Chapter 2
“My child just has a fever and a cold, you quack doctor!” She yelled. “If only I had listened to Dr. Bethany. She told me a long time ago that my child just had a common cold and would be fine after a few days of intravenous drips.
“You better go to hell!”
It turned out that all this was Bethany Marsh's masterpiece.
Bethany was my junior. In order to take care of the patients' feelings, she always downplayed serious illnesses and prescribed some seemingly effective medicines.
“Estella, please do not do surgery all the time. I know you are good at surgery, but not all diseases require surgery. Sometimes conditioning is better.
“To be honest, everyone has a headache or fever nowadays. If we treat everyone in a one-size-fits-all manner like this, how can people survive?”
She incited the patient's emotions and the incident was even posted online. I became infamous and even had my bank account closed.
I was stabbed to death, the families of the extreme patients whose diseases I had diagnosed came to me. They sneaked into my house and set it on fire.
My parents were trapped in the fire and burned to death.
After getting reborn and having to face it again, I looked at the Morales Family who asked to change doctors and I agreed without hesitation.
“Okay, I have no problem with that!”
Bethany, who rushed over, looked at me with disbelief in her eyes.
I was known for being stubborn in the neurology field, so how could I suddenly change my mind?
What was more, she and I were in a competitive relationship at that moment. Whoever performed more surgeries and treated more patients this month would be eligible to compete for the Academic Leader of the Neurology Department.
If someone wanted to be gilded with such a layer of gold, they would need this title. Everyone knew, an authoritative title represented someone’s status in the circle.
Terry was stunned. All the speeches she had prepared were useless.
His husband, Eldon Morales, on the other hand, looked at me with a hint of contempt in his eyes.
“I just asked you about the most popular AI now. My son has a fever and a headache because of the flu,” he stated. “Why don't you give him some cold medicine to reduce his fever and give him a few injections, so that he'll be fine?
“Don’t delay my son's treatment. You cannot afford the compensation!”
When the colleagues heard this, they could not help but widen their eyes.
They tried to persuade the father, “The child's illness cannot be taken lightly. After all, the Internet is different from reality.”
“No matter what, the necessary inspections must be done,” someone also chimed in.
“Dr. Estella will not lie to you. Your son's brain does have symptoms of sclerosis. If left untreated, his life will be in danger!” Selly shouted loudly, but the next second she was kicked to the ground by Terry.
“What did you say, you little bitch? How dare you curse my son to death!” she yelled “What rubbish surgery! We won't do it.
“Don't think we don't know. This surgery costs 7,500 dollars and we will have to pay another 7,000 dollars too!
“Estella, you are a college student from our village, have you lost your conscience? You treat my son as a foreigner?”
Hearing this, Loyd in Terry's arms suddenly jumped up and kicked me hard on the knee.
“I knew you wanted to take revenge on me. It was your dog that barked at me first, so I killed it!” he sneered.
A hint of darkness flashed through my eyes. Back then, my dog was killed innocently by someone and it turned out to be Loyd.
How could someone so young already harbor such cruelty?
“You want to kill me, believe it or not, I will let my parents kill your whole family!”
My face was cold and I gently helped Selly up from the ground.
If I was not mistaken, Bethany had already informed them.
Looking at Loyd in front of me, he was really a damn bastard.
Chapter 3
In my previous life, in order to save him, I even paid for some of his expenses out of my own pocket for the sake of being from the same hometown as him.
The operation was successful, but I did not expect that the Morales Family would carry him out of the hospital behind my back.
He could not ride on bumpy roads after a cranial surgery. Rural roads were full of potholes, not to mention that sometimes buses might have to brake suddenly.
There were only three golden minutes for intracranial vascular sclerosis. But transportation was inconvenient in the countryside and rescue was impossible.
I became the scapegoat and the culprit and my parents were also implicated.
I only realized after my death that all this was a conspiracy, even my forensic fiance, Pierre Lester, was involved in this conspiracy.
Bethany was his first love. For her, he went against his professional conscience, tampered with the autopsy report and put the blame on me.
“Okay, I promise you, Loyd will have nothing to do with me from now on and I will no longer be concerned about his health, life or death.”
“Estella, you are too cold!” Bethany sighed and said, “Mr. and Mrs. Morales, your child is not in serious trouble.
“I'm also a neurologist. The child probably has a cold. He will be fine after a few days of intravenous drips.”
Bethany touched the child carefully, with a smile on her face as sweet as her name.
“Mom, I saw an angel!”
“This is a real doctor! The doctor just now was so cold-blooded.”
“You keep doing surgery for no reason. Do you really think that our money is blown by the wind?”
“Yeah, we don't fight with knives, so we just cut everything with a knife.”
“They are really crazy about making dirty money.”
I ignored these people's voices, even when they were clamoring to make a new registration and go to Bethany's place.
There was an unconcealable joy in Bethany's eyes. She was so sure that she would win.
After all, if this continued, the number of patients she treated this month would definitely far exceed that of me. So, the position of Director of the Neurology Department would definitely be hers.
“Estella, it's a deal. I'll ask my assistant to transfer their cases to me.”
Bethany did not expect everything to go so smoothly. She was even planning to talk to Pierre about acting.
She had asked her seniors and the Dean to check beforehand and they all had no major problems, so her cure rate was very stable.
But Estella’s current healing rate was 100%.
She had completed several difficult operations and her reputation in the Neurology Department was getting better and better.
A trace of jealousy flashed across her eyes. Even though her seniors and the Dean gave her special treatment, she still seemed a little overwhelmed in the face of absolute strength.
If this was the case, she would probably become the most marginalized person.
Fortunately, it succeeded.
No matter why Estella gave up the patient, it was a good thing for her all in all.
I looked at Bethany's smug look and sneered silently, “Idiot.”
Loyd's illness indeed looked like a cold, but it was actually very serious.
I had the honor of participating in this operation with Professor Dennis, an internationally renowned and deceased mentor.
Loyd's condition was exactly the same as that patient's.
However, there were very few such patients and Loyd in the previous life was the first case, which was also of great value in research.
But thinking about my experience in my previous life, I did not want to get involved anymore.
I did not try to keep these patients, as they had blamed me for everything in my previous life.
Afterwards, they posted the video online to help Bethany throw dirty water on her head.
“Everyone, if you want to take a number, it's over here.” A voice as gentle as jade sounded.
Chapter 4
I looked at Pierre who was walking towards me, with coldness in my eyes.
Pierre was the forensic doctor of the police force, responsible for autopsies and other work.
“Estella, you can finally work the next early shift.” He looked at me with a smile, “Bethany, thank you so much for allowing me and Estella to spend some time alone together.”
Pierre pretended to be affectionate and tried to smooth things over for Bethany.
I looked at him with a half-smile and a trace of unnaturalness flashed in his eyes.
“Pierre, what do you mean?” I asked innocently.
“Estella, I'm just afraid they’ll embarrass you. You know the doctor-patient relationship is very tense right now.
“Now these patients are incited and emotional. It would be bad if they do something extreme,” Pierre tried to explain as if he cared about me.
I looked at his affectionate face and if I had not experienced this in my previous life, I would have almost believed it.
Pierre was a cunning fox, but he was not embarrassed at all.
Was not it him who secretly instigated the emotions of Terry’s family?
Soon, Terry and her family made another appointment.
Bethany took a stethoscope and a thermometer, then diagnosed Loyd seriously, “It's true that the child has a cold.
“As for the headache, it's normal. It happens when you have a cold and cough for a long time.
“Take some anti-inflammatory medicine and get an IV drip for a few days and you'll be fine.”
The Dean also came over and even examined Loyd in front of everyone.
“Dr. Bethany is right. I just looked at the blood test report and the child does have the flu."
After hearing this, Terry and her family smiled happily, “That’s good!”
Then she said to me, “That's what I said, Estella, how could you kill someone you know?
“We are fellow villagers, but you are trying to steal my wealth and kill me. What a snake!”
Everyone around me stood on Terry's side and criticized me, “The Dean said that this child has the flu.”
“A doctor who has to undergo surgery for a person suffering from the flu is totally unethical.”
“If you dare to be her patient, be careful that she will open her heart and cut your head open.”
Bethany was very satisfied with the attitude of the people around her towards me and she came out with a smile on her face to act like a good person.
“Everyone, please stop arguing. Estella's specialty is surgery and she's the best at it, so it's inevitable that when something happens, she thinks of surgery first.
“I was born into a family of traditional medicine practitioners and I specialize in conditioning and treatment. Different doctors have different philosophies, so you should understand that.”
Looking at Bethany's ambiguous words, I was once again pushed to the forefront.
As expected, everyone's emotions were ignited once again.
“Dr. Bethany, we believe you!”
“Sooner or later, this quack doctor will get her comeuppance. What a rubbish surgery.”
“Yeah, you treat our fellow countrymen as non-human beings. Are we your experimental guinea pigs?”
“This is a famous hospital in the city. It has produced many respected doctors. How could there be a scum like you?”
There was a look of triumph in Bethany's eyes. She did not even have to exert any effort to make me self-destruct. It was too easy.
But she still pretended to be embarrassed and apologized, “Estella, please forgive me, I don't mean to steal your patient."
“It's okay. You take responsibility. I have no objection. We respect the patient's right to choose,” I answered calmly, then said to the intern, “Selly, you will be my assistant from now on. Please help me pass these medical records to Dr. Bethany later.”
“Dr. Estella. Am I dreaming? I can learn from you? Did I hear you right?”
Others might not know, but Selly and I graduated from the same school, so of course she knew that I was a legend in our medical school.
How could she not see that these people were trying to make things difficult for her senior?
“Of course.” A smile appeared in my eyes.
