Chapter 1

On the day of our wedding anniversary, I rolled down the steps from the third floor when I was pregnant. My husband, Darrel Roderick, was so scared at that moment. He hugged me tightly and ran to the hospital.

When the second tube of anaesthesia was injected into my body, I was confused and heard the conversation between the doctor and the remote monitor in the operating room.

“Mr. Darrel, we have done the anaesthesia you ordered. After taking more than six times the amount, your wife can't feel the pain anymore. It's just that the symptoms of the fetus are normal now. Do we really need to take measures to induce labour? Not only will the fetus die of suffocation, but it may also cause your wife to be paralyzed for the rest of her life, Mr. Darrel.”

Darrel's cold voice sounded, “Do as you are told.”

The doctor was a little surprised to hear Darrel's words. The doctor then looked at me with a look of helplessness.

Darrel explained, “It will soon be the critical period for Edmund to enter the Roderick Family Ancestral Hall. We can't let anyone threaten his position and status. This is what I owe Karina and her son, I cannot refuse to repay it. After Edmund gains a foothold in the Roderick Family, I will devote all my strength to cure Giselle and get a baby with her again, which can be regarded as compensation for the harm this child has caused to her.”

He stared sharply at the doctor. He said firmly, “And this child must die!”

A tear slowly slipped from the corner of my eyes at that time. I then lost consciousness completely.

When I woke up, the already-formed baby died of breath at birth. I also separated the pubic bone due to strong pulling during the delivery process and finally hemiplegia.

The immense pain was intertwined with the shock of betrayal. So when Darrel was ready to take me to start a new life, I did not hesitate to leave him.

——

After the operation was completed, I fainted again after learning the bad news. When I was vaguely conscious, the voice of my husband and his best friend vaguely entered my ears.

“Giselle has been with you for so many years, Darrel. Don't you understand her? Even if you tell her that Edmund is your biological flesh and blood, she will definitely treat him as if it's her own, so why toss her into this mess like this?”

After a long moment of silence, Darrel’s slightly cold voice slowly sounded, “I understand what you mean, but I can't afford to bet. This is what I promised to Karina Reverie.”

Darrel took a breath for a while. “And there is no child to be reborn. Giselle Siegfried is still young. But I promise we will have our own children in the future.”

The strange man was puzzled. “You're just worried that Giselle's child will be legitimate and the pressure from the Siegfried Family will threaten Edmund's ability to recognize his ancestor and return to his hometown, right?”

“You are so cruel! The baby in her belly has taken shape, Darrel. When I was carrying it out of the operating room, I saw such a tiny ball. How can you bear it?”

Chapter 2

Hearing this, I felt like I was still tangling with the my pain of tearing around me. The cry of the child lingered in my ears, constantly slashing heart. It was so painful at that moment.

“Not to mention the fact that Giselle is still paralyzed because of this surgery. She is your wife! She worked so hard to carry a baby for nine months. How hard is it for you to understand, Darrel? If she hadn't been disobedient and had her pierced secretly, she wouldn't have ended up in this situation.”

Darrel seemed to sigh, “Allowing her to have a child of her own is already a concession from Karina. Do you think I don't feel sorry for her? But I owe the Reverie Family, what do I have to do?”

The man pressed his voice in anger, “Then you shouldn't have messed with Giselle Siegfried in the first place!”

The two of them parted on bad terms. I was even shedding tears silently where they couldn't see, not even daring to make a sound.

“Is it all taken care of?”

I felt that Darrel was helping me adjust my bedding. “The sealing fee was more generous so that they would not have to return to the country.”

He sent all the relevant personnel who gave me the surgery abroad, which was really a thunderous method.

I laughed at myself and refused to open my eyes for a long time. I thought he was looking forward to the arrival of the baby just like me.

So when I fell downstairs, I hated myself. I even took my own disability as a price and put my back on the ground without letting my stomach touch any sharpness.

But I didn't realize that all of this was set up by Darrel Roderick! It was he who threw oil on the way I must go through and deliberately let me have a miscarriage. He even set up an executioner in the hospital early.

I said in my heart, “What a ruthless heart.”

I was really proud of my husband. I believed that I was in a true marriage. Unfortunately, it was fake!

In order to have an illegitimate child, Darrel could personally settle his own flesh and blood with me. Just so that he could enter the ancestral hall and obtain the right to inherit so that he could fulfil his bullshit promises.

Thinking of this, I shivered all over. But the pain spreading under my body was not as good as one in ten thousand of the heart.

Perhaps the emotional fluctuations were too much, so Darrel came back. He saw a ball of bulging mass on the bed in a slight tremor. He immediately hugged me tightly.

His tone was one of indescribable regret, “Giselle, we will definitely have another child! Please, trust me, okay? I will do everything I can to cure you. So, don't cry, okay?”

Darrel kissed my forehead with great affection. “As soon as you cry, my heart will be broken.”

My eyes were staring ahead with vicious eyes, not daring to look back. I was afraid that my intense hatred would give him insight.

Chapter 3

“Do you really have a broken heart?”

Darrel straightened my shoulders at this time. I could see the tears on his face and the reddened ends of his eyes.

“How can I not be heartbroken? I love you and I also love our crystallization.”

Darrel looked at me intensely. “I'm more than anyone else looking forward to the baby coming to this world. If something happens like this, I'm the most painful thing, Giselle!”

I couldn’t believe the man in front of me was really too good at acting. No wonder, I couldn't see past his despicable disguise all these years.

When I think about when he first found out that I was pregnant, he was ecstatic, like he had suddenly gotten the ultimate treasure. Darrel was so happy that he couldn't sleep all night.

Later, I was even more meticulous during my pregnancy. Even though I went up the stairs, I was so energetic that I took care of myself. But who would have thought that at that time, he was already planning for the illegitimate child outside?

Darrel was already asleep, but his phone rang. He had a message.

[Darrel, thank you for the things you sent. Edmund likes it very much.]

I was curious at that moment. After my fingerprint was unlocked, my pupils suddenly shrank. I was stunned for a while and let the tears as big as beans fall.

All the clothes I prepared for the baby were changed to the size of the child by Darrel a month ago. Even the villa that I wanted to give to the baby has been inhabited by Karina and her son.

The background of his chat was the garden of the villa with the family of three sitting on the swing. They looked happy. It made my heart numb with pain.

Furthermore, it was a good day when Darrel asked the teacher to calculate a good date for Edmund. Fortunately, there were still three months left.

I closed my eyes tightly. My mouth then felt bitter.  These three months were enough for me to leave quietly.

“This dress was specially customized by the designer I asked, absolutely no one will see anything wrong with you.”

My lower body was slightly deformed and even with a cane, I could see the signs of paralysis. Seeing that my eyes were red, Darrel immediately came forward to ask.

I shook my head. “It's okay, Darrel. I just thought of when we first met, you were also so attentive.”

When we first met, I fell down from the mountain and cut my arm. He also carefully prepared a cool summer long-sleeved dress so that I could attend the coming-of-age ceremony.

It was also his meticulousness that impressed me, allowing me to travel thousands of miles to marry him in Luxembourg City. He smiled dotingly and squatted down to wipe my hand.

“I will treat you better in the future, Giselle. Please, don't think too much, okay? I won't dislike you.”

If I hadn't heard those cruel truths with my own ears, I wouldn't have believed that the gentleman in front of me would be the murderer of flesh and blood. I was silent for a while.

He was also an enemy who forced me into a desperate situation. I had to follow the disguise and deliberately pretended to be seriously paralyzed to make him relax his guard.

I knew him very well, even if Karina and her son entered the door, he would not be willing to let me go. I contacted my best friends. I then found a hospital to help me treat the basics.

I said to myself, “Giselle, remember that you must be discovered by Darrel, okay?”
