Chapter 5

Upon reaching the Wolvesmith's Base, the person in charge, Hunter Regan, came to welcome me.

"Mr. Presley, you're finally here! Our wolves are waiting for you!"

Then, he immediately noticed my injuries. He asked hesitantly, "Mr. Presley, are you alright?"

I replied with a smile, "I'm fine. I'll be working here from now on. This will be my home."

I was orphaned from a young age. My parents abandoned me when I was little. I craved love, but it no longer mattered.

Hunter took me to see the wolves. A dozen wolves were kept in a fenced area. He said that a family owned those wolves, but the wolves were too ferocious and would often sneak out to hurt people, so they wanted me to train them.

Perhaps, I did look intimidating. When I arrived, the wolves stopped howling. A few even cowered in fear.

However, a few bigger ones stared at me with hunger gleaming in their gazes.

I scanned around to see that I had all the tools I needed. I picked up a whip. Those bigger wolves were still standing their ground. They growled at me threateningly.

Hunter looked at me with fear. "Mr. Presley, I know how amazing you are, being the best Wolvesmith in the country at such a young age, but these wolves are truly terrifying. You don't have to."

Before he could finish his sentence, those few wolves tried to escape the fence. Hunter was so frightened he yelped and retreated.

I quietly walked over to them, never taking my eyes off them.

Whenever they growled or howled, I hit the ground loudly with the whip. In a few short moments, they quieted down and looked at me with a whimper.

Hunter cheered and applauded me.

At that moment, Jack appeared with Rosa's bunny, Bubbles. "Fred, you're amazing! I'm truly in awe!"

He walked over to me while stroking Bubbles. "But, you can't train humans the way you train wolves."

I ignored him and patted the ferocious wolf through the fence. The wolf let out a few obedient howls.

Jack continued nonchalantly, "Rosa's a strong woman. She doesn't go for your violent behaviors. She prefers the softer type. Someone like me. Haha!"

I looked at him icily. "What are you trying to say?"

Jack said slowly, "Bubbles is like a daughter to me and Rosa. If it weren't for the love letters going missing, do you think we would have been apart for so long?" He came closer to me.

The wolf next to me suddenly got all agitated, glaring at Jack and Bubbles. He was hungry. I had a bad feeling.

Bearing through the pain, I shoved Jack away. "Get lost!"

Jack retreated backward, but Bubbles sprang out of his arms.

"Bubbles!" I called out in fear, trying to catch the escaped bunny. There were wolves everywhere, not to mention a huge gap beneath the fence.

I knew how much Rosa cared for Bubbles. Bubbles was with us for a long time. She was family to us.

Bubbles fled in exasperation. I bent down, trying to grab it, but my injuries prevented me from bending down.

All I could do was stand and watch Bubbles running into the wolf's den. The wolves' gaze lit up when they saw food.

I tried my best to stop the wolves, but we barely got to know each other. They wouldn't listen to me.

I watched in horror as the wolves tore Bubbles apart from limb to limb.

When Rosa arrived, she saw Bubbles being eaten alive, leaving only a few tufts of fur on the ground.

"Bubbles!" She wailed and fell to the ground, grabbing onto the last few tufts of fur.

She sobbed and wailed loudly for a long time before looking up at me with resentment in her eyes. "It's all your fault! You killed Bubbles!"

Chapter 6

I was still in a state of shock, never expecting that Bubbles the bunny would be eaten alive.

Rosa staggered to her feet. She rushed over and grabbed me by the collar, yelling, "Fred Presley! I was wrong about you! You're a monster! A heartless monster! Bubbles's an innocent creature! How could you feed her to the wolves!"

I clutched my forehead. My head was throbbing. "Let me explain. I didn't hurt her. It was Jack—"

Slap!

Rosa slapped me on the face, glaring at me with reddened eyes as if I were her enemy.

"Jack? He was the one who gave me Bubbles. Do you think he would feed her to the wolves? I know you don't like him! I know you're jealous, but I can take it! Bubbles is a living being! How could you be so cruel? You're a monster!"

She hurled accusations one after the other, completely shutting me up. My numb heart was no longer beating, but the pain was still so excruciating it almost crushed me.

I clutched my heart. My injuries tore open again. Blood was seeping through the bandages. The wolves didn't dare to make any noise. They retreated back to a corner.

Jack said with reddened eyes, "It's fine, Rosa. Our daughter's dead. I'm fine. Don't yell at Fred. He didn't do it on purpose."

Daughter? Bubbles was their daughter? Then, who am I...to her?

I suddenly snickered before bawling into a maniacal laugh. Rosa looked at me in shock. "How dare you laugh! Get lost!" She shoved me away with a tearful gaze. My injured legs hurt even more, so much so that I fell to the ground.

Hunter quickly came over to help me up. "Mr. Presley, are you alright? Mrs. Presley, it wasn't Mr. Presley who did it!" He tried explaining on my behalf frantically.

Jack interrupted, "Fred, don't worry about it. Rosa's just overwhelmed with rage. I'll talk to her."

The culprit pretended to be generous and forgiving. I laughed sarcastically.

Rosa looked at me with contempt and disappointment. "I'm not overwhelmed with rage! Fred, I want a divorce! I no longer want to see you!"

Hunter helped me up. I was no longer smiling. My eyes gleamed icily. "Rosa, you'd better not regret your decision. Also, you should check properly if that man is married or not."

Rosa ignored me. She glared at me with resentment. "I'll never regret it!"

I was relieved to hear that. This time, I was truly done.

Hunter kept persuading me on the journey back. "Mr. Presley, it was just a misunderstanding. Why didn't you explain it to her?"

I smiled bitterly. "If she still believes me, she would have listened to me."

When I returned to the hotel, I signed the divorce papers that Philip prepared for me a long time ago. I packed all of my belongings, not planning to leave anything behind.

Philip returned to the country, Innerland. I told him to pack all my belongings in our apartment. I'd leave it for Rosa, since I was not going back anymore.

Rosa perhaps thought that I would have returned to Innerland, but this had nothing to do with me anymore.

We were together for six years, but the ending was written in stone. The truth did not matter anymore.

From the moment Rosa kissed Jack, from the moment she took Jack's hand and led him away from the wolf's den, the crying lady that I first met was gone.

She died in my memories. She was gone.

The ironic thing was, Jack was already married to another woman.

Looking at the vast grassland of Chicily, I left.

Rosa suddenly felt a pang of panic as if she lost something. When she returned to the room, a gust of wind blew the divorce papers off the table to the floor.

She picked them up to see my signature on them.
