Chapter 1

Six years after losing my memory and being taken in by the Lawson family, my husband, Jack Lawson, brought his childhood sweetheart home.

She was beautiful and understanding, and everyone liked her.

Not only did Jack favor her, but our two children also called her "Mom" behind my back.

Due to the extreme sadness, I actually got my memories back.

Since the Lawson family felt that my presence was unnecessary, then I might as well go home and be the heiress of the powerful Miller family again.

Since the Lawson family felt that my presence was unnecessary, then I might as well go home and be the heiress of the powerful Milton family again.

I packed the luggage that I was going to take home with me.

Sophie Lawson came running into the room after coming back from the hospital.

She was a little taken aback when she saw the bandage on my head. Then a disgusted look appeared on her face.

"Mom, you must apologize to Wendy. She just went to the parents' evening in your place, but you put drugged in her food, causing her to still be lying in the hospital right now. I won't see you as my mom anymore if you don't go apologize to her!"

I looked at Sophie indifferently and said with a careless attitude, "Alright, then don't."

Sophie was stunned at my words. She then said provocatively, "The end-of-term writing task topic is 'My Mom', but I wrote about Wendy."

In the past, I felt that Sophie was a little angle, but now...

"Wendy Shaw can soon be your mom. Your wish will come true," I said coldly.

The ungrateful bastard in front of me was my biological daughter.

I could still remember the fact that I nearly died in the delivery room giving birth to her.

The fortune teller that my husband, Jack Lawson, brought said that Sophie would bring bad luck to the family and that was the reason for my hard labor.

This caused Jack to want to send Sophie away.

Back then, I went to reason with Jack while I was still extremely weak.

"I'll make sure to kill whoever dares to send my daughter away even if it costs me my life!"

Jack only gave up sending Sophie away after seeing how determined I was to keep her.

However, he wasn't willing to spend any time with Sophie.

He said that girls would only have to be good-looking and marry a good husband.

However, I insisted on educating Sophie the best we could, so that she wouldn't be looked down upon in the future.

Sophie liked playing the piano, so I hired a world-famous pianist to be her mentor.

When Sophie was preparing for her Grade 8 piano exam, Wendy Shaw suddenly showed up.

"A child should have a happy childhood. Adults shouldn't pressure their children with the things that they weren't able to accomplish."

Because of the way Wendy "cared" for her, Sophie stopped all her future piano lessons and practices.

However, Sophie was very grateful. "Mom forces me to practice the piano every day, so that she could show off to the others. You're the one who truly cares about me, Wendy."

Wendy even took Sophie shopping and bought makeup.

I felt that Sophie was too young to put on makeup as it would damage her skin. This caused Sophie to become impatient. "You're just doing this because you think Wendy's better looking than you and now that I've become prettier as well, you're jealous! This is because you think you're just someone who has no memories of your past. You look down upon yourself. You're just using me to gain Dad's favor."

I knew Wendy told her to say these words to me, and combined with Jack's indulgence, this caused Sophie to say such mean words to me without any fear.

With that thought in mind, I remained indifferent listening to Sophie speaking up for Wendy.

"Sophie, how could you say such words to your mom?" Jack opened the door.

He only pretended to tell Sophie off after hearing the conversation between us.

Then he started pinning the blame on me. "How could you do such a thing as a mother, Laura Milton? Why have you become so selfish and ruthless?"

His gaze landed on the suitcase on the floor. "And you even going to put on the run away from home act now?"

Sophie ran towards Jack and held his hand.

"Mom has hurt Wendy, but isn't willing to apologize."

When I saw Jack's face darkening, I couldn't help but think back to the time when I had just arrived at the Lawson family.

When others bullied me because I had no memories of my past, Jack would always stand up for me. "Whoever bullies Laura in the future will be kicked out of the Lawson family!"

However, ever since Wendy arrived, I realized that he treated her way better than he treated me.

When it came to the parents' evening in school, no one notified me and they allowed Wendy to attend in my place.

I cared about my children's grades, so I asked her what did the teachers say, but Wendy didn't seem to know anything.

I became desperate and blamed her for not listening to what the teachers said. This led to her being poisoned and becoming unconscious later on in the evening.

The servant, Linda, pointed at me. "I saw Mrs. Lawson going into the kitchen and adding something to the food prepared for Miss Shaw."

Jack grabbed my collar without hesitation. "Laura, don't you think you've crossed the line? I'm already starting to regret marrying you. Wendy has only gone to the parents' evening in your place once and you're already so jealous of her and nearly killed her! I can't imagine what our two children will become in the future if you're allowed to raise them."

Being slandered like that by him infuriated me. "What can you teach them then? Are you going to teach them to betray the people closest to them and cheat on their spouses?"

Jack became impatient and pushed me.

I stumbled and bumped into a cupboard nearby.

One of the decorations on the cupboard fell off and landed on my head. Blood began trickling down my face.

Jack was a little taken aback. He walked over and wanted to check on me, but he seemed to have remembered something and stopped.

"You see? This is punishment for what you've done," he said coldly.

I sat down on the ground whilst my head continued to spin. In the end, I blacked out.

When I woke up again, I remembered everything about my past.

Chapter 2

"Is Mom leaving?"

Ian Lawson came skipping over from behind Jack.

He blinked at me, then started sobbing. "I don't have a mom anymore... Mom, don't go..."

Sophie reached over and smacked her little brother on the head.

"She's gone. But Wendy will be our new mom."

The moment Ian heard this, he immediately stopped crying. He wiped the tear stains off his face and looked up, breaking into a smile.

"Great! I like Wendy the most."

"Wendy is gentler than Mom. She doesn't force me to study."

Ian had always been mischievous and willful. I had taught him to be humble, honest, and kind.

But ever since Wendy appeared, she insisted that children had their own nature and shouldn't be overly controlled by adults.

"Laura's way of teaching is too overbearing."

She indulged Ian's mischief, and even when he bullied other children, she shamelessly used the Lawson family's power to force the victims' parents to apologize to Ian instead.

"Boys should be brave. If someone bullies you, you fight back. That's what it means to be a man."

Hearing this, Ian became even more reckless.

I had spoken to Jack about it, warning him that this would spoil the child.

But he dismissed my concerns. "Children are naturally pure-hearted. You're the one seeing people in a bad light."

In the end, I became the villain, while Wendy was seen as the devoted woman who had given her all for our family.

"So be it. I'll make way for Wendy. The four of you can be a happy little family of four. I won't be in your way anymore."

Looking at the man before me, I finally said the words I had been holding back.

"Let's get a divorce."

He furrowed brows tightly—a look he always had when he was displeased.

"I won't divorce you," he said. "You never think about the consequences of your actions, but I won't go along with your madness."

I couldn't help but laugh.

"Ever since Wendy came, she's been getting mysteriously injured. You all think I'm the one hurting her. Well, if I leave, won't that be perfect? No one will harm your precious childhood sweetheart anymore!"

Hearing me say I wanted to leave, Jack's gaze darkened.

"You're not allowed to go anywhere."

I was just about to tell him that I had regained my memories.

This was not my home. I wanted to return to where I truly belonged.

But before I could say anything else, Jack continued, "There's actually one more thing—Wendy has kidney failure. She urgently needs a transplant. There's no suitable donor right now, but you and Wendy share the same blood type."

My heart skipped a beat.

"I've already given her everything, and now you want my kidney too?"

So that was why he refused to divorce me. He wanted my life!

"Why don’t you want to save her, Mom? Wendy is so pitiful!" Ian chimed in, adding fuel to the fire. He didn't understand what a kidney transplant meant.

He just thought I should do everything to save Wendy.

"Mom, please help Wendy this time. Maybe if Dad is happy, he won't divorce you," said Sophie.

"You always taught us to be kind. Why won't you be kind now, when it's your turn?"

The two children were completely siding with Jack.

"I refuse," I stared coldly at Jack and repeated myself.

No wonder he had been at the hospital with Wendy but suddenly returned home.

"What right do you have to take my kidney for Wendy? If you love her so much, give her your own kidney!"

Seeing that I refused no matter what, Jack sighed, as if helpless.

"Laura, if you hadn't poisoned Wendy, she wouldn't have kidney failure. This is what you owe her."

He waved his hand, and his bodyguards rushed in from outside.

They pinned me down, forcing me toward the hospital.

"Jack, are you trying to kill me?" I struggled desperately. "Jack, I've regained my memories. If you hurt me, my family won't let you get away with it!"

But he completely ignored me.

"Laura, stop pretending. I'm your husband. How could I hurt you? It's just a kidney. If you save Wendy, the kids will be grateful to you. Our family can still be together."

The three of them—father and children—watched coldly as I was dragged away by the bodyguards.

Even as I was strapped to the operating table, as the icy anesthesia flowed into my veins, I still struggled furiously, cursing them all.

Just before I lost consciousness, I suddenly heard a commotion nearby.

Then, everything went black.

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in an unfamiliar room.

"Don’t worry, Laura! I won't let the scumbags of the Lawson get away with this!"

"You're finally awake!"

A tear-streaked woman beside me held my hand in joy.

"Am I dead?"

I instinctively reached for my waist—my kidneys were still there.

A group of unfamiliar people stood around my bed.

"Silly child, you're home now. I'm your mother. As soon as we got your call, we sent people to monitor the Lawson family. We never expected that bastard, Jack, would actually try to steal my daughter's kidney for his mistress!"

Hearing my mother curse in anger, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief as I grabbed her hand.

My good days were finally back!
