Chapter 2
Her eyes were so poised and guiltless, and I had met Evan the day before. So at the time, I subconsciously apologized to her, making it seem like I had done something wrong.
Even when my parents asked why she disappeared after the wedding the day before, I covered up for her, saying that she was not feeling well and went home to rest.
It was also from that time that every time she went to see Evan, I always deceived myself and found all kinds of excuses for her.
Claire didn't allow me to have sex with her. I thought it might be because our marriage came too quickly and she might not be able to accept it at once.
I thought she was a slow starter.
And she always appeared to be so impeccable and gentle in front of my friends and family.
I also once fantasized that one day we would live a loving life.
But before that day came, I died unexpectedly due to a car accident.
I didn't know if she would be sad for me when she heard the news of my death.
Walking on the road and breathing the fresh air, I finally recovered from the death of my previous life.
Since she couldn't let go of Evan, I would let her go and see if she would really be as happy as she imagined.
"Joe, are you nuts? Why do you always target Evan?"
Looking at the message popping up on Facebook on my phone, if it were me in my previous life, I would have probably already started to apologize in a servile manner.
Evan was very good at disguising himself, especially in front of me.
He always acted like he considered me, but every time he put me in a difficult position so that I had no choice but to bear the humiliation and let Claire go to accompany him.
In my previous life, even when I was sick and hospitalized, Claire went to Evan to take care of him.
She also showed me Evan's illness case, which was an extremely rare allergy symptom.
Once an attack occurred, the whole body would become extremely itchy and uncomfortable, and in severe cases, it might even bleed.
I had seen those photos, and it was really bad.
Every time Evan felt unwell, he called Claire.
Then Claire immediately dropped everything and went to take care of him, without caring about my feelings at all.
One time when I went to deliver something to Claire, I unexpectedly saw her giving Evan a careful massage.
The gentleness and tenderness in her face were something I had never seen before.
After being married for so many years, her smile and tenderness seemed to be revealed only occasionally in front of outsiders. As soon as she returned home, her face turned cold.
In my previous life, I was very considerate of Claire. I always felt that she was a slow starter and just not very close to me yet.
I had always been considerate of how uncomfortable Evan felt as an allergy sufferer, but the two of them seemed to take my kindness as an excuse to trample on me.
Maybe Claire had always cheated on me.
In the end, I even died on the way to pick up Claire.
I was not Evan's family or the culprit who caused him to get sick. Why should I bear all the consequences?
"Claire, whether I target Evan or there is something wrong between you and him, I think you know very well, right?
"Do you think I really don't know what you did with him?
"I just don't want to embarrass our parents, but since you have gone so far, don't blame me for doing this to you.
"I have just sent you the divorce agreement. If you have no problem with it, let's make an appointment to sign it tomorrow."
Chapter 3
Claire still treated me the same way as in my previous life.
In my previous life, I initially mistakenly thought that she was a slow starter. Later, when I realized something was wrong, I didn't want to fall out with her because I was concerned about our parents, so I kept compromising and waited for her to change her mind.
But now I had the opportunity to live my life again. I just wanted to live for myself.
After putting down my phone, I found that I had unknowingly walked to the community.
"Hey man, your son and daughter-in-law are such a perfect match. Every time they come back to see you, I feel envious.
"These days, it's rare to see young couples with such a good relationship."
Bill Cook, the old downstairs neighbor, flattered my dad and made my parents very happy.
In my last life, I cared too much about what others thought of me and didn't dare to take the initiative to change.
Listening to my parents praising Claire for being sensible and caring, I couldn't bear it any longer and walked in to interrupt them.
"Mom and Dad, it's time to go home for dinner."
The moment they saw me, my parents were extremely surprised, but they kept staring behind me. When they didn't see Claire, they immediately showed disappointment.
In my previous life, because of Claire, I rarely went home to visit my parents.
But in their eyes, Claire was their good daughter-in-law, and they always gave her a warm welcome every time she came back.
"Mom and Dad, Claire is busy with something, so she doesn't come back. Let's go back."
I pretended nothing had happened and went back home with them.
"Dad, you have to take care of yourself. The weather has been humid recently. Is your rheumatism going to come back?"
Watching my father struggling to go up the stairs, I suddenly felt sad.
In my previous life, I was only concerned with my entanglement with Claire and didn't care about my parents at all.
After I died, only my father limped to the scene and cried for me, while Claire and Evan were having fun somewhere.
My mother also had a heart attack after learning the news of my death.
But Claire never visited them once.
Fortunately, God gave me the opportunity to start over and make up for those regrets.
Thinking about my parents' health condition after I died in my previous life, I made an appointment for a full medical examination for them despite their objections.
But to my surprise, while we were having dinner, Claire actually knocked on the door with a bunch of nutritional supplements for the first time.
The moment they saw Claire, they were extremely happy.
Claire's parents and my parents had always had a close relationship, so in my parents' hearts, Claire was almost like their daughter.
My mother warmly welcomed Claire in and patted her on the body lovingly.
"Claire, have you not been eating well recently? You have lost weight."
"Come if you want to. You don't have to bring such things. Come here more often for dinner later." My dad also stood up and looked at Claire happily.
Claire smiled and responded to my parents, but the moment she saw me, her eyes turned cold.
Seeing that scene, my parents seemed to realize something was wrong.
My mother grabbed my ear and said, "Did you bully Claire?"
My dad stood beside Claire and said, "Claire, if he does anything to offend you, tell me and I will lecture him."
A trace of guilt flashed across Claire's eyes, but quickly disappeared.
"Mom and Dad, I'm fine. It's just that Joe and I had a few arguments today, so he came here."
Seeing Claire's sensible face, I couldn't bear it any longer and said sarcastically,
"Enough, stop pretending. Do you want me to tell them everything?"
