Chapter 1

After working overtime every day for a month, I finally completed an important code that could save my company.

Five minutes into my break, my team leader, Fiona Smith, suddenly hit me in the head with her file.

“Because you spent so much time in the office, our electricity bill this month has increased by 15 kWh! Do you see this office as a free air-conditioning supplier?”

I was about to defend myself when she angrily pointed at my cell phone and tablet on my desk.

“You’re charging your devices here? You should charge them at home! Aren’t you aware of the company’s current condition?”

I could no longer hold back my anger.

“Fiona, I’ve been working overtime. I’m not here doing nothing!”

“Can’t you do overtime at home instead? For a fresh graduate, you sure know how to exploit the company’s resources. Who knows what other despicable things you might be capable of doing in the future?!” Fiona yelled.

I stared at her twisted expression and suddenly chuckled.

If only my parents had seen me working so hard over such a trivial matter. They would have immediately asked me to quit and work in their company instead.

I grabbed the flash drive with the important code and called my secretary.

“Jane, I’d like to purchase Galaxy Corporation, and I want it to be the best in the industry.”

I only breathed a sigh of relief when I hit enter for the last time.

As soon as I leaned back against the chair, Fiona Smith suddenly hit the back of my head with her file.

“Why are you sleeping? Who do you think you are? The boss of this company? You have no respect for the rules!” she yelled in my face with her hands on her waist.

I was about to explain when she angrily pointed at my cell phone and tablet on my desk.

“And you’re so shameless for using the company’s electricity! Can’t you pay your own electricity bill? I bet you’re too poor!”

Essentially, I had been living at my desk for the past month due to this project.

I only slept for four hours a day while I drowned myself in coffee to stay awake.

I was not a typical Type A, but I put in the extra effort since this was my first job.

My parents had been handed everything on a silver platter, and I did not want to be like them.

Staring at Fiona’s face, which was twisted from anger and jealousy, I chuckled at her absurdity.

“Fiona, I’ve been working hard for the company for a month. The increase in electricity bill would not even be able to cover the money I’ve spent on coffee,” I said softly.

I thought that my explanation would suffice, but it made her even angrier.

“Can’t you work overtime at home? I think you’re just exploiting the company for free electricity! How shameless!”

“Work overtime at home?” I frowned.

With my family background, I did not even need to work. I just wanted to understand the current market.

I calmed myself and tried to explain to her again, “Fiona, I really was working when I stayed back late. If you don’t believe me, you can check the surveillance footage—”

Fiona dismissed me impatiently and snickered. “I don’t want to hear it. If you can’t fork out 50,000 to pay for the company’s electricity bill, you can pack your things and leave!”

I only stared at her in response. It was clear that she was antagonizing me on purpose.

Whether my colleagues felt sympathetic or indifferent, no one stood up for me.

Right then, I lost all desire to work hard for the company.

Since my labor meant nothing, why would I want to torture myself further?

I grabbed the flash drive and put it in my pocket. Then, I took out my cell phone to make a call.

Fiona widened her eyes, but I ignored her and calmly said, “Jane, I’d like to purchase Galaxy Corporation.”

Jane remained silent for five seconds before asking in disbelief, “Do you know what you’re saying?”

“Yes.” I sounded extremely calm.

I stared at Fiona’s mocking expression and said, “I know what I’m doing, and I have the confidence to bring this company to the top.”

As soon as I finished speaking, Fiona burst into laughter.

“Aspen Johnson, you’re such a good actress!”

Fiona pointed at my cell phone and raised her voice as she addressed everyone in the office. “Acting like you’re asking your secretary to take over this company? Do you think you’re filming a TV show?”

Chapter 2

“You should be an extra on a film set instead of wasting your talent here!” Fiona mocked as she looked at me.

She then reached out to snatch my cell phone.

“Let me hear who’s the other extra on the phone. You’re making it seem so realistic!”

I avoided her and coldly said, “Fiona, you’d better stay away from me. Otherwise, you’ll regret it immensely.”

“Aspen, you’re a poor graduate, and you’re talking to me about regret?”

It was as if she had just heard a huge joke.

“I think you’ve gone insane from all the overtime. Pack your things and leave now!”

She kicked the chair next to my desk and grabbed my backpack.

“What are you doing?”

“What am I doing? Since you’ve exploited the company’s free electricity, I’m obviously checking if you’ve stolen other things from the company!”

After that, she dumped the contents of my bag onto the table.

There were a few rumpled books, an old water bottle, and half a bag of cookies.

I felt embarrassed, as though I was being stripped naked.

“Hah! So poor!”

Fiona looked at me with a mocking expression.

“Aspen, I know what you’re planning!

“You pretend to work overtime every day, but you’re actually trying to seduce the boss so you can be rich!

“Since you want to get married so badly, I’ll be kind enough to help you today!”

She took out her cell phone and made a call.

Before long, someone answered the call in a playful voice.

“Hello, Fiona! Why did you suddenly have time to call me today?”

“Cut the nonsense. Let me introduce you to a potential wife. She’s a young and pretty graduate!”

The person on the other line was Joe White, and his interest was immediately piqued.

“I love girls with an education. Hurry up. I want to hear her voice!”

Fiona then passed her phone to me.

“Here. Talk to Joe. He’s rich, you’ll be able to live a good life even from his leftovers.

“Isn’t that much better than using the company’s electricity?”

Furious, I swung my arm and knocked her phone off.

In response, Fiona rushed forward and grabbed my collar.

“You witch! What’s wrong with you? Why did you knock my phone off? I’m going to teach you a lesson!”

Our colleagues noticed that things were getting heated, so they immediately called the police.

By the time we stepped out of the police station, it was already nighttime.

However, my appearance had quickly reached the highest-ranking officer in the region.

The police were all apologizing to me as if they had done something wrong.

I did not want to disrupt their work with my private matters. Hence, I decided to address the issue without filing an official report.

Fiona was still staring viciously at me as she cursed, “I’ll let you off the hook today, you witch. Next time, I’ll…”

I ignored her as I got into the luxury car that my family had sent to pick me up.

My parents were delighted by my sudden appearance.

After all, they had not seen me for a long time.

My mother pushed a plate of fruits toward me with a frown.

“Aspen, you look sickly. You should just quit. It’s not like you need to work…”

My father was reading the newspaper, but he also looked up in silence when he heard this.

“Mom, Dad,” I said softly, “I shouldn’t leave any loose ends.

“Trust me. I can handle my work.”

Later, I took a comfortable bath. Just as I lay on my bed, my cell phone started buzzing.

Picking it up, I saw numerous missed calls and vulgar texts from various unknown numbers.

I also received many strange follower requests on my social media. They all came with the same insulting message.

[Witch! You’re shameless, and your parents probably regret giving birth to you!]

Chapter 3

[You can’t change who you are. Your education is just a disguise!]

[You deserve to marry a poor old man and give birth to a bunch of good-for-nothings!]

It was clear who was behind this.

I was about to turn my phone off and rest when my best friend, Melanie Brown, called me.

“Aspen, I saw a social media post about you that had at least 100,000 clicks!” She sounded anxious and concerned.

“Did you offend anyone? Your phone number and social media accounts have been exposed online. Also…”

I clicked the link she had sent me and discovered that Fiona had posted it.

[Exposing the fake witch who always does overtime in our company!]

However, I just scrolled through the post robotically.

In the post, she claimed that I was a cheapskate who wanted to sleep my way to the top.

She even claimed that I had caused a huge scene because I failed to seduce our boss.

The comments under the post were cruel and horrendous.

[How shameless! I hope karma gets her and her family!]

[With her appearance, she deserves to be sold off to an old man!]

[I’ve saved her phone number. Let’s all give her a call and rebuke her!]

[I’ve already sent her a follow request. I’m going to curse at her and her family!]

“Aspen? Aspen? Are you still listening to me? Are you alright?”

It sounded like Melanie had been crying.

“Melanie, I’m fine.” I took a deep breath.

“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure they all get what they deserve.”

The next day, I felt tension in the air the moment I entered the company.

Everyone was giving me meaningful looks.

However, it was not until I walked into the office that I saw it. Someone had written horrible words about me using red lipstick.

Fiona stood there with her arms crossed as she stared triumphally at me.

“Hey, are you here for free electricity again? Are you planning to visit the police station again today?”

I stood there and took a deep breath. I told myself that I should not lose my cool like I did yesterday.

Then, I quietly walked to my desk and wiped the writing away with some wet wipes.

“Aspen, are you mute?”

Fiona slammed her hands against my desk.

“I’m telling you. If you’re not paying for the electricity bill and my emotional distress, you won’t be leaving the office today!”

I stopped wiping and looked up.

My colleagues were startled, and they quickly looked away.

However, I sounded very calm.

“Fiona, I’ll make the payment to finance. Please excuse me as I need to work.”

“Work? You dare talk about work? You’re just a shameless woman who wants free electricity from the company and wants to sleep your way up!”

Those insults from the comments immediately filled my mind again.

Even so, I straightened up and switched on my work computer.

Fiona noticed that I was ignoring her, so she lashed out at the poor intern.

“Lynn Watsons! Are you blind? Can’t you see there’s trash around here? Clean this place up!”

The stuff that Fiona had thrown out of my bag was still on the table.

Lynn walked over carefully and swept everything into the bin.

“Hey, stop. Let me see what that is.”

Fiona abruptly bent down and picked up a white name card from the pile of things.

“Hey, traitor. Have you already gotten another job lined up? You even have a new name card…”

All of a sudden, she paused, and her hand that held the name card started trembling.

I chuckled.

At the same time, my secretary, Jane, entered and walked toward me before passing me a document.

“Ms. Johnson, this is Galaxy Corporation’s purchase agreement. Please review it.”
