Chapter 6

The man did not want to speak any further with Kiara. He rushed at her, forced her onto the floor, and roughly pulled at her clothing.

Shame covered Kiara's body. She bit down hard on the base of her tongue, ready to take her own life.

Just as she was about to end her life, a man appeared from the light and knocked those men aside with one kick. “What are you doing?!”

He moved closer, kicked the bodyguards away, removed his jacket, and placed it over her.

Kiara shook without control. The man spoke softly, “Don’t be scared. Your adoptive father sent me to bring you home. My name is Santino Riley.”

Her eyes turned red as she asked, “Are you the one father sent?”

He nodded and replied, “Yes, I’m the one your adoptive father sent. I did not expect this group of people to dare treat you like this.”

Kiara slowly settled down. “Can you help me up?”

She had been too frightened, and her body felt weak, so she could not stand.

Finally, Santino lowered himself and picked her up.

His people held down those men. “How do you wish to handle them?”

The men who had tried to violate Kiara just before quickly fell to their knees and begged for mercy.

“Miss Chavez, we made a mistake. Dorothy instructed us. Please forgive us.”

Kiara looked at them coldly. She showed no mercy and no kindness.

“Dorothy is not decent, and you are even worse. None of you should even think about escaping.”

“Help me take them to the police station. I want to call the police. All of them must pay for this.”

Santino gently waved his hand and had his men bring them away.

Kiara faced the direction of the Craig family. The love in her eyes faded fully, leaving only hatred.

“My score with the Craig family, I will clear it slowly.”

Santino said, “Since you plan to deal with it slowly, you should first take some interest.”

“I heard the house you stay in now is registered in your name?”

Kiara said, “Yes, that was the marriage present he gave me before.”

A faint smile showed on Santino’s face. “Since it belongs to you, and you’ve already walked away, why should they stay there?”

He waved and called a few men over. “Go tear down that villa.”

Kiara felt shocked. She didn’t think Santino would move so fast and so directly.

Still, destroying it was fine. That awful man and that shameless woman didn’t deserve to remain in her home.

An hour later, Santino brought Kiara to wait for the plane.

Before getting on the plane, Kiara put on a fresh outfit and tossed her mobile into a trash bin, not taking it along.

Everything here she wanted to cut off cleanly, not taking a single bit away.

‘Hugo, clean your neck and wait for me.’

..…

During that night, the Craig family home rose to the top of searches after it was blown up.

Thankfully, there were no people inside at that moment, so there were no injuries for now.

Hugo was at the office holding a meeting with top managers when he got a flood of messages from Dorothy.

Hugo called off the meeting and hurried to see Dorothy.

Because the house had been blown apart, Dorothy was living in a hotel.

When the man walked into the room, Dorothy cried and rushed forward to hold him.

“Brother Hugo, I have no idea who ruined our home. I was nearly scared to death. If I had not gotten out in time, you would never see me again.”

Her tears fell like petals in the rain, making his heart grow soft.

Hugo held her close and comforted her in a gentle voice. “It’s alright. With me beside you from now on, no one will hurt you.”

“I will investigate this issue carefully. For the time being, stay here. I will book all the presidential suites above. You can stay within the top floor area. After I have my assistant search for a few nice houses, we will move there.”

Dorothy nodded and then spoke, “Brother Hugo, can you also arrange one unit for me?”

For Hugo, a house was not much trouble, but for some reason, when he heard those words, he did not feel comfortable.

It was as if a sound inside his chest kept telling him: if it were Kiara, she wouldn’t ask in such a plain way.

He considered it seriously. During all these years, Kiara had never once asked him for anything on her own.

Either he pushed things onto her, and she accepted them quietly.

She had never opened her lips to request…

When Hugo didn’t speak, Dorothy felt a bit unsure and joked lightly. “Brother Hugo, you don’t need to feel pressured. I just said it for fun. As long as I’m beside you, I’m already satisfied. As for those outside matters, I don’t care much.”

Even though Dorothy spoke that way, Hugo still didn’t feel at ease inside.

Hugo said, “It’s only a house. Tomorrow I’ll let the assistant take you to see some homes. Pick the one you like and swipe straight away.”

When he finished, he gave her a black card.

It was his additional card. He had earlier given one to Kiara; this one now went to Dorothy.

The moment Dorothy noticed the black card, her eyes brightened. “Brother Hugo, thanks. I knew you would treat me the best.”

She often said words like this, but this time they didn’t make him feel good.

In the end, Hugo said the company still had work at night, and he had to return to handle overtime, then he left.

Dorothy didn’t say anything.

If it were Kiara, she would say not to stay up late, that it was bad for the body.

She used to repeat that in his ear many times, and he felt bothered then.

Now, no one said it, but he felt somewhat strange instead.

It felt like only when a person cared would they keep worrying and talking nonstop.

If they didn’t care, they wouldn’t even raise a question.

That evening, Hugo headed to a bar and invited several buddies to drink and drown his sadness.

From the start until the end, he kept drinking one cup after another.

Everyone feared that if he didn’t stop, something might happen, so they hurried to block him.

“Brother Hugo, don’t treat alcohol like water. If anything happens, Sister Kiara won’t let us go.”

Hugo brushed them off and whispered to himself, “She won’t. Kiara won’t search for you anymore.”

Everyone was shocked and watched Hugo anxiously. “Brother Hugo, you didn’t do anything bad to Sister Kiara because of Dorothy, did you?”

Hugo’s eyes turned red. “She hurt Dorothy and caused the baby to miscarry. I had her locked up so she could learn some discipline.”

The moment he finished, everything turned silent.

In the past, they had all supported Hugo; now none of them spoke.

Seeing them keep silent, Hugo frowned and asked, “Why don’t you speak?”

In the end, one person dared to speak the truth. “Brother Hugo, you and Sister Kiara endured hard times together. Who didn’t envy your love before? But now you keep harming Sister Kiara for that woman, and you even plan to send her to prison. Aren’t you afraid that one day Sister Kiara will be completely hurt and won’t ever come back?”

Hugo stayed in thought for a long time, biting his lip lightly. “She won’t. She loves me too much. She won’t really leave.”

Everyone could keep watching, and shattered his false belief.

“Brother Hugo, you’re going to lock Sister Kiara up. How do you think she’ll love you?”

“Think about it yourself. If you changed places with her, would you still feel fine?”

Hugo felt more restless inside, but he wouldn’t admit he was wrong.

“She did the wrong thing first. I am just upholding justice.”

Yet in the next moment, his friend’s words crushed his shield.

“Brother Hugo, are you sure you’re protecting fairness? How do you know Dorothy didn’t trick you?”

“As far as I know, Dorothy doesn’t look pregnant. Some days ago, she even went to check women’s health issues, because my wife happened to be the doctor who saw her.”

“But Dorothy has never seen me, and she won’t know that the doctor is my wife.”

Suddenly, Hugo’s heart trembled deeply.

“Call your wife now and ask about Dorothy’s condition.”

Even though this matter went against professional ethics, for his brother, he wouldn’t back down, even if it meant danger.

He dialed the number and asked, “Wife, do you recall telling me a few days back that Brother Hugo’s new girlfriend went to see you? What problem did she check at that time?”

Once she heard this, the woman on the other end scolded loudly. “What new girlfriend? She’s just a mistress. You men, aren’t that good. Once you’ve got cash, you start messing around outside.”

“I’m warning you, if you dare follow Hugo and keep another woman outside, the two of us will divorce!”

He lowered his head, moved to the side with the phone, and said quietly, “Wife, I’m outside right now. Can’t you save some face for me? You’re making it awkward for me.”

The man kept promising he wouldn’t betray her and coaxed her for quite a while before the woman doctor finally spoke.

“Dorothy came to see me for a gynecological problem. She said she hadn’t gotten her period for two months and wanted to check if she was pregnant. But I examined her uterine lining, and it was only 5mm. With a lining that thin, she couldn’t be pregnant.”

“In the end, it was confirmed as polycystic syndrome. I gave her some medicine and told her to take it regularly after going home.”

Hugo’s mind buzzed.

He grabbed the phone from the man and asked with a shaking voice, “So you mean Dorothy isn’t pregnant?”
