Chapter 6

In the surveillance footage, Amy was lounging with her feet propped up on the coffee table, watching TV and eating snacks.

She wasn't shy about complaining to Vincent.

"Finally, she's gone. Otherwise, I'd be stuck catering to her every day!

"This isn't having a wife; it's like having a master!

"If it weren't for her family's money and the fact she's an only child—so all that money, the house, and the car would eventually be yours—I'd never have agreed to this marriage.

"She's spoiled rotten, not fit to compare with our rural girls."

It turned out they'd been scheming about my family's assets from the start.

My hand trembled slightly as I held my phone, a cold sweat creeping down my back.

I thought, What if I haven't discovered this? I would've been blissfully unaware, and once my parents were gone, would the Adams family have ended up swindling all our property?

At that moment, I truly understood how deceitful people could be.

But it wasn't until Amy's next comments that I really grasped the depths of human malice.

Chapter 7

"Son, I heard there's a pill that can make a woman more... accommodating. Look into it and see how much it costs. I'll cover the expenses," Amy said.

Vincent, who had been ignoring his mother's complaints, suddenly snapped his head around, his eyes wide with shock. "What?"

Amy gave him a playful smack. "You idiot, what do you think? I want you to get it for your wife, so she'll hurry up and give me that fat grandchild I've been waiting for!"

She was pulling out all the stops to get me to have a baby.

Normally tight-fisted, she was now offering to foot the bill just to get her hands on a grandchild.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Vincent frowned, clearly annoyed and full of disdain. "There are other women who can have kids, too, you know?

"Given her current shape, I'm not touching her. It's disgusting."

Amy's eyes lit up with excitement. "So, you're saying there are young women at work who are interested in you?"

Vincent raised an eyebrow, looking smug. "Oh, plenty."

Amy clapped her hands in delight. "I knew my son was capable and charming!

"Tell me more. How many like you? Are they pretty? What's their background?

"How about this: while Charlotte's away, bring them over so I can check them out. I'll help you pick one who can give me that grandson."

I was stunned.

They were practically choosing a concubine now.

Hearing it firsthand, I felt like my world was being turned upside down.

It was truly eye-opening to realize the extent of their twisted values. I had spent three years living with people whose moral compass was so shattered.

It was as if I had been blind and deaf to their true nature.

Fortunately, fate intervened and allowed me to see their true colors before it was too late. I would never let them benefit from this situation.

As for my counter-strike, it was better to consider becoming a widow than a divorce in terms of finality.
