Chapter 4

When my son and daughter were pushed into the cremation room, tears streamed down my face, but I kept biting my lips tightly without making any sound.

Madison looked at me with worry on her face.

"Serena, if you feel uncomfortable, cry out. It's okay."

I shook my head without making a sound.

Leander stomped the cane in his hand, making a loud bang sound.

"What about that troublemaker! Where would he, a father, go on such a day today?"

There was a flash of anger in Madison's eyes, then she glanced at me guiltily and finally spoke in a low voice.

"I called Caesario, but his phone is turned off."

When the staff came out carrying two urns of ashes, the old man tried to take them with trembling hands.

I took the lead in holding the urns in my arms, my eyes empty as I spoke.

"Leave it to me, they are my children."

Leander wanted to say something, but I fell to my knees in front of him.

"Grandpa, your kindness to me is greater than a mount, but they are my own son and daughter, I beg you ...."

When I said this, my throat felt a little tight, but I still held back my sobs and spoke softly.

"They are my own. In this life, they will not be buried in the Roberts' tomb, nor will they be members of the Roberts."

Leander frowned lightly and Madison held him, looking at me with a look full of heartache.

"Okay, Serena, you are the mother of the children, it's up to you to decide."

I looked at Caesario’s sister with gratitude, walked out of the funeral home holding the two urns and went straight home.

I also wanted to take the children's things away. I did not want any trace of them to remain in that cold house.

Just as I pushed open the door, a rustling sound came into my ears.

"Oh, don't do this. I just got pregnant and he doctor told me to be careful."

The man's voice was filled with a hoarseness of lust.

"Okay, okay, I'll be careful. Don't worry, I won't hurt our precious child."

After a moment, the enchanting sounds of men and women filled the entire living room.

They were making love in the master bedroom. I could not go in to pack up my things right now, so I could only stand there in a daze, listening to the sound of their lovemaking.

I did not know how long it took, but the two finally came out of the master bedroom.

His childhood sweetheart, Emma Nolte had a smug look on her face, but her words were affected.

"Oh, Serena, when did you come back? It's all Caesario's fault. He said the kids were all in kindergarten and insisted on bringing me back. I'm sorry, Serena."

Caesario walked out from behind her and put his arm around her waist.

"What's the point of telling her this? What right does she have to ask about what's going on between us?"

"Alright, let's go. Aren't you hungry?"

From beginning to end, Caesario's gaze never fell on me for a moment.

I moved aside to make way for them.

Just as he passed by me, he finally saw the two urns of ashes in my arms.

"What's that thing, gray and fluffy? You're still holding it in your arms. You don't even think it's disgusting."

After saying this, he hugged Emma and left home.

I lowered my head and looked into my arms, gently wiping the surface of the box.

"It's okay, Dad isn't talking about you, don't take it to your heart."

After carefully placing the urn on the coffee table, I began to pack up the children's things one by one.

Clothing, toys, drawing boards.

There was a painting on the canvas that my son had not had time to finish.

I trembled as I took the canvas off the standing canvas. There were four big, crooked words written on the canvas.

[A family of four.]

Below the canvas was written, [Dad loves Mom] and there was a small heart drawn behind it.

I finally could not hold back and burst into tears while holding the canvas.

In the five years of raising my son and daughter alone, regardless of the relationship between me and Caesario, I had never said a bad word about Caesario in front of them.

However, the two of them could see it themselves, they could see that their father did not love their mother.

Until nightfall, the children's belongings had been packed into several boxes.

I made an appointment in advance with an inter-provincial moving company and watched the staff load several boxes into the car one by one.

"Ms. Heuken, everything is packed, let's go."

I nodded and turned back to the living room, placing the divorce agreement with my signature on it on the coffee table.

When I left home, I hugged the urns tightly in my arms and suddenly I felt a sense of relief in my heart.

As soon as I got in the car, my message notification sounded. It was from Emma.

[Serena, I'm so sorry. Caesario can't go home these days. He insisted on taking me to Hawai for vacation. I'm sorry.]

Along with the text, there was also an image sent.

Seeing this kind of message again now, I felt nothing in my heart and even wanted to laugh.

I pulled out the phone card and broke it in half, then threw it out of the window the moment the car started.

I tightly held the urn in my arms and watched from the rearview mirror as the villa where I had lived for seven years got farther and farther away.

At the same time, at the domestic airport, Leander and Madison stopped Caesario and Emma who were about to go through security check.

Caesario's face immediately darkened.

"Has Serena gone crazy? She pretended to be magnanimous at home, but behind my back, she asked you to come to the airport to chase me. It's really disgusting ...."

Before Caesario could finish his words, the old man slapped him hard in the face.

"You bastard! You killed your own children and you still have the nerve to go traveling with your mistress! How did my family end up with such a heartless and vicious thing like you!"

Caesario stumbled and seemed unable to stand.

"Grandpa, you ... what did you say?"
