Chapter 2
I shook off Jessie's hand and laughed out loud, “Jessie, do you think too highly of yourself?
“The sign I chose was not yours at all.”
There was a strange flash in Tobias's eyes.
“What did you say?” Jessie's pupils suddenly shrank and then she let out a sarcastic laugh, “Why are you pretending? Aren't you just jealous that I'm nice to Tobias?”
I was too lazy to argue any further and just turned and left.
Thinking that I could finally change my partner in this life and get rid of this lunatic Jessie, I felt a surge of satisfaction in my heart.
The next day, I went to the gallery under my name and wanted to pick out a painting to give to Elliot as a gift.
As I pushed open the gallery door, I froze in place.
The walls were covered with portraits of Tobias. From the high-spirited one to the melancholy one, the other had him lower his brows and the right one when he smiled lazily.
Each one was carefully framed and sparkled under the light.
“Do you like it?” Jessie stroked his face gently, “From now on, I will give you the most special gift every birthday.”
Tobias's ears turned red and he said in a low voice with a smile, “Jessie, you are so good to me, how can I repay you?”
After saying that, he lowered his head slightly and kissed Jessie on her lips.
The two soon became passionately kissing.
I sneered and knocked on the door frame and the two of them separated in panic.
Jessie frowned, “Why are you here?”
“Do I need to report my own property to you?” I felt a tightness in my chest.
In my previous life, it was here that I personally handed over the family property to this woman.
Jessie's lips curled up into a sarcastic smile, “Why are you so angry?”
She sneered, “Moses, haven’t you always been following me since you were a child? What are you playing hard to get now?”
“Stop pretending.” She said with contempt, “You love me so much, how could you really bear to let go?”
“Security,” I said in a cold voice, “Throw all this garbage out, including the people and paintings!”
“Don’t throw them away! These are all given to me by Jessie.”
Tobias suddenly rushed over and grabbed my hand, but the moment he touched me, he fell onto the coffee table. The glass fragments cut his calf and blood flowed.
“Moses!” Jessie pushed me angrily.
I stumbled into the metal easel, warm liquid running down my cheeks, but I felt no pain.
Jessie picked up the paint bucket and threw it at me as she yelled, “Moses, are you crazy?!”
She supported Tobias and strode away.
I knelt down in the mess and suddenly remembered something before I asked, “Where is my mother's painting of Spring Mountains?”
The staff member pointed to the corner tremblingly. The painting left by my mother before her death was stained beyond recognition by the red paint.
“Mom...” I murmured to myself while holding the painting, tears mixed with blood dripping onto the canvas.
The sound of a wheelchair came from far away.
I looked up and saw a figure sitting at the junction of light and shadow. The silver mask glowed coldly, but it could not hide her slightly trembling eyelashes.
It was Elliot.
“Don’t be sad.” Her eyes fell on my bleeding forehead and then quickly moved away.
“Medicine.” She handed me a tube of ointment. Her fingers were long and clean, but they curled slightly when they met my sight. “Otherwise, it will leave scars.”
I stared blankly at the medicine box in my hand and then I remembered that the Peter Family was the most prestigious medical family in the capital and they almost monopolized the city's Pharmaceutical Industry.
I took it, her fingertips trembled and she quickly retracted it.
“I know you were forced to choose.” Her voice was hoarse and each word was spoken slowly,
“I will cancel the engagement and you don’t have to wrong yourself.”
Chapter 3
The wheelchair squeaked as it turned and she turned to leave.
“Wait!” I rushed over to stop her.
She froze and turned her face away in panic.
“I mean it.” I looked her straight in the eye. “You are my choice.”
Her fingers were tightly gripping the armrests of the wheelchair and the tips of her ears were red as blood.
After a long time, she said "um" very softly.
Elliot sent someone to send me a lot of medicinal herbs and nourishing things.
The scar on my forehead has scabbed over. Every time I changed the dressing, I always thought of her red ear tips that day and a warm feeling rose in my heart.
That day, I walked into the couture store and heard Tobias's sticky voice before I even entered the door.
“Jessie, I like all these suits!”
As he spoke, his fingers casually stroked the cufflinks, but his eyes occasionally glanced at the most expensive ones.
Jessie said in a doting tone, “Buy whatever you like and put it on Moses's account.”
I sneered and pushed the door open.
When Jessie saw me, she did not feel guilty at all. Instead, she raised her chin and said, “You pushed Tobias last time and injured him. This is your apology.”
Tobias suddenly set his eyes at the windbreaker on me, his eyes lit up, “Jessie, I want this one from Mr. Bryant, too.”
The clerk looked embarrassed. “Sorry, this piece is a limited edition. Mr. Bryant reserved it half a year ago.”
Tobias immediately lowered his head and said in a low voice, “Forget it. How can a person of ordinary background like me be worthy of wearing such expensive clothes?”
As he spoke, his fingers unconsciously pressed on his left calf, the place where he had ‘accidentally’ hit it in the gallery last time.
Jessie felt distressed instantly and turned to me and ordered, “Moses, you have so many clothes in your cloakroom, give this one to him.”
I sneered, “Why?”
“Just consider it as compensation.” She lowered her voice, “Last time in the gallery, you pushed him and he was in pain for half a month.”
I was about to retort when Tobias suddenly groaned.
Jessie immediately supported him, “What's wrong? Is it hurting again?”
“It's okay...” He shook his head weakly, but cold sweat oozed from his forehead.
Jessie's eyes suddenly turned cold and ordered me, “Moses, give him the clothes.”
I said coldly to the bodyguard at the door, “Please get these two people out.”
But the two bodyguards actually hesitated and advised me, “Mr. Bryant, you will eventually marry Ms. Silvester, so you should just listen to her."
Before I could react, Jessie gave a look and two bodyguards grabbed my arms, pressed me to the cold marble floor!
“Take it off for me!” Jessie's voice came from above my head.
The clerk did not dare to move. Jessie sneered, “He has been pursuing me for so many years. Isn’t it me who has the final say in our future marriage?”
The clerk came forward tremblingly and unbuttoned my windbreaker.
I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white as my clothes were ripped off.
Jessie put the windbreaker on Tobias's shoulders and said gently, “Tobias, you look better in it than him.”
Tobias pursed his lips, “But this is not good... Will Mr. Bryant be angry?”
Jessie suddenly took out her phone and took several photos of me in dishevel. “Moses, if you dare to cause trouble for Tobias, I will let the whole network see what you look like.”
“Jessie.” I stared at her, my voice cold, “You are so disgusting.”
Memories of my past life surged up and her face overlapped with the one before my eyes.
The clerk could not bear it and handed me a coat.
I put on my clothes and slammed the door.
When my father saw how embarrassed I was, he smashed the teacup in anger, “How dare the girl from the Silvester family do this to you?! I'm going to settle the score with the Silvester Family right now!”
Chapter 4
“Dad, don’t worry.” I wiped the sweat off my face, “I have a way to deal with them. Let's deal with those who are traitors first.”
A week before the wedding, I went to the cemetery alone.
“Mom, I won’t make the same mistake again this time.”
The phone suddenly vibrated.
The bank sent me an urgent notice that all of my 50 million trust funds were transferred out.
I immediately called my assistant.
“Sir, someone forged your signature and transferred the money!”
Twenty minutes later, I rushed into Tobias's newly opened studio.
“Jessie!” My voice instantly silenced the entire place. “Who allowed you to touch my trust fund?”
She turned around slowly and said, “Moses, you have bullied Tobias time and time again. This money should be your apology.”
She deliberately raised her voice, “After marriage, it's all common property anyway, so don’t be so petty.”
My chest heaved violently and my vision went dark.
At this moment, a familiar light flashed on Tobias's wrist.
That was the jade ring that I locked in the bank safe, my mother’s favorite relic when she was alive.
I grabbed Tobias's wrist and said, “Take off the ring!”
Tobias's eyes immediately turned red and he hid behind Jessie.
Jessie said impatiently, “It's just an old ring…."
Before she finished her sentence, I reached out and pulled it off. “I told you to take it off!”
As I pulled, the ring hit the marble floor with a clang, leaving a fine crack.
“Pah!”
I raised my hand and slapped Tobias hard.
Tobias covered his face and Jessie pushed me away angrily, “Are you crazy?!”
I raised my head and looked at her coldly.
Jessie took a half step back because of my gaze and her voice became weaker unconsciously, “I mean, it's just a ring, why are you so angry?"
I slowly squatted down and picked up the ring with trembling fingertips.
Back in the car, veins bulged on my hand as I clenched the ring.
I opened my phone and the hot search exploded. “The Heir to A Wealthy Family Was Stripped in Public]
In the photo, I was disheveled and Tobias was wearing my coat and leaning against Jessie, with the caption, [For some people, things they rob are not theirs after all.]
I turned off my phone.
I also wanted to say this to him. What he robbed was not his after all.
But the online public opinion was overwhelming and all kinds of unpleasant words stabbed my heart like a knife.
“The eldest young master of the Bryant Family is such a bastard that he was completely subdued by his fiancée!”
“Look at how cowardly he is. He deserves to be bullied!”
When I called my assistant, my voice was eerily calm. “Remove those posts from the Internet. Also, I want the money back in full. No matter the price, no matter the means.
“If the bank dares to shirk responsibility, let them prepare to receive a lawyer's letter. If anyone tries to stop me…."
I sneered as I added, “Let them think about the consequences of offending the Bryant family.”
Early in the morning of the wedding day, Jessie called.
“Moses,” Jessie's voice was full of confidence and pride. “You scared Tobias about the ring incident that day. He is emotionally unstable now. The doctor said we need to pay special attention to him.”
I stood in the cloakroom adjusting my cufflinks, the mirror reflected my sneer, “So, you posted my photo online to vent your lover's anger?”
She snorted coldly, “Don’t forget that your father's mining project still relies on my family's connections. Besides me, who else can help your family with this?”
I slowly adjusted my tie and tapped my fingers on the chest of drawers.
“How about this,” she said as if giving me alms, “you transfer 50% of the shares under your name to Tobias as a pre-wedding gift to me.”
She chuckled, “After we get married, what's mine is yours.”
On the other end of the phone, Tobias called ‘Jessie’ affectionately. She immediately softened her voice and said, “I'll be there right away!”
“As long as you promise, I will show up at the wedding on time today.”
I hung up the call and added the number to my blacklist.
In the banquet hall, when Elliot's wheelchair slowly drove in, the whole audience was suddenly in an uproar. She was wearing a silver mask today, but when she saw me, her eyebrows curved into a gentle arc.
“Bang!”
The door was pushed open violently.
Jessie rushed in in a white wedding dress, with a determined smile on her face. But when her eyes fell on Elliot beside me, her whole face twisted instantly.
“Moses,” her voice began to tremble, “What does this mean?”
“Elliot!” She suddenly shouted, “What are you doing here?”
This question was not only what she wanted to ask, but also the question of all the guests present. After all, Elliot never participated in any social activities.
I took a step forward and stood in front of Elliot's wheelchair.
Jessie's face turned pale as she questioned, “Moses, today is our wedding day. What do you mean by calling someone here?”
Tobias stepped forward and said, “Mr. Bryant, even if Jessie has been spending more time with me recently, you don’t have to find a disabled woman to annoy her, right?”
I took a deep breath, “Jessie…."
“That's enough!” Jessie suddenly grabbed my wrist. “From now on I am your wife and you are playing such a clumsy trick?”
I slammed her hand away.
At this moment, the emcee's loud voice resounded throughout the venue.
“Dear distinguished guests, welcome to the wedding of Mr. Moses and Miss Elliot.”
