Chapter 4

I could see the astonishment in his eyes. After that, his astonishment turned to delight.

He responded to her promptly.

After that, Camden sent me another message to tell me not to come over anymore. Lynn would be picking him up.

Lynn arrived very soon. She drove a red sports car and was still wearing her gown from her wedding toast.

Everyone got rowdy when she arrived.

"How can the bride see her ex-boyfriend on her wedding night? Are you still in love with Camden?"

"You drove here to pick Camden up. I'm so jealous. I don't have anyone to pick me up."

Lynn looked around and asked questioningly, "Why isn't Peyton here?"

Camden got mad at the mention of my name. He said, "Does she have the right to be here? Is she even worthy of meeting you?"

Lynn's eyes turned a little red from listening to him. She choked back a sob and said, "Don't be like this. I know you married each other, which means our relationship is the past. Her medical skills might not be great, but it was a misunderstanding that led to my 'death'. I didn't really die. Fortunately, my mom couldn't bear to see me cremated. Otherwise, I would have been really dead."

She said this with great sincerity.

Lynn even leaned against Camden while crying.

She continued, "I wanted to explain to Dr. Lang about what happened. I don't want her to think that my family played this trick on her on purpose and caused her life to be messed up this way. I really didn't…”

Not on purpose?

After Lynn's death was confirmed while lying on my surgery table, the Gardners had stopped me from getting anywhere near her.

Her corpse was taken away immediately.

I was led away to be investigated.

From my point of view, there was no way this was not done on purpose.

It was not my surgery to perform, but it was forced onto me for the only reason that the other doctors had high-level influences, while I had no influential person to back me up. The Gardners were able to do whatever they wanted. They used a doctor's future in exchange for their daughter's freedom. They could even avoid offending the Prices.

How great it was for them.

Camden was a smart person, yet he hugged Lynn after her explanation.

He accepted every word she said.

"I know. You would never leave me behind. I know that."

Lynn drove off with him after that.

I was forced to follow them.

She quickly arrived at a hotel owned by the Gardners.

Lynn walked Camden in, and they had another round of drinking. Camden was already drunk from before and fell right onto the bed. He cried while calling out a name.

She gently took off his suit. I thought something was about to happen between them.

I did not expect Lynn to leave right after helping him with his clothes.

The next day, Camden was still sleeping when Lynn went over. Lynn said to her husband in annoyance, "I faked my death because I wanted to avoid this man. I was afraid of offending the Prices. Who knew he would still remember all this time, and even marry that doctor?

"That doctor must know something about me faking my death. If she exposes me, it would be the end of me and my family. After all, we used every connection at a higher level to fake my death successfully…"

Her husband smiled while she was speaking. He said, "It's fine, Honey. I know that. I don't blame you for anything you do."

He left after that. Lynn slowly took off her clothes and changed into her nightgown. She flung a few used condoms into the garbage can and lay down next to Camden.

I was trembling with anger from her words. That was when I saw Camden's eyes open slightly. There was a shock in his eyes. He was not asleep.

Camden pushed Lynn, who was pretending to sleep, away from him.

"What are you doing, Camden? You don't need to blame yourself. I wanted to sleep with you last night."

Camden looked coldly at her. "You faked your death to run away from our marriage. Peyton didn't kill you on the surgery table. You and your family framed her."

"It's nothing like that, Camden. What are you talking about? Why would I frame Dr. Lang? Didn't I explain everything to you? Please believe me."

Camden seemed to break down as he said, "I wasn't asleep just now. I heard everything. How am I supposed to believe you?!"

He grabbed his clothes and put them on in a hurry.

Camden kept calling me while walking out the door, however, it was no surprise that no one picked up those calls.

When the last call was hung up, he received a call from the police station.

"Hello, are you Peyton Lang's husband, Camden Price?”

"Your wife was found dead at home. Please make a trip to the police station to identify her. We also need you to assist with our investigation."
