Chapter 1
The day my husband's first love, Nancy Garcia, woke up from a long-term coma, I jumped off the cliff with my daughter, Dora Davis.
To bring my daughter with me, I waived everything and left Sebastian Davis' home without a penny.
Back then, when the Davis family was being hunted by the mafia, I spent all my family's wealth and even lost both of my eyes to save his life.
However, Sebastian resents me for forcing him into marriage, which resulted in Nancy becoming a vegetative state.
He continuously belittles me, leaving me heartbroken, and I decided to divorce him.
But when the news of my death reached home, he, who had always been calm and rational, immediately broke down.
——
I had heated the dinner several times.
Looking at my drowsy daughter, I let out a deep sigh.
Today was Dora’s fifth birthday.
Her cheeks were red from crying as she kept clamoring to see her father.
I begged for a long time on the phone and even specially asked Sebastian's assistant to place the family portrait drawn by Dora on his desk, just hoping he would come for dinner.
But apparently, Sebastian forgot about it.
"Mom, will Dad come home? I've prepared a gift for him." Dora held my hand, and I forced a smile.
"He will, honey," I said.
After I carried my daughter to the sofa and patiently put her to sleep, I took a taxi to the hospital.
He must be there.
After getting off work every day, he would go to the hospital to see Nancy who was in a vegetative state, washing her face and holding her hand to chat with her for a long while.
Arriving outside the VIP ward, I was surprised to find that a group of Sebastian's good friends were also there.
"Sebastian, how can you just stay by Nancy's side every day, what about that blind loser at home and that little bastard?" one of his friends said.
I clenched my hands violently, and my temples began to throb.
Blind loser and a little bastard?
So, this was how his friends saw me?
The ward was silent for two seconds, and soon, Sebastian's responded impatiently, "What should I do? She volunteered to marry me in the first place."
Sebastian's tone sounded extremely forbidding, but I had already been used to it.
Back when the Davis family was being hunted by the triads, after I risked my life to save him, my parents forced him to marry me.
The day after the wedding, news came that his first love, Nancy, had been in a car accident.
Sebastian was heartbroken, yet still completed our wedding.
After we got married, he slept in the company and revived the Davis family's business. However, he treated me like air.
I knew he hated me.
He ascribed Nancy's accident to me and hated to rely on my family.
So, he bankrupted my family business and took revenge on me.
Regardless of whether I was asleep or not, he would broke into my room and let out his desire on me.
And when I found out I was pregnant, I excitedly told him the good news.
But he told others that I cheated on him and was pregnant with someone else's daughter.
And I was also portrayed as a fickle whore.
While I was stunned, someone in the ward said something much more shocking.
"But Katrina saved your life and lost her eyesight for you. As the precious daughter of the Wilson family, she was pampered and spoiled, but for your sake, she has suffered a great deal."
But someone interrupted him immediately.
"What do you mean? Are you saying that Mr. Davis' achievements today were all gained through women? But Katrina did this just to force a marriage, and it even caused Nancy to get into a car accident. She has been in a coma for so long!"
"the Wilson family has long been bankrupt. A woman of loose morals, along with a daughter who is a burden to you, in my opinion, you should get a divorce as soon as possible."
My heart feels like it's being squeezed, and the pain is making me hard to breathe.
Sebastian sneered. "Why are you talking about a blind woman?"
Suddenly, there was laughter in the ward, and a with a greasy voice said, "Katrina is indeed pretty, much prettier than some celebrities I support. She has a curvaceous figure."
"If you get tired of playing with her, tell me and I'll take her over. She's just a slut anyway," he added.
Sleazy laughter broke out in the ward.
I leaned against the wall and slid down, feeling so powerless.
Chapter 2
Now, I was a blind woman whom everyone could trample.
But he forgot that I was blind for him.
I used to be a princess held in the palm of my parents' hands.
Six years ago, I just came back from abroad.
I felt unfamiliar and curious about everything around me, so my parents indulged me and held a welcome party.
But I found the rules of the party boring, so I slipped out during the tea break and took a walk by the river alone.
That's when I met Sebastian. He was climbing a tree to save a kitten.
He was cold and reclusive, but even when a kitten scratched his hand, he still gently soothed it.
I fell in love with Sebastian at first sight.
Later, I learned that the Davis family had gone bankrupt and Sebastian was living in very poor conditions.
So, I smiled and reached out my hand. "Don't be afraid, I'll protect you from now on!"
I passionately pursued Sebastian, thinking he would be moved by my efforts and fall in love with me.
He always accepted my gifts but deliberately kept his distance from me.
At that time, I didn't know he fell in love with someone else.
So, when the Davis family was being hunted by the underworld, I ignored my family's opposition and spent all my money to save him.
I even swallowed poison and lost my sight.
I was forced to put down my beloved scalpel, and everything in my world turned gray.
My parents, out of love for me and wanting my efforts to be rewarded, forced him to marry me.
Beyond my expectation, he still only loved Nancy after six years.
the Wilson family helped him so much, but in the end, we became his enemy.
I watched helplessly as Sebastian brought down my parents one by one. Even when I was kneeling and begging him to spare my family, he just looked at me with amusement and poured red wine over my head.
"You've ruined Nancy's life. You deserve this," he said.
I immediately fell to the ground and had a fever for three days and three nights.
When I woke up, I received the news of my parents' passing.
In my utter grief, I fell gravely ill.
It was then that I realized this relationship had been nothing but my own wishful thinking.
When I got home from the hospital, Dora jumped into my arms.
Her big eyes kept looking past me, filled with infinite hope.
"Mom, did you bring dad home?" she asked.
I sobbed and shook my head silently.
Dora, who was originally crying, suddenly stopped her tears and stroked my face with her little hands. "Mom, I don't want dad anymore. I only wants to be with you."
My daughter hugged me, warming me with her tiny body.
At that moment, I could no longer hold back my tears.
I guessed I was not a good mother.
After that night of being tormented by Sebastian, I couldn't stop vomiting. It was only after using a pregnancy test that I realized I was pregnant.
I knew that, born into such a broken family, she was destined not to be happy.
But the doctor told me that the poison I had ingested before had already severely damaged my body. If I chose to have an abortion this time, I might never be able to have children again.
It was my momentary selfishness that led to Dora's birth.
She was born without father's love.
By the time she was three years old, Sebastian still refused to give her a name, refused to acknowledge her as his child, and even publicly claimed that she was a bastard.
She didn't understand these things, always blinking her innocent eyes, asking me where her father was.
My heart was in agony, and I had no choice but to tell one lie after another.
As she grew older, Dora gradually came to understand the reason why she never saw her father.
At night, after falling asleep, she often cried so much that her pillow was soaked.
I feel both heartbroken and guilty.
So, divorce might be the best option.
After Dora fell asleep, I began to pack my bags in the dark.
But suddenly, there was a noise in the hallway. I could smell a strong odor of alcohol.
Immediately after, I was grabbed by a large hand and thrown onto the bed with great force.
I screamed in pain, while the person on top of me unleashed his desires without restraint.
He tied my hands with a tie, then tore off my clothes, leaving me completely exposed to the air.
Fear spread in my heart, and I struggled desperately.
But there was a warm sensation on my neck, along with his almost painful pleading.
"Nancy, please don't go. Don't leave me, okay?"
I was so familiar with that voice; it was Sebastian.
He mistook me for someone else.
I was stunned. Then, he leaned over and kissed me.
In an instant, the pungent smell of alcohol and smoke enveloped me, pulling me back into my memories.
"She's just a slut anyway..."
"When you're tired of playing with her..."
"You deserve this..."
The words Sebastian once used to insult me echoed in my ears, each one a blow to my heart, filled with shame, betrayal, and the pain of my loved ones being wronged.
My eyes were in intense pain, as if light was piercing through them.
Tasting the metallic rust in my mouth, I don't know where I found the strength, but I slapped him across the face.
Chapter 3
"If you truly loved Nancy, why did you accept my pursuit in the first place? You could have refused me outright! Now that you've taken everything from the Wilson family, you're tormenting me here. Is this your idea of grace, Sebastian?"
"The most disgusting one is you, the two-faced one is you, and you are the root of all this evil!" I shouted.
The chaos in Sebastian's eyes dissipated, and he became hesitant to speak.
Seeing my intense struggle, he released me.
He turned his head and saw the suitcase, immediately furrowing his brow again.
"You're leaving? Where to? I can't satisfy you, so you have to go out and look for another man?" he said.
He started to mock me as usual, but when he met my indifferent eyes, Sebastian suddenly fell silent.
I let out a scoff, no longer afraid of him, and poured out many things that had been on my mind.
"You always think that Nancy had the accident because she was too heartbroken, but a little investigation would reveal that she got into the accident on her way to a hotel with her boyfriend. You're just being self-indulgent in your feelings."
"Shut your fucking mouth!" Sebastian, in a fit of rage, slapped me with all his strength.
I suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, staining the sheets red.
Looking at this man in front of me, who only knows how to escape and is hypocritical and selfish, I suddenly laughed.
I laughed at myself for being deceived by his appearance, harming so many people and ruining my own beautiful life.
Sebastian hastily stood up and turned to leave.
He suddenly turned back and threw a can of candies on the ground.
"It's for her." After saying that, he turned and left.
He wasn't even willing to mention Dora's name, nor acknowledge her existence.
At this moment, Dora was woken up. Although she didn't know what had happened, she kicked the can of candies away and said fiercely, "I don't want this gift, I don't want Dad! I hate him, I hate everyone who hurt Mom!"
I quickly wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth and carried her back to the room.
A five-year-old child wanted to protect me.
Looking at the suitcase, I felt as if my heart had turned to ashes.
This world was too cruel to us.
I wonder, if Dora and I were to completely disappear, would Sebastian feel even a hint of sorrow?
Sebastian rarely came home to begin with.
After that conflict, he directly never came back home.
My living expenses were all given to me by his butler, and he never worried that I would run away.
Because he knows that a blind person without money can't survive.
I carried Dora out the door and took her to say her final goodbyes to the teachers and classmates at the kindergarten.
Seeing her conflicted expression, I sighed.
Children all love their fathers, and she must be in agony inside.
If possible, I hope Sebastian could see Dora one last time and leave her with a final good impression.
After thinking for a moment, I pulled out my phone and called Sebastian.
"Dora misses you. Do you have time to see her today?" I said.
To my surprise, Sebastian was unusually patient and not at all annoyed.
"I'm in the hospital today and can spare some time later in the evening..." he said.
Suddenly, on the other end of the call, a woman with a hoarse voice said, "Sebastian, if you're busy, go back first. I can handle the check-up by myself."
It was Nancy! She was awake!
Instantly, Sebastian's voice became flustered.
"How could I possibly let you go for the check-up alone when your matters are of utmost importance to me? "There's nothing going on at home. She's just an insignificant person, no need to worry. Nancy, lie down now! I'll feed you."
As he continued speaking, Sebastian's voice grew increasingly distant, as if he had forgotten to hang up the phone.
This gentle and considerate voice was just like his when he was twenty, patiently talking to me from up in the tree.
He said to me at the time, "The kitten needs to be rescued quickly."
When we first met, I was captivated by his gentleness.
And now, such tenderness, he immediately gave to someone else, never to be bestowed upon me again.
Nancy recovered.
The person he truly loves has returned, and there's no need for me to exist by his side anymore.
I hung up the phone with a bitter smile, wiping away my tears.
Finally, I smashed the phone fiercely, held Dora in my arms, got into the car, and resolutely headed to the edge of the cliff.
I kissed her forehead and apologized softly.
I gave birth to her, but I never let her have a single good day.
But it was okay now. As long as we jumped, everything would be over.
After getting out of the car, I took off my shoes.
Dora in my arms was given a sleeping pill and is sleeping soundly.
I walked step by step to the edge of the cliff, looked into the endless abyss, and closed my eyes.
Sebastian, I give you your freedom.
Today, I would say goodbye to my screwed life.
