Chapter 1

My daughter had a high fever and convulsions and the traffic in Sansworth was paralyzed due to extreme weather.

I had no choice but to drive myself. When I arrived at the underground garage, I found that my husband, Samuel, had driven away the car with a spare key.

I almost collapsed. I called Samuel, but he hung up every time.

At three o’clock in the morning, when I took my daughter to the emergency room on a shared electric bike, my daughter was no longer breathing.

I still couldn’t get over the grief of losing my daughter. When I was holding a photo of my daughter and me, I received a checkup form that Samuel had sent to me by mistake.

It turned out that when my daughter and I needed him the most, he was actually accompanying his mistress for a prenatal checkup.

The photo was quickly withdrawn and I sent a message to Samuel with trembling hands.

[Cynthia: So, in your heart, my daughter and I are always inferior to outsiders?]

I sat on the ground in despair holding my daughter’s photo for an unknown period of time.

The next day at noon, Samuel replied to me. [Samuel: You are not missing arms or legs, Sacha is the one who can’t leave me!]

It was seven days later when Samuel returned. Sacha was hungry and went to cook a bowl of noodles.

Samuel helped Sacha walk into the house carefully and ordered me to serve them in a bossy manner.

I looked at him calmly, then retracted my gaze. “Samuel, let’s get a divorce.”

He frowned and looked up at me unhappily as if he didn’t understand why I would file for divorce.

We had been married for five years and I had always been obedient to him. I dare not go complain and I tried my best to play the role of a good wife.

He took my efforts for granted. He was too immersed in Sacha’s gentle behavior, even if he received a phone call telling that his daughter died, I was sure he wouldn’t care..

Thinking of my daughter, tears flowed down uncontrollably and I turned my face away and didn’t look at him.

He was stunned for a long time and said to me impatiently, “Okay, stop saying this kind of words all day long. If you really get divorced one day, you will have no place to cry. Hurry up and cook a bowl of noodles for Sacha. She is pregnant now and can’t be hungry.”

My daughter was indirectly killed by him, but he thought I was angry with him.

Sacha leaned on Samuel’s shoulder pitifully. “Samuel, did I make Cynthia unhappy? Otherwise, I’d better leave, so that you two won’t quarrel because of me.”

I didn’t want to see them being lovey-dovey to each other and polluted my eyes, so I turned and went to the bedroom.

Samuel didn’t know what was wrong with me. He suddenly walked toward me quickly and held my wrist. “Cynthia, I was busy outside all day, I didn’t come back to see you give me a cold face!”

I pulled my hand back and my emotions completely exploded at this moment. “Samuel, are you hypocritical? You said you were busy outside, but why are you accompanying Sacha? That day my daughter had a high fever convulsion, you were busy accompanying Sacha for a prenatal checkup. You killed my daughter, don’t you know?!”

Samuel’s face darkened because of my words. He stared at me.

Sacha came toward us with her big belly and scolded me condescendingly, “Cynthia, I know you are angry about Samuel accompanying me for the prenatal checkup, but you can’t joke about your daughter’s life!”

Joking? Why did she think I was joking? How could she said that I joked about my daughter’s life?

Hearing this, Samuel stared at me disappointedly. “Cynthia, stop it, your daughter is not a tool for you to be jealous!”

Chapter 2

“Who do you think you are? And you, you are just a shameful mistress. What qualifications do you have to mention Bridget in front of me?”

Samuel was stunned. This was the first time I scolded him.

Sacha beside me looked at me pitifully and went into Samuel’s arms and cried. Seeing her crying, Samuel comforted the person in his arms and turned his face to me. “Apologize!”

“You actually asked me to apologize to your mistress? Did you get kicked in the head by a donkey?” I turned around, walked into the bedroom and closed the door.

Samuel outside the house turned the door handle in a rage, banging on the door and yelling at me to get out. Sacha’s understanding voice came to persuade him.

I lay on the bed tiredly, staring at the ceiling in a trance. In the past, my daughter would sleep next to me at this time, with her little arms around my neck. But I would never see her again.

I closed my eyes and my mind was filled with my daughter’s smile before she died.

My Bridget was so young and her life was taken away. Tears fell silently and I fell asleep in pain.

After waking up the next day, I walked out of the bedroom tiredly and the two annoying people were gone.

I took a taxi to the emergency department of the hospital to get my daughter’s death certificate, but I didn’t expect to meet them there.

I pretended not to know them and was about to leave. Sacha stopped me from a distance. “Cynthia, why are you here too?”

She walked toward me with Samuel’s arm around her and I stopped. “What’s wrong?”

“Oh, Cynthia, I didn’t expect to meet you here. Are you sick? It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t pestered Samuel to come with me to get the test results, you wouldn’t be here alone. I apologize to you for what happened last night. After all, Samuel cares about me too much. You two should stop quarreling because of me. Make peace quickly.”

She stuck out her tongue playfully and Samuel looked at her dotingly. The two of them really looked like a pair of gods and goddesses.

I treated them coldly and didn’t want to communicate with them too much. I left if there was nothing else.

Samuel stopped me unyieldingly and reached out to grab the death certificate in my hand. “Why did you appear in the hospital? What is it in your hand? Let me see.”

I hid my daughter’s death certificate behind me and took two steps back to keep a distance from him. “It has nothing to do with you. I will ask a lawyer to draft a divorce agreement and send it to you. If there is nothing else, I will leave first to avoid your girlfriend from misunderstanding and getting jealous.”

My sarcastic words made Samuel frown and stare at me with a slight reproach. Maybe he thought I was still angry about the previous incident, so he softened his tone to coax me.

“I was wrong about what happened that day. Don’t hold on to it. There is nothing between Sacha and me. I just think it is too difficult for her to be alone. In addition, I had a good relationship with her before, so don’t think too much.”

In the past, I would be very happy to follow the steps he gave me. But now, I just hoped to quickly get rid of my relationship with him.

I glanced at Sacha who was proud and raised my voice to attract the attention of others. “So what you mean is that you think Sacha is pitiful for being pregnant and abandoned, right?”

The passers-by who were still in a hurry slowed down their pace after hearing what I said and looked at us sideways. Sacha’s face turned darker and she stared at me with resentment.

Samuel covered my mouth and looked at me disapprovingly. “What are you doing? Sacha is a girl after all. How hurtful is it for you to say that? Apologize to her for what happened yesterday, just for my sake, okay?”

I nodded perfunctorily. “Got it, remember to sign the divorce agreement. From now on, your affairs have nothing to do with me.”

I walked past him and tried to leave, but he grabbed me again. I was irritated and wanted to break free, but his strength increased instead. Sacha stood beside him pitifully, like a frightened little white rabbit.

While entangled with him, the death certificate in my hand accidentally fell to the ground. I squatted down to pick it up, but Samuel got there first.

After seeing the content on it clearly, his pupils widened in shock and he looked at me in disbelief. His voice was trembling. “Is this true?”
