Chapter 1
Layla’s POV
My biggest fear in life is being deceived by the people I love, I can't tolerate being lied to, cheated on, or made a fool. And I think that's the case right now.
I have a huge feeling my husband Alpha Dante the Alpha of the Jade pack is cheating on me, I know it's hard to believe because of how much he loves me and how he never misses an opportunity to let me know.
That's why I hired a private investigator to monitor the whereabouts of my husband, I wanted to be sure I wasn't throwing accusations around because of my fear of being abandoned.
“Here is all I have found my lady,” Detective Mel handed me a brown envelope containing all the information she had gathered over the month.
I took the envelope from her and tore it open immediately, my heart beating in my chest as I anticipated what lay behind them. Took a look at the pictures, confusion etched on my face.
“Wait!” I paused and looked at Mel, “is this all?” I asked, one could tell I was disappointed, the pictures she took were pictures of Alpha Dante attending various meetings, ones he had told me prior.
“Your husband isn't cheating on you from what I gather, I haven't seen him with any other lady except his secretary whom you are familiar with” she reported.
I sat there looking confused, I knew I was supposed to be happy about this but I had a feeling that it wasn't true, maybe he was being careful or Mel wasn't doing her job well. But that would be odd because Mel has been my private investigator for years.
“Ok, keep looking,” I said to her. “For the main time you are dismissed” I command and she bowed before leaving.
“What are you doing Layla?” a pang of guilt hit me immediately after she left the room, I knew what I was doing was wrong but I couldn't help it.
Alpha Dante and I had been together for twelve years, I was a rogue wolf who ran away from home, he found me and took me in even when everyone objected. No one likes rogues, according to the elders of the pack, they are an abomination and a curse.
Alpha Dante didn't believe all of that, he clothed and sheltered me, he was patient with me even though I couldn't speak for six months due to shock, and even after I was able to I refused to tell him where I am from.
He had just lost his father when he found me and was under pressure to pick a Luna as the new Alpha of the pack, and that's when he made me a proposal, he asked me to get married to him as that's the only way I could belong to the pack.
Everyone was against it but he was the leader of the pack, and no one dared to question his authority, Alpha Dante loved me fiercely, but he didn't do a lot for me over the years including donating his bone marrow to save me seven years ago.
So why on earth would I think he is cheating on me?
“My lady!” a voice at the door brought me back to reality, I looked up to see Anabel my right-hand maid standing at the door.
“How may I help you?” I asked, clearly not in the mood for Luna's duties.
“Alpha Dante is back and he is looking for you” she replied almost immediately.
“Oh yes, I will be down in a minute,” I said as I stood up and quickly adjusted my dress in the mirror. A few minutes later I was heading downstairs.
“My beautiful queen, the most beautiful lady in the world” Alpha Dante praised as I walked down the stairs, I was pretty much used to his praise.
“Yes my king” I replied as I ran into his arm, “what took you so long?” I asked but was quickly distracted by the unfamiliar scent on him.
“Work, meeting with the elders, I am sorry my love I know I kept you waiting” he gave me a peck on the forehead. “That's why I brought you this,” he said as he handed a fancy box to me.
“More gifts? Oh Dante you don't have to” I said as I took the box from him, and examined it, it looked very familiar, like I had seen it before.
And then it hit me, I saw him holding this box in the picture Mel showed me, I could have said it was the same box as the one with me only that the picture was taken two weeks ago.
Chapter 2
Layla’s POV
“My queen, are you alright?” Alpha Dante asked pulling me out of my trance, I didn't know my shock was evident.
“Yeah…I am fine, sorry” I said as I unboxed the gift, inside was the most beautiful neckpiece I have ever seen, it had a pendent that carried the sign of a moon.
“This is just a little token babe, I have a bigger surprise for you but that's a secret for now” he revealed
“Thank you so much, Dante, you've spoiled me too much,” I said as I hugged but quickly pulled away due to the unfamiliar scent, it just reminded me that my beloved husband might be cheating on me and the other box I saw was for his mistress.
Suddenly his phone rang, and he made an excuse to go pick it up which was odd, he doesn't hide anything from me or so I thought. I took a deep breath and went to the dining room to inspect the food that was being served for dinner.
I do this all the time because Alpha Dante is allergic to a lot of things, so I need to make sure nothing is going to harm him, that's another duty of a Luna.
After that, I headed to the room to inform Alpha Dante that dinner was ready but when I got there I stood at the door eavesdropping on his conversation with God knows who.
“I told you not to call me by this time” he sounded offended but his tone was soft and polite. “I am home with my wife” that's right, let that bitch know.
“I have to go, I will see you tomorrow, our usual spot” he continued. “You know I can't say that back to you” I wonder what he can't say back to her?
How am I sure it's his mistress? I thought to myself but who am I kidding, Alpha Dante has been so secretive and distant lately, yes he still spoils me with gifts but I can tell when my husband's attention is divided.
I took a deep breath masking my true emotion as I knocked on the door, he opened almost immediately. “Since when do you start knocking?” he asked with a sheepish smile on his face.
That's true, since when did I start knocking? “Since when do you start making calls in secret?” I shot back at him playfully and his demur changed immediately.
“I wasn't my queen, it was work and I didn't want to bore you” he sounded defensive but guilty.
“Dinner is ready,” I said not wanting to drag the issue further, he followed me downstairs quietly. I think my words might have gotten to him.
We both sat down and he started eating, I sat there and watched him, I wasn't hungry I just wanted to be there in case he needed anything.
I couldn't believe this man sitting in front of me was cheating on me, I could still remember the promise he made to me on our wedding night after I opened up a bit about my past.
Alpha Dante had held my hands and promised me he would never hurt me, he said he wasn't like my father and wouldn't abandon me the way he did my mother. I didn't believe him but I had hoped he was different. I still hope he is different.
Soon after eating Alpha Dante proposed we watch a movie since it's been a long we did so, I was very much excited because that was one of our traditions but his phone rang and he left to answer it, he came back later apologizing saying he has to leave. Something urgent came up.
I nod as he kisses me on the cheek and heads out. I went back to my room, picked up my phone, and made a call.
“My husband is on the move, I want to know where he is going”
Call me a helicopter wife but I won't tolerate being played for a fool.
Chapter 3
Layla’s POV
I was restless after he left, I couldn't sleep because I badly wanted to know where he went to, I fell asleep after a short while only to wake up in the morning to see him lying in bed and staring at me.
“You look beautiful when you sleep” he complimented, as much as I wasn't having it I put up a smile, pretending like I wasn't about to explode last night.
“What time did you get in? I asked the obvious question.
“Late at night, I am so sorry for ruining our plans, I promise to make it up to you,” he said as he squeezed my hands gently. “For now get dressed, I have another surprise for you.
Alpha Dante always spoils me with gifts but I think it's becoming too much this day, last month he got me an island that was worth a fortune, and that's when I started suspecting he was cheating on me.
“You are far too kind my lord, just give me some time to change” I replied and he stood up and left.
I reached out for my phone immediately after he left and dialed Mel’s number, she picked up the first ring. “Any news?” I asked not wanting to beat around the bush.
“No my lady, he went to the office accompanied by his beta Jake, after that he rode straight home” she replied, I let out a heavy sigh of relief before saying.
“Ok keep doing your job, and remember this is between me and you” With that I cut the call and dialed another number.
Mel has been my trusted informant for years but she was first working for Alpha Dante which means she might be covering up for him, that's why I hired someone else to look into the case, I couldn't trust her not with this.
“What do you have for me?” I asked the moment the person picked up.
“He was seen at the Blue Wave Hotel alongside his beta” Okay that's close to what Mel said. “Hours later, he came out with some lady, tall, brunette, light-skinned, they held hands as he escorts her to her car”
“His beta was there?” I asked looking shocked, Jake and I aren't exactly friends but we get along quite well, he always reminded me how much Alpha Dante loves me whenever I was beginning to have doubt. Hearing he was present only fueled my anger.
“Yes ma, I did a further investigation on the lady“
“And?”
“She is Princess Kira from the Bloom Moon pack, daughter of Alpha Gideon, from my research, they've been together for quite some while. That's all for now ma”
Princess Kira! I chuckle bitterly, of all people?
“Keep me updated, no one should know about this” I informed before hanging up.
Kira was Alpha Dante’s bestrode before I came along, everyone was so sure they were going to get married as that was the perfect alignment for both packs. But Alpha Dante broke his promise to her father by choosing me.
It caused a commotion, one that included Alpha Dante almost stepping down as the alpha of the jade pack, why do all those things for me only to go back to her? Something isn't adding up but I won't wait to find out before taking action.
I won't make the same mistake my mother made by staying with a man who brought her nothing but pain and suffering all because of love.
It's time for plan B and with a hint of determination I sent a text, a text I should have sent long ago but I was still trying to convince myself that my husband wasn't cheating.
After that I got prepared and was ready for the surprise, I just hope he will be ready for mine soon enough.
