Chapter 3

A hospital examination revealed all the abnormalities. So I quit my job to focus on caring for Elio.

Then, I truly kept Theo's promise, taking care of his daily needs and our child's and being a wonderful wife and mother.

By day, I was Theo's most capable secretary; by night, I was his wife and the mother of our child.

Even when I was so busy and I didn't have time to rest, I felt fulfilled. I fed Elio his first meal and taught him to walk with a pen.

When he first spoke, he called me "Mom."

But now he said I'm not his mother anymore. The little boy who used to act cute in my arms, calling me "Mom," now had big, round eyes filled with hatred for me.

"She's never been nice to me. She always beats me secretly when you're not around. She also keeps giving me strange candies! Mom says they're medicine that makes you sick! Dad, she's a bad woman!"

Hearing these accusations, I even doubted I'd actually done any of this.

Theo's slightly questioning gaze broke my heart.

"Theo, do you also think I did all this to him?"

I could hear my own voice trembling, the pain in my palms far less noticeable than the pain in my heart.

Theo's eyes flickered, neither denying nor admitting.

"Serena, calm down for a moment."

"I'll work this out. Not all problems can be resolved through divorce." I laughed out loud, tears welling in the corners of my eyes.

"Okay, how do you say that? I want this cat out of this house right now. And she too, she must never appear in my life again!"

Her firm and persistent attitude left everyone in the audience rooted to the spot.

Theo's brow furrowed even more.

I knew he couldn't solve this problem.

He'd said this countless times, saying he'd solve the Alexa problem that was cropping up in our house.

It would solve Elio's skipping class to play with Alexa and it would solve Elio's constant crying and fussing while eating snacks, watching TV and playing on his phone.

But I never got any results.

Theo always said he was busy, Alexa was still young and he just wanted to be nice to her, nothing more.

He also said Elio's playfulness and fussy eating weren't a big deal.

I was tired of hearing all this.

When Elio heard me shoo the cat and Alexa away, he cried even more uncontrollably.

He picked up a stool and threw it at me. Theo reached out to block it, but he couldn't stop it.

The stool leg hit my shoulder, leaving a bloody scratch on my cheek.

Theo took a deep breath.

"Serena, why are you always bothered about the cat? It's just a cat. If he likes it, he'll take care of it. If he gets bored, he'll just let it go.”

In Theo's eyes, I'd always been gentle and generous. He always said I was considerate and loving towards him.

But he didn't know how much I would endure this. That's why, at that moment, he thought I was making a big deal about the cat.

"Theo, have I ever told you I'm allergic to a cat hair?"

At that, Theo's frown finally eased. He came over to me, hugged me gently and patted my head as usual.

"Sorry, sorry, I forgot. I didn't tell Elio. I'll get rid of this cat. Please don't be mad, okay?"

I didn't return his hug like I used to. The disappointment and sadness in my heart had taken over me.

Chapter 4

Thick layers of ice don't form overnight.

Theo's excuse was that he was always busy and forgot.

He forgot to change the passwords at home, forgot to change all the passwords related to Alexa's birthday. But he never asked about my birthday.

In those details he forgot to change, I feel jealous of his love for Alexa in his youth.

Comparing myself, I felt unloved by him.

Just like his fifth birthday a few days ago, he kept mentioning it, but he completely forgot about it on the day. He even came over to Alexa's house in the middle of the night to fix her doorbell.

"Alexa, don't come to my house anymore. Take your cat away too."

Theo turned around and tell her to leave.

While Elio's cries, Alexa broke down in sobs.

"Theo, would you like to ask me why I left so cruelly that time? Have you ever considered that I have my own difficulty?"

Theo's expression remained grim, but seeing his fists clenched at his sides, I knew he had softened.

"You evil woman! You old witch! Get out of my house! I hate you! You're the one who separated my parents! Get out!"

The cat kept jumping around my feet, making my nose itch. The noise in my ears made my scalp tingle.

My pent-up patience vanished instantly. I kicked the cat and it screamed and ran away, biting Elio's arm.

"Ah!"

Seeing the bleeding wound on his arm, I instinctively reached out to check. But a powerful force from behind pushed me back.

I thought it was Alexa.

But when I looked up, it was Theo.

"Serena, look how you messed up!"

"I never thought you'd be such a selfish woman! If anything happens to Elio today, I'll never forgive you!"

Theo must have been holding back those words for a long time.

He also believed Elio's story that I abused him, so when Elio got hurt, the first thing he did was scold.

Five years of hard work had been in vain.

Seeing Theo getting ready to leave, I quickly stepped forward and handed him the divorce agreement and a pen.

"Sign it before you go." Theo's eyes were filled with rage and he bit his cheek fiercely as he took the pen.

"Serena, don't regret it!"

Theo left, with the child in his arms. Alexa hurried after, glancing at me and smile proudly.

The three of them looked so harmonious together. While me, only stood at the door for a long time, unable to recover.

I lowered my head and took the ultrasound results out of my bag, tears of grief immediately filling my eyes.

My son, you came at the wrong time. Mom couldn't give you a complete family. I hope you can choose better parent next time.

"Julian, please schedule an abortion for me."

I had the abortion without telling Theo.

During my hospital stay, Theo and I didn't communicate at all.

Alexa's post on social media were filled with everyday moments with Theo and Elio. Without me, they became a true family.

[A man who can't cook is not a good husband.]

The photo showed his silhouette from behind and I recognized him immediately.

In our five years of marriage, Theo had never even been in the kitchen, or cooked. But now, he suddenly had time to cook for his wife and children.

It turned out he'd been so busy for five years that he hadn't had any time at all and all he had was me.

The irony of this scene stunned me.

Chapter 5

As I watched the picture, I suddenly burst out laughing. Then, I made an online appointment to register the divorce at the City Hall.

Then, Theo called.

After a moment's hesitation, I finally answered.

"Serena, I've sent the cat away. Come back now."

I took a breath, a dull ache throbbing in my lower abdomen.

"Theo, I don’t want to argue now, but we really can't go on like this."

With that, I hung up.

The next day, I took a taxi to the company and handed my resignation letter to the HR manager.

But he looked at me awkwardly. "Serena, I really don't agree. You should ask President Theo about this."

I hated causing trouble.

I walked to Theo's office with my resignation letter. Even before I entered, I heard laughter from inside.

"Theo! Why are you like this?"

Through the frosted glass, I saw the happy family of three. After taking a deep breath, I pushed open the office door.

"Sir, please sign this."

Theo's previously gentle expression turned grim as he stared intently at the resignation letter.

"Are you leaving your marriage and your job? I thought you were mature, but it seems you lack the common sense to assess the situation."

Theo's words were cold. He seemed to treat marriage and career as mere negotiations and collaborations. And my request for a divorce and resignation felt like sacrificing a promising future to him.

"Sign it."

My lower abdomen ached and I forced myself to say two words, fighting the discomfort.

Alexa felt uneasy when she saw Theo's reluctance to sign.

"Serena, I don't mean to take Theo or Elio, but you're too narrow-minded as a woman. I'm looking at my own child. Is that illegal?"

Elio pouted and hugged Alexa tightly, staring at me defensively.

"Dad, don't have her anymore. Only Dad and Mommy Alexa are my family! She's not!"

Elio casually picked up the pen holder on the table and threw it at me. I dodged it. But as I moved, a sharp, cramping pain ripped through my lower body.

My leg felt a little cold and I looked down and saw blood gushing out.

"Ah!"

A scream echoed in my ears and my vision went black as I collapsed to the ground.

The assistant outside rushed in and quickly called 122.

"122? This is the 25th floor of blue corporation Building. Someone just had an miscariage and is experiencing abnormal lower body bleeding..."

Standing in shock, Theo felt his legs go numb. He grabbed the secretary's assistant's arm and asked in disbelief, "What did you say? She had an miscariage? She's pregnant?"

He stumbled back a few steps, looking at me, unconscious on the ground, his heart choking.
