Chapter 5
The taxi stopped in the garage area. “This is where they like to be left. You should have a key that fits that elevator over there; her name should be on the inside next to the keyhole telling you what floor she's on, good luck."
I looked at the taxi driver because one: how did he know this? and two: she had no intention of taking him beyond the elevator. I opened his wallet and looked through his money. I shook my head at the fact that I only had several $100 bills. I took out a hundred and handed it to the driver, "Keep the change," I winked at him.
A big smile spread across his face, "Thank you, miss."
"Do not mention it; You can thank him next time.´´
I opened the door and grabbed his arm pulling him out of the cab. I put his arm around my shoulder and walked him to the elevator. She kept stumbling as she walked with him. I looked in his pocket for his keys. It was that awkward moment when I reached into his side pocket and felt something semi-hard that wasn't his keys. I pushed the elevator button and he looked at me.
"You are a beautiful woman and I am going to fuck you very hard," he said as he grabbed my butt. I won't lie: I sighed and removed his hand from my ass, "Only in your dreams honey, only in your dreams."
The elevator opened. I walked him inside and looked at the different keys on his key ring wondering which one would fit in the elevator. I turned to him as he leaned against the back of the elevator, "Can you show me which key goes here?" He gave me a drunken smile and seductively he took the key ring from me; he chose which key and held it up. "Thank you," I smiled.
I inserted the key into the lock next to his name as we went up to the top floor. The elevator doors opened to the biggest and most beautiful penthouse I've ever seen. Ok, it was the only penthouse I'd ever seen, but it was still beautiful. My intention was to lean it against the wall, leave it there, and walk away; I suppose he would pass out on the floor and wake up in the morning; that was until he looked at me and said he was going to get sick. I rolled my eyes when I asked him to take me to his room; I figured that would get his attention real quick. He pointed to the stairs and I clung to him, trying to hold him up as he climbed each step. We finally made it to the top when I saw a bathroom on the left. He didn't make it. He vomited all over his clothes. I shook my head because this was an all too familiar sight.
I rushed him into the bathroom where he leaned in and he hugged the china for a good hour. I stood there admiring the beauty of his bathroom. The taupe walls and black granite countertops gave it a classic yet luxurious look.
I found a washcloth and ran it under lukewarm water. I walked over to him as he sat against the wall with his head down. He smelled like vomit, and I had to make him change his clothes.
"Come on, friend; Let's see if we can change you. I put his arm around me and with a little help from him; I picked it up off the ground. We walked down the hall to his bedroom. I opened the double doors that led inside and was shocked; His bedroom was bigger than my entire apartment. I carried him to the king size bed and sat him down.
"You're an angel?" he stammered as he gently rubbed my cheek. His skin felt warm, and his touch felt nice, too nice since he gave me goosebumps.
I took my hand away from him and said "Yeah, I guess I am."
He smiled drunkenly and flopped down on the bed. He knew this was going to take some work, trying to get her clothes off, but he couldn't let her sit in his own vomit all night. First I took off his shoes and socks. I climbed on top to straddle him and unbuttoned his shirt, rolling him from side to side and extending his arms. It probably would have been easier to take off his shirt in the bathroom, but I didn't think of that. I went down to the button of his pants; oh god I can't believe he's doing this. I thought about leaving him lay there and sleep, but his pants took the brunt of his vomit and he genuinely smelled awful. I unbuttoned his pants and lifted his hips so I could take them off. It was a struggle, but I finally made it.
I couldn't help but look at his body sculpted of him as he lay almost perfectly naked in just his black silk boxers. I'm just a human, right? He was lean, muscular, and perfectly defined from head to toe. I felt dirty standing on his body swooning from him looking at him, but no one should look this perfect, it's just not right. She needed to move it to his pillow. I put the cold cloth on his head and he moved. I grabbed him under his arms and pulled him as best I could. I put him on his side, but he was still throwing up a lot again; a small moan escaped from his mouth. I found a blanket, on a chair in the corner of his room, and covered him with it. I sighed and looked at the clock on the nightstand; it said 1:00 a.m.
She was exhausted and desperately needed some sleep. That's when I realized I never told Penny I was leaving. I ran down the stairs and grabbed my bag from the table. I pulled out my phone and saw a text from her.
"Berth told me what you're doing, and I know you like to play Good Samaritan, but I'm worried, as soon as you see him text me back." I responded quickly.
"I'm fine; I managed to get him home, and he's passed out in his bed. He's heading home now; I'll talk to you tomorrow."
I stood in the hallway and looked up the stairs. Memories flooded my mind when I had to walk back to his room to check on him one last time. He had rolled onto her back, so I rolled him back onto her side. His bed was so comfortable that I decided to sit next to him and make sure he stayed on his side for the rest of the night. Maybe that way maybe he'll get some sleep. I fell asleep in an instant.
I woke up from a dream I had about my father. I quickly sat up, but my brain hadn't fully registered where he was. I took a good look around the room and saw him sleeping peacefully. I shook my head in disbelief that I fell asleep for so long as he directed me to the bathroom. I splashed some water on my face and drank some mouthwash I found in his cabinet. I ran my fingers through my hair and went downstairs. I should have left right then, but he needed coffee, and he would need it, too, when he woke up.
I walked towards the kitchen and stopped short. The mahogany cabinets with dark gray granite countertops were absolutely stunning. A large décor was located in the middle of the kitchen with a built-in stove on one side, while three stainless steel ovens were built-in facing the other wall. I found what I needed and made a cup of coffee. I had a recipe for a hangover cocktail that my dad used to make every day. I looked at the kitchen and surprisingly it had everything you needed to make one. I had my back to the door, making my hangover cocktail, when I heard someone clear their throat. I startled and slowly turned around.
He was standing in the middle of the kitchen in a pair of black pajama pants that hung low on his hips and outlined his muscular frame. I swallowed at the sight of him standing there, hungover and still looking as amazing as he did last night. He looked at me and cocked his head to the side.
“Didn't I go over the rules with you last night?
"Hey?" I frowned.
“I don't do sleepovers. You were supposed to leave after I fucked you; So would you mind telling me why you're still here in my kitchen getting so comfortable and making coffee?
His tone was arrogant and crude, obviously he didn't remember anything that had happened the night before, but he didn't expect him to. His green eyes looked dark and angry, but he will have to get over it; I didn't have time for that. I set the glass of hangover drink on the counter and slipped it to him. He narrowed his eyes at me.
"I asked you a question and I await an answer."
I sighed and rolled my eyes, “Listen buddy; I don't know what you think happened last night, but you didn't fuck me; I would never give you the pleasure of having done it with me; Trust me.” Ok, he was lying, I would have given him the pleasure, but he didn't need to know that. He cocked his head and narrowed his eyes at me.
“You drank yourself into oblivion at the club last night, and they kicked you out. He was walking outside when it happened and being the good person that I am; I called a taxi to make sure you got home safely. You then proceeded to vomit on yourself so I had to take you to the bathroom and take your clothes off because frankly you smelled so bad." He raised his eyebrows.
“I was walking out the door when I decided to check on you one more time. I went back to your room and you were lying on your back so I turned you back on your side in case you threw up; I wouldn't have wanted you to choke to death. He changed his stance and crossed his arms. “I fell asleep from exhaustion after dealing with you, and when I woke up I decided to make you a cup of coffee and a hangover cocktail. I was leaving in a few minutes and I didn't expect you to be up for at least a few more hours."
He took a few steps closer, "So you're telling me that nothing happened between us?" I rolled my eyes, this man didn't hear a word I just said.
“No, nothing happened; He just needed to make sure that you were going to be okay; you were terribly drunk.” I looked down.
"What is this?" he asked himself as he took the glass.
“Just drink it; You will start to feel better in about 15 minutes. I'll get you some coffee and I'll go.
I started to feel a little dizzy as I picked up a cup and it slipped out of my hands and crashed to the floor.
"It can't be," I said as I bent down to pick up the broken pieces.
“Hey, you're going to cut yourself,” she walked up to me and leaned in.
"Sorry," I said, shaking my head and picking up the broken china.
"Stop now!" commanded her voice.
Her voice was surprising, but I didn't listen because it was my mess and I was going to clean it up. He grabbed my hands and turned them over to pull the broken pieces out of them. Our eyes met when he saw the scars on my wrists. I backed away quickly and stood up. He kept picking up the pieces. I took my bag from the counter.
“Sorry again about the cup. I'll replace it for you, and I hope you feel better." I turned around and headed for the kitchen.
"Wait," I heard him say.
I turned around and looked at him. "At least let me pay you for the inconvenience last night."
"I'm not going to take your money, and it wasn't a problem." Ok, it was, but he's alive, and I feel better knowing that he probably saved his life. He rolled his eyes, "Then at least he has a cup of coffee before you go." I sighed. I really needed it, and a cup wouldn't hurt.
"Okay, one cup and then I'll be out of your house."
He returned to the kitchen and put the mug on the table. He drank his cocktail and frowned the entire time. It was funny to see the disgusted look on his face. He leaned over the counter and looked at me.
“Why the hell would you help me like that? What if I was a bad person? What if I had hurt you while drunk?
I laughed, “You couldn't do me any kind of harm even if you wanted to. You were so drunk last night, you were staggering and couldn't even stand up; I barely got you home. He ran a hand through his hair.
“You shouldn't be doing that kind of thing; It's not safe in this town for a girl to do such a thing." He seemed agitated.
Leaning my elbow on the counter, I rested my hand on my cheek and watched him intently as he lectured me. He stopped what he was saying and narrowed his eyes at me, "Are you listening to me?"
I laughed as he lifted me from the chair, “Thanks for the coffee, but I have to go now; I need to get home. I grabbed my bag and started walking towards the kitchen exit.
"Have a lovely day Mr. Frost, and please don't drink so much next time." I could hear his footsteps following me behind.
"Would you mind telling me your name?" The elevator doors opened; I went in and turned to tell him.
"It's Emily," I told her as the door began to close.
Chapter 6
I went out to the bright sunlight and looked at the sky. I smiled as I waited for the taxi to arrive. He kept thinking about Jack, in his silly rule that women stayed at night and appearance. There was something in him that stirred my stomach. I couldn't stop thinking about his tone and how angry he was when he first saw me. Although I suppose I could not blame him; It would probably be in the same way if a strange man was in my apartment when he woke me up.
I entered the door of my apartment, threw my bag and gave myself a hot bath. He was exhausted and desperately needed to sleep a little. I longed for the comfort of my pajamas and my bed. I sent a text message to Penny to let him know that he was going to take a nap and call her when she woke me up. If I didn't send him a text message, he would probably call me or came, and just wanted to be alone tonight. I looked at the clock and it was 3 in the afternoon. I had a sleeping plan until 5 pm, make a quick dinner and paint a little.
I started a blow to the door. I looked at the clock and it was 5:30. It can't be, I slept more than I wanted. I got up and headed towards the door.
"Penny, I said that I would call you when ..." I opened the door and to my surprise it was not Penny, but a young man who held a little white.
"Are you Emily White?" asked. Suddenly, I got nervous; It sounded serious.
"Yes, I'm Emily White."
The envelope gave me, "this is for you."
I took the envelope of his hand. He smiled and moved away. My stomach began to make knots. I didn't know what to expect to find in the envelope, and who was sending me something anyway?
I slim my finger from the top and took out the piece of carefully folded paper that was inside, he said: "Miss White, I will properly thank her services last night, I will be waiting for her in Restaurant Le Sur. My driver will pick it up promptly at 7: 00 P. M. Jack Frost. "
First, how did my address knew and secondly, why is the hell so bossy? I should have had that feeling of vine, but for some reason I did not have it. I quickly erased it from my mind when I saw that I wanted to have dinner in the South.
Since Matt and I moved here, we have never been able to enter that restaurant. People reserve months in advance. I called Penny immediately.
"Hey girl, what happens?"
"Do you remember the boy I helped home last night?"
"Yeah…."
“He wants to thank me for helping him, for what he will send his driver to pick me up to meet him in Le Sur at 7:00.
"That?" She shouted on the phone. "Emily, who is this guy?"
"His name is Jack Frost."
I heard it gasp: “Are you joking, Emily? Do you know who Jack Frost is? I frowned and crowd my face.
"Should not?"
“Do you live in a bubble or something? Jack Frost is the executive director of Hélix companies. He is a 30-year-old mega-millionaire who took care of his father's company when he was 28. My God, Emily, is attractive, is rich, and wants to invite you to dinner? He could hear the emotion in his voice.
“Penny, first of all, I'm not interested in any boy right now. I am in the free zone of men, especially after what Matt did to me. This man, Jack Frost, is rude, bossy and does not have an apex of respect for women. ” He didn't want to tell him what he told me about his earlier rules that day.
“That is because it can be, Emily; He is rich and sexy. ”
I turned my eyes to that last comment and said goodbye. I didn't feel like going out tonight and wanted to paint a little, but it was South and I was dying to go there, so I made an exception.
I searched in my closet trying to find something to put on. I took a black dress that I wore at a friend's wedding a couple of years ago. It was simple with fine straps and v neck. I put on some light makeup and put my hair half collected, letting the loose curls of the back fall in cascade around my shoulders. I put on a little shine on my lips and looked at the clock, it was 6:58. I looked in the mirror for the last time and went out the door.
Sitting on the sidewalk there was a black limousine with a man supported against her. "Miss White, I guess?"
"Yes, I'm Emily White," I smiled when he opened the door and helped me enter. I got comfortable within limousine. I felt like a princess on the way to dance. I looked forward where the driver was sitting.
"Excuse me, but what is you called?"
He looked at me in the rearview mirror, "Denson, Madam."
“Enchanted to meet you denson; Is Mr. Frost always so bossy? I asked politely.
He smiled and shook his head, "Mr. Frost is used to getting what he wants." I put my eyes blank and looked out the window, of course he does.
I entered the restaurant and approached the desk where a tall and red -haired woman asked me if I could help me.
"Good night, I have a meeting with Mr. Frost," I replied. Instantly, his eyes looked like daggers when he said: "I understand, follow me." The red -eyed redhead led me to the back of the restaurant to the table where Jack was sitting. He saw us come and stood up. He approached and took out my chair. Ok, until now it has manners.
"Good night, Miss White, I'm glad I decided to accompany me."
I wanted to tell him that he was only here to experience the restaurant and that if he had chosen another place, he would not have attended. I sat in my chair while he walked towards his.
He wore an extremely expensive dark gray suit. Her skin kissed by the sun shone more than she remembered this morning and her hair was perfectly combed in the disheveled form that was fashionable and turned on any woman, including me.
"Good night Mr. Frost, thanks for inviting me, but it was not really necessary and please call me Emily."
He stared at me, "Can your name be Emily, right?"
I took a sip of water, "Yes, my friends call me Emily."
He took his menu and opened it, and I was surprised by the following words that came out of his mouth.
"But we are not friends, Miss White."
Ok, I retire the whole issue of man's manners, it is frankly a rude guy.
I opened my menu. "Very well, then, Mr. Frost, why don't we limit ourselves a bit? I think Miss White sounds much better, and also, do we come to dinner? I saw him smile from behind the menu.
"If it is true, you are right. You can ask for whatever you want, you think you have not eaten in weeks." I looked severely.
"As very well every day, Mr. Frost, that's something that is not of his incumbency." Suddenly he seemed intrigued while leaving his menu.
"It's just that you're very thin."
What is the problem of this man? First, he says we are not friends; Then he calls me anorexic.
“This is how I was born; I've always been thin. ”
He pressed his lips when the waiter approached the table with a bottle of Grigio Pinot. He poured the wine in each glass and proceeded to take our order. I looked at Jack as he sat there looking at me; I was getting intensely uncomfortable, but exciting me at the same time. My heart began to beat quickly and a family pain rose from below. Only two can play this game.
"So what is your story, Mr. Frost?" He took his glass of wine to his lips and took a sip, without taking my eyes off me.
"My story?" He simply asked.
A little smile escaped my lips, I replicate: "Yes, your story."
“What can I say, nothing interesting. I am a 30 -year -old executive director, I have more money than I will need my whole life; I am not very good with relationships; Usually, I get everything I want and do everything I want. ” I sat there looking at him as long as he boasted.
"Now that we clarify it, what is your story, Miss White?"
“I don't have a story Mr. Frost; I am 23 years old; I moved here with my boyfriend just over a year ago; Part -time work in a small record company; I paint paintings and I am voluntary in the benefit dining room. ”
He sat down and reflected on whether or not I wanted to ask me the next question. "What does your boyfriend think about me?"
“No, we are no longer together. He moved almost 3 weeks ago, ”I looked at the table.
I could feel a little sympathy in his voice, "Oh, can I ask how long they were together?" I found particularly strange that I was trying to be so personal.
“We were together 4 years; We met at the university and moved here from Michigan. ”
He raised his eyebrows, "4 years is a serious period of time." I decided to expose everything to him since it seemed so interested; It didn't matter anyway, I would probably never see him after tonight.
"Yes, he arrived at home a day and said he needed space, packed his suitcases and left." He knew the real reason he left, but he was not going to tell Jack.
I think he had an internal fight with his following words, and that took me by surprise.
"I'm sorry I did that."
I stirred my hand in front of my face. "It doesn't matter, there are things that do not last forever."
He was surprised by my choice of words, but it was the truth and I was not afraid to say it.
Chapter 7
Le Sur was just as beautiful as I thought it would be. The atmosphere was impressive with its low lighting and romantic atmosphere. The marble floors were exquisite as were the paintings that hung on the walls representing Paris. The tables were covered with satin tablecloths and the meals were served on delicate china.
"Do you like it here?" Jack asked when he noticed him looking around.
“Yes, it is a beautiful restaurant”, I answered smiling.
The waiter brought our food as Jack was about to ask me a question. "You say you're a volunteer at the soup kitchen, may I ask why?" The look on his face told me that he was a little intrigued by it.
I took my knife and fork and cut into my chicken as he proceeded to answer his question.
“I like to help people who need it; you should know that by now, Mr. Frost.
He shook his head, "Yeah, was that a dumb question?"
"I had a difficult childhood and let's just say no one was there to help me." His eyes never left mine; he listened carefully to every word I said.
"What about your parents? They didn't help you?" I looked down and away from him, trying to find the right words.
"My mother died of cancer when I was six years old and my father was an alcoholic who passed away just before my eighteenth birthday."
The expression on his face changed; He went from hard to soft in a matter of seconds.
"Is that why you helped me last night because you think I'm an alcoholic?" he asked him. I took the last bite of my dinner and put down my fork.
“No, my father choked on his vomit during one of his drunken nights. I found him dead in his bed the next morning. I didn't want the same fate for you. What people don't realize is how easy it is for something like this to happen. I spent my entire life taking care of my father, who was absurdly drunk almost every night because he couldn't get over my mother's death, so helping people is second nature to me.”
I did not know what to say; I think I surprised him. He raised his glass and motioned for me to do the same.
"Well thanks for your help last night, as angry as I was this morning to find you standing in my kitchen, I appreciate it."
"You're welcome," I smiled.
As we were leaving the restaurant, I noticed several women looking at Jack with what appeared to be lust and desire in his eyes. Some were licking their lips as we passed, and others were looking him up and down. It was pretty disgusting, but I could see why they did it. It was certainly something to admire. We got out and I looked at him.
"Do you want some ice cream?" Asked.
He looked at me with a puzzled look like I was crazy or something.
"No, I don't want ice cream, I'll take you home and then I have to be somewhere." Here comes his rudeness again, he surprised me it took so long.
"Oh come on, accept my invite, I know this cute little ice cream shop a couple of blocks away that's open 24 hours."
"Miss White, I don't want any ice cream, now get in the car so Denson can drive you home." His tone was adamant.
I started walking down the street. I wanted ice cream. If he didn't, that was his problem, but he was getting going to try them with or without him.
I waved my hand as he pulled me away, "Thanks again Mr. Frost for dinner, see you sometime."
"Miss White, come back here," he yelled down the street. I rolled my eyes and kept walking. Suddenly, he was next to me muttering, "Miss White, I'm not telling you to get in the car again."
I stopped and turned to him, poking my finger into his chest, “I don't take orders from anyone, Mr. Frost, especially people I've known less than 24 hours. I am not your responsibility. You thanked me for my help with a nice dinner, and now it's time to part ways. I'm going to buy ice cream and then I'm going to call a taxi to take me home."
He stood there in a daze, unable to speak. I kept walking, and he followed me. I heard him on the phone, “Denson, I think we're going to get ice cream; I'll call you when we leave. The tone of his voice was angry.
“You don't have to come with me if you don't like ice cream,” I said.
"I never said I didn't like it, I just don't want ice cream right now."
"Then why are you following me, Mr. Frost?"
"It's not safe in this city for a beautiful young lady to walk alone, especially at night, how many times do I need to explain it to you?"
I caught the "beautiful" part and couldn't help but smile. My feet were starting to kill me in my 4-inch heels, so I abruptly stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and kicked them off.
"What do you think you're doing?" he asked him.
“I'm taking my shoes off because my feet are killing me,” I said as he used his arm for balance.
"Are you going to walk barefoot on this dirty sidewalk?"
I laughed, "Yes I will Mr. Frost." I could tell he hated the idea; he was so prim and proper. We walked to the door of the ice cream parlor and I put my shoes back on.
"Hi, how I can help you?" asked a cheerful young woman behind the counter. I looked at the different sundaes behind the glass, "I'd like a single scoop of chocolate chips in a waffle cone please."
"And for you sir?" asked the cheerful girl.
Jack looked at me and sighed, "A single scoop of cherry and vanilla in a mug." I smiled at him and bumped my shoulder against his. I grabbed my wallet and tried to pay, but Jack had already given the girl his money.
"I told you it was my gift."
"Don't worry about it Miss White, I can afford to buy you an ice cream." I rolled my eyes and sat down at the wrought iron table, Jack sat across from me. I watched him eat his ice cream while he hid a small smile. I could tell he was enjoying it.
"How long has it been since you had ice cream?" I asked.
He looked at me puzzled: “I don't know. I guess since I was a child.
"Are you kidding, you haven't had ice cream since you were a kid?"
"No, is that a problem for you?"
"No, I'm just surprised."
“I think you would find a lot of amazing things about me,” he said. I twisted my face and looked at him.
"So where will you go later?" Not that it was any of my business, but he made sure to let me know that he needed to be somewhere.
He raised an eyebrow, "Miss White, I don't think he really wants to know the answer to that."
We finished our ice cream when I saw Denson pull the limo to the curb. He came out and opened the door for me.
"Thank you Denson, you're a gentleman," I said as I looked at Jack. Thank goodness I don't live too far away because it was uncomfortably quiet the whole way home. The limo pulled up to my apartment and I could see Jack leaning over to check.
"Do you have your own outside entrance?" he frowned.
“Yeah, I don't live in a fancy apartment building with a doorman and a private elevator. This is, Mr. Frost, my little apartment with its own outside entrance. He looked at me irritably.
“I didn't mean anything by that, I just think it's unsafe; anyone can come in.” I looked at him and thanked him for putting that thought in my head. I leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. I found it odd that he flinched at my touch.
"Thanks for dinner and ice cream, I had a great time."
"You're welcome; have a good evening, Miss White.
I got out of the limo and leaned forward to face him and winked, "Have a nice evening Mr. Frost."
I closed the door and went into my apartment. I took off the shoes that were killing me and threw them away; God my feet hurt but it was worth eating at Le Sur. My suspicion that he and Jack had to be somewhere was that he was going to pick up a woman for sex. I had the distinct feeling that he was that kind of person. He said he didn't "do" relationships, but he's a man and every man has needs, and he would make sure his were met.
I wondered why anyone would want a relationship with him anyway. He is downright rude and arrogant, not to mention he seems a bit controlling. Oh hell, I've never met anyone so controlling, but why does my heart race when I'm around him? I laughed to myself, thinking about the night, and how on more than one occasion I made him angry while he climbed me into my bed and put me into a deep sleep.
