Chapter 3
I had been married to Alan for eight years, and Bailey had been chasing after him like glue for eight years.
At first, I didn't care at all.
I even thought that Bailey couldn't be a threat.
Her appearance, figure, and abilities were all inferior to mine.
She was clumsy and had always been criticized by her friends for being a burden.
She had secretly loved Alan since college, sending him flowers, buying him meals, and running errands for him.
Even when mocked by others as "a toad wishing to eat swan meat". Bailey still ignored it and never gave up on loving Alan.
Alan was unconcerned when he saw her, and even publicly declared that he never wanted to see her again.
Bailey was sad for two days, but on the third day, she became like an undead cockroach, smiling and following Alan.
Bailey pursued Alan's company after graduation, just to become his colleague.
Bailey almost spent more time with Alan than I did every day due to the work.
...
I even joked at the party, "Bailey is so persistent. What if Alan falls for her because they are close?"
My friends all made fun of me, "You're kidding. Alan is not blind, he will never give up on you and choose that ugly duckling, Bailey."
Almost everyone thought that Alan would never fall in love with Bailey.
But he did.
Chapter 4
Alan personally prepared a grand candlelight dinner at home because he saw that I was not in a good mood.
He also bought a big cake with 'Happy 8th Wedding Anniversary' written on it.
But I thought it ironic no matter how I looked at it.
Alan personally cut the cake for me and considerately placed it in front of me. I ate it without saying a word.
After Alan's phone rang twice, he frowned and set it to silent.
He tried to find a topic with me, but I didn't respond.
In the end, we stopped talking.
Halfway through the meal, Alan smiled and stood up.
"Donna, the cake is too greasy. I'm going downstairs to buy some fruit. I'll be back soon."
Perhaps the sixth sense that women were born with was too accurate.
At the moment he got up, I thought of his chat records with Bailey yesterday.
I nodded expressionlessly, "Okay."
Alan picked up his coat, kissed me on the forehead before leaving, and said gently, "Wait for me."
See. We looked like a loving couple.
But no one knew what Alan was thinking now.
After Alan left, I also put on my coat and went downstairs, taking a taxi to follow him.
Sure enough, he didn't go to the supermarket or fruit shop to buy any fruits.
Instead, he parked directly at the entrance of the hotel.
Then he walked hurriedly and a petite girl in the hotel ran into his arms.
I sat in the back seat of the taxi and saw him embracing Bailey at the hotel entrance.
Bailey hugged him excitedly, with a coquettish expression, as if whispering to him.
Alan didn't say anything with a calm expression, but let Bailey pull him upstairs.
I almost couldn't breathe.
I understood everything at that moment, .
Chapter 5
I returned home silently.
I had no strength like a walking corpse, and collapsed on the sofa.
It felt like a dream until I took a deep breath to calm myself down and slowly accepted the reality.
Alan had gone astray.
He cheated on me with Bailey. Judging by their interaction, it seems like they had been together for a while.
Two hours later, Alan came back.
He carried some not-so-fresh fruits and turned on the lights as soon as he entered the room, instantly making the room dazzling.
I raised my hand to block instinctively.
I heard Alan's surprised voice, "Donna, why haven't you slept yet?"
He put some oranges and apples on the table and leaned towards me, acting spoiled.
"I don't know what happened today. There were no fruits downstairs, so I went to a slightly farther supermarket to buy them. But the car broke down on the way, so I got back now," he said with a hint of helplessness.
...
A strong scent of perfume hit me as he got closer to me.
I never wear perfume.
I was far away from Alan. "What's that smell on you?"
Alan's expression was unnatural. And he smiled to cover it up. "Maybe it's because I was too close to the lady boss when I bought the fruit. She was wearing perfume."
I laughed at myself.
I couldn't believe that Alan had lied to me and he was already so skilled at it.
I looked at the time on my phone. I felt bitter.
Alan was very punctual.
He said it was two hours. It's two hours.
"Go take a shower, I'll go to sleep first."
I pushed away Alan, who wanted to hug me. And I tried to hold back the urge to vomit, got up, and went back to my room.
I couldn't fall asleep no matter what.
After Alan finished taking a bath, he hugged me from behind and said, "Honey, it's been a long time since we..."
His hands caressed my skin gently.
He wanted to have sex, but I coldly rejected him.
"I'm too tired. I want to sleep."
Alan felt a little disappointed, but he didn't say anything and soon fell asleep.
I stared at Alan's sleeping face, so familiar, with tears streaming down my face.
