Chapter 2
“This glass of wine cannot be drunk.”
Countless words of explanation came to my head, but I just said this.
Quinton’s friends looked at each other, their eyes moving back and forth between me and Olivia.
I realized that everyone knew if Quinton liked Olivia.
Only I, his wife, knew nothing.
Endless sighs swayed back and forth in my heart, causing pain in my heart.
“I was not planning on drinking this.”
As soon as Quinton said this, everyone fell silent.
There was a clang behind me and the wine glass in Olivia's hand shattered to the ground.
I realized that Quinton's eyes had changed when he looked at me.
It was no longer the kind of disregard as before, but hatred.
Before that incident, Quinton and I had always been in a peaceful relationship. He should not look at me like that.
“Leah, don't think I don't know you put drugs in this glass of wine.”
Quinton leaned close to my ear and said this through gritted teeth.
I realized that I was not the only one who was reborn, but Quinton also.
I subconsciously turned my head to look at her and when our eyes met, I could clearly see his resentment towards me.
In his previous life, he always believed that I had drugged his wine and deliberately designed to expose the affair between him and Olivia. He hated me even more for making this matter known to everyone.
In the club's private room, he watched me being tortured and humiliated to death.
Even though I begged him on my knees, cried and shouted that it was not me who drugged me, he did not stop.
“Leah, you have tarnished Olivia's reputation and I will make you die with a stigma on your body. It would be best if you die in the underworld, where you are despised and ridden by thousands of people.”
Eyes like icy swords and every glance was like a torture.
After the two pairs of eyes overlapped infinitely, I came to my senses and was shaking with fear.
At this time, Olivia's voice sounded behind him, “Leah, I mixed this glass of wine for Quinton. It has no special meaning, just to thank him for helping my brother to go to school.”
Olivia came over with an apologetic look on her face, took my hand and explained affectionately.
But every look that fell on Quinton was so tender and affectionate.
In my previous life, when I married into the Hurst Family, the eldest brother of the Hurst Family had already passed away.
Quinton asked me many times to take good care of Olivia and I followed his instructions and treated her with all my heart.
I took her out for food, drinks and entertainment, introduced her to people and helped her expand her career. I always gave her a portion of anything I buy.
I even told her that Quinton refused to touch me.
Back then, she consoled me, guided me and offered words of wisdom like a steady light in my darkest hours.
Most of the means of seduction came from her, which made Quinton think that I was cheap from the bottom of his heart.
Finally I realized how stupid I was in my previous life. I did not even notice such obvious emotions surge.
“It's okay. I do not mind.”
I pretended nothing had happened and turned around to leave the venue.
Behind me, I heard the teasing from Quinton's friends, all of whom said that I had been jealous and unpresentable since I was a child.
In the past, I would have rushed in and argued with them.
But if I had my life to live again, I would never choose to do this again.
This time, I just wanted to leave.
At the banquet, Quinton took Olivia to meet many people, as if they were a couple.
I pretended nothing happened and waited for the party to end in boredom.
It was not until I walked past the room at the corner of the first floor again that I heard a faint panting sound from behind the half-open door.
Through the crack in the door, I saw Quinton's affectionate peach blossom eyes again.
Chapter 3
In this life, they progressed faster than in the previous life.
Olivia's clothes were already half-undressed and scattered all over the small room.
“Olivia… I don't want to lose you anymore, can we be together?”
There was a slight whimper in Olivia's rapid breathing.
Quinton suddenly raised his eyes and met my eyes through the crack in the door.
There was a warning in his vicious eyes, like a tiger that seemed ready to bite me at any time.
I did not rush in crying and making a fuss like I did in my previous life, alarming all the elders.
He just closed the door expressionlessly, then pulled the waiter aside to order, “This room is a private room. So, don’t let anyone come unless necessary.”
I could not help but recall the tragic end of myself and my family and the closed door seemed to bring us a glimmer of hope.
After surviving the disaster, I ran to the small garden to get some fresh air. Turning around and looking at the scene of people toasting each other, my heart grew colder.
Although this was the third anniversary of Quinton and I, it made no difference whether I was there or not. Everyone ignored me with Quinton's tacit consent.
In my previous life, I was so focused on how to seduce Quinton that I did not even feel anything.
Consciousness gradually became clearer and all the details of the previous life formed a closed loop at this moment.
I laughed bitterly, but heard a mocking voice behind me, “Your husband has been taken away by someone else and you are still smiling here?”
I turned my head and saw that stunning face in the night. There was a faint smile on the corner of his mouth and he was looking at me with his arms folded across his chest.
He was my mortal enemy since childhood, Patrick Barrett.
I did not know if it was because the night was too dark and I was a little drunk, or if the alcohol I just drank had messed up my brain.
I moved forward and grabbed Patrick by the collar, then whispered in his ear, “Patrick, I'm going to divorce him and marry you. How about it?”
The strong and powerful heartbeat fell into my ears.
I even forgot how I got back to my room, I just knew that I had a headache when I woke up.
Looking at the divorce agreement sent by Patrick on my phone, I suddenly realized that I had done something ridiculous yesterday.
[Do what you say.]
These four short words reminded me of everything about Patrick.
The Barrett family was the most prosperous family in Burj City. If I left the Hurst Family, then Patrick was my only choice.
As I got ready and went downstairs, Quinton and Olivia were already sitting at the dining table eating breakfast.
Quinton glanced at me coldly and said sarcastically, “On the third anniversary, when we were seeing off the guests, we could not even find a single person?
“Leah, if you don't want to be the daughter-in-law of the Hurst Family anymore, tell me as soon as possible. There are many people who want to be my wife.”
Quinton's voice was neither loud nor soft, but the sarcasm between his words was too obvious.
In my previous life, I loved Quinton, but the brainwashing education I received since childhood made it impossible for me to like anyone other than Quinton.
But things were different once I was reborn. Such a painful death had completely made me give up on the man I have loved for more than 20 years.
“Then I don’t want it anymore. Just give it to someone who’s desperate to become the Hurst Family’s daughter-in-law.”
I glanced at Olivia lightly.
Olivia wore a low-necked sweater that day and the empty neckline revealed red marks that could not be covered up even with concealer.
Anyone with a brain knew that she did it on purpose.
“I will sign the divorce agreement for you.”
Quinton paused holding the spoon, looked up at me and his deep eyes full of disbelief.
After all, I had trailed after him since childhood, so that everyone knew I loved him to the bone and would never marry another.
Chapter 4
Quinton glared at me angrily, then stood up and left.
I took my coffee and sat in the small garden to have breakfast.
Olivia followed and asked, “Do you really want to divorce Quinton?
“Leah, did you see what happened last night? I can explain. Quinton and I are not what you think."
Olivia's eyes started to turn red after she said a few words.
I glanced at her feigned look of grievance, already growing tired of the act and forcefully shook off Olivia's hand.
What I did not expect was her sudden scream as she stumbled backward, crashing into a nearby sculpture.
“Leah!”
What a coincidence, Quinton, who was about to go out, just came downstairs.
He rushed over and picked up Olivia, pointing at me and yelling, “I knew that you were just pretending to be nice to Olivia in the past and you only bullied her behind her back.
“I 'm telling you, this time I won't allow you to hurt her even a little bit.”
Olivia in his arms was crying out of breath, calling Quinton's name.
Quinton stepped forward, grabbed my arm and held me down to apologize to Olivia, “Apologize! Otherwise, I will throw you into the back hill to feed the dogs today.”
In the back mountain are several Tibetan mastiffs raised by his grandfather. They were raised on a diet of raw meat and were very ferocious.
“Sorry.”
I just wanted to leave peacefully without any more complications.
So, without any excuses, I bowed respectfully to Olivia and apologized.
Quinton had no room to maneuver, so he could only pick up Olivia and rush into the house, shouting for someone to call a doctor.
One injury caused a huge mess for the whole family.
I listened to the noise outside and calmly packed my things. I was halfway through when the door rang.
“It's not your fault for what happened today. Quinton just cares too much about me. I 've already told Quinton."
Looking at Olivia's pretentiousness, I lost my patience.
Taking the divorce agreement from the table, I got straight to the point and started the conversation, “Olivia, I do not know whether you like Quinton or not. But Quinton likes you. You can go to his study and take a look.
“This is the divorce agreement I signed. Find a way to get him to sign it. It will be good for both you and me.”
That study room.
After the incident in the previous life, I was the one who brought people in to smash and destroy all traces of the love between Quinton and Olivia.
Those photos, love letters, gifts and the paintings that Quinton drew for Olivia were all torn into pieces, burned and smashed by me.
Quinton hated me so much later on, not only because he thought I drugged Olivia and forced her to death, but also because he hated me for destroying his beautiful memories.
In his previous life, he often cried in his study and would stay there for several days.
At that time I naively thought I had won, but I did not know that was the beginning of my nightmare.
During the days when Quinton locked himself in the study, he planned to destroy me and my family. He did not even spare my dog.
I still remember the dog being thrown into the back mountain, from its loud howling to its dying whimper.
Once Olivia handed me the divorce agreement, I had just called the moving company.
She pulled me aside and said some hypocritical words, but I was too lazy to listen and pushed her away.
“Stop pretending. You feel very happy now, don't you?
“Olivia, you were the one who put the drug in the wine, right? You wanted to make Quinton lose control. Have you been waiting for this day for a long time?
“I'm telling you, I do not want trash like Quinton anymore. If you want to be a trash can, then just stay.”
In front of Olivia, I got into Patrick's car and left the Hurst Family without looking back.
I did not know how Patrick got the divorce certificate between Quinton and me.
I turned around and mailed the divorce certificate to Quinton’s office.
After doing these things, I felt an unprecedented sense of relief.
“I'll go get the certificate tomorrow.”
Patrick's words froze me where I was.
I looked at Patrick and remembered that in my previous life, my father was framed for having problems with the company's accounts.
If this really happened, then the only one who could save the Fowler Family was Patrick.
The only one I could rely on was Patrick.
After choosing a date, Patrick and I completed all the procedures and were waiting for the stamp when we heard bursts of noisy noises outside the door.
I looked back and saw Quinton rushing in in a hurry,
“Leah, you are so bold! Do you know that bigamy is illegal?”
Seeing Quinton so vicious, I was a little puzzled.
He signed the divorce agreement and the divorce certificate was also sent to him. Why was he acting like he knew nothing?
I frowned, pulled my hand back and was about to explain. But a staff member at the side said, “Sir, this lady is unmarried, are you mistaken?”
“How is that possible? She and I have been married for three years.”
He pulled out his ID card from his bag and handed it to the staff. The staff took it and scanned it on the reader, then glanced up with a slight smirk.
“Aren’t you divorced? The system shows you’re single now too.”
Quinton was stunned, “Divorce?! When did I divorce her?”
