.
The entire room turned to listen to the sound of someone clearing their throats behind them.
I whipped my head to the left and my face lit as soon as I locked eyes with my brother, Roberts.
He was a few feet away from us, looking dashing in his military uniform with a stony countenance on his face. He hardly smiles, and it did not bother me. Strolling towards him, I enveloped him in a hug. He hadn’t changed much. He remained cold and ballistic.
“Good to have you back, Emily,” He said, and I creased my brows as I looked up to face him.
The naïve Emily I was before leaving Logan has become someone else. I no longer go by the name Emily, but Emerald.
I was no longer the naive Emily who would grovel at his feet and beg for the attention of a worthless jerk while enduring his insults. It's been a long time since anyone called me by my birth name, Emily, a name I was trying to bury.
“I’ve told you several times to stop calling me that. I'm Emerald, Roberts!” I corrected Robert, and for the first time in years, I saw him smile.
“Emerald doesn’t want to be reminded of the past, Robert. It’s obvious the name Emily irks her because it reminds her of her healed scars and buried memories. You don’t want those memories to resurface and those scars to bleed again, do you?”
Ursula taunted Roberts, supporting my words. She was right, after all. Since Logan threw me out of his home, I made a vow never to see him again. I returned to my foster family here in New York.. The ones who were there for me through thick and thin. They welcomed me warmly when I returned home, but eventually I took a flight to Paris in order to fulfill one of my greatest ambitions: becoming a jeweler.
Throughout my year there, I created a variety of exquisite jewelry and crafts, which has brought me a great deal of notoriety.
“Where is your father?” Given that my father wasn’t feeling well, I requested.
I had to leave Paris immediately after learning about his condition. Even after receiving a cancer diagnosis, my father continued to oversee the company, and nobody in the firm realized that he had been ill the entire time, working tirelessly despite facing a grave disease.
“Emerald, he’s not getting better.” Ursula revealed a melancholic grin pricking her lips.
As I walked into his room, a few coughs greeted me.
“Father…” I mumbled as I perched beside him on the bed. Tears trickled down my cheeks when I witnessed him in such a condition.
I haven’t seen him in a long time. While I was in Paris, I frequently paid them a visit here in the States, but I never stayed for long.
Dad has been managing our company here with the help of my brother, Roberts. They made Roberts the president of the imperial holdings, but his military work doesn’t give him enough time for it.
Ursula, on the other hand, is a flight attendant and the nature of her job doesn’t give her time to assist father at the company as well. Now I feel bad that we left dad to handle all the responsibilities.
“Dad, I’m sorry. I have no clue that you were ill,” I said as I threw my arms around him. He caressed my cheeks and pinched my pointed nose playfully.
“You’re not interested in returning to us. Your son has been eager to see you as well. You are aware of how much he misses you.” I felt bad as I nodded in response to my dad’s mumbling.
Dad was aware that I had thrown away my life for a man who did not give a damn about my well-being. I kept my foster family at a distance because I was so infatuated with Logan, something I now regret greatly.
“You reverted to your old self since Mr. Logan crushed your heart. An arrogant, bitchy, and vicious Emerald.”
“Dad.. I don’t want to be reminded of that idiot!” I snapped, pouting my lips while he chuckled and ended up coughing non-endlessly.
“Sorry dad..”
“How about you stay here in the States with us? You need to build a cordial relationship with your son because he misses you so badly during your travels. I know you’ve finally achieved your dreams of being a jeweler and I’m proud of you. I’m no longer in a fit state, Emerald. My life will take a drastic change anytime from now. I don’t feel as well as I once did.”
“Dad, you’ll be alright. Don’t say that, please. I will ensure that I give you the best care possible.
He held my hands and flashed me a warm smile.
Carl, my son, showed up in the room with Roberts and Ursula. My face lit up as I saw my son. With delight, my five-year-old son scampered over to me, and I knelt down to his level to hug him. Tears welled up in my eyes as I showered him with kisses.
“I’ve missed you a lot mom, please don’t leave me behind again. Grandpa has been taking good care of me and now he’s ill. I Don’t like staying with the nannies. I want you to take care of me, mom..” He implored, staring at me with large doe eyes that sparkled like there were hidden stars in it.
“Mom has come to stay. Okay.. I won’t leave for Paris again..” I replied, giving him a last kiss on the cheek.
“Emerald,” my dad stated, breaking the silence that had ensued.
“Why don’t you manage our jewelry company? Your late mother started it, and I’ve been running it since she passed. The company has thrived, but my health no longer permits me to lead it. I trust your abilities. Your success as a designer, especially through your collaboration with the renowned Parisian jeweler, shows you have the talent. Why not bring those skills to our company?”
“Roberts can no longer function as the president because of his military work, and Ursula is a flight attendant. She will relocate to Australia soon with her family. You’re the capable one to handle this business, Emerald.”
Dad announced, and I took a deep breath, absorbing his words. He was right; people often called me the goddess of design because of my exceptional skills. Observing my dad's leadership of the jewelry company, I decided to move to France to collaborate with the world’s greatest jeweler and learn the art of jewelry making.
He has consistently supported me over the years. When I was a teenager, he and Mom adopted me, and Robert and Ursula have always treated me like their own sibling.
The Gills were a prominent family in New York City, though not everyone knows I am part of it. They are a high-profile, respected family owning one of the best jewel companies in the States.
Since its establishment, the Imperial Company has earned a reputation for its iconic jewel designs.
The majority of our jewels are millions of dollars’ worth and are crafted mostly from pure gold, diamonds, and gemstones. Since I’ve gained more understanding about jewelry creation in France, I wouldn’t contest my suitability for the position of the company's manager.
“Our company has had several requests for a partnership from many other companies. Among them was the M&M company owned by Sir Logan. His proposal has not been authorized since I intend to appoint you as the new manager. What do you say?”
My eyes widened when my dad asked, and I was stunned by the mention of Logan’s name.
I couldn’t respond because I was too dazed.
Just then, Roberts held my shoulders and said, “You’ll benefit much from this offer, Emerald. Don’t let this chance pass you by. If God permits, utilize your power against those who have harmed you and dared go against your way, Emerald. Take the Michaelson family for an illustration.”
The words Robert spoke resonated deeply within me. Rage shot through me as I thought of getting even with my ex-husband. I have made a self-promise to exact retribution on my wrongdoers. As I watch them fail, I want them to bow down before me and acknowledge their errors . I want justice for the pain Logan caused me, both physically and mentally.
“I didn’t ask you to interfere in this, Roberts. I’m only giving her this position because she’s well suited to the post and not because of some revenge scheme.” My dad said to Roberts before turning to face me.
“What do you say, Emerald? Do you accept it?!”
My dad asked, and I breathed deeply before responding, “Yes. I accept it…”
“There is an auction you need to attend, emerald. The jewelry industry hosts an annual event to honor designs created by elite brands, and we’re honored to be one of them. If not for my health, I would have been delighted to go. I’ll let everyone know that you are now the official chairwoman of our organization,
“I want you to represent the imperial company at the auction and I want you to disclose your identity as the New chairwoman to them,” my father disclosed, and my eyes sprang wide like saucers.
Wow! That was quick… I wasn’t expecting it.
“Where will the event take place and when?”
“Next month at the Mariano empire, Emerald. Hilda, my secretary, will forward all the details to you via email.”
“Okay..thanks dad. I’ll do my best to make you proud.”
“I trust you, Emerald..”
Leaving for my room, I called the secretary, Hilda, and asked her to forward the list of those that will be attending the event. She forwarded it after a short while, and when I saw the Michaelson family among them, a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips..
Can’t wait to see you this time around, Logan…. Indeed, revenge is best served cold.
Chapter 4
. She strikes back.
NEW YORK CITY–. MARINO EMPIRE.
Logan’s Point Of View ~
The grand elite auction would commence anytime from now. Alighting from my car, I glanced at my wristwatch to check the time. I will finally have the chance to meet the new CEO of the Imperial Company at this gathering today. I’ve approached them about partnering, but they haven’t accepted my offer. Given the excellent standing of my company and my stellar reputation, I anticipate that they will accept my offer right away.
A forced grin tugged at my lips as I cast a glance at the gigantic Marino Empire which towered over the other buildings beside it. Parts of the building had gold plaster applied to them, and the walls were composed of sturdy glass. The courtyard was lined with posh, expensive cars, and there were uniformed guards stationed at strategic locations like statues. The entire place screamed wealth as only highly reputable people visited it..
“Logan, you must get me that Hope diamond at the auction today. I’ve been craving to have that for years..” Vivian chirped happily as she held my outstretched hands and alighted from the car. I smiled at her, not giving her a reply.
Together, we made our way into the opulent hall as confidently as possible. Vivan kept walking at a slow pace on the red carpet, careful not to trip on her three-inch black stilettos. Vibrant lights bathed the entrance in a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of colors, reflecting the pulsating energy that emanated from within. Live music instantly spilled through the silent hallway and we darted our eyes at every smiling face in the hall.
Paparazzi swarm around us to take several shots of us. I’m not shocked to see that our entrance had garnered so much attention, all thanks to my reputation and popularity in the business sector. My company manufactures one of the greatest male accessories. I also own one of the best fashion houses in the city. Partnering with a top elite company like Imperial will broaden my horizon and help my business scopes.
As we made our way to our seat, Vivian tapped me and squealed excitingly.
“What is it?” I asked with raised brows.
“Logan, that’s the Hope diamond necklace. Take a look at it shining in its own brilliance inside that box. I want you to be the highest bidder, Logan. it mustn’t belong to someone else,” she added, and I shifted my gaze to the huge glass box which contained the necklace, one of the classiest and expensive necklaces in the world.
It was a highly anticipated jewelry and I know that a number of people are vying for it today. Everything about the jewelry speaks quality. It was a deep blue diamond, stubbed in a pendant, Toison d’or with a dark grayish blue color under ordinary light because of trace amounts of boron within its crystal structure. It’s definitely f**g expensive, but I’ll try to get it to make Vivian happy.
“Heard there’s a notable guest tonight..” Martin, my friend, spoke after swilling some wine.
“Who?” I asked curiously.
“The new CEO of imperial holdings. I heard she will be joining the auction tonight..”
My face brightened up with enthusiasm at what he said. I had been eagerly anticipating this moment as well. Glancing at several elite people in the hall, I smiled confidently as I straightened my suit, giving an air of perfection.
As soon as the host came out from backstage, the auction began.
“Please take note that St. Hopkins Hospital and orphanage home will receive half of the proceeds from this auction, naturally with the presence of Dr. Henry Norman, the current director.”
The high-pitched voice of a woman wearing a crimson gown and golden jewelry echoed across the hall as she grabbed the microphone. She gave the microphone to the event’s MC, a man dressed in a white suit.
The auction began with the display of certain jewelries, which shimmered in their own uniqueness. First was the Golden gem.. a type of jewelry that appears to have been crafted from a combination of gold and gem. Bidding started at $300,000 and went up to $800,000. The bidding went on until a thin man wearing blazers paid a million dollars for it.
“Alright! This is the next one! The first bid is for $500,000“Alright! The next one is this! The bidding starts at $500,000!” The MC announced, grabbing our attention to the silvery jewelry in his hand..
Each piece was brought outside one by one. Each recipient of an auction object is required to sign an ownership and contract at the administration office. A few more objects were on show, and my friend Martin acquired an antique Leonardo da Vinci picture for himself.
When the last piece arrived after considerable bidding, everyone started to pay attention. The big glossy box with the Hope diamond necklace within captured our whole attention. Many have not placed a bid yet, as they are holding out to bid on the last item of jewelry. The Hope diamond necklace.
It reminded me of how pricey it was as it glistened in my eyes.. I gulped down the lump in my throat as Vivian clutched my arm.
“Come on, Logan. We can’t let this go. We won’t lose it to someone else, right?” The smile on her face exceeded her ears. Her smile vanished as soon as she saw I was silent.
I took a deep breath and replied, “Yes. I will get it for you..”..
“Okay.. For the Hope diamond necklace, the price begins at a million dollars!” The MC announced and my heart plummeted to my stomach. A million dollars for a start made me cringe. It’s definitely going to be competitive since there are a lot of bidders wanting to get it.
“$1.2 million dollars!”
“$1.5 million dollars!” A fat man with beards yelled as he got on his feet, darting his eyes at every face to see if anyone would challenge him.
“$2 million dollars!” Another voice erupted in the audience.
“Going! Going—”
“$4 million dollars!” I exclaimed as I got on my feet while Vivian squealed happily, trying to contain her excitement.
My face beamed with pride when I see no one else challenging me.
“$8 Million Dollars!” a young Italian man exclaimed, smirking as he got on his feet, causing the audience to release audible gasps. Vivian bit her lips as she glanced at me, wanting me to challenge him.
As the bid arose, I didn’t stop. We were halfway getting it and the only competitor I had was Mr Vincenzo, a famous designer in Italy and the US.
Vincenzo’s gaze lingered on mine, and a smirk pulled at the sides of his lips.
“$15 million dollars!” He announced.
Vivian held my hands, her eyes widening like saucers. “Don’t let it go away, Logan. I need this badly..” she implored, shifting her gaze to the sparkling diamond necklace.
“$20 million!” I said with a confident smile, my eyes shimmering with an undiluted pride.
People gasped, and I saw Martin’s eyes sprang wide. Vivian bit her lips, staring at Vincenzo with so much attention. She was inwardly praying for him to give up. It was purely evident in her face.
“$20 million dollars! Going! Going!” The MC announced, staring at the audience.
Vincenzo made the surrender sign by keeping his hand in his pocket. At that, Vincenzo returned to his seat, and Vivian got up to hug me.
“I know you will do this. I know you’ll surely make me proud, Logan. I love you!”
“We have a winner for tonight, then. The precious Hope diamond necklace worn by the Great Queen Elizabeth goes to—-”
“$100 million dollars!!” a voice erupted from behind, grabbing everyone’s attention. Loud gasps filled the entire hall and my brows creased as I whipped my head in the direction of the voice.
My gaze settled on a lady cladded in an exceptionally white, pristine suit that did justice to the well-endowed curves of her body. A smirk appeared on her ruby lips as soon as she locked eyes with me. Her every stride in those white pointy heels exuded poise and remarkable confidence that had the hairs on my skin rising. She walked calmly to the podium, her heels clacking on the white tiles of the stage.
“--- is now sold to the lady in White! Let us celebrate her!” The MC announced before giving her a handshake.
I stood still, my eyes wide as I took in her appearance. Her gaze lingered on mine and I felt my heart racing and thudding frantically against my ribcage.
My body froze in a position, unable to move, react, or even escape eye contact.
This is none other than Emily. Her gaze intensified, confirming my suspicions.
Standing before me was the one person I thought I'd never see again. She appeared so stunning and exceedingly beautiful. Everything about her exuded wealth. Her smile was captivating, her presence was magnetic, and her words exuded elegance.
My eyes were fixed on hers, but she tried not to acknowledge them as she averted them away from me. It's like she's consumed every corner in my mind. I couldn't avoid replaying our past encounters and the unresolved tension that clung between us.
The MC grabbed the mic and said, “Like I mentioned earlier, there will be a special guest tonight. We’re aware that her shocking entrance bawled our lungs out. No one expected that she’d be a part of the bidders. I’ll give her a moment to introduce herself. Let’s clap our hands as she prepares to give her speech.”
My heart dropped to my stomach when she revealed her identity as the New CEO of the imperial company. I snagged my fingers into my hair, finding it unbelievable. My mind feels like it is stricken and my heart is pounding like a tsunami.
Emily became a CEO of a very famous jewel company.. Damn! Am I dreaming?!
“Logan.. this.. this is Emily. She’s back! But how and when did she become rich?!” Vivian asked, staring at me with wide eyes. My heart raced and my gaze lingered on Emily as she left the stage after her speech. I was completely confused and restless. She even had her name changed to Emerald.
My worst fears came when I saw Collin, my business rival, walking up to Emily. He kissed her and clutched her hands passionately, causing my heart to drop to my stomach.
I gulped down the lump in my throat and my eyes went round like saucers.
Are they dating? How long had Emily known Collins?! How did she become the CEO of the imperial company??
I balled my fists and gritted my teeth, my mind was tense at the moment. It was like a silent conversation with myself, avoiding the inevitable question that needed to be addressed.
Shit! This is crazy! This is damn crazy!
“According to legible sources…these two are dating, Mr. Logan. I just confirmed from the internet,” Martin whispered in my ears and I stared at the pictures with conflicted emotions on my face. I was unsure of my feelings—angry, jealous, guilty, or unhappy.
Grabbing my phone out of my pocket, I called my secretary and said, “Find everything about Emily’s life for the last five years.”
