Chapter 1

Celeste and I were kidnapped on our trial wedding trip.

The kidnappers forced me to reveal Celeste's whereabouts. In order to protect her, I kept my mouth shut and they humiliated me for about 100 hours.

Celeste Louis mobilized the entire family resources to find me in pieces.

She retaliated against the kidnappers like crazy, swearing to send them to prison. The kidnappers knelt down and begged for mercy.

"Ms. Louis, it was Mr. Schultz who asked us to do it. Do you want to send him in too?"

I watched Celeste's hesitant expression and the wounds on my body were piercing with pain.

Jansen Schultz was Celeste’s first love, who has disappeared for five years.

In that moment, I knew that she and I were completely over.

After waking up in the hospital, I cancelled my marriage registration.

——

"Hello, I would like to cancel my marriage registration."

I told the staff my ID number and the scheduled date of my wedding.

He suddenly fell silent and spoke hesitantly,

"Mr. Carpentier, Ms. Louis asked someone to arrange the date for you to get your marriage certificate. She said that she wants to get the marriage certificate on the date you met ... If you cancel it, I'm afraid you'll have to wait another year."

My heart suddenly tightened and the suffocating dull pain made my sight blurry.

"Cancel it!"

Seeing how determined I was, the staff had no choice but to agree.

I checked the information on the phone while looking around every corner of the ward.

In the empty ward, without any warmth, my heart sank slowly.

"Pieter, are you awake?"

The sudden intrusion made me turn around and see Celeste.

I had not seen her for more than ten days, but she was still as bright and beautiful as ever, with her delicate and cheerful expression.

I looked at my reflection in the window. My face was covered with red and swollen wounds, some of which were still festering with pus.

It did not even look like a person anymore.

"Why did you call as soon as you woke up? The doctor said you were seriously injured and you needed a lot of rest."

She pretended nothing had happened, skillfully made me lie down and tucked in the blanket for me.

In those beautiful peach blossom eyes, I could see the love and care for me.

"The doctor said your condition is not serious, as long as you rest well, you will be fine. As for your legs ... the doctor said it would be best to schedule the surgery in half a year, when your physical condition has improvement ...."

"Celeste, have you come to see me during these days when I was unconscious?"

I coldly interrupted her chatter and her hand peeling apples suddenly stopped.

She turned her eyes away from me and began to stammer. "Of course."

I knew Celeste too well, she was lying.

There was no warmth in this empty ward. How could she had been here?

I still remembered last year when I was hospitalized due to stomach pain and Celeste was so anxious that she almost overturned the hospital.

She went looking for various expert and well-known doctors and even tried to snatch the doctor's place on the operating table, causing chaos in the hospital.

After learning that it was just a simple gastroenteritis, she still stayed by my side and the entire ward was filled with all kinds of nutritional supplements and necessities.

She even asked someone to deliver fresh flowers every day, saying that the patient needed to stay in a good mood.

If I was not mistaken, it had been half a month since that happened to me.

She had never seen me before.

The deep love she once had seemed to have completely disappeared when she heard the name Jansen Schultz.

However, I was tortured for her until every part of my body was left unharmed and even my legs were broken. What were these sufferings compared to that?

The hesitation she felt when she heard Jansen's name, as well as the embarrassment with which she looked at me, made me breathless.

Chapter 2

"You go out ...."

I heard my own choking voice, then turned away with difficulty and stopped looking at her.

She was a bit in panic. She explained to me anxiously.

"Pieter, please don't get me wrong. I didn't mean to not come and see you, I just couldn't get away."

"Jansen, he had his reasons for leaving me back then. He didn't live well after leaving me and he even suffered from severe depression. He needed me ...."

If that incident had not happened, perhaps I would choose to believe Celeste and would sympathize with Jansen.

But now, I could not believe it.

I remained silent, letting tears ravage my face.

The wound was wet with tears and I felt stinging pain.

"Pieter, don't worry, I will definitely marry you. As for your kidnapping case, can you write a letter of understanding to Jansen?"

Hearing these words, I could not hold back the anger in my heart and sat up straight.

"Celeste, you promised me that you would send the people who bullied me to prison and make them get the punishment they deserve."

"But why is he the only one who can't? Can the whole world be an exception as long as he is involved?"

"Celeste, open your eyes and see! Who on earth did I become what I am now for!"

I screamed hysterically.

However, the girl looked at me with increasingly cold eyes, until she finally spoke in an almost indifferent tone.

"Pieter, how could you treat me like this?"

"Where has all your kindness and thoughtfulness gone? Were you pretending to trick me into marrying you?"

"If that's the case, I'll have to think it multiple times about getting the marriage certificate."

Listening to the ridiculous and absurd accusations in my ear, bitterness and helplessness crept into my heart layer by layer.

Just I was about to open my mouth and argue, I saw her take out her phone and the cold in her eyes suddenly dissipated.

"Reflect on yourself!"

She looked at her phone and left with these words.

Seeing the disappearing figure, my heart sank to the bottom.

The last glimmer of hope was also burned out.

She was the girl I had loved wholeheartedly for three years.

When a man did not love his girl, he could not see her wounds or hear what she said.

Celeste, you don't need to worry.

We will never get a marriage certificate in our lifetime.

After that day, I never saw her again.

She seemed to have disappeared until I found her trace on Jansen's social media account.

[Revisiting the past with your first love.]

The following photos were a series of check-in photos, a splicing of old and new scenes and Celeste could be seen in each photo.

Showing half of her face, a back view and a right palm with a mole on her index finger.

Eech photo was like a needle piercing my eyes and heart, bringing indelible pain.

I could not help it and sent the screenshot to Celeste.

In just a few seconds, she replied to my message.

[Pieter, the doctor said, accompanying Jansen to relax will help him recover from depression.]

[Once he recovers, I will definitely come back to accompany you, okay?]

How could those familiar words so obscure and difficult to understand?

I curled up in bed, letting the pain gnaw on my nerves.

The memories of her kept flashing back in my mind and the layered pain made me feel the pleasure of self-torture.

I was trying to use that method to make myself remember the lesson.

That day, I passed by the resident doctor's office and heard my name.

"As for Pieter's legs, it can't be delayed any longer. If you delay it any longer, he will never be able to stand up again!"

Chapter 3

"Are you really going to force him to this extent just for Jansen?"

The person on the other end of the phone sighed.

"Sure, the most important thing for me now is to accompany Jansen to treat his illness. Pieter has a stubborn personality. If his legs recover, he will definitely leave me."

"Cerena, can you help me just this once? I will definitely help him recover his legs later!"

The hospital where I was hospitalized, belonged to Celeste's family and I never doubted that she would tamper with my surgery.

Through the thin door panel, I heard a fierce noise inside.

I panicked and tried to escape, but accidentally fell off the wheelchair.

The door clicked open.

Cerena Louis stood there, her phone still on.

There was a hint of reluctance on the face resembled Celeste's, as she crouched down and carried me back to the wheelchair.

"I'll perform surgery on you, okay?"

At first, I thought Cerena was lying, but it was not until I successfully underwent leg surgery that I realized she was a good person.

On the second day after the surgery, Celeste happened to appear.

She did not seem to know about my surgery.

I rubbed my legs and Celeste unconsciously took my legs. "Does your legs hurt again?"

I felt a bit dazed. I had not seen her being gentle and considerate since that incident happened.

I pushed her hand away and pulled over the blanket to cover my legs.

"What's wrong?"

Perhaps it was because I was too cold and distant that she looked at me with some hurt in her eyes.

"Pieter, I know I was wrong. Can you please stop getting angry?"

"I'm here to take you home."

"These days, I have hired someone to set up specialized disability equipment for you at home. By then, your life at home will still be as convenient as before."

Celeste stood in front of my bed and pulled out the wheelchair from the corner.

Without giving me time to refuse, she asked the nurse to pick me up and put me on the wheelchair and while pushing me forward, she told me that she had prepared everything for me at home.

I felt a little amused. If it weren't for me scrolling through Jansen's social media updates, I would truly believe her words and even be moved.

I did not refuse because I did need some time to recuperate and the Louis Family's house was the best place to go.

I just did not expect to see another person there.

As soon as I got home, I saw Jansen standing at the door waiting for me.

I had never seen him in person. I had only heard his name from Celeste's mother.

Celeste's mother, Viviane Louis, said that Jansen and I had different personalities. I was sunny and cheerful, while he was quiet and gentle.

However, Viviane did not like Jansen, because he got close to her daughter just to get a place to study abroad at that time.

Celeste did not even know about it.

I did not mention it either, I did not want to get involved in their relationship.

I just did not expect that the first thing the man did when he came back was to hurt me and even deceive Celeste again.

And Celeste was like a fool.

"Pieter, thank you for forgiving me for that."

"That was something I didn't do right, but I really didn't let them torture you. I just wanted to meet you and talk to you. They acted on their own initiative! I ...."

Jansen came up with a harmless face and kept explaining.

But I did not listen to a word.

"When did I forgive you?"

I thought of the forgiveness letter Celeste mentioned before and turned to look at her.

I got it, she forged my letter of understanding.

Celeste separated me and Jansen with a guilty conscience and pushed me into the room.

Jansen obediently followed behind her.
