Chapter 1
My boyfriend had a bestie.
There was a rainstorm warning, so I called Brad and asked him to pick me up from get off work.
The first thing he said when he answered the phone was, “It’s not safe for Sophie to stay in that rental house in this weather. I’ll go check on her. You can go back home after get off work and pay attention to your own safety.”
I was stunned for a few seconds and when I wanted to speak, I found that he had hung up the phone.
Late at night, Brad’s best friend, Sophie, posted a message on an Instagram story.
In the photo, Brad was shirtless and wearing big pants and Sophie had his arms around his neck.
The caption was: [Sure enough, friends are more reliable than boyfriends, I will depend on you for the rest of my life!]
I then commented below: [Gift to you]
——
Two days after the storm, he had already started working normally. Only then did Brad think of contacting me, his girlfriend.
When I called, the first thing he said was, “Tamara, why did you ignore me?”
“Because I want to break up!”
I said calmly, hung up the phone and blocked the number.
When I got home from get off work, I found Brad sitting on the sofa with a gloomy look on his face.
I ignored him and went straight into the bedroom, taking a change of clothes and preparing to go to the bathroom to take a shower.
“Tamara, stop!”
Brad called me.
“Is something wrong?” I glanced at him.
“I’m hungry, you should cook first!”
I was a little speechless and said, “Do you think of this as a hotel or a snack bar? Didn’t your bestie feed you enough?”
Brad looked at me with an unhappy face and said, “Tamara, what are you angry about? That’s Sophie, my friend since childhood and it’s not someone else. Why are you jealous?”
He continued, “A little girl came here from my hometown to work. She only knows me here. The storm was very scary that day. She is timid. What’s wrong with me accompanying her? When did you become so selfish? Sometimes you have to think about others!”
“Oh! Think about others, you said? There are so many people outside in the rain and so many people at home. Why don’t you help others? I am also alone in this city and you are still my boyfriend. Why don’t you help me?”
After saying this, I turned and entered the bathroom.
Brad stared at me speechless.
After taking a shower, Brad handed over a pile of clothes.
In a matter-of-fact manner, he said, “Tamara, these are the clothes for the past two days. The washing machine at Sophie’s house is broken, so I will take the clothes back. Sophie has two pieces that need to be washed by hand. Don’t put them with the others, otherwise it will be stained easily and there is also an underwear…”
I pointed at the clothes, frowned and interrupted him, “Wait a minute, what do you mean, you want me to wash it?”
“Yes, what is wrong with that?”
“Are you crazy?”
“It’s just a few clothes, Tamara. What’s wrong with you?”
Brad became impatient at first.
I stretched out my hand to stop him and said, “First, I am not your nanny. Second, you and I are not married yet. Even if we are married, I have no obligation to wash clothes for you and her. Third, I told you that I broke up with you, so get out!”
Brad and I were together in our sophomore year. After graduation, we began a year-long long-distance relationship, meeting twice a month.
Long-distance relationships were very difficult. When I needed him, he was not by my side.
Every time I saw my colleagues and friends around me, they were in pairs and that was when I missed him the most.
Friends said that long-distance relationships were the easiest to break up and I was also afraid that he wouldn’t be able to bear the loneliness and be with someone else.
Just when I was in a dilemma whether to leave here to find him or continue to another place, he left his work there and came to me desperately.
The moment I was held in his arms, I really loved him.
I knew he loved me too.
He came over suddenly and didn’t have time to rent a house, so he moved into my small rental house.
We also started living together.
Just half a year into the sweet life, his childhood friend came over.
I still remembered the day Brad took me to see Sophie. As soon as we entered the door, Sophie jumped on him and lay on his back.
Brad held her butt very skillfully and even hugged her tightly.
I was shocked, how could this be like this? No matter how good the relationship was, there should be differences between men and women. They were not children anymore.
The whole private room was filled with friends of Brad and Sophie.
They sat together eating and drinking, talking about their childhood.
Speaking of getting excited, Sophie put his arms around Brad’s neck and pulled him hard into his arms.
Brad struggled to reach out to her armpits, waist and abdomen, scratching her itchy flesh.
The two fell on the sofa and made a fuss and everyone else laughed too.
I didn’t even look at him, so I could only smile awkwardly and pat his back. “Brad, Sophie is a girl. Please be careful and don’t press down on this little girl. Get up quickly.”
Brad listened to me and stood up directly. “She saved you this time, otherwise I would not have spared you lightly.”
Unexpectedly, Sophie got up, tidied her clothes and stared at me with a dissatisfied look on her face, “Tamara, you are nosy. Brad and I have been like this since we were young. We also agreed at the time that if I were 30 years old, he would marry me. We are just joking.”
I looked at Brad and asked him with my eyes.
Brad held my hand and laughed. “Sophie, when did that happen? I have Tamara now and you are no longer a child. Find someone quickly, otherwise your skin will sag and you won’t feel it when you touch it. Who would want you!”
“Whose skin is sagging and whose hands feel bad? Come and touch it to see if my hand feels good.”
“Then I’ll touch you, don’t run away!”
When I looked at these two people and listened to these words, I felt that my outlook was ruined.
What was their relationship? Were they really just friends?
How could any friendship be like this? She was still a girl.
And his friends seemed to be used to it.
Chapter 2
After I went back that time, I warned Brad and told him to be careful and have a sense of boundaries.
He promised well and his true colors were revealed as soon as he saw Sophie.
When eating again, Sophie brought her boyfriend.
I kept observing Brad and he remained expressionless throughout the meal. He clenched his spoon several times when he saw Sophie being intimate with her boyfriend.
Even after she called him, he never went there again.
This was good. I didn’t have to see Sophie anymore and I felt relieved.
Who would have thought that within half a month, Sophie and her boyfriend would break up.
The reason even shocked me.
She said that Brad was unhappy because she found a boyfriend and made her friend unhappy, so there was no need to keep her boyfriend.
I started to wonder, were they really just friends since childhood?
Sophie liked Brad, right?
What about Brad?
Did he like her too?
I didn’t have the answer and I didn’t know. Because Brad’s kindness to me had not changed. But at the same time he was kind to me, he didn’t forget Sophie. Even the gifts were bought in duplicate.
In the bathroom, Sophie came to me.
“Tamara, you don’t have to be so hostile to me.”
She arranged her hair carelessly and said, “Brad and I have known each other for more than 20 years. I have seen his naked butt before. When we were in high school, we slept on the same bed and nothing happened. Just because we are so familiar.”
I clenched my fists and looked at the necklace around her neck. It was the same style as my bracelet.
She followed my gaze and looked over, touched the necklace and raised the corner of her mouth. “Brad knew that I like to wear jewelry, so he bought it for me. Oh, by the way, he also gave me a gift bracelet.”
I subconsciously turned my hands away, not wanting to be seen by her.
But she seemed to know everything and patted my shoulder proudly. “Don’t take men too seriously, Brad doesn’t like it.”
“So what? I’m his girlfriend now and I have the right to tell him not to play with people who can’t stand the stage.”
“You…”
Sophie’s expression changed. “Okay, just wait!”
After entering the private room, Sophie took the bag and was about to leave.
Other friends saw her and asked her what was wrong.
Brad also noticed something was wrong. After passing by, Sophie threw herself into his arms and started crying.
I stood at the door and watched quietly.
“Brad, I think we should stop contacting each other in the future. Your girlfriend doesn’t like me. She warned me outside just now and told me to stay away from you. She also said that I couldn’t stand up to the public.’
Brad’s expression changed after hearing this, but he didn’t say anything and continued to lower his head to coax Sophie.
My chest suddenly felt stinging. Looking at such a scene, I didn’t need to stay any longer, so I sneered and left.
Brad didn’t come back all night.
I was lying on the bed, scrolling through my Instagram and saw a post posted by Sophie three minutes ago.
The photo showed her lying in Brad’s arms.
The caption said: [He said we should always be together!]
I stared at those words for a long time and finally tears blurred my eyes.
They wanted to be together forever, what about me?
Who was I?
What were the years I had been with him?
Suddenly, there was a sharp stabbing pain in my chest. I clutched the clothes on my chest, tightened my shoulders and a hoarse cry escaped from my mouth.
At the end of the cry, I huddled into a small ball. The tears could no longer flow out. There were only bursts of sobbing and trembling, using all the strength.
I didn’t know how I fell asleep.
It was already noon when I opened my eyes again.
Fortunately, today was the weekend, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to see anyone with my face so swollen.
I glanced at my phone and there was no message from Brad on it.
He seemed to have forgotten me.
I went into the bathroom to take a shower and came out and found that Brad was back.
He bought a lot of things I liked to eat and came over to hug me.
“Tamara, don’t be angry. I know you don’t like me and Sophie playing around without measure. I made it clear to her last night and it won’t happen again.”
As he said that, he held my face and said, “Look at your little face, which is swollen from crying. We both drank too much after last night, so don’t think too much about it. Sophie is a little girl at heart, she loves to be playful, so just treat her as your little sister.”
When I looked at Brad in front of me, I felt strange.
In the past, Brad would always put my feelings first and would not let me have random thoughts, let alone let people with impure intentions get close to me.
He had changed now.
It was a storm that day and the company got off work an hour early, but the rain came fiercely and the umbrella was blown to pieces by the wind as soon as I got off the stairs.
The car I called was parked quite far away, so I just ran over.
I had a fever that night.
That night, I really wanted to call Brad. The moment I saw Sophie’s Instagram, my heart completely died.
Chapter 3
Brad was a little surprised. His expression changed and he looked at me seriously. “Tamara, don’t make me angry at all times, okay? I’m already very tired. I’m so tired from work every day in the company. Sophie is so tired. You still need me when something happens, so you can’t be considerate of me and you still make trouble.”
“Are you tired because of me? Does it have anything to do with me? Whoever makes you tired is the one you go to. I’m not your servant.”
Brad didn’t speak anymore, but came over to me, pulled me into his arms, lowered his head to kiss my lips...
I turned my head and avoided it.
His kiss fell on my face.
“Okay, okay, Tamara, don’t be angry anymore.”
He gave alms in a perfunctory tone, as if this would make me grateful and peaceful.
I pushed him away subconsciously, feeling a little disgusted.
In the past, when Brad made mistakes, he would explain the matter clearly to me and then seriously admitted his mistakes.
I also joked with him that this was a bit like the attitude of superiors and subordinates admitting their mistakes.
In fact, he just gave me a hug and kissed me.
He disdained such a method, saying it was an escape.
Now, for Sophie, he even resorted to the most disdainful methods.
I wiped my face in disgust and was about to enter the bedroom.
“Tamara, what do you mean? Do you dislike me?” He grabbed my arm and started to question.
My arm was so painful from his pinch that I tried my best to break free.
The skin turned red.
I didn’t bother to argue with him. “I’m mysophobic and I don’t want dirty man.”
“Why am I dirty? Sophie and I have nothing. She is my friend. In my heart, she is just like a man.”
“Oh, please figure out your sexual orientation first.”
Just as Brad was about to get angry, I had already closed the bedroom door.
Ten minutes later, I took his suitcase and threw it out the door.
“Tamara, why are you throwing things at me? Why are you so crazy?”
“Not only will I throw your things, I will also throw you out.”
I pushed him out as hard as I could and closed the door.
Outside the door, Brad was banging on the door and shouting, “Tamara, why did you kick me out?”
I opened the door and said, “Because I am the one who rented the house.”
After saying that, I put the dirty clothes on his head and closed the door again with a bang.
I didn’t want to cry, I had imagined this in my mind hundreds of times.
But I didn’t know why, when it came to this, I still felt heartbroken and suffocated.
I gave everything in my four-year relationship.
I put all my thoughts and all my emotions into Brad.
In the end, this was the result.
I was not willing to give in, but what could I do?
I couldn’t stand my boyfriend. He spent all day with other women and could abandon me at any time for that woman.
When choosing between two, I would always be the one left behind.
I just wanted it to be like that in the beginning, just each other.
Since we couldn’t do that, let’s not fight each other.
After adjusting my mood in the afternoon, I went to the locksmith to change the door lock.
The next day, when I was at work, I received an unknown number. As soon as I heard it was Brad’s voice, I hung up immediately and blocked the caller.
He called another number and was still blocked.
Just when I got home from get off work, I saw an unexpected person.
Sophie.
She came over and gave me a slap without saying anything.
