Chapter 1
In the third year of being with Vincent James, he was 22 while I was 29.
When I went to the bar to pick him up, I heard his friend ask him, "Vincent, you have been dating Wendy for three years. Are you really planning to marry her?"
Vincent smiled contemptuously, "Who would marry that old woman? I'm with her because she takes good care of me.
"She's getting older now, and every time I see her sagging skin, I want to throw up."
I went home and sat there all night.
Then I called my company and said, "I agree to be transferred to the branch."
——
After I hung up the phone from the company, Vincent returned home.
He reeked of alcohol and looked around for a while with a dazed look in his eyes.
Finally, he threw his shoes and clothes on the ground and fell onto the bed.
Seeing that I didn't offer him warm milk, he said in displeasure, "I've been back for a long time. You didn't see me?"
"I'm exhausted from work. I want to rest."
For the first time, I didn't comfort him.
Vincent didn't think much about it but just muttered, "You can't even do this well."
Then he fell into a deep sleep.
He hadn't even looked at me since he got home.
It was as if he had really had enough of me in the past three years and was tired of the fine lines at the corners of my eyes.
I looked in the mirror.
Although I still had a beautiful face, I was indeed not as youthful and energetic as I was three years ago.
I wrote the job transfer application and sent it to my leader.
It was not until noon that Vincent woke up.
Not seeing the expected breakfast, he frowned in annoyance.
"Wendy, can't you even do this trivial thing now?"
The trivial thing he was referring to was that I had cooked for him, taken care of him in every detail, and shouldered all the problems in his life for three years.
This was all my value, and I was more like a perfect nanny than a lover.
"We're out of ingredients. Let's order takeout," I said.
Vincent was stunned.
In the past, I always told him that takeout was unhealthy, and I would make everything he wanted to eat.
He pursed his lips but said nothing, then opened the app to order takeout.
After a while, he suddenly said, "I'll give you some information. Help me make a PPT. I need it before tonight."
After saying that, he curled up on the sofa, holding his phone with a faint smile.
I was surprised.
Vincent was not a person who loved studying. He once skipped classes and stayed up all night in an Internet cafe.
But recently, he often asked me to help him organize study materials and make PPTs.
Just when I was wondering, I received a friend request on Facebook.
The head portrait made me nervous because it was a photo of Vincent and another girl.
I recalled that a few days ago, Vincent changed his head portrait, which was a photo of him and me.
It turned out he had another girlfriend.
The girl's posts were full of sweetness, all about her daily love life with a boy.
I couldn't give my blessing because that boy was Vincent.
"What are you doing here? Why don't you make the PPT?"
Vincent urged me without even raising his head, his fingers rapidly tapping on the screen.
"I'm replying to the company," I said.
I flipped through the girl's posts with an expressionless face.
[The task assigned by my professor is so heavy. Fortunately, I have Vincent to help me.]
Half a month ago, Vincent urgently asked me to finish a paper within one day.
I put aside all my work and worked all night long to write it for him. I almost fainted from exhaustion the next day.
But it turned out that the paper was for this girl.
[Vincent is so nice to me. He gave me a beautiful car.]
When I saw the BMW in the picture, I laughed.
No wonder Vincent wanted my car a while ago even though I had already bought him a car.
"Wendy, why are you so stingy? As a senior executive of a big company, would you be short of a car? Lend it to me."
At that time, I thought Vincent liked it, so I gave it to him directly.
But unexpectedly, he changed the car's color into pink and gave it to this girl.
I numbly scrolled through the girl's posts one after another, feeling disappointed.
Vincent and I had been together for three years, but he cheated on me for half a year.
In the past six months, he had broken his promises many times just to accompany this girl.
I noticed that, but I just thought Vincent was young and playful.
Now I thought I was the biggest fool in the world.
Seeing that I didn't move, Vincent finally noticed something was wrong.
He put his arm around my shoulders but refused to do more.
Maybe he disliked my skin because it was not tender and youthful enough.
"What's wrong? You've been acting weird since you woke up this morning."
I didn't say anything but stared at the ring on his wrist.
Vincent's expression changed and he quickly retracted his hand.
"Don't get me wrong. My classmate left it here with me. I'm just keeping it for her temporarily."
"Fine."
To his surprise, I responded calmly and was about to go out.
"Wait!"
I turned to look at him, thinking he was going to continue explaining.
But he said with a cold face, "Wendy, have you forgotten something?"
I didn't remember what he was referring to.
"It's the beginning of the month, and you haven't transferred this month's pocket money to me yet."
Vincent's tone was very natural as if he took it for granted.
I smiled sarcastically.
I used to give him 50 thousand dollars a month, but he often thought it wasn't enough.
Now I knew that he actually used my money to support his another girlfriend.
"I'm sorry. My cash flow is tight lately, so I don't have money to give you."
After saying that, I turned and left.
"Stop!"
"It's just a ring. Why are you angry? You are not a little girl. Don't be so stingy."
Chapter 2
Vincent frowned and said some unpleasant words at will.
Seeing that my face darkened, he waved his hands helplessly.
"That's not what I meant. Wendy, you are usually very considerate. Why do you act weird today?
"The weather is nice today. How about we go shopping?" Vincent said in a condescending tone.
He used to hate accompanying me shopping.
At that time, I thought he didn't like shopping, but later I realized he just didn't want to appear in public with me as a couple.
He was afraid that my age would be discovered and it would embarrass him.
Now he took the initiative to suggest going shopping for the first time, but I shook my head indifferently.
"No, I have something else to do at the company. I'll leave first."
Vincent's angry voice sounded behind me, but I didn't coax him.
When I opened my Facebook, I received a new message.
It was sent by that girl.
[Why do you cling to a man who is seven years younger than you? How shameless you are! Vincent likes me. Please stop pestering him.]
Although these words were vicious, I felt very calm.
I was still worried whether Vincent had deceived the girl's feelings.
Now it seemed that I was overthinking.
Lucy Smith knew everything, but she still chose to be the mistress.
[It is Vincent who has been pestering me.] I replied to her.
After all, there was a seven-year age difference between Vincent and me.
If Vincent hadn't cared about me all the time before, I wouldn't have agreed to his pursuit.
But I would never have imagined back then that the boy who always said "Wendy, you are so beautiful" would now despise and hate me so much.
Ignoring Lucy's provocation, I focused on my work.
After completing almost all the formalities, I came to Vincent's university.
I came here not to find him but to visit my professor.
I got to know Vincent because of my professor.
He was also my professor's student, so I took better care of him, and slowly we got together.
Walking along the road, I suddenly heard a burst of whispers.
"Are Vincent and Lucy really together? They are such a perfect match!"
"Of course it's true. You didn't see that? Lucy sprained her ankle at the sports meeting, and Vincent carried her to the infirmary in a hurry. He also bought some medicine for her."
I felt disappointed and clenched my hands.
Not long after Vincent and I got together, he stopped caring about me.
I once stayed up late for work and drank so much that I had stomach bleeding.
I called Vincent, but he said, "Wendy, you are an adult. Why can't you take care of yourself? What's the point of looking for me? Go find a doctor."
Then I heard the sound of the game from the phone.
I thought Vincent was just young and didn't know how to care about others, but I didn't expect he would care so much about Lucy.
To put it bluntly, he didn't love me at all.
"Wendy? Why are you here?"
Chapter 3
I looked up and met Vincent's gaze.
There was surprise and discomfort in his eyes.
"Vincent, who is this?"
"My cousin." Vincent answered subconsciously.
He dared not look me in the eyes.
"Your cousin is pretty. Why don't you introduce her to us?"
Vincent's friends said with a smile but saw that Vincent's face quickly turned pale.
Then they said, "Just kidding. Wish you and Lucy happy."
After they finished speaking, Vincent's face became even uglier.
He pulled me away and said casually, "Why did you come here?"
"I came to visit Professor Lee."
Hearing that I was not here specifically to see him, Vincent breathed a sigh of relief.
"I just said that because no one knows I have a girlfriend. Don't think too much about it..."
"Okay."
Seeing that I was so calm, Vincent was surprised.
He seemed to want to say something more, but I turned and left.
Looking at my back, Vincent felt a little nervous for no reason.
But when he received Lucy's voice call, he completely put this feeling behind him.
When Vincent returned home, he saw me packing my luggage.
"Where are we going?"
"I may need to go on a business trip, so I pack my luggage in advance."
Vincent nodded indifferently, then suddenly took out a doll from behind.
"Well, Wendy, please stop being angry with me, okay? I know I made you unhappy today, so I'll give you this doll as compensation."
Vincent liked to use this trick.
Every time he made me angry, he would do this.
This was how I was fooled by his sweet words in the past.
I chuckled and took the doll, and Vincent was relieved to see me smile.
I recalled when I wanted Vincent to buy me a doll, he looked at me with an expression of shock and disgust.
"Wendy, you are almost thirty years old. Why do you like such childish things?"
That day, he walked very quickly in front of me as if he didn't want others to know that we knew each other.
I hurriedly followed him and sprained my ankle several times, but I didn't dare to say a word against him.
Vincent went to the bathroom holding his cell phone.
I opened Facebook and saw that Lucy had updated.
[Vincent gave me a lot of cute dolls, so I will allow him to take one away.]
I casually threw the doll Vincent gave me at the end of the bed.
It turned out that it was the one Lucy didn't want.
At this time, Lucy sent me a video.
After watching it, I was shocked.
In the video, Lucy was wearing my pajamas and seductively lying on my bed.
The next second, Vincent appeared in the video.
He couldn't wait to hug her. "Lucy, why do you like wearing Wendy's clothes so much?"
"Haha, don't you think this is exciting? Tell me, who looks better in this outfit, me or her?"
"Of course it's you. Wendy is old, and I'm not interested in her at all when I see her wrinkles."
The video ended here.
My hands started shaking madly.
Vincent had actually brought Lucy home and even had sex with her on my bed.
"What are you watching?"
Vincent just took a shower, with his hair still wet.
He wanted to come forward and hug me, but I subconsciously avoided him.
Vincent frowned.
Then he continued, "Wendy, tomorrow is your birthday. Shall we go out for dinner?"
I tried hard to control my emotions and said, "Okay."
Vincent wanted to say something else, but I said, "I'll sleep in the study tonight."
Without further explanation, I hurriedly closed the door.
I was afraid that if I stayed there for another second, I would vomit.
The next day, Vincent was very active.
He took me to a French restaurant, and when I was about to order, I suddenly received a message.
[Wendy, do you believe that if I call Vincent, he will leave you and choose to accompany me?]
I calmly replied to her: [Really?]
The next second, Vincent's phone rang.
His expression changed instantly and he said, "Sorry, Wendy. My professor wants to see me, so I have to leave first."
As I watched Vincent leave, I didn't even say any word to persuade him to stay.
Then I celebrated my thirtieth birthday alone.
When I opened Facebook, I saw that Lucy had updated.
She posted a video.
In the video, Vincent held a large bouquet of roses and knelt on one knee in front of Lucy.
"Lucy, I love you. Will you be my girlfriend?"
The crowd immediately burst into excited screams, shouting, "Agree! Agree!"
"Yes!"
Then the two of them hugged each other and kissed sweetly.
Vincent's friends set off balloons and fireworks beside them.
Vincent, who didn't even want to walk with me holding hands, confessed his love to another girl on my birthday.
[Wendy, did you see that? Vincent and I are together.]
[If I were you, I would want to leave him right away. How can you have the nerve to interfere with other people's relationship?]
Lucy sent me provocative messages.
I replied to her: [I wish you a happy marriage.]
Then I said to myself, "Happy birthday, Wendy."
