Chapter 2
The coroner did a DNA test, which still required an expedited day.
The police had compiled all the files from the case three years ago.
The method was extremely similar to this dismemberment case, but the killer had already been brought to justice and even executed. It was impossible for him to come back to life and kill again.
Luke still had no more clues.
He had investigated the case three years ago and had been the one to catch the killer.
This time, the same method was clearly targeting him.
"Luke, all parts except the head have been found."
Wyatt's face looked a bit pale, clearly having just vomited.
"Damn it, who could be so cruel to a pregnant woman!
"Is her family dead? Why hasn't anyone noticed she was missing for so long?"
He complained vehemently, hanging photos on the whiteboard.
Luke looked at the photos again and again, suddenly stopping at the scar on the arm.
My heart skipped a beat, praying he could remember what it was.
"What other physical characteristics does the victim have?" He pointed to the scar and asked Wyatt, "Was she abused?"
"Her family hasn't contacted us for so long, we can't rule out an acquaintance as the perpetrator."
"Check for recent domestic violence reports with these obvious tear marks."
Luke frowned, analyzing all possibilities, except he didn't realize it was the scar left by his wife desperately holding onto their daughter.
I became calm again; of course he didn't know what that scar was.
Since our daughter's death, he had never cared about me again.
Wyatt checked the recent reports and found nothing.
Luke had to analyze again from another direction. He circled the locations where the body parts were found, analyzing the killer's intent.
Suddenly, he seemed to think of something, his face turned pale, and he looked at Wyatt.
"Wyatt, do these addresses point to one place?"
Wyatt stared at the map, his voice trembling as he asked, "Luke, how long has it been since you last contacted your wife?
"How long has your wife been pregnant? Is it..."
Luke thought for a moment, realizing he didn't know how long I had been pregnant.
I found out I was pregnant at our daughter's funeral, but by then he already hated me deeply and didn't know how long I had been pregnant.
He shook his head in denial and said, "Same trick.
"Using the child to trick me?
"Last time, it cost our daughter, what do you want this time?
"Wyatt, you should call her later."
Huh, he didn't even want to give me a call, but he thought of Nora immediately.
Thinking about how he just called Nora with a gentle reminder, I felt so sad I wanted to vomit.
"Luke, do you know that you missed the truth again?"
"Luke, I can't reach her," Wyatt immediately made a call and hesitantly asked, "How about you go home and have a look?
"Even if you don't want to see her, you'll feel relieved when you see her.
"Just do it for the case? After all, all clues point to your neighborhood."
Luke wasn't a good husband, but he always cared about his work.
He didn't hesitate any longer, put on his coat, and drove home.
I followed him, urging him constantly, "Hurry! Faster!"
Only 4 hours left...
Chapter 3
Luke returned home for the first time since our daughter, Elena's incident.
He opened the door and saw that the tidy room was covered with a thin layer of dust, and he was stunned for a moment.
He sneered, "Zoey, is this your only trick?
"Why didn't you die back then?
"Do you think pretending to be a victim will make me sad? Dream on; you only disgust me!
"This is utterly boring!"
He opened every door in the room, his face growing darker.
He hesitated at Elena's bedroom door.
After much hesitation, he grabbed the doorknob and was about to open it when his phone rang abruptly.
"Luke, can you come over?
"I'm so scared, I feel like someone is following me.
"I just went to get a package. It's something my dad left for me."
Luke's expression tightened, and then he seemed to sigh in relief. "Wait for me; I'll be right there.
"Don't go down alone, I'll go with you to get the package!"
He turned and left quickly, once again missing the truth.
Elena's diary was right on her desk.
If he just opened the door, he would see what Elena left him before she died.
I had tried many times to give the diary to Luke, but he always thought I was using Elena as an excuse to see him.
It wasn't just him who hated me, I hated myself too.
"Wasn't I devastated by Elena's death?"
I cried helplessly as I watched him run to Nora's house.
It was just a wall away. The house Luke bought for Nora was next to ours.
It was ironic. He had been next door all along, and I never knew.
After being together for so long, I still couldn't compare to Nora in his heart.
In just a few minutes, Luke appeared at Nora's house.
I entered their home for the first time. It was spotless, just the way Luke liked it.
Luke had a slight cleanliness obsession and hated a messy house.
But when Elena was young, there were always toys scattered around, and he would frown and complain while tidying up.
When Elena grew up, she said a spotless house didn't feel cozy at all.
Elena deliberately added some toys to the corners, and Luke reluctantly accepted it.
He must have really liked a house like this.
Nora saw Luke rush over and threw herself into his arms, trembling, "Luke, did I interrupt your work?
"But I'm really scared. I'm sorry, it will just take a moment, just a moment."
Luke hesitated for a moment, then held her tightly, as if trying to give her strength, gently patting her back.
What a perfect couple. I wondered how they would feel if they knew I was watching from the side.
I smiled self-deprecatingly. "Luke, I always thought work was your top priority, but it turns out Nora was.
Did you forget what you were going to do when you went home?"
"It's okay, I'm here.
"They must have found out about our relationship. Don't go out unless I'm with you.
"Their target is pregnant women, and you happen to be pregnant!"
Nora's eyes twinkled, and she looked at Luke innocently and said, "Luke, thank goodness for you!
"Otherwise, I wouldn't know what to do!
"Have you found the killer? You need to be careful too!"
At the mention of this, Luke gritted his teeth and said hatefully, "He's extremely provocative. I will catch him!"
"What about your wife? Luke, are you really not going to check on her?"
Nora raised her eyebrows, seemingly mentioning me on purpose.
Luke was a bit impatient, "Why is today so unlucky, with so many people mentioning her?
"If she died, I'd be relieved. If it weren't for her, Elena wouldn't be like this."
He said while gently touching Nora's belly, "But it's okay, Elena is back. I'm relieved she's in your belly."
Nora chuckled and held Luke's head, slowly bringing it close to her belly.
What a heartwarming scene.
How could Elena be reborn in Nora's belly?
She's the one who caused her death!
Without Nora, Elena would still be alive!
The two cuddled for a while before going out to get the package. The others would think they were newlyweds.
The package!
I suddenly realized. "My head was in the package!
Huh, Luke, you'll see me soon."
