Chapter 2

Winona clenched the divorce papers tightly. “Jared Strathmore, must you pick a fight over nothing?” she snapped.

When I did not respond, she sneered. “Fine. Keep going then.”

She strode to the door, pulled Corey inside, and pressed herself against him.

“Carry me back.”

“Miss Quinton, what are you doing?” Corey asked, chuckling lightly. “What if someone sees us?”

Winona slipped her arms around his waist. Her cheeks tinged red. “My stockings are torn. Take me back to the office and help me change them.”

Then, with a sideways glance at me, she deliberately looped an arm around Corey’s neck. “Let’s go, Corey. Don’t let anyone ruin our mood.”

I stood frozen and with my fists clenched.

As I left the office, I noticed people gathered around, talking over their phones and occasionally casting strange looks my way.

I pulled out my phone and discovered a glaring post at the top of my social feed.

Corey had uploaded a nine-photo collage just a minute ago, and every shot featured Winona in revealing outfits.

Accompanying the post was a caption. [Helping the boss lady change her stockings. She still blushes like it’s the first time.]

I was about to like it when the post suddenly vanished. Then, raised voices drifted from the office next door.

“Who gave you permission to post that? I told you, my husband and I were just arguing. What are you trying to imply? Let me make this clear: We are strictly boss and assistant.”

“But I thought—”

Corey tried to speak, but Winona interrupted him sharply. “Enough! I only ever appear on my husband’s feed. Don’t you even know that as an assistant? Get out. I don’t want my husband getting the wrong idea about me and an outsider.”

At the word “outsider,” Corey’s expression fell. Just as he opened the door, he saw me standing outside.

Winona also froze when she saw me and immediately urged Corey to leave.

I kept my expression neutral. “No need for that. I’m just here to grab some documents.”

Winona’s face twisted with a flash of anger. When Corey still remained standing there, she snapped, “Get out!”

Corey glared at me before leaving the office reluctantly.

Winona looked at me, her expression softening. “Look, Jared, there’s nothing going on between us.”

She pulled me to the couch. “Honey, I know what you’re upset about, and I admit that I messed up. I really don’t want a divorce. I swear, there’s nothing between him and me.”

I stared at Winona as she desperately tried to explain herself. I remained completely unmoved.

“Winona, I’m only here for my documents. I couldn’t care less about your relationship with him.”
