Chapter 1
The house caught fire, which made my sister Eva Loren seriously injured. For some reason, there was a shortage of ambulances, so taxis could not enter the community. I couldn't, so I called my husband Jonathan Collins for help.
He hung up the phone repeatedly, and finally, he turned off his phone. I could only call the neighbors for help insanely.
Finally, a kind-hearted person took Eva and me to the hospital, but Eva had already missed the best time for rescue and died in the hospital.
I knelt at the door of the morgue and cried desperately. The screen in the hospital corridor was broadcasting the news.
"Mr. Collins of the Collins Group spent a fortune on his lover. His lover cut her hand, so Mr. Collins dispatched ambulances from all over the city to rescue her."
I looked at the screen coldly and decided decisively to leave the culprit who killed Eva.
[Jonathan, let's get a divorce.]
At noon, I finished praying for Eva in the mourning hall of the funeral home, and when I got up, I sent a message to Jonathan.
The next second, the phone rang. Jonathan said in a reproachful tone, "You knew Alice was injured and I was too busy. I just didn't answer your call, but you've been in a cold war with me for six days. Aren't you satisfied?"
I disappeared for six days, but he never looked for me. Now I told him I wanted a divorce, but he didn't even ask for the reasons and just assumed I was jealous.
Maybe it was because I had been so humble over the years that he was sure that I would not dare to file for divorce.
I had loved Jonathan for six years. He was like my sun, and I only revolved around him. After marrying him, I gave up my beloved career and devoted myself to being a good wife and mother.
Alice was Jonathan's neighbor and had grown up with him. And Jonathan loved her since their childhood.
Alice only had a scratch on her finger that day. It would have healed even if she hadn't gone to the hospital, but she was taking up all the medical resources in the city.
In addition to Eva, several other people died because their families could not call an ambulance in time.
No one could imagine that so many lives were lost just because a woman was trying to win a man's heart.
I hung up the phone impatiently. I had already decided to leave him, so why should I waste any more energy to talk to him?
I put away my phone and looked at Eva in the freezer. After putting on makeup, she looked like she was asleep. I really hoped that she was just asleep.
After all, our life was not a novel, and there was no rebirth. Eva's body was cremated after the farewell ceremony was held.
My parents died early, so me and Eva relied on each other. Although she was one year younger than me, she had always been more tolerant of me.
She had a high salary, but she had lived in the old house frugally to support me, always worried that I would suffer in a wealthy family like the Collins family.
If she had bought a high-end apartment, she wouldn't have encountered problems like aging wires, and she wouldn't have been trapped by the fire for two hours.
It was already lunchtime, so I put my thoughts aside and was about to buy lunch.
Unexpectedly, I saw a familiar Maybach driving into the yard of the funeral home. Before I could react, Jonathan and Alice had already gotten out of the car and met me.
There was nearly no possibility for them to meet here, so Jonathan subconsciously thought that I was following him.
He looked cold immediately and said, "Susy, why are you here? You are going too far! How could you even follow me?"
Chapter 2
Alice stepped forward and explained as if she was kind, "Susy, don't get me wrong. The fish that Jonathan gave me were released into the pond of the community, but they died because of water quality. I came to contact the funeral home today to cremate them. They were not treated well when they were alive, so I want them to be more dignified after they die."
I looked at Alice's kind look, which made me look vicious.
I rolled my eyes and said coldly, "So what? What does it have to do with me? Do you need me to write an article to praise your kindness, or..."
"Susy! Do you have to be so aggressive?" Before I could finish my words, Jonathan looked at me with dissatisfaction and said, "Have you been pretending to be kind and gentle before?"
Hearing Jonathan's words, I no longer felt the pain. The only person who could affect my mood already died.
I said calmly, "Yes, it was all fake. Congratulations on you finally discovering it. In this case, you should sign the divorce agreement quickly, then you can leave me and be with your kind-hearted girl. Then you can protect her all the time."
When Alice heard the divorce agreement, she became excited and looked at Jonathan with some anticipation.
Jonathan did not agree to my proposal, but said with some displeasure, "Can you not mention divorce? Is it fun to talk about such a thing all the time?"
Alice looked disappointed, but she didn't want to ruin her gentle image, so she could only vent her anger on me, saying sarcastically, "Susy, you are already living a life of luxury, and you should learn to be content. Jonathan is very tired from work every day, but you always lose your temper like this, no one can stand it."
At this time, Jonathan's phone rang. It was his grandma Sophia Collins calling. The funeral home was very quiet, so I could clearly hear Sophia's concerned voice, "I heard that Susy's old house caught fire, and many people were killed or injured. I remember that Susy's sister seemed to still live in the old house! It's too dangerous. Why don't you let Susy's sister live in your villa? You're not at home often anyway, and the sisters can take care of each other."
"I got it," Jonathan answered Sophia perfunctorily and hung up the phone.
He looked at me and asked, "Why didn't you tell me that the old house of your family was on fire? Is your family okay?"
When I heard him mention this, my eyes turned red. "Didn't I tell you? I called you numerous times, but what did you do?"
As I said this, I looked at Alice's face. If my look could kill someone, I hoped that I could stab Alice to death to avenge Eva's life.
Jonathan was stunned for a moment, then realized belatedly, saying, "That day..."
His tone softened immediately, but he still blamed me, "Then you should have sent me a message later. If you didn't tell me, how would I know about this?"
News about the fire was widely spread, even Sophia, who never played with her phone or watched television, knew about it. How could he be unaware of this?
If he had cared a little more about me or asked his assistant, he would have known why I was so anxious to find him that afternoon.
He thought for a moment and said, "Okay, I'll pay for Eva to renovate the old house. Or if she doesn't want to, I'll give her the large flat next to our house..."
Chapter 3
I just felt irony when I heard these words and said, "Do you think you can buy everything with money?"
If I could get Eva back, I would rather give up everything, including Jonathan!
Alice took a step forward as if she had suffered a great injustice, and then she said, "Susy, Jonathan, it was all my fault. Don't quarrel over me."
"It was indeed your fault. You have occupied the entire city's medical resources and killed so many people. Even if you died ten thousand times, it would not be enough to atone for those families." I sneered, without showing her any mercy.
The tears in Alice's eyes flowed down.
Jonathan immediately protected her behind him and said, "Susy, Alice has a heart problem. Stop it! How can you be so vicious?"
I glanced at him and walked out directly because I wanted to eat.
It took me a lot of energy to deal with the funeral. Eva would be cremated tomorrow, so I couldn't make any mistakes at such a critical moment.
The next morning, I accompanied Eva's body to the crematorium. The place was usually empty, but now the door was crowded with people.
When the person in charge saw me and immediately came over to tell me that the cremation needed to be delayed for one day. If I was dissatisfied, they could help me contact other funeral homes and crematoriums.
I contacted this funeral home on the day Eva passed away. It was the best in the city and provided a one-stop service from body makeup, refrigeration, cremation to the farewell ceremony.
I had already notified relatives and friends early on, and many of them came from other cities. It would be very troublesome to change the time or the location of the funeral. Moreover, Eva was already so unfortunate before her death, so I didn't want to mess up even her last ceremony.
I rushed to the front with unprecedented strength and argued, "No! You must have cremation for Eva today! I made an appointment seven days in advance, and you are breaking the contract by changing it at the last minute. If you do this, I will make sure you can't continue to operate."
"Susy, what are you doing now?" Jonathan's voice sounded behind me.
I looked back and saw that he and Alice were all dressed in black, with a group of bodyguards in black suits following behind them. Each of them was holding a glass tank in their hands, and each box contained a dead fish.
The bodyguards passed me and carried the fish into the crematorium. I snatched the glass tank from the nearest bodyguard and slammed it to the ground.
The glass tank broke into pieces the moment it hit the ground. Alice squatted on the ground and screamed, "Susy, how can you be so cruel that you can't even tolerate a small animal? You are just jealous of Jonathan's kindness to me, so you still torment the fish he gave me even when they are dead!"
I ignored her and was about to grab the second glass jar, but Jonathan came forward and held me back, saying, "Susy, don't go crazy!"
I pulled my hand back and slapped him hard, saying, "Jonathan, get the hell away from me!"
"I dote on you too much, so you're so rude now!" Jonathan covered his face and looked at me coldly.
Alice hurriedly said to the other bodyguards, "Why are you standing there? Stop her! How could you just watch her slap Mr. Collins? And I must cremate and bury my fish in peace today. We can't let this crazy woman delay their reincarnation."
Immediately, a strong and tall bodyguard came over and grabbed my arm tightly. These bodyguards were so strong that I couldn't break free at all.
