Chapter 2

If it were before, I would be so sad that I couldn’t sleep.

But William, I was going to die.

I didn’t care whether you loved it or not.

In the last period of my life, I would give you a gift that you would never forget.

I unfolded the diary and slowly wrote on it.

[I was diagnosed with pregnancy today, which was originally a very happy day, but I was also diagnosed with stomach cancer at the same time. I didn’t know how to tell William the bad news, but I saw him spending the night with Sydney.]

[So I aborted the child, concealed my illness and determined to die quietly alone.]

I believed William’s expression would be wonderful after seeing these contents.

I just wanted to use my suffering to make him feel guilty of what he did for the rest of his life.

After putting the diary away, William’s urging voice came. “Why isn’t today’s breakfast ready? Ellen, remember to add two pieces of cheesecake for me.”

After my meal, William disliked sweets the most.

But Sydney was neither sweet nor happy.

He always had all her preferences in mind.

After making the cake, I felt hungry and had a stomachache. I saw the milkshake on the table and took a sip.

When William saw it, he snatched the milkshake away and subconsciously pushed me.

“This is what I will give to Sydney later. Ellen, why do you even want to snatch this thing from her?”

I endured the stomachache and couldn’t help laughing sarcastically. “I have been married to you for five years, cooked for you for five years and just drank a sip of milkshake. How can you say this to me?”

William snorted coldly, “I just don’t like that you have to snatch everything from Sydney. After all, I’m already married to you, what else do you want?”

After that, he didn’t want to say another word and forcefully pulled me into the car.

When I arrived at the company, I saw Sydney wearing a pink short skirt at her workstation early.

The moment she saw William, she rushed toward him. “William, do I look good today?”

Their posture was familiar, like that of an intimate lover.

William subconsciously held Sydney’s slender waist and suddenly realized that I was still there and his body suddenly stiffened.

Only then did Sydney notice me. “Oh, we haven’t seen each other for many years! I was afraid that I didn’t tell you yesterday because of your hard work, but William came to pick me up! He gave me a big hug as soon as he saw me and his eyes were always glued to me. He is exactly the same as before!”

Yes, it was still the same as before.

As long as Sydney was here, William would never see me.

The familiar scent of roses came and my stomach suddenly felt a throbbing pain. I rushed to the trash can and retched.

“Ellen, what’s wrong with you?”

William was about to check on me, but Sydney’s eyes suddenly turned red.

“Ellen, although we had some misunderstandings before, you won’t be so unwelcoming to me, right? If you hate me so much, then I’ll leave!”

William frowned, immediately held Sydney’s wrist, looked at me dissatisfied and said, “Ellen, you are going too far. Sydney is your sister! Why are you so stingy?”

Trying to ignore the tingling pain in my stomach, I lowered my eyes and whispered, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to not welcome you. I’m just feeling a little uncomfortable.”

“You’ve always been as strong as an ox, so why are you so unwell? Ellen, you—”

Once Sydney was involved, William lost all reason.

The pity he had for me disappeared in an instant.

He continued to scold me, but Sydney finally interrupted with a sweet voice, “It’s okay, William. Ellen is not that kind of person. I know you feel sorry for me, but don’t blame her.”

William immediately shut his mouth.

But he still said coldly, “You remember to attend Sydney’s reception banquet tomorrow.”

After I got home, I took a handful of painkillers to stop the abdominal pain.

Then, I started to open my diary and record the grievances of the day.

After William sent Sydney home, the first thing he did was to say, “Don’t dress too showy tomorrow. After all, Sydney is the protagonist.”

I silently picked out a plain long dress and put it on. William nodded with satisfaction after seeing it.

The next day, I caught a glimpse of Sydney, who was as delicate and dazzling as a rose.

William’s eyes were already straight.

After coughing a few times, William came to his senses and awkwardly took me to a seat.

“I’m not telling you, Sydney. You abandoned William and went abroad because you thought he was poor. Why are you coming back now that he’s prosperous? I remember that your boyfriend abroad was bankrupt. Are you anxious to find a new home?”

Suddenly, a sharp and sarcastic voice sounded.

Sydney’s face turned pale instantly.

But I counted silently for three seconds.

Sure enough, William dropped a beer bottle to the man’s feet in the second.

“If you can’t speak, get out. Sydney is not that kind of person. She only went abroad because she was sick.”

I almost laughed at this lame excuse.

William believed in everything in order to forgive Sydney openly.

How could Sydney be sick?

In the past few years, even when she was abroad, she never forgot to call me one after another, cursing me as a bastard and a bitch.

“William, I’m fine. Don’t be angry.”

Only Sydney could calm the angry William.

Just like when William blew his classmate’s head off in order to support Sydney.

At that time, I cried and rushed up to him to stop, but he pushed me away viciously.

“Do you have the right to speak? Don’t think that just because you are Sydney’s sister, you can tell me what to do!”

Sydney patted William’s hand tenderly, then poured a full glass of wine and said to me, “Thank you all for taking care of William over the years. The one I want to thank most is Ellen, my sister. Come on, sister, let me toast you.”

Obviously, William was my husband, but she was thanking me for taking care of William for her.

The provocation was already so obvious, but William still looked at me steadily and said, “I’m toasting you a drink, just drink it.”

I felt sad and said lightly, “I don’t know how to drink.”

William’s face turned cold.

“Did you forget when you were hospitalized with stomach bleeding to stop me from drinking? Ellen, how many times have I told you not to target Sydney?”

I didn’t know from what standpoint William said this.

When I was hospitalized, he stood by my bedside with red eyes and said, “Ellen, I will never let you touch a drop of wine again. We will never suffer this injustice again!”

With a bitter smile, I picked up the glass and drank it all.

Almost as soon as the strong drink entered my throat, I felt a burning pain in my stomach.

Then a strong feeling of vomiting came over me. I couldn’t hold it back and vomited all over myself with a pale face.

William, who was sitting next to him, subconsciously held Sydney’s hand and took a few steps back. His face was livid and he said, “Ellen! What are you doing? Isn’t it disgusting?! Isn’t it just to let you drink a glass of wine? How about embarrassing yourself like this!”

William had mysophobia, so he said in public that I was disgusting.

My friends looked at me with strange and disgusting eyes and eventually they all found excuses to leave.

“Ellen, you have to ruin Sydney’s reception banquet, right? You always pretend to be sensible, I really misjudged you!”

After saying that, he kicked the empty wine bottle hard and pulled Sydney away.

Sydney turned around and gave me a gloating and provocative smile.

It was like saying, “Ellen, I’m back again and I’m here to take away everything that belongs to you.”

Sydney was my half-sister.

I would always remember that as soon as school was over that afternoon, I saw my mother kneeling on the ground begging my father not to leave.

But my father hugged Sydney’s mother and kicked my mother’s hand away, while Sydney giggled behind her.

From then on, Sydney started to snatch my things.

Clothes, toys, fatherly love.

Now, she was finally going to snatch William away.

When I got home, I discovered that all the painkillers had been taken.

I opened the diary and recorded it one stroke at a time.

[Sydney is back. With just a flick of her hand, she could take away the marriage that I had worked hard to maintain for five years.]

Curling up on the sofa and falling asleep, William finally came back.

He seemed to feel that he was a little too much toward me during the day and now he was rarely gentle.

“Ellen, haven’t you always wanted to go to Ahans with me for our honeymoon? We’ll leave the day after tomorrow, okay?”

At that time, William was so poor that he didn’t even have money for a wedding.

Not to mention the honeymoon.

After he became successful, I proposed more than once that I wanted to take a honeymoon, but he always declined on the excuse of being busy at work.

Now he finally agreed.

It would be great if I wasn’t about to die and if Sydney didn’t come back.

I couldn’t help but shed two lines of clear tears. William immediately held me in his arms and coaxed me softly, “Ellen, believe me, I am just a friend to Sydney. After all, it was I who misunderstood her and broke up with her. Now that she’s back, I just want to make it up to her, but from the beginning to the end, I only love you.”

I couldn’t believe William.

Because on the day Sydney returned to Mison, they couldn’t wait to leave the bed photos.

But even though my heart was cut by a knife, I still tried to look happy.

“Okay, I’ll book the flight right now.”

William rubbed my hair happily. I knew that he must be sighing at my sensibility again.

I recorded my joy at this moment in my diary and bought some equipment for Ahans.

On the same day, William drove me to the airport.

But suddenly, Sydney’s phone rang.

“William, I miss you so much…”

Her voice was drunken and there were many noises coming from all around.

William’s face suddenly tightened. “Where are you?”

“I was in the bar where we first met… William, do you remember? I was molested by some gangsters at that time and you saved me. You promised that you would protect me for the rest of your life…”
