Chapter 1
After marrying Wyatt, Savannah was deeply touched by his devotion. Before long, she found herself completely wrapped in his gentle affection.
He'd used the excuse of being nearly 30 and still childless to pressure her into having a baby.
During a routine checkup, the doctor had informed her that she couldn't conceive naturally and would need IVF. Savannah felt guilty and willingly accepted the painful procedure, believing it was something she had to endure for the sake of their future.
Now, she had learned the shocking truth. It wasn't her who was incapable of having children—it was Wyatt. He had deceived her all along and never intended for her to carry his child.
Savannah stumbled out of the hospital in a daze, her mind spinning. Her head throbbed as reality crashed into her like a tidal wave, each revelation slicing through her thoughts like a knife.
A gentle breeze ruffled her hair, jolting her back to her senses.
In fact, she had always worn her hair in loose waves before their marriage. However, she had cut it into sleek, jet-black strands to match Wyatt's ideal type—to fit Brielle's signature innocent look.
Savannah then recalled the countless gifts Wyatt had given her.
There were designer bags, jewelry, and everything she could ever want. Yet, every time she received something, Brielle seemed to possess them as well.
She often chalked it up to the fact that Camden and Wyatt must simply share similar tastes and never thought much of it. But now, everything was painfully clear.
Wyatt's devotion had been nothing but a lie, whereas his manipulation was real. He'd been acting all along, using her to fulfill his twisted scheme of making her carry Brielle's child!
In hindsight, there had been early signs of his manipulation. Yet, she'd been too lost in Wyatt's feigned affection to see. She didn't want to accept that she had never been loved, not by Camden or Wyatt.
Standing at the entrance of the hospital, Savannah trembled as tears spilled uncontrollably down her cheeks. Her shoulders shook with quiet, broken sobs.
Unable to bear the betrayal, she clutched her belly and hailed a cab to another hospital.
She was about to make an appointment to terminate her pregnancy when a notice on the bulletin board caught her eye.
"In search of human body specimens. When life comes to an end, beyond returning to dust, one can still contribute to medicine and society."
Without a second thought, Savannah strode up to the registration desk and asked, "Excuse me, do you still need a five-month-old baby specimen?"
Chapter 2
The hospital staff greeted Savannah warmly and started to record her details.
"We're in urgent need of specimens at the moment. Are you interested? If so, we can have you sign the papers right now to proceed with the donation."
"Yes."
Savannah's quick and decisive reply made the staff pause and lift her head in slight disbelief.
"May I ask how is the baby?"
Savannah knew that the hospital might refuse her if they found out her baby was healthy, so she lied.
"The baby's about to stop growing. It won't survive if I carry it to term."
"Understood. Please sign here. The procedure will be scheduled for two weeks from now. If you change your mind in the meantime, that's understandable. Just call us to let us know."
Savannah nodded. As far as she was concerned, her body was hers to control, and she would no longer let anyone dictate her choices.
Suddenly, her phone rang, pulling her back into reality.
Wyatt's voice came through the phone. It was soft and caring, completely different from the angry tone he'd used earlier with Camden.
"Why haven't you come for your checkup today? Are you feeling unwell? I just finished work. Let me come pick you up," he said.
Savannah fought to control the shiver in her voice and tried to sound as calm as possible. "I'm fine. I just miss Chase. I'm planning to pick him up from daycare."
Her grip on her phone tightened, her knuckles turning slightly pale from the pressure.
Immediately, Wyatt sounded urgent as he advised, "It's not his first day at the daycare. Why are you so worried? You don't need to go there now."
He was afraid she might ask anything more.
Ever adept at reading between the lines, Savannah quickly sensed that something wasn't right.
Casually, she came up with an excuse and told him she was staying the night at a friend's house.
Once Wyatt was convinced, she took a cab to the daycare.
Sure enough, when she arrived, she saw Wyatt and Brielle, together with Chase Greene, participating in early childhood education activities.
Brielle, the glamorous star, was showering Chase with motherly affection. Chase, for his part, called Brielle "Mommy". To an outsider, they looked like a happy family of three.
Brielle turned to Wyatt, her smile warm and sweet.
"Thank you, Wyatt. If you hadn't convinced Savannah to get pregnant again, she would've returned to work and taken away my resources. I'll always remember all you've done for me these past years."
Then, she gently touched his arm with an intimate and dependant gesture.
Feeling moved, Wyatt reassured her, "Don't worry. I'll make sure Savannah is stuck at home forever."
Chapter 3
Savannah felt as if a lightning bolt had struck her. She froze in place while her mind went blank. She realized, with horror, that after marrying her, Wyatt had rushed to have their first child, Chase.
Though she hadn't planned on having a second child and had no desire to remain a housewife, Wyatt had pushed for it—just when she had secured a role in a big production movie.
At that time, she had fallen for his sweet words and agreed to have another child, unknowingly sacrificing her career once more.
So, this had been part of their carefully crafted plot. They had planned to sever any chance she had at developing her career in the entertainment industry.
Wyatt leaned down and reminded Chase, "You can't tell anyone you saw Brielle today. This is our secret."
Chase responded without skipping a beat, "I know, Daddy. Just like last time."
Their practiced exchange made it clear that this wasn't the first time.
Ignoring the pangs of pain in her abdomen, Savannah rushed back home. She found a few strands of Chase's hair in the bathroom and grabbed her toothbrush.
A family friend owned the private hospital for her routine checkups, so she had no choice but to head to another hospital to get a paternity test.
After a tense half-day, the results came back, and they confirmed Chase was not her child.
It was heartbreaking.
Savannah contacted the hospital she had visited earlier and asked, "Hello, is there any chance I could move up my procedure? I've made up my mind."
The staff replied, "Of course. I'll arrange it for you. Your surgery can be scheduled for next Monday."
When Savannah finally returned home, exhausted, she found Wyatt standing at the door with Chase's hand in his. The scene should have been heartwarming, yet to her, it was an eyesore.
Chase ran into her arms. "Mommy, I missed you so much."
Savannah squeezed out a smile and pulled him away. She stared at his face, which bore a striking resemblance to Brielle's, and asked, "Did you have fun at daycare today?"
Chase subconsciously glanced at Wyatt, who gave him a subtle nod as an indication.
With a practiced calm, Chase recited his side of the story in his usual innocent tone, "Yes, Mommy. We played lots of games and even did some drawing with the other kids."
Savannah's heart shattered as she looked at the child she had raised for five years lying to her face. He was deceiving her alongside Brielle. She felt as if she had raised a traitor.
Wyatt stepped forward and said pretentiously, "It's my fault. I should've gone with you to the checkup yesterday. If you're upset, let out your emotions so our baby can grow healthy."
As he spoke, he gently patted Savannah's shoulder. His face was full of feigned guilt, but his eyes held a cold, almost imperceptible detachment.
"Our baby," Savannah thought bitterly. More like his and Brielle's baby.
Hearing Wyatt's fake concern and seeing the elaborate dinner he had prepared, Savannah felt nauseated. She made an excuse about feeling unwell and retreated to the bedroom to rest.
After that, while Wyatt was in the shower, Savannah snuck into his study. She had never been allowed inside before. But today, she was determined to find out everything.
