Chapter 1

If I had known that Elvis Austin was coming to my house for dinner today, I would have left with my suitcase earlier.

Elvis was currently the helmsman of the Austin Group, outstanding in ability, and a hot and eligible bachelor.

Even my dad, an old fox who had been in the business world for years, spoke highly of him.

When it came to Elvis, it was just continuous praise.

Because of this, with the existence of Elvis, this perfect and flawless man, my dad had never approved of my boyfriend Jeff Barber.

To prove that my judgment was correct and that Jeff and I were truly in love and would not be swayed by materialistic things like money, I didn’t ride in luxury cars, carry designer handbags, or wear brand-name clothes.

Now, from head to toe, I was just ordinary and plain.

If it weren’t for my best friend, Sarah Austin, suddenly calling and saying she was coming over, I would have been ready to catch the school bus with my suitcase.

“Isabella, I heard that you had worked with your boyfriend again this summer vacation?”

“Yes.”

For the whole summer vacation, I worked as a cashier in a convenience store, while Jeff found a translation job because of his good grades.

The living room, which was already quiet, became even quieter because of Sarah’s words.

I subconsciously glanced at Elvis sitting on the sofa. I couldn’t see his expression clearly, but I could clearly see his hands typing on the keyboard.

“Isabella, why are you staring at my brother like that? He’s working and doesn’t have time to listen to us.”

What?

I just saw Elvis’ fingers pause.

“Brother, we’ll go to school.”

“Okay.”

His voice was as cold as his person.

I grabbed the luggage at the door, pulled my best friend, and left without even saying hello to my dad.

Sarah refused to take the bus with me and insisted on driving me in her cool sports car.

“Let me get off at the intersection near the school.”

“I know. I won’t disturb you on your disguise game.”

I opened the car door, waved goodbye to my Sarah, and blew her a kiss to thank her for giving me a ride to school.

When I arrived at the school gate, I saw my classmates with backpacks and suitcases. Only then did I realize that I was in such a hurry that I only brought my suitcase and forgot my backpack.

What a miserable thing! I didn’t want to go back and see Elvis.

Under the scorching sun, I silently walked to a shady corner, took out my phone, and prepared to persuade my dad to ask the driver to bring my backpack to me.

Summoning up courage, just as I was about to make a call, I saw a familiar figure getting out of a luxury car out of the corner of my eye.

I looked up and took a careful look, and I was dumbfounded.

Jeff got off a Mercedes-Benz, which should cost two or three million.

I hadn’t heard that Jeff had such a rich friend. Could it be a hitchhiker?

I was about to go up and ask, but the next second, I saw Jeff running to the other side and opening the car door with a bright face.

A woman came out of the car. Then she held Jeff with a shy look and leaned on him.

Speaking of which, I had been dating Jeff for half a year, and we hadn’t been this intimate. At most, we just hold hands.

Damn it, had I been cheated on?

Countless thoughts were swirling in my mind. For the sake of Jeff, I had let go of my identity as the Carlson family’s young lady and became a laughingstock in the socialite circle.

I didn’t expect Jeff to be this kind of scumbag.

Jeff, who was far away, hugged the woman and helped her with her luggage, looking very pleased.

The people around them cast envious glances at them.

Maybe because my gaze was too intense, Jeff looked at me for a moment.

His eyes were calm, without guilt, apology, or panic. He walked into the school with that woman and had no intention of explaining.

I really wanted to smash his head with my phone.

Just as I was about to rush over, I heard a mocking voice from behind.

“Isabella.”

Huh?

I turned around and saw Elvis standing not far behind me.

I was panicking. How long had he been here? How much did he see?

Elvis walked towards me step by step, his eyes filled with amusement.

“Why did you find a boyfriend in the garbage dump?”

Damn it! He saw everything.

When Elvis left, there was a mysterious smile on his face, and he seemed to be mocking.

When I saw that, I almost crushed the suitcase handle.

He must be laughing at me.

After all, when I made a bet with my dad, he was also there.

Chapter 2

I turned around and immediately walked towards the school without delay. I had to find Jeff and ask him.

Just as I walked downstairs, I saw Jeff waiting for me there.

I met Jeff a year ago when we were helping a classmate during a gathering.

At that time, I didn’t have any feelings for him, but later, Jeff kept appearing around me.

He saved seats for me, helped me get food in the cafeteria, and even gave me warmers and hot soup during my period.

Finally, I decided to be with Jeff.

From childhood to adulthood, the people around me had always used money to solve problems. It had been a long time since someone had been as good to me as Jeff.

And so, I was moved and got together with Jeff.

Now I wanted to slap myself. I was so shallow to be moved by these things.

When I stood in front of Jeff, he still had that calm and composed look.

“Jeff, you’re quite good. Aren’t you afraid of getting caught?”

Jeff looked at me with indifference and disdain, without the deep affection and care he used to have.

“Isabella, you don’t have to say it like that. I didn’t understand love before, but now I’ve found true love, so of course I have to pursue it bravely.”

True love?

I laughed like crazy, “Just because she let you ride in a Mercedes-Benz?”

Jeff’s eyes changed as if he was surprised that I recognized that car.

I really wanted to smash the keys of my luxury cars in his face.

“You’re wrong. Not only did she let me ride in a luxury car, but she also introduced me to her second brother, the helm of the Austin Group.”

Luxury car? Was that a luxury car? Also, I remembered that Elvis only had one younger sister, Sarah. When did he have another one?

“Isabella, we are destined to be people from two different worlds. The family of Wendy is something you will never be able to understand in your lifetime. You are too poor.”

“When you pursued me, you didn’t say that.”

As soon as I finished speaking, Jeff’s eyes showed a hint of uneasiness.

“Isabella, we are not children anymore. We need to be more mature. I am also a normal man.”

Hearing this, I remembered the implications of Jeff’s words during the previous outings.

“Did you sleep with her?”

Jeff did not answer, nor did he deny it.

Okay, his expression had answered me.

“Jeff, remember, it was me, Isabella Carlson, who dumped you. If you regret it in the future, don’t come back to find me.”

It was really unlucky. I actually treated this scumbag as a treasure. I must be blind.

He knew the helm of the Austin Group? Look at how proud Jeff was now.

Back in the dormitory, I called Sarah on the phone.

“Are you sure your family only has one daughter?”

“What are you asking? I am the only daughter in my family. What’s wrong?”

“Today I met a woman who claimed to be the sister of Elvis. She is also Jeff’s mistress.”

“What the hell! Jeff actually dared to cheat on you! He even found a rich girl from the Austin family?”

“Wait for me. I’ll go check the background of that woman. Do you remember the license plate number?”

“Yes. I’ll send it to you on WhatsApp.”

I wanted to see who that woman was.

During this period, I received a call from my dear father.

His tone was unabashedly joyful, “Isabella, congratulations on getting rid of that scumbag!”

It must be Elvis who told my father.

“To celebrate your breakup with the scumbag, I will transfer some pocket money to you. Spend it as you like, and don’t make yourself suffer.”

My dad waved his hand and directly transferred thousands of dollars to me.

This breakup seemed to be not bad.

Sarah was also very helpful. She found that car, which indeed belonged to her family. It was just borrowed to the cook a while ago.

Sarah hadn’t found anything about that woman, but she was sure she definitely had no relationship with the Austin family.

Chapter 3

Lying on the bed and playing with the phone, I had an indescribable feeling in my heart.

I was not because I was sad. I just felt ridiculous. I had actually quarreled with my family because of Jeff.

I must have been blind.

Thinking of Elvis’ mocking words, I couldn’t sleep even more, and I had insomnia all night.

As long as I closed my eyes, Elvis’ face appeared.

Early the next morning, with deep dark circles under my eyes, my eyelids kept twitching.

I had a bad feeling.

Just as I sat up from the bed, I saw my roommate coming into the dormitory with a pile of materials in her hands.

“Isabella, why haven’t you gotten up yet?”

My roommate looked surprised.

Why couldn’t I sleep? It was still early, not even noon yet.

“Aren’t you looking for an internship?”

Oh, I remembered. It was the last year and everyone was looking for internships.

“Have you found one?”

“No, it’s not that easy. I’ve sent out a lot of resumes and been to many interviews, but there’s just no suitable one.”

My roommate looked disappointed.

If we hadn’t broken up, I would probably be worrying about internships too.

Now, my dad was over there. He would definitely help me.

“I wish I could join the Austin Group.”

No matter where I went, I could always relate to Elvis.

“Why do you have to join the Austin Group? There are other good companies too!”

Like my family’s company.

My roommate shook her head and said, “The Austin Group is the best of the best, especially Mr. Austin. He’s young, capable, and has a business mind. He’s definitely a top bachelor!”

Looking at my roommate’s intoxicated expression, I really couldn’t bear to shatter her illusion.

“I heard that Mr. Austin is also going to be over thirty. Is that young?”

“This age is the most charming time!”

Well, it was true that Elvis did look quite handsome.

At this moment, a phone ring interrupted our conversation.

“Dad, why are you calling me again? Are you trying to mock me?”

“No, I love you so much. How could I mock you? I just want to tell you that I have found an internship job for you. This time, I have gone all out for your job, even sacrificing my reputation!”

I was just thinking about asking Dad to help me find a job, and he had already done it!

“Thank you, Dad. I will work hard and not let you down.”

“You’re working at Elvis’ company, so I can rest assured. Learn as much as you can!”

What? My dad found a job in Elvis’ company for me?

“Alright. I have to go to a meeting now. Remember to go to Elvis’ family for registration tomorrow!”

The beep sound from my phone didn’t even give me a chance to refuse.

Before I could even lament my miserable fate, I heard my roommate shout.

“Isabella, your boyfriend Jeff is amazing. He actually got an internship at the Austin Group!”

“What? Where did you hear the news?”

My roommate looked at me in surprise, “Don’t you know? He posted on Instagram!”

“I don’t know. We broke up.”

Jeff had actually unfriended me. He was really fast.

But it was just a coincidence that we would be colleagues starting tomorrow.

I was looking forward to the future internship life.

In the evening, I went out to dinner with Sarah and told her about going to work at her family’s company tomorrow.

“Isabella, why are you so desperate to follow in my footsteps?”

“What?”

Next, Sarah started her one-hour-long complaint.

It made me confused.

“Have you already gone to your family’s company for an internship?”

“You used to only care about that scumbag boyfriend in your heart. You never cared about me!”

I couldn’t retort.

I thought it should be that Sarah couldn’t adapt to the work life and exaggerated it too much.

In order not to discourage her and to compensate her, I bought her the two bags she had been eyeing for a long time.

Early the next morning, I put on my newly bought dress.

I picked up my new bag, drove my new Aston Martin, and headed straight to the Austin Group.

Speaking of which, although this was Sarah’s family company, it was my first time coming here.

Looking at the magnificent building in front of me, I fell silent. Now I agreed with what my roommate said.

The Carlson family was indeed slightly inferior to the Austin Group, just a little bit.

I walked into the gate and went to the front desk to report my name.

I didn’t know if it was just my imagination, but I felt like she became even more polite after hearing my name.

“Miss Carlson, please wait a moment.”

“Okay.”

The receptionist made a phone call, and soon someone came down to pick me up.

Were interns treated so well now? Was there someone specifically here to pick them up?

I took a look and felt like my soul was about to leave my body.

Why did a lowly intern like me need Elvis’ assistant to pick up?

Dad, what kind of job did you find for me?
