Chapter 1
I had a young and beautiful mother.
She took my wealthy boyfriend away from me, saying he wasn't good enough for me and that I deserved a better man.
Later, she squandered her husband's assets on lavish purchases of gold and jewelry, claiming it was what I wanted.
She traveled all over the country with a pretty boy, saying I begged her to take me out to see the world.
It wasn't until she took my barely-month-old brother out to cheat. She accidentally left him in the car and suffocated him to death. She said that I coveted the family estate and couldn't stand her son.
When her husband found out, he beat me half to death.
In the end, she sold me to a crippled man. I died in childbirth after multiple pregnancies.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day my mother took my brother out to cheat.
1
My mother, Emma Davis, was a stunning beauty who easily snatched my boyfriend from me.
But she couldn't stand being lonely and still sought out pretty boys after marriage to satisfy her needs.
Every time she went out with her lover, she claimed I begged her to take me out to see the world. She said if I didn't go, I'd cry. I'd make a scene, and threaten to hang myself.
If Emma hadn't maxed out the supplementary card her husband, Levi Jones, gave her in the past life and he came knocking demanding I return everything, I wouldn't have known I had such a greedy image in front of my ex-boyfriend.
When the phone rang, I noted the time.
Today, my brother would be suffocated in the car. It was also the day Levi would find his card maxed out and be unable to find Emma, so he'd come to take it out on me.
I let out a cold laugh and picked up the phone.
"Charlotte, have you lost your mind? I'm your stepfather, but we don't seem to have any blood relation. Maxing out my card for millions, you're something.
"I remember warning you last time. I married your mom, not you. Can you have some shame? We're already broken up!
"Hurry up and return everything you bought with my money. Don't force me to call the police and search your house.
"And where is Emma?
"Where did you take Leo again? Can you stop dragging my son into your messy relationships?"
Emma took advantage of Levi being out of the house several times and brought those pretty boys back to enjoy herself.
Then, when the servants reported it to Levi, she would shift the blame onto me. She said it was my boyfriend, and I was the one who brought him home for fun.
"Charlotte!"
Seeing that I didn't respond, Levi roared on the other end.
If words were a sharp knife, I had no doubt that his voice could cut me into pieces right now.
"Are you even listening to me? I'm warning you, don't think taking my son means you don't have to pay me back. I won't let you spend a single dime of mine!"
Emma was following the same path as the last life, trying to pin Leo's death on me again. That's why Levi kept insisting I took him away.
By now, Leo must have already died.
"Charlotte, did you hear me?"
A trace of sarcasm flashed in my eyes. "What's the use of calling me to find your son? Call someone in Martinez Mansion now. Maybe you can still catch a last glimpse of him!"
I hung up the phone and leaned back in my chair.
Chapter 2
Levi was a fool with money but no brains. He wasn't worth my time.
The next second, I heard my colleagues' panicked voices outside the office. Before I could react, Levi burst in with several men in black.
My vision suddenly went dark as someone yanked my ponytail. A sharp pain shot through my scalp, and my eyes filled with tears.
"Charlotte, did you really think I wouldn't find you?" Levi said, gripping my hair tightly.
I didn't expect him to make such a scene at my workplace. Thankfully, I had a private office, so my humiliation was somewhat contained.
"Where's Leo?"
Levi waved his hand, and the men started searching the small office. But how could a toddler possibly be hiding here? I crossed my arms, watching them with disdain.
"Emma said you took Leo out for the day and never returned. Now she's missing, too. Are you two playing me?" Levi said. His voice was laced with anger.
I shoved his hand away. The hatred flashed in my eyes.
"Just because she said it doesn't make it true. Do you even think for yourself? I have a job. I don't have time to babysit for a couple of lunatics," I said.
Levi's gaze was stubborn as he tightened his grip on my hair.
"You didn't even go to work yesterday! The servants said they hadn't seen Leo since you left. Emma was left alone, too. What else do you have to say?" Levi said.
Lowering his voice, he added, "I might let the money go, but if anything happens to my son, I will take your life."
2
"I knew you were after my fortune, but I never thought you'd be this cruel. Hiding your own brother to threaten me?" Levi said through gritted teeth.
Levi growled. "You've already spent millions. Wasn't that enough? Have I ever mistreated you?"
Thanks to Emma's manipulation, Levi had always believed I was after his fortune.
During our relationship, Emma often invited us over for dinner. She was always praising Levi.
Later, she played both sides, pretending to support me while feeding Levi lies.
She told me Levi wasn't sincere about me while feeding him stories about me being a gold digger. It deepened his misunderstandings.
At first, I had no idea Levi was wealthy. It was Emma who recognized his expensive watch.
During a quarrel between Levi and me, my mom went behind my back and married him.
Since then, we've lived under the same roof but barely spoke.
But every penny Emma spent was blamed on me. Every man she flirted with became proof of my infidelity, making Levi hate me even more.
So even though there were many inconsistencies today, Levi believed Emma's words without question. He was not even bothering to investigate.
"So, if I hide your son, you suddenly can't have more kids?" I said coldly.
My tone was icy as I added, "Besides, can't you check if I spent your money? Who even wants your filthy money?"
Seeing that I wasn't backing down, Levi slammed my head against the desk. I was blurred.
His chest heaved with anger, as if he might explode at any moment.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Charlotte, I picked these flowers for you today. They're fresh and beautiful..." Isaac said, pushing the door open.
Isaac's words trailed off as he took in the scene.
Levi turned and smirked. "So this is your suitor, huh?" he said, crossing his arms.
Chapter 3
"Who are you?
"You're hurting her. Let her go," Isaac said. He gripped the flower stem tightly and looked at me nervously.
Levi smiled smugly, not loosening his grip at all. "I heard you found yourself a wealthy fiancé. Is it this guy?"
I didn't say anything and let Isaac misunderstand.
I had found a man for myself, but it wasn't him. The man before me had been pursuing me for a long time. It was almost to the point of obsession.
Seeing that he didn't turn around and run, it would be a lie to say I wasn't moved.
"I advise you not to waste your time on her. She isn't worth it.
"Do you know why I'm here today? She spends my money. After I married her mom, she spent millions of my money on other men, bringing male models home whenever she wanted.
"If you marry her, she'll cheat on you for sure. You won't even know if the kids are yours.
"I don't mind telling you, I was her ex-boyfriend. Do you know why I broke up with her and married her mom instead? Because I found her disgusting! Dirty! Vain and money-hungry!
"She's a vampire! She'll make you sell everything to support her. If you don't give her money, she'll threaten to jump off a building," Levi said.
Levi became more agitated. "My precious son is now in her hands. I don't know if he's dead or alive," he said.
Isaac's expression visibly changed, but I didn't notice. I turned to him and said, "Isaac, this has nothing to do with you. Leave now!"
After speaking, I mouthed for him to call the police.
He ignored Levi. He placed the flowers on the ground and hurried away.
Levi thought that Isaac had abandoned me. He turned around, and said arrogantly, "Even your fiancé has left you. Who's going to protect you now?
"Tell me where Leo is. Maybe I'll let you live," Levi said.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Use your brain, will you? Wasn't I alone when I left yesterday? Why don't you dare to go check Martinez Mansion?"
Levi slapped me across the face.
"Still being stubborn? The nanny saw a baby stroller under your company apartment!" Levi said.
Levi sneered. "If you don't say anything, you're not leaving here for the rest of your life. You'll leave when my son shows up," he said coldly.
I stared at him in shock. "Are you crazy? This is my company.
"You're holding me captive? On what grounds? Watch out, I'll call the cops and have you thrown in jail," I said.
Levi looked disdainful. "I haven't thrown you in jail yet. You've taken millions from me, and it wouldn't take much for me to get you arrested. Besides, I could buy this company easily," he said, waving his hand dismissively.
He waved his hand, and the men in black started smashing my live streaming room to pieces.
"Are you crazy?"
I asked. My voice was filled with disbelief.
Levi crossed his arms and looked indifferent. "You need a lesson to understand who's in charge," he said.
I swallowed my anger as my phone screen lit up with a text from Emma.
She asked where I was.
I quickly deleted the text and flipped my phone over.
"What are you doing now? Is your gang contacting you?" Levi said, reaching for my phone.
I dodged his hand. The last time I saw this message in my previous life, Leo had already died in the car. Soon after, Emma would call Levi.
For some reason, I felt a spark of anticipation in my heart.
At that moment, the glass door was knocked on. "Charlotte, it's time to start streaming," someone said.
I was a streamer. It was time to start work.
Levi's gaze sharpened. He immediately grabbed my arm. "You aren't satisfied with making money at home and now want to take the public's money too! Disgusting!" he said.
After saying that, he dragged me outside. "Since you refuse to listen, I'll see if you're embarrassed."
"I'm not embarrassed. I want to see if you're embarrassed," I said.
He dragged me to the hallway. Many colleagues were streaming and came out, with quite a few holding their phones.
"Come on, everyone. Look over here," Levi said, waving his hand.
The man in black behind Levi took out a banner. It had the words "Missing Person" written on it.
He leaned into my ear and said, "Aren't you afraid of ruining your reputation? Then let's see what violent enforcement feels like!"
As more colleagues gathered to watch, Levi changed his expression. He instantly became a pitiful father who had lost his child and pointed at me, shouting, "After her mom married me, she shamelessly moved into my house, hoping to rekindle our relationship.
"But her private life is a mess. She's promiscuous, bringing men into the villa to fool around at any chance!
"She maxed out my secondary card on those men and spent millions in just a few days. When her mom and I refused to give her more money, she threatened suicide!" Levi said. His voice was filled with outrage.
The number of viewers in several streamers' rooms shot up instantly.
It wasn't just colleagues whispering. The livestreams were flooded with insults, accusing me of being manipulative.
"And this woman even kidnapped her brother for the family inheritance! My precious son is still out there, and we don't know if he's alive or dead. He's just a month old!
"Can you understand my feelings as a father?"
My colleagues were swayed by his performance. They began to believe him and whispered to each other. Their voices grew louder.
"I've seen girls like her before. They think they can spend freely just because their mom married rich. She probably even has her sights set on her stepfather," someone said.
"That poor guy stuck with a stepdaughter like this. He'll have more to sacrifice for her," another person said.
As the discussion grew more intense, Levi looked at me with satisfaction.
"Charlotte, you still have time to beg for mercy. Don't make this scene any uglier," Levi said, gloating.
I chuckled lightly. "Levi, are you being childish? Do you think this will confuse right and wrong? Want me to go live and help you out?" I said.
"You're the one twisting the truth, Charlotte! I have to show your fans who you are," Levi said. His voice was full of conviction.
To be honest, I was also a streamer with millions of followers.
When he said that, I felt even more excited. The bigger this incident got, the better. Everyone should know what Emma did and see the ugly faces of this couple.
"Fine. I'm just worried you can't handle the online backlash," I said.
Levi gritted his teeth. "Then let's see!"
