Chapter 4

Seeing my reaction, Mila suddenly became excited.

"Weren't you quite arrogant just now? Why are you so nervous now?"

One host also focused the camera on the box.

"Hey, guys, it seems like there's something valuable in this box."

The audience in the livestream also speculated that there must be some rare treasure inside the box.

I quickly denied.

"It's not valuable, but it's very important to me. Please don't touch it."

As I said this, I tried to snatch the box away.

Unexpectedly, Mila opened the box directly.

Inside the box was a glass bracelet.

When Mila saw the bracelet, her eyes almost rolled back.

"I thought it was something valuable, turns out it's just a worthless bracelet, and it's made of glass. It's the kind that no one would even bother picking up from the trash."

As she spoke, Mila took out the bracelet and threw it forcefully onto the ground.

I quickly rushed forward, attempting to catch the bracelet.

This bracelet was a birthday gift I bought for my mother when I was in elementary school, using up all my pocket money.

But after giving it to my mother, I realized that I had been deceived and had spent the money for a jade bracelet to buy a glass bracelet.

However, my mother cherished it and wore it on her wrist everyday.

She said it was the best birthday gift she had ever received.

Later, when my mother got into a car accident, she held onto the bracelet tightly, and it remained intact.

Whenever I missed my mother, I would take it out and hold it, as if I were embracing her.

This thing was not valuable, but it was the most precious thing in my home and my only connection to her.

But, I was forced to watch it shatter before my eyes.

Looking at the broken bracelet, I closed my eyes in pain, tears streaming down my face.

Seeing me crying, those hosts seemed to have discovered some new world.

They pointed the camera at my face, laughing at me.

"My friends, this bitch is actually crying!

"See? This is the fate of being a mistress!

"The law can't punish shameless bitches like her, we, the online judges will!"

I picked up the fragments of the bracelet, tightly held them in my hand, and shouted angrily at the group of people, "I will make every single one of you pay!"

In response to my outburst, they laughed even louder.

"My friends, is this bitch crazy? She even wants to scare us.

"Who are we? We are the online judges representing justice. In places where the law can't reach, it's up to us!

"Come on, guys, give us likes and send gifts. Let's put a perfect end to today's action of punishing mistresses."

As soon as they finished speaking, various virtual gifts started flooding the livestream.

The comments were full of praise, saying that they were fighting for justice on behalf of the underprivileged and that society needed people like them.

When the hosts saw these words, their mouths stretched wide with satisfaction.

They checked and found that there was nothing else to smash in my house, so they were about to leave with Mila.

Just then, several policemen suddenly walked in.

They looked at the mess in the house and were shocked.

"Ms. Dawson, there's a hidden story of your mother's car accident. We couldn't reach you on the phone, so we came to seek your assistance in the investigation.

"What happened?"

When I saw them, I immediately rushed over, grabbed their arms, and shouted, "Officers, these people broke into my home without permission, smashed millions of dollars worth of collections, and even cyberbullied me in the livestream. You have to help me!"

The hosts who were just shouting and smashing things became instantly panicked.

However, Mila remained defiant.

"I was just helping my mom teach my dad's mistress a lesson. I didn't do anything wrong!"

Mila spoke with confidence, but her body couldn't stop trembling slightly.

I knew she was scared.

The police frowned as they looked at the mess in the house.

"Even if it was meant as a lesson for a mistress, you can't break into someone's home illegally. This is against the law!"

Just as the hosts were about to argue, I quickly pulled the police officer in charge of recording statements into the bedroom.

"Officer, not only were the collections in the living room destroyed, but also the millions worth of Haute Couture and luxury handbags in my bedroom. Don't forget to include that! These people are lawless and despicable. They must be dealt with according to the law!"

The police officer's expression turned serious as he saw the state of the bedroom, which was even worse than the living room.

At this time, Mila rushed up to the police officer, pointed at my nose and cursed.

"Officer, you can't just listen to her one-sided story. This woman is my dad's mistress. This house and everything inside it were bought with my dad's money. As his daughter, I have the right to handle everything in this house."

The other hosts joined in, agreeing her words.

"Yes, we can all testify. Mila's mother was driven to hospital by the mistress' actions. We are just helping her seek justice, which is why we smashed these things. Is it against the law for a biological daughter to handle her father's property?"

This group of people seemed to be unshakably convinced that I was Richard's mistress.

However, the police handle cases based on evidence, not rumors.

They took photos and registered.

"Whether or not you can smash things in this room, your words alone are not enough. You need to provide evidence to prove your claims. Otherwise, this will be considered trespassing and destruction of others' property, which carries a prison sentence."

As one police officer turned to me, he asked, "What is your relationship with Mila's father?"

I quickly explained. "Regardless of the relationship, it is definitely not the kind they claim. I have been falsely accused.

"Also, the things that were destroyed in my house are all very valuable. I will sort out the invoices and give them to you later. I want these people to compensate me according to the price!"

Just as I finished speaking, I noticed that the hosts who were just causing trouble were trying to sneak away.

However, even if they managed to escape, it wouldn't make a difference. The surveillance cameras in my house had recorded the entire process of them smashing my property.

Seeing that I still denied any involvement in Richard's affair, Mila started to be sarcastic again.

"Officer, don't let this little bitch deceive you with her innocent appearance. She destroyed someone else's family just to live a better life. Such a person can come up with any lie.

"Besides, I have evidence that she was kept by my father. Just a few days ago, my father spent tens of thousands on buying her a handbag and they were hugging and cuddling in the car. If this isn't a mistress, what is it?"

The police officer gave Mila a cold look.

"The truth cannot be determined simply by a few words. You need to provide evidence.

"Since you have conflicting stories, bring your evidence to the police station and let us investigate."

Seeing Mila and the other hosts being reluctantly taken away, I discreetly tugged on the last police officer's sleeve, asking him to stay behind.

"Officer Zabel, what do you mean by 'hidden story' in my mom's car accident? I didn't have a chance to ask earlier."

He sighed. "We initially believed your mom's car accident was just an accident. However, later on, we had technicians repair the data storage card from the vehicle's black box recorder and discovered there was a hidden story involved in the accident."

As he spoke, he took out a storage card from his pocket and handed it to me.

"Take a look for yourself. As for what you want to do with this information, it's up to you. I understand that it may be difficult to accept at first, but there needs to be a resolution. Take your time to process it, and I'll be waiting for you at the station."

Watching his departing figure, I felt a sense of surprise.

The car accident that took my mother's life had always felt suspicious to me.

But the expression on Officer Zabel's face made me realize that the accident might not have been as simple as I had thought.

Holding the storage card, I headed to the underground parking lot.

Luckily, my laptop was still in the car and hadn't been damaged.

But the moment I saw the contents of the card, I felt like I had fallen into an ice cellar.

I never expected that the main culprit responsible for my mother's death was Richard!
