Chapter 2

Walking along the road to the bridge by the river, the rustling river breeze made Lidia's skirt flutter.

With so many guests at the engagement party, why did it have to be Jeffry who saw them off?

She had long stopped caring about her indifferent parents. From a young age, Jeffry had been her whole world—her anchor, her guiding light.

But that time, watching him like this, that light seemed to flicker, growing just a little dimmer.

It was difficult to get a taxi without her mobile phone, so she walked aimlessly on the streets for several hours in her seven-centimeter-high stilettos.

Her heels were rubbed to a bloody mess and her toes were covered in blisters as she arrived at the downstairs of her new villa.

Lidia used the spare key placed at the door to open the door of the villa.

But as she turned on the light, she saw the leather shoes and high heels placed at the entrance.

The shoes were placed randomly, as if they had only stayed there for a moment before they walked inside eagerly.

The whole villa was dim, so she did not intend to turn on the overall lights.

Lidia just directly took off her blood-stained white rhinestone high heels and walked upstairs gently, lifting her skirt.

As she approached the door of her new bedroom, she heard the voices of a man and a woman talking.

“Jeffry, isn’t it exciting to have sex with me in this new bedroom after leaving my sister behind?”

“Did it satisfy you so much, little liar? How could you dare to pretend to faint at the banquet just to flirt with me? Tell me, you have been thinking about these things since the first, right?

Through the open door, Lidia saw with her own eyes that her fiancé, who was supposed to be in the hospital and her step-sister were having sex in bed.

She opened her eyes wide and watched intently as the two of them had sex in various positions.

Lidia tasted the saltiness in her mouth and realized that it was her tears dripping down and sliding into her mouth.

It tasted very salty and bitter.

Through their conversation, she realized that the engagement party was not the first time they met.

Unbeknownst to her, Jeffry fell in love at first sight with Pamela, who was born in a slum.

The two became addicted after sleeping together and began a three-year entanglement.

He stayed with Pamela every day and night when he was on a business trip.

The gifts he brought back from his business trip were the ones Pamela picked out but did not want anymore.

Even when he was with her, he would find time to call Pamela to coax her.

Jeffry chose to marry her simply because they were a good match.

But that time, since Pamela's identity had been revealed, there was no need to hide it anymore.

Lidia thought she and Jeffry would be sweet and happy forever. But it turned out, it was just the best choice after he weighed the pros and cons.

Lidia pinched her palm hard and refused to let go until the pain and numbness became hers.

Jeffry's unconditional protection of Pamela was more painful than the slap in the face at the engagement party that day.

More than ten years of relationship and six years of romance were shattered by that slap.

Her heart was filled with intense pain and her mind told her that she had to give up this man.

But marrying Jeffry was her goal since childhood and she fantasized about having an extremely romantic wedding with him.

Lidia had looked forward to that day in her dreams countless times and made a lot of efforts for it. She did not want all her efforts to be for the benefit of others.

But the groans of the two made her heart surge with pain. The time she wiped away her tears, she made up her mind to give up the man she had loved for more than ten years.

Jeffry had already been guilty and she would never forgive him again.

With this engagement, Lidia decided to put an end to their relationship and made a break with everyone in the family.

She leaned against the door and looked down at the message on her phone.

[Your biological parents are overseas nobles with assets worth tens of billions. You are their sole heir. As long as you return, their entire fortune will be yours. Here are their phone numbers and photos. Contact me whenever you’ve made your decision.]

Some time ago, she had been receiving messages from overseas numbers. She thought it was a scam and never believed it.

But what her parents said that day, as well as the photos they sent her, made her waver.

It was a photo of a couple in front of a castle and she looked somewhat like both of them.

Her birth information was also attached. So, she believed they were her biological parents.

Her fingertips gently stroked their cheeks and her heart ached.

The cheating was done in the room and the two of them were leaning against the head of the bed and chatting.

“Pamela, now that you are the daughter of the Lester Family, do you want to marry me? The Lester Family and the Hopkins Family are willing to hold another engagement party for you.”

Even if she had decided to give up on Jeffry, but after hearing these words of betrayal with her own ears, Lidia's heart still ached so bad.

Even the bitterness rushed to her throat and the tears that had just stopped flowed out again.

She looked inside and saw Pamela lying coquettishly in Jeffry's arms, looking up and talking to him.

“Humph, still dare ask me? I was so angry today when I saw you two holding your engagement party, you know.”

She turned over angrily.

“I deliberately let my parents reveal my identity at the engagement party just to disrupt your engagement party. So, I don’t care about whether you will marry me or not.”

Jeffry reached out and grabbed her body, holding her tightly in his arms and gave her a barrage of kisses behind her ears.

“Little liar.”

Pamela's body softened after being kissed.

"Jeffry, I always knew my past status wasn’t worthy of you, so I never dared to dream of marrying you. But I also knew you loved me—just as I love you.

“I never imagined I would become a Lester, nor did I ever expect a day when we would stand as equals."

Pamela tightened her grip on his hand, her voice soft yet resolute. "But you and Lidia have been together for years. If you break off the engagement because of me, it will undoubtedly tarnish both families' reputations."

She lifted her gaze to him, eyes unwavering. "Honestly, I don’t care about status. As long as we can be together, that’s enough for me. And right now, at this moment, I’m content—even if it’s like this."

Hearing the girl's affectionate confession, Lidia's heart felt like it was being torn apart.

The deep affection between the two was so deep and loyal that she, the legal fiancée, seemed like a mistress.

Jeffry hugged Pamela tightly with heartache as he said, “Pamela, I will treat you well for the rest of my life. I promise!”

He kissed her lips devoutly, solemnly and seriously after that.

Lidia kept watching until her eyes became sore, her lips were bitten by her and the taste of blood spread in her mouth.

Jeffry treated her very well, but three years ago, he became particularly perfunctory in his intimacy with her.

If she offered him a kiss, he would turn his head away indifferently without responding.

Even when they were entangled in love in bed, he would not take the initiative to kiss her.

The details that were deliberately ignored were completely clear at this moment.

It turned out that he did not love her anymore.

In the blurred vision, the two of them entangled again on her new bed and the moans were endless.

Lidia clenched her palms tightly. No matter how painful it was, it was nothing compared to the pain in her heart, until she could hardly breathe.

The bedroom that belonged exclusively to them had been entered by the hands of a third party at that moment.

Chapter 3

Lidia walked out of the door like a ghost, came to the window of the outdoor room with her shoes in her hand and sat on the ground.

With her hands tightly hugging her knees, tears falling one by one. She suppressed her tears, feeling desperate and sad.

“Pamela, I love you.”

“Jeffry, I love you too.”

Amidst the sounds of their lovemaking, she cried silently.

Lidia saw the bloodstains on the heels of her high heels out of the corner of her eye and suddenly realized what was going on. She started laughing and crying.

This was a unique birthday gift that Jeffry specially asked an Italian craftsman to customize for her, a pair of silver-white high heels inlaid with 99 diamonds.

When she tried them on, she felt that they were one size too small. Jeffry said it was a mistake on the part of the craftsman and that he would order a new pair if they did not fit.

But she liked it very much and wanted to wear high heels to the engagement party, so she rejected his proposal.

The first time she wore it, her feet were rubbed until they bled.

It also made her realize that the owner of these shoes might not be her.

At the entrance, the fallen high heels were the same length as the silver-white high heels.

She stroked the shoes gently. No matter how beautiful the shoes were, they were useless if they could not be worn.

There was no need to marry someone who was not the right one.

At some point, there was no sound in the bridal chamber and the villa fell into darkness again.

Passing by the trash can at the gate, Lidia raised her hand and her high heels drew an arc and fell into the trash can.

When Lidia returned to the bedroom, even though the windows were open for ventilation, she was still greeted by a bad smell as soon as she walked in.

She sat by the window without turning on the lights and dialed the overseas number.

The one who answered the phone was her biological mother. She promised her mother to go abroad to inherit the family property and the other party helped her to complete various procedures and identity in the country.

She sat quietly by the window for a long time, until the lights in the room turned on.

“Lidia, why are you sitting on the ground? You are wearing a skirt and the ground is cold.”

Jeffry quickly walked over to her and pulled her up. When he saw her cheek, his expression looked a little unnatural.

“Does it still hurt? I didn't mean to do that. I hit you today for your own good.”

Jeffry was still wearing the suit he wore during the day. He raised his hand and stroked her cheek, very gently.

“Your parents brought up this shameful matter at the engagement party, which is bad for you. If you stop me from sending her to the hospital, it will only make your reputation worse.

“Besides, you have lived in the Lester Family for more than 20 years. Pamela is your biological sister. Taking care of her a little more is also to restore your reputation.

“She was frightened today. I just sent her home. Lidia, please be more generous.”

Jeffry, who had always been taciturn with other opposite sexes, said so much for Pamela at that moment.

In just three years, he seemed like a completely different person.

She looked at him and suddenly felt very strange.

The two were childhood sweethearts and she was the only exception for Jeffry.

This exception changed starting three years ago.

It was obvious that Lidia had always been by his side and she was involved in all his joys and sorrows.

Why would he betray her for a woman he had known for less than three years?

Seeing that she was silent and her eyes were red, Jeffry could not bear it.

He admitted that he had been a little too harsh that day out of impatience and had lost face for her in front of so many guests.

He sighed and held her in his arms.

“Lidia, your identity is different now, but don't worry about the wedding. I will take care of everything. You just need to be a bride peacefully.”

Jeffry was gentle to her. Seeing that she was angry and ignored him, he hugged her and coaxed her for a long time.

He thought if he would have to coax her for a long time, Lidia would be fine. But she remained indifferent, so he was surprised and felt a little uneasy.

Lidia used to be very sensitive and would get jealous if he said a few more words to the opposite sex.

That day he carried Pamela away in public, thinking she would ask questions.

He took two steps back and sat on the bed. She nestled in his arms and he saw her bloody heel at a glance.

“Why didn't you tell me you were injured? I'll go get the first aid kit.”

Lidia sat quietly on the new bed where they had just made love, looking down at Jeffry holding her bruised feet and carefully picking out the pebbles from the soles of her feet with a cotton swab.

“It hurts a little, but don't be afraid, I'll be gentle to you.”

A cotton swab soaked in hydrogen peroxide gently wiped the red wound. Lidia shrank back but did not make a sound.

Jeffry raised his eyes and saw the red lips with teeth marks, so he said, “Don't be so shy in front of me, just scream when it hurts.”

Lidia was in a daze for a moment. In the many times she was hurt in the past, Jeffry was by her side, treating her wounds and allowing her to rely on him without worry.

But how did he do it, cheating with another woman and slapping her in public. Who was he showing this to?

If he was afraid that she would find out, why did he bring her back to the bridal chamber to do that?

She was not even a daughter of the Lester Family. Was it necessary to drag on this scene for so long?

Was he not tired of pretending to be a gentle person in front of her for three years?

Chapter 4

“I'm sorry that I treated you badly at today's engagement party. I promise to give you a grand wedding and make you the happiest woman.”

Jeffry’s touch was impossibly gentle, his tone soft as if he were holding something precious and irreplaceable.

It was almost a given, yet he waited for Pamela’s response before he spoke.

She had said she could stay by his side even without marriage. So, if that was the case, he could still marry Lidia.

But love? He cherished Pamela, yet even if his feelings were merely obligatory, he would never utter those words.

Lidia tried to stay composed, but the silent heartbreak was unbearable. Tears spilled down her cheeks, yet she could not find the strength to say a single word.

Jeffry thought she was crying with joy and breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she behaved well, he did not mind being nice to her.

After the wound was treated, it was already early morning.

Jeffry answered a phone call, said something quickly and was about to leave.

Before leaving, he kissed her on the cheek.

“Lidia, don't think too much, take a good rest and wait for the wedding day to come.”

After he left, Lidia raised her hand and fiercely wiped away his traces.

Her gaze shifted from the perfectly healed wound to the large engagement photo hanging on the bedside table and she smiled to herself.

The happiness of the two people in the engagement photo was blinding, but the fact that had already happened slapped her in the face.

She took out her mobile phone and bought a plane ticket for the same date as the wedding, which was half a month later.

She decided that on that day, she would wear the wedding dress she had chosen herself and completely disappear from Jeffry's world.

As the phone screen was locked, Lidia looked around at everything in the bedroom.

They bought this villa as a new home for the couple. She was the only one who oversaw the decoration and purchased all the items by herself.

She moved in after the decoration was completed. Jeffry lived in Hopkins’ house and would occasionally come and live with her.

Lidia looked at the big bed covered with a red wedding quilt and felt it was dirty and disgusting.

She limped and began to pack her things, but there were too many things. After several hours, she still had not finished packing everything in the new house.

The new house was in a mess and the bedding was torn into a mess.

Lidia was so tired that she just found a guest room to lie down.

She opened the calendar on her phone, looked at the wedding date circled with a love heart and silently counted down.

Half a month, after half a month, she would be able to leave there completely.

After suffering too much stimulation during the day, Lidia had many bizarre dreams when she slept at night.

At a 18th-year-old coming-of-age ceremony, Jeffry looked at her seriously as he stated, “I will love Lidia forever, I will always protect her, I will never let her get hurt and I will never let her cry!”

He fulfilled his promise seriously, treated her gently, never let her cry and spoiled her like a little princess for years.

But then the scene changed, Jeffry pushed her away, hugged Pamela in his arms and made a scene on their marriage bed.

As she opened her eyes again, it was already bright outside.

Jeffry sent her a message saying that there was something going on at the company and he would not be back for the week.

She wiped away the tears from her dream and put away her phone indifferently.

It took her five days to throw away almost all the wedding supplies in the new house and she also threw away many of the gifts Jeffry had given her.

From the figures, albums, dolls, or jewelry, she threw them all into the trash can.

She sold a lot of furniture and the new house, which had been decorated festively, became empty.

Early that morning, Jeffry returned there and thought he had come to the wrong place after entering the door.

When he opened the bedroom door, he found that all the things inside had been put away. It looked empty and the engagement photo on the bedside was nowhere to be seen.

He looked around again and then found Lidia sleeping soundly in the guest room.

She curled up in the quilt, which was a very insecure posture.

He gently woke her. “Lidia, what happened to the bedroom layout and the things in the house?”

Lidia replied calmly, “I don’t like them anymore.”

Jeffry misunderstood, assuming she was merely dissatisfied with the arrangements.

His expression softened as he reassured her, “I see. That’s fine. Take your time and arrange everything the way you want before the wedding. It’s all up to you—I’ll go along with whatever you decide.”

With that, he got up and said casually, “I’m going to take a shower.”

Before leaving, he forgot his mobile phone beside the bed and went to the bathroom outside to wash up.

The phone was set to vibrate and kept ringing with a message every time.

Lidia picked it up and opened it, entering her birthday to unlock it, but the password was wrong.

She paused for a moment, entered Pamela's birthday and successfully unlocked the phone.

Lidia found out that it was a person with the nickname Mel who had been sending messages.

[I miss you so much. Why did you leave so suddenly? I still want you to hold me while I sleep tonight.]

[Guess whether I am wearing black or white stockings today? If you answer correctly, you will get a reward.]

[Oh, the underwear you bought for me is nice. I will use it, since you tore up almost all of mine before.]

Below were many large-scale photos, showing legs wearing sexy stockings and breasts wrapped in sexy lingerie that only covered the key parts, which was charming and seductive.

It turned out that the company he mentioned had something going on was to be staying with Pamela every day.

They talked intimately about sex and were in constant communication.

“Jeffry, you really damn scumbag!” Lidia could not help muttering angrily.

She just felt a sense of weakness sweeping over her body, making her unable to even hold the mobile phone.

The next second, the bedroom door was pushed open.

Jeffry, who was only wearing a bath towel, came in and wiped his hair. When he saw this scene, his face changed slightly and he quickly stepped forward to snatch the phone.

A rare hint of nervousness could be heard in his voice as he asked, “Lidia, what did you see?”

Lidia lowered her head and asked calmly, “Is there anything I can't see?”

Jeffry sat down beside her and held her in his arms. “Of course not. Just watch whatever you want.”

He handed her the phone with the operation completed. “What do you want to see?”

“Nothing, I went to sleep.”

Lidia spoke in a faint voice, slipped out of his arms and turned her back to him.

Jeffry held the phone tightly, feeling that Lidia was a little strange.

In the past, she would even make a fuss when his screensaver was changed.

But he changed the screen lock password and she did not even ask.

He glanced at the message Pamela sent him, replied casually, put away his phone and laid down next to her.

His hot breath fell on her neck and his soft lips kissed it lightly.

Lidia's body froze and she subconsciously turned around and pushed past him, saying in a hurried voice, “Jeffry!”

“What's wrong?” Jeffry held her hand, “Lidia, are you still angry? There are a lot of things to do at the company, but I am also preparing for the wedding.”

Lidia felt that her neck was already dirty after being kissed by him. She did not want to explain any more and lied, “My period.”

Jeffry's face looked better and he held her in his arms as he said, “Okay, I won't touch you today, go to bed early.”

He hugged her tightly, listening to her heartbeat in his ears, Lidia tossed and turned in sleep.

She could sense that the man was still replying to messages on his phone in the dark. She rolled away from his arms without noticing, but was held back by his arms.

After trying several times, she gave up completely.

In ten days, she could leave him completely after all.
