Chapter 1 of Luna Rejects Alpha's Offer

The grand hall of the Shadowmoon Pack house glittered with crystal chandeliers and silver decorations, all arranged to celebrate what should have been our triumph—ten years of mate bond bliss between Alpha Ricardo and me, his Luna. I stood tall in my custom-designed silver gown, my dark hair swept into an elegant updo that highlighted the Luna crown nestled within it. Everything was perfect. Everything was planned.

Except for the collective gasp that rippled through the assembly.

"I have an announcement to make," Ricardo's voice boomed across the hall, his arm wrapped possessively around a woman I'd never seen at official pack functions before. A small boy with Ricardo's unmistakable green eyes clung to the woman's leg.

My fingers instinctively touched the mate mark on my neck, the bond that had sustained me for a decade suddenly feeling like a noose.

"This is Leslie Bailey," Ricardo continued, his voice carrying that arrogant edge I'd once found charming. "And her son, Karter Edwards. My son."

The room spun momentarily, but I forced myself to remain steady. Inside, my wolf howled in agony, but outwardly, I maintained perfect composure. Ten years of being Luna had taught me to wear masks well.

"Today marks not just our ten-year anniversary," Ricardo announced, "but a new beginning for the Shadowmoon Pack. Leslie will be taking over as Luna effective immediately."

I felt the weight of every stare in the room. The pity. The shock. The barely concealed satisfaction from those who had always questioned my worth.

"Sabrina has served her purpose," Ricardo added, his words slicing through me like claws. "But the pack needs fresh blood, new vision."

Beside me, our daughter Emerson trembled, her young face pale with confusion. I squeezed her hand gently, silently promising that everything would be alright—even though we both knew it was a lie.

"I accept your rejection, Alpha Ricardo," I said, my voice carrying clearly across the now-silent hall. "May the Moon Goddess witness our bond's dissolution."

Something flickered in Ricardo's eyes—surprise, perhaps, at my calm acceptance. He'd expected tears, begging, a scene. Instead, I gave him a slight bow and turned to leave, my head held high.

Little did he know that this moment—this public humiliation—was exactly what I had been waiting for.

The access panel to the Luna quarters flashed red when I pressed my palm against it.

"Access denied," the automated system announced coldly.

I tried again, knowing full well what the result would be. Behind me, Emerson shifted nervously from foot to foot.

"Mom, why isn't it working?" she whispered.

Before I could answer, the door slid open, revealing Leslie standing in what had been my private sanctuary mere hours ago. She wore one of my silk robes—the blue one Ricardo had gifted me on our fifth anniversary.

"Oh," she said with feigned surprise. "Sabrina. I thought you'd be gone by now."

"The Luna quarters are still legally mine until the end of the week," I replied evenly. "Pack law is quite clear on this point."

Leslie's smile tightened. "Ricardo says—"

"Ricardo isn't pack law," I cut her off gently. "Now, if you'll excuse us, my daughter and I need to collect some personal items."

As we moved through the rooms that had been my home, I noticed pack members in the hallway giving Emerson cold stares. One older she-wolf deliberately bumped into her shoulder.

"Watch where you're going, half-breed," she muttered.

I stepped forward, but Emerson grabbed my arm. "Don't, Mom," she whispered. "It's not worth it."

My heart broke for her. In the span of an afternoon, she'd gone from beloved Alpha daughter to an unwanted reminder of a discarded mate.

"This is absurd!" I kept my voice level as I stood before the hastily assembled Alpha council. "These accusations have no basis in fact."

Ricardo paced at the head of the table, his new Luna standing smugly behind him. "The evidence speaks for itself, Sabrina. Three border breaches in the last month. Vital information leaked to rival packs."

"These are convenient fabrications," I countered.

"Beta Lee has confirmed it," Ricardo said, gesturing to Lee Dixon, who stood uncomfortably at the edge of the room.

All eyes turned to him. Lee's face was a mask of conflicted loyalty.

"I... I found evidence of unauthorized access to our security systems," he said finally, unable to meet my gaze. "The logs show Luna—show Sabrina's clearance codes were used."

I knew then that Ricardo had planned this meticulously. Lee was many things, but not a liar. Which meant Ricardo had manipulated the evidence somehow.

"The council has reached its decision," Marcus Chen announced, his ancient eyes narrowed. "Sabrina Miller is hereby stripped of all pack status and banished from Shadowmoon lands with immediate effect."

"You have nothing but the clothes on your back," Ricardo added, his voice triumphant. "No resources, no allies, no territory."

As guards moved to escort me out, I caught Ricardo's eye one last time. In his gaze, I saw satisfaction, the belief that he had finally broken me completely.

If only he knew what I had been planning all along.

"Goodbye, Alpha Ricardo," I said softly. "May you enjoy your victory while it lasts."
